Transferring old data to new iPod -- will it remove new apps that come with my new one?

My old iPod Touch is a 2nd generation, IOS 4.2.1, and I now have an iPod Touch 4th generation arriving with either IOS 5 or 6.
I want to transfer my game apps progress -- which I don't want to lose!! --  from the old device to the new device, and I've found out from these discussions that I need to make a backup then restore from backup to the new device, treating it not as a new device.
But does this mean that all the new-to-me app features that come pre-loaded on my 4th generation will be wiped out in the process?
Obviously the 4th generation comes with things my 2nd generation never had, and needless to say I want those to still be there when I add all my old games and other apps.
Can anyone assure me that in the "restore from backup" to my new device, everything from my old iPod will be added to my new one, but won't replace and or wipe out of existence any new features already loaded on my new iPod?
My priorities/worries are:
Not losing any game progress in the transfer,
But also not losing any newer factory-loaded apps or features on the newer iPod, in the transfer.
Thanks for any assistance.

Thank you lllaass, this is reassuring!
So the "restore" adds to what's on the new iPod, not throws it all out/replaces -- good to know. Many thanks.

  • I backed up my new iPod touch with data from my old one. This seems to have erased all the new apps that came with the new iPod. What do I do now?

I got a new iPod Touch today. I wanted to transfer all my apps and data over to the new iPod from my old one, so I restored it from my old one. Unfortunately, it seems to have erased the new apps that come with the latest iPod. What do I do to get the back?

Maybe I'm confusing apps with function. I was looking at the features on Apple's site, and it showed Voice Control, Air Print, Air Play, that sort of thing.

  • HT201269 will a restore delete apps that are on the new phone

I just got an iphone 5 and they lady turned it on and synced my contacts.  My question is, will the backup saved from my iphone 3 delete the new apps that come with the 5?  Will it delete these or will it add my old apps to the new one?

It wont delete the preinstalled Apps of the iPhone 5 if that's what you are wondering.
You can safely restore from the 3G backup and get all your apps onto the new phone.
Alternatively, assuming you use the same apple Id you can simply redownload them form them from the purchased tab in iTunes on the new phone.

  • I updated my ipod and my computer crashed during the update now the apps that come with the ipod such as the app store and itunes are not on my ipod how do i fix this

Connect your iPod to any computer with iTunes installed, highlight your device and try syncing the apps only. If it doesn't work might have to restore through iTunes. With the new iTunes and iCloud beta, you can have the iTunes list what apps are missing on your device but if you had previously purchased in the past and then have iTunes install them. You should always get in the habit of backing up your iPhone whenever you do any firmware/OS updating/upgrading or transferring over to new device. I really really really really hope you can get back at least some of your old info. I will tell you this, I have been kicking myself in the butt for not routinely backing up my iPhone when my beautiful special iPhone 4 came up missing and had to revert back to my 3GS. iPhone 5 will be released in a few months so I am holding off on purchasing a new iPhone til then, not that I did so without reservation and a little bit of iPhone 4 withdraw.

  • The Apple ID has been changed on my iPad but the apps won't update with the new id and password, including the apps that came with the iPad so I can't delete and reinstall with new Apple ID

What do you do if you have bought a used iPad and the apps won't update without the original id and password.  Can't delete the apps that come with the iPad and reinstall them so what do I do?

Correct. An app can only be updated under the Apple ID that was used to orginally acquire the app. If that is a problem you can delete the app and download again under the new userid. If you paid for the app you will have to pay again. Your old Apple ID does not go away so there is no reason to not use it to download the apps.
You cannot delete the apps that came with IOS. If you want to "hide" the apps simply put the apps into an application folder by dragging one app onto another. You can do this to all the IOS apps.

  • Is there a way to remove the apps that came with my ipod?

so you know how when you hold down the home button then all the apps become shaky with the little white X in the corner of them to delete it? Well i was wondering if there is a way to delete the apps that come with the ipod already loaded onto it and dont show up with and X and only shake. Because i never use some of them and they are just taking up space but i dont know if you can delete them. is there a way? thanks!

You can go to settings, general, restrictions, and then enable the restrictions. You can then choose what you want visible on your home screen. To bring back what you've restricted, simply go back to settings, disable the restriction, and it'll be regular again.

  • HT2471 How do I recover my Mac Book Pro back to the day I purchased it? Will I lose the apps that came with this Mac Book when I recover it?

How do I recover my Mac Book Pro back to the day I purchased it? Will I lose apps that came with the Mac Book if I recover it?

Press the command and r keys when turning on your Macbook.  Do not release those keys until you see the apple logo...
Disk Utility will pop up.....Your choices are to reinstall, you will not lose anything....
if however, you decide to format/erase your drive, then reinstall, you will lose everything...
suggestion - back everything up and do a clean install.
    good luck

  • Hi I would be grateful if someone can help me, I have just bought a canon wireless printer, I only have an iPad so I can not install the cd that comes with the new printer yet it says it is compatible. How do I get it working I have a pay as you go 3G sim

I do not use the Internet using wifi I use 3G mobile broadband and if I do need wifi it tells me I have to pay for it, but I can not work out how to install or connect my iPad with my new printer if there is not a cd slot or USB port. I only have an iPad no computer so how on earth do I use my printer with it if it I can't install the printer cd. I though I would be able to use Bluetooth and it would pick it up automatically but I am really confused now and don't know what to do please help.

The iPad uses AirPrint technology to print to a printer. Check this Apple support page to see if your printer is listed as being AirPrint compatible.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
If your printer works with AirPrint you will need a Wi-Fi network in order to connect. That Wi-Fi network does not need to be connected to the Internet. As James Ward4 says, you'll need a Wi-Fi router to set up your network. Most routers require that a computer be used during the setup process. Perhaps you could use someone's computer to do the setup if you do not had one yourself. Once the router is set up you should be able to print.

  • Is data transfer included in the 90-day tech support which comes with a new MacBook Air?

I would think so.  A friend is buying a new MacBook Air, and needs to know if data transfer is included in the 90-day technical support offer from Apple.  I'm pretty sure it is, but just would like to make sure I'm steering her in the right direction.
    Thanks.

Instructions yes, performing the actual data transfer, not likely.  Here are a couple of links that may be useful:

  • Why does my new iPod touch randomly delete my apps?, Why does my new iPod touch randomly delete my apps?

I got an iPod for Xmas and it seems to randomly delete some of my apps... Luckily they were all free but I'm scared to buy any I case it happens again.

Are you sure they are not just moved to another screen or folder? Do a Spotlight search for them to confirm thay are actually removed.
All your apps should be kept on your computer, in your iTunes account. You control which apps you want on your touch thru iTunes sync settings. If you have not been syncing to iTunes, and the apps are truly gone, you can re-download them for free from the iTunes Store> Quick Links> Purchases section and then sync back to the touch.

  • Will we ever be able to delete the apps that come with the ipod?

I think that the next update for the ipod should make it so you can delete those unwanted apps(stocks, newstand, passbook, messages, reminders) because I have NEVER used them and I would like to use that space for something else instead.

You are not talking to Apple here.  To contact them, use: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodtouch.html

  • How annoying! The lack of accessories that come with a new

In fact, from what I understand, this is true of all portable MP3 products. What is it with not giving you a power adaptor with it's? Having a USB cable is all very well and good but it has limited use. The reason I bought the Zen is because I dont have a PC at home so I can record directly from my hi-fi, and if Im at work, I listen to music from my PC so its pointless me bringing my MP3 to work! The other reason for having an MP3 player is for travelling so again, USB cable of no use to me whatsoever. Everyone is going to need a power adaptor at some point! Now I have to go and find one, would love to buy one online but the postage is almost as much as the actual item! What an annoying rip off. I think great customer service would be providing people the option of paying extra for, what?should really be a standard item, to have the items in one box. I would pay even more to have the armband thrown in too to save me the hassle of having to track one of those down. V. frustrating, come on Creative, it would be a great marketing tactic.
Just to add insult to injury, my computer at work has NT4 so I cannot set up my MP3 player here anyway. I think MP3 player makers are missing out on a massi've part of the market i.e. people who are not good with computers by tying them so closely to PC use. *Rant Over*?What does everyone else think?

Unfortunately, the market seems to follow the iPod's example.
Original Zen Micros came very well equipped: nice, long USB cord, (not the stubby one provided now), cradle, belt clip, wall socket charger, soft cloth storage bag, software CDs, print manual and probably a few things I've forgotten.
My brother recently was given an iPod Shuffle. It came in a box without software and only had headphones, the docking cable & a small instructions card.
Once iPods dropped wall chargers [and hopefully dropped their prices too], many of the other manufacturers followed suit.
I think it's a pity not to have a wall charger- how much does one cost at the factory level? It would save a considerable amount of frustration for people who do not have computers with them everywhere they travel.

  • Will deleting account delete apps that go with it?

my new xmas gift ipad when connected to my mac, was able to sync with another ipad account that is not mine (don't ask me how, I am not sure why.)  As a result, I have several apps on my new ipad that I love but did not officially purchase.  my ipad also is synced with the "other" ipad owner's account.  I want to delete that account off of my ipad but don't want to lose the apps.  please help.

You didn't buy the apps, so you really have no right to keep them.
You don't delete accounts off of the device, you sign in and out of accounts. Settings>iTumes & App Stores>Apple ID. You can sign out of the wrong account in there and sign in with your own account.
