Transferring new library to iPhone w/out erasing phone

I recently got a new laptop, downloaded iTunes on it and began adding new music to my library. I also have 2,000 music files saved on my old laptop's hard drive that are on my iPhone 4S. I was just curious if there was any way to sync my iPhone to my new laptop and add the songs from my new laptop's library to my iPhone without erasing all of the music on my iPhone.

Copy everything from the old computer to the new one.
Iphone will sycn with one nd only one computer at a time. Syncing to another will erase the current content from the iphone and replace with the content from the new computer.

  • I have updated to a new windows computer, and after transfering itunes library via iphone, the app section of itunes is locked and I cannot access it. How can I fix this?

I have updated to a new windows 7 computer, and after transfering my itunes library via iphone, itunes has locked me out of the app section of my phone. I can not add or remove apps using itunes. Is there a way to fix this? I have authorized, deauthorized, restarted, rebooted, and reset both my computer and iphone. Anyone got any ideas?? Thank you!

The safest way to do this would be to copy your itunes library to an external drive. For the purposes of this excersize the new Laptop would be the external drive
    Here is the support article

Then you could erase the iPhone and resync it without losing any content.

  • Set up new iPhone 5 with iCloud restore, then iTunes created new library with only content already on phone. How do I find and sync everything in original library?

My daughter got a new iPhone 5 and we set it up using the option to restore her iPhone 4 backup from iCloud. This worked great and everything on the old phone showed up on the new phone. Because we were traveling, we weren't able to sync the iPhone 5 with iTunes at that time.
She purchased new apps and music on the iPhone 5. When we returned home she synced with iTunes, and it seems to have created a new library, with only the content currently on the phone. I don't know if it prompted her to do this on the first sync or not - she doesn't remember.
So in iTunes, the library now only shows the music on the phone. A sync isn't doing much now because when choosing the phone in iTunes and selecting each content type across the top (Apps, Music, Movies, TV Shows) the box is unchecked to sync that content. When I check the box to "Sync Music", iTunes gives a warning:
Are you sure you want to sync music? all existing songs and playlists on the iPhone Becca's iPhone will be replaced with songs and playlists from your iTunes library.
Same goes for apps, except that warning also mentions that the apps and their data will be erased and replaced.
At some point she was also getting a message that this iPhone was associated with another library, but I'm not sure how she had triggered that. She says she canceled out of that. I can see all of the music
How do we get iTunes to see the "old" library of songs, videos and apps without losing the ones she's purchased already on the iPhone? The music files themselves are still on the computer, and include music both purchased from iTunes as well as music ripped from CDs. Thanks for any advice!

  • Transfering music library from Iphone to new pc

How can I transfer all of my music from my iphone to my new pc. I have only found out how to transfer the music purchased in the itunes store.

Itunes purchased music is all you can transfer. The iphone is NOT a back up device.
The music sync is one way -computer to iphone.
You should move the music from your old computer to the new one, then sync.
You can use your back up copy of your music to do this.

  • Transfering iTunes Library from iPhone

Recently my computer crashed and I had to reinstall Windows 7; all of my files were completely wiped out, but I have always used an external hard drive for the music I upload to my iPhone.
So now I have an iPhone filled with music, the music files in their original location and an empty iTunes library. I don't want to lose all of my music by synching to iTunes and am looking for a way to transfer my iPhone/computer files back into iTunes library without having to re-upload them one by one again.
I have searched the net for quite a while and can't seem to find a solution to this particular problem. Perhaps someone in this forum might know?

Did that.  It told me the computer was already authorized.
Long and short, I went ahead and hit "continue" and this time did not lose all my music data.
However when I do try and sync it now tells me I cannot sync the iphone because the required data could not be found.    This means I have to sync manually (as it were) and takes longer.

  • Transferring iTunes library from iPhone to computer

So, great thing happened, my hard drive crashed last week. Anyway, Apple was unable to save anything, so I lost my iTunes library. However, I have an iPhone and all of my music is still on there. I've been able to transfer purchased items back onto my computer. Yet it will not transfer everything else (i.e. stuff I didn't purchase from the iTunes Store).
Does anyone know how I can go about transferring these things. I've got thousands of songs on my iPhone and hardly any on my computer. I'm a bit annoyed at the moment.
Thanks in advance for your help!

There is no Apple supported way to do this.
The iphone is not storage device. It syncs one way - computer to iphone.
You should always back up important info/music/pics to an external source as hard drives can and do fail.

  • How to reset password on iphone 5c without erasing phone

Our daughter was playing with my wife's Iphone 5c and somehow changed her password to unlock the phone. Now she can't access it. She has not synced this phone in almost a year. If we do the solution EVERYONE keeps telling us, we will lose over a thousand pictures. Is there a way to fix this without losing everything?

No there is not. When the device is disabled because of a forgotten passcode, you have to restore the device. You can restore it from your backup, however it appears that you have failed to create one. Photos are also designed to be imported to the computer for safe keeping. That should be done as often as possible. There is no way to backup the device when it is disabled, you have to restore. • New update! now locked out of phone!!!!!!

    Hi,
Did the recommended software update from itunes, now the phone is sim locked????????
Arrrrggggg have never known a sim code for this phone!
What number do i put in?
    Chris

    Sherif,
Did you unlock the phone when you bought it in Poland? If they unlocked it for you, it may be a software problem. You can call the company in Poland and ask them you unlock it for you again. I believe this is done over iTunes and you don't have to go to Poland.
However, if you didn't unlock you phone in Poland and simply bought it as is. You can still try calling them, they may be able to unlock it via iTunes for you.

  • I just bought a new computer, if I erase and sync my iphone to sync it to my new library, will I lose my apps?

I just bought a new computer, if I erase and sync my iphone to sync it to my new library, will I lose my apps?

    Hey cjacket13,
When you purchase applications on your iOS device, they are tied to your Apple ID so even if you lose them, you can re-download them from your purchase history.
That said, when you first sync your iPhone to your new computer you'll want to transfer purchases from your iOS device to the computer by following these directions here:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer

  • Transferred my Library to new laptop, but how to associate/sync iPhone with new laptop?

I got a new laptop. The old laptop is still working. I transferred my library using the Home Sharing method and all of my items were moved except my apps. I plugged in my iPhone to the new computer and used "Transfer Purchases from iPhone" option and all of my apps were added to the library. But, now I don't know how to associate the iPhone with the new computer. When I plug in my iPhone to the new computer. It starts to sync. It says steps 1 through 3, spins for 20 seconds and says complete, but nothing was done. I do not get the "this iPhone is associated with another library" message when I plug it in to new computer, perhaps because I've authorized both computers. All I can find in my searches is how to avoid losing all of your data and how to transfer your library, but none has dealt with this exact situation. I am stumped as to how to get iPhone associated with new computer. Can I transfer my backup from the old computer and restore from backup? Other thoughts? Sorry if the answer is somewhere (I'm sure it is), but I have spent two days looking.

Randers4, so I carefully followed the directions (only one that confused me was about adding a fake address/calendar entry, is that for Macs, I'm using a PC?.)  I restored it from the backup and everything looked good. I had hope, the final step says to sync it and when I did, I had the exact same problem. It spun, went quickly through only 3 steps (even though there were 7 sync steps with my old laptop) and nothing changed. It clearly didn't sync.
So, I had an idea that I would back up everything by right clicking in the left pane and forcing a back up on the new computer, and then erasing the entire phone and then restoring from the backup I just made to see if that would make a difference. So, after I tried that and it restored, it was weird. All of my settings were there. Some folders were there, my pictures were there, but all of my apps, folders, music and video was missing and it still wouldn't sync. So, then I had to plug it back into my old laptop and do a restore from there to get that stuff back.
Shouldn't I get a message when I plug the iPhone into the new laptop saying this phone is connected to another computer? I tried "Reset Warning Messages" but it doesn't do anything. At this point, I don't care if I lose some of the stuff from my iPhone (texts, etc)...but I want it to sync to the new computer because my old laptop is on its death bed.
So frustrating, all of my iTunes content is on the new computer, the only piece that is missing is getting it to "talk" to the iPhone. Times like this I wish I wasn't a poor teacher and could afford to get a nice Mac laptop.

  • Transferred itunes library from Windows XP PC to new Windows 7 PC. plugged in 3rd gen Ipod. Ipod icon appears along with playlists, music etc. Songs are grayed out and won't play. Please help!

I recently transferred itunes library from windows XP PC to new Windows 7 PC. The transfer was successful, however when I plug my 3rd gen Ipod Nano into the new PC, the Ipod icon appears along with the music, playlists, etc. The songs are shown but are 'grayed out' and wont play or sync. The 'Devices & Printers' window in new PC shows icon for Ipod driver & is OK. The icon for the Ipod appears but depicts a delta shaped warning icon that states that the Ipod is'not operating properly'. Tried troubleshooting. The troubleshooting message states the the Ipod is 'disconnecting'. Can you help me with this problem?

Then, I dropped the entire itunes file from the old PC (XP) into an empty external drive.
That "itunes file from the old PC"?  Is that the iTunes folder, from the old PC, that was in the user home folder's Music folder?
All of the library, playlists, etc. from the ipod as they always have been are shown, by they are 'grayed out' and will not open or play.
That's on the iPod, correct?  Are all of your old playlists in iTunes, from the old PC, still there in iTunes on the new PC?  Are the songs in iTunes still playable?
This document provides the steps to transfer a complete iTunes library between two computers.  See the section called External drive.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer - Apple Support
There are many steps, but this is a summary.  (1) On the old PC, consolidate all of your iTunes data into the iTunes folder.  (2) Copy this iTunes folder to the external drive.  (3) On the new PC (that has iTunes installed but NOT running), replace its existing iTunes folder with the one from the old PC (on the external drive).  When you run iTunes, it uses the iTunes folder from the old PC, and it should look like iTunes on the old PC (with all the playlists, ratings, play count, etc.), and your iPod will see the iTunes library as the same iTunes library (because it is the same library).
If you did something different, and the old PC is still accessible, you may want to try it using the method from the linked document.

  • I HAVE BEEN TRANSFERRING MY ITUNES/IPOD TO A NEW COMPUTER WHICH HAS ALL WORKED EXCEPT MY OLD LIBRARY, PLAYLISTS ETC SHOW UNDER MY IPOD ON THE NEW COMPUTER BUT NOTHING IS IN THE NEW LIBRARY - HOW DO I GET IT THERE?

How do you get everything off the ipod into Library on new laptop & free up the space that was used when transferring (using ipod as hard drive to move over to new computer)? Also when try to sync music a box pops up saying are you sure as everything on the ipod will be removed & replaced with the items in the library but at the moment there's nothing in the library so don't want to lose everything?!  Thanks for your help

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • How do I duplicate the exact playlists from my iphone 4th gen to my new ipod 4th gen 64gb?  So far I've created a new library for it, duplicated all the apps, books

I'v been using an iphone 4 (16gb) for a year now, and have just got an ipod touch 4gen, 64gb.  I created a new library for this, and most of what I have managed to transfer everything onto the ipod touch.  However, although all my music has transferred, the playlists have not.  Do I have to transfer them manually?  That is, creating every playlist again, which would be a nuisance since I have 48 playlists and almost 250 pieces.  All the music have been bought from itunes.
What I plan to use the ipod for is mainly for books, magazines and itunes U podcasts.  Most other apps and music will be the same on both iphone and ipod.  Both are under my same apple id.  Please help, 'cos I've been searching for an answer on the internet and can't really find one.  Everything else has transferred expect the playlists.

    - Go to settings>Store and sign out and sign into your account.
    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.
