Transferring my library, please help

My computer recently crashed but I was able to salvage my harddrive and put my music collection onto a couple of dvds. I now have a new computer and have put all my music onto it and am attempting to import that music into iTunes. However, all music that was either bought on iTunes or ripped off cds using iTunes (in other words everything that was previously in my iTunes folder) I can't import into my new iTunes. When I try to "add folder to library" I get the pop up window that says it's importing and it goes through all my music but at the end of the importing process my music hasn't actually been imported...Anyone know what's up? Can anyone help?
Thanks a lot,
Tim

hi Tim!
hmmmm. head into your "advanced" preferences tab, and check to see what folder you have set as a location for imports. is it your itunes music folder?
love, b

Just bought a gen 7 ipod Nano. All setting in iTunes are set to transfer. When I hookup to my computer. It says syncing then devise is synced. But absolutely nothing transferred!! Please help!

Never mind, got it to work. I stumbled around on Google for a while and somehow ended up reading things from the 'jailbroken' community. They had easy instructions to get out of Recovery mode. Thanks anyway though!
P.S. For anyone who experiences this, here is the fix: Hold Power and Home in unison for 6 seconds, then power on as normal.

  • Can't fuse music from iPod to new PC iTunes Library - please help!!

I recently moved to a new country and transferred all my music on my iPod. Just bought a new PC and installed my iTunes, but can't figure out how to get my iPod music onto my Library. Please help, I'm getting frustrated!!!

Apparently, you open the music folder from your iPod drive (after it's been connected), then highlight all the files from the iPod folder and drag them to your My Music folder and import the folder to My Library. Don't forget to enable view of hidden files beforehand. Takes a little while, depending on how much music you have on your iPod.

  • How to delete photos in iphone which is transferred from mac, please help?

    Hi Everyone..
I got an new iphone5 ...Am not able to delete photos which are transferred from my Mac book pro to my iphone...
Please help and guide me how to delete photos in iphone which is transferred from mac book iphoto..
    Regards
    Shashidhar

You need to do it through iTunes, by unsyncing them
Wtih  your iPhone connected, open iTunes on your computer, and click on your iPhone's name.
This should bring up the Overview Page, then click on the Photos Tab.
From their uncheck the folders that have the images you want top remove from your phone. Then sync the phone. itunes will remove the pictures during the sync process.

  • Transferring Information Thriller, PLEASE HELP!!!

I'm transferring info from my G3 powerbook with OSX to my new drive on my powerbook G4 with OSX. I've gone through the welcome set up questions and selected to "transfer info from another computer". I'm doing it through the firewire "T" set-up. It states it will take 5 hours +. Twice now I wait all of the 5 hours until it says 2 or 3 minutes remaining and it just stays there. This time it has been showing 3 minutes for over over 6 hours (not including the 5 hours it took transfering up until then)! I've even tried shutting it down via the power button and it does nothing. I would say it is frozen, but the blue bar is still animated. PLEASE HELP! I've already seemed to have wasted over 10 hours and need to get work done.

Try running Disk Utility, and Disk Warrior on the G3. Run them alternately until they show no errors.

  • Missing Photos from my Iphoto library, Please Help!

#1 Woke up yesterday and noticed there are many pictures missing from my Iphoto library.
#2 The folders are still there but there are NO picture in some of them EVEN though my total picture count remains the same. About 25k pics.
#3 I do a google and some forums suggest "rebuilding" the photo album THROUGH my Iphoto Photo Library.
#4 I go ahead and start the rebuilding process which seems conceivably at the rate its going, it might take maybe a full day or more!!
#5 My laptop FREEZES for some mucked up reason at about 5500 photos rebuilt so far. I am forced to force quit Iphoto and RESTART the whole process.
#6 Now during the "rebuild" process. The process stops at and ONLY recognizes up to the 5500 photos.
#7 Now my library ONLY says 5500 photos instead of the 25k
#8 All of my photo FOLDERS still remain.
#9 A little tidbit, I don't know why but my external 2tb hd is somehow connected to my Iphoto, where if my EX HD is not connected I will be missing many photos from my mac laptop Iphoto Library while disconnected.
#10 2 things, I have not backed up my library since Dec 2010, BUT i also have added very little photo since then.
PLEASE HELP ME KIND MAC PEOPLE, What can I do? Where have all my photos in my library gone? Why will it only rebuild now only to 5500 photos. Please shoot my some ideas and help if you can. Thank you very much for your kind advice and help! Humbly "Devastated" for these photos are work and family irreplacable :[

It is unlikely that your problem is a corruped preference file - the correction for that is
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.
It is likely that you have a corrupted library - and backups are NOT just to protect against hardware failures
Note - things fail - software - computers - people - and if you do NOT always have a current backup you will lose all of your photos and other data sooner or later
And the managed library has NOTHING to do with the library you have selected - it has to do with iPhoto preferences you have selected -
Were the "missing" photos only missing when the EHD was no tavailable as you implied?
and do you have a default "managed" library (the iPhoto preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library is in its checked state) or a referenced library - if htat option checked or unchecked?

  • HT1349 I have a new laptop but cannot get my old itunes on it with my library please help

Please help me get my old itunes on to my new computer, yes it is authorised but I cant get my music or anything??

This issue does not have anything to do with AirPort networking. You may find that you will get better assistance if you repost it in the iTunes area.
However, in the mean time, what is the make & model of both your "old" and "new" computers? Was both the iTunes Library and Media Folder located on that old computer? Do you use iTunes Match?

  • I lost my itunes library:( please help

    Well here's what happened.
My computer wasn't working well so i ran system restore to a month previous. Ater that was done i looked for itunes and it wasn't there anymore, there was only an about itunes icon to click on.
So i went to the change/remove programs place on my computer to reinstall it and when i did so it gave me this message "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." "Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package iTunes.msi in the box below."
So now i hit OK and then get the message "The path C:\Documents and settings\Me\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple\Apple Software Update\iTunes.msi cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package iTunes.msi in a folder from which you can install the product iTunes."
So now i'm stuck and have no idea what to do...Please help someone!

With this you usually need to cleanup your installer files with the windows installer cleanup utility.
Here are some general instructions for uninstalling and cleanup.
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instruction on the page as well as the download.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility.
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • LOST LIBRARY - PLEASE HELP!!

Last night I was trying to move some pictures from my wife's phone to my MBP via bluetooth and something went wrong. At a guess, I saved the photo file that I was transferring AS iphoto not IN iphoto - but as i say thats a complete guess. I have moved photos onto the MBP before via bluetooth without problems.
When I open up iphoto now its completely blank and empty - our library was under the 'shared' users folder so that both my wife and I could see it whichever profile we were using. I haven't backed up previous to this (ironically my new G Drive Hard Drive arrived yesterday). I am in the process of backing up now before I try to recover my 'lost' photos - thought right now I am unsure how to do this.
Now when I try to open the iphoto library in the shared folder, it says 'there is no default application to open the document iphoto library' and takes me into the application folder (presumably) to select the iphoto application, but I don't want to select this until I have finished backing up, just in case.
Having looked at package contents under this iphoto library, I can see there is no 'originals' folder in there as has been mentioned in other threads.
Is anyone able to help please?

Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and point it at the Library location.
    If that fails
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
    Regards
    TD

  • Complete novice at LR. Just imported iPhoto library - please HELP!

I have just installed LR and imported my iPhoto library.
LR has created hundreds of folders - one for every day!
Also I now have alphabetised collections for each of my iPhoto events (these were previously in date order)
I wanted my folders to be  - year > month > event.
Is there any easy / quick way to do this? How to I make a collection into a folder?
If its a lot of work - is to worth it or should I just give up and return LR and go back to iPhoto.
    Feeling overwhelmed. Help appreciated.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Getting ipod songs to itunes library please help

ok i did a system revovery on my computer and i was woundering how i get my songs from my ipod to my library
gateway   Windows XP   ipod 30gb vid

I see you use windows xp. you could go out and pay 30 something bucks to get your songs back...or you could do it yourself. first allow hidden files to be seen then go to YouriPodHere>ipod_control>music. take that whole music folder and copy and paste it to your computers hard drive. go to itunes then go to file>add folder> then add that folder wherever you saved it. or you could always bother with paying for things that are done manually at a faster rate for free
    hope this helps,

  • Can't Sync Songs Without Itunes Erasing My Existing Library ( PLEASE HELP!)

Okay, My laptop had a problem and I had to restore my system to it's default setting. In which it deleted everything, Including iTunes. I downloaded iTunes again, and I didn't have any of my songs. So I tried to sync them back, But when I tried to sync it, a box popped up stating 'Are you sure you want to sync music? All existing content on the iPod "Alexis's iPod" will be removed and replaced with songs and playlist from your iTunes library.' . I don't want to delete all my songs and have to start over. I Googled how to and many sites told me to go to the summary section and select " manually manage music and videos" under the options tab, then just drag and drop the songs into the iPod. So I went to the summary and did it. But when I tried to drag and drop the selected song, it wouldn't move, I think it may have to do with the fact that I had to resort to using "file sharing sites" (which I was very reluctant in doing, because of the viruses). I couldn't find the songs I wanted on iTunes so I had to find them on a file sharing site. So my question is, How do I sync my songs from the file sharing site and iTunes with out my songs being deleted?

Apple's software doesn't allow transferring music from the iPod to a computer. There are unsupported programs out there that will do this for you, but most aren't freeware.
    Good luck!

  • Can transfer to playlist, but doesnt show up in library      please help

I have several songs that i am unable to transfer directly to the library.... they are easily dragged/dropped into a playlist in iTunes, but dont show up in the main library.
Also they show up as a playlist on my iPhone 4, but again are not found ANYWHERE in the main library..
After some digging, I was able to find these songs in a folder within the iTunes folder on my PC
The songs are labeled correctly, yet they show up as "unknown album, unknown artist" but they are clearly labeled .... Im confused and just want to get these songs to appear in the main library of iTunes and also on my phone.
They appear as a playlist on my iPhone but I cleared the playlist and suddenly they were gone...instantly.
I just want these songs on my phone...  (these are mp3's that I have had on my PC for years)

Have you had a chance to look at these troubleshooting pages? They may be of some help:

  • TRYING TO SYNC A SHARED LIBRARY WITH LOCAL ITUNES LIBRARY - PLEASE HELP

Hi. I am so desperate. I have not been able to update my iPod for 6 months and am about to go OS and would love to download all my recent music.
The prob is that all our music is in a Shared iTunes library (called iTunes server, on my husband's computer. We are networked). There is not much in my local iTunes library. I am trying to drag all the music from the Shared iTunes library into my local iTunes library but am having no luck.
Does anyone know how I can make my local iTunes library reflect what's in our shared library? Once I work that out then we can do the same and update my husband's local iTunes library, which is where I update my iPod from (since mine is a work computer and has no USB access). Thanks alot if you can help... DESPERATE

When iTunes Match is is on, you don't sync music or playlists with your computer.
