Transferring old emails in Mail to gmail

Hi,
I have just started using gmail and would like to transfer all the messages I have in my Mail app from a different email account into my gmail account. Does anyone know a way of doing this? Or does anyone know if this is not possible?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Steve,
The best most complete method would be to use Migration Assistant to Migrate everything, but if they're networked with File Sharing enabled on the older one, then connect using the G5's username & Password, then on the new Mac use Mail>File>Import Mailboxes>Apple Mail...

  • How do i remove an old email address listed under gmail in the default calendar window?  The 'edit' calendar pop up doesnt let me change or edit the old address?

Hi,  I am tryingto remove an old email address that appears in my Calendar under 'show calendars'.  It appears under a Gmail label.  The edit button only allows me to turn on the gmail (with the incorrect email address) and the iCloud and Birthdays options. It does not allow me to change to email address from the old, incorrect email to the new one.  The new one I use is correctly shown in the Gmail account under the Mail, Contacts, Calendar settings.
    Any ideas.

If I start an email to John Doe. I type in his name and if I look at the drop down menu when I click his name, it will offer several options, including "open in address book". Makes sense. He is already there.
But some names, a few to be sure, have "add to address book" even though they are already there.
And if I open the address book and open their page, I will see all the info, just as I should.
But if I click on the "add to address book", the same email address is repeated on their page in the address book. So I could end up with the same email address 5 times on the page.
Someone told me once that if I cannot cure the bug then I should consider it a "feature".

  • Duplicate emails in Mail with gmail

Hi, I keep getting multiple duplicate emails in my inbox. Even the one's I've deleted keep coming back. They appear across my folders and it's really frustrating as I'm unable to stop it. I've checked the discussions but cannot see an obvious solution (unless I'm looking in the wrong place) other than to disable my POP account in gmail settings, which I've done. Can anyone offer any help please?

  • Deleting Old Emails In Mail

I have a huge archive of emails from 2001 to 2004 stored in Mail which I can now safely delete to free up some space.
How can I delete these old emails in 'lumps' rather than laboriously delete them one by one?

You can delete your emails one mailbox at a time.
Select the mailbox you want to delete. At the bottom of the mail window, under the list of mailboxes, there is a menu with a little cog wheel. Choose delete from this menu. This deletes the mailbox you had selected.

  • Transfering old emails onto new Macbook Pro ?

On my old white macbook there are lots of old emails that I wish to keep for various reasons. How can i transfer these onto my new Macbook Pro so they sit in the email page (running in classic mode) above the new mail ? ie all the old is in email, new messages at the bottom, older above.
    Hope this makes sense ?
    Cheers
    Brian.

I am using the normal Apple -mail on both laptops.

  • Is there a way to forward *all* my emails (from Mail to gmail)?

I'm switching accounts with my ISP (Verizon, long story, not really relevant) and I can't keep the same username, I want to forward all the emails I've kept in Apple Mail to my Gmail account and use that from now on for everything.
There are only about 150 of them in there, but I'm looking for a way to send them all without doing them by hand individually (I did command-A and selected all of them but it said it was too big (27MB, 21MB limit) to send through my server (I deleted as much as I could, I realize I could split them in half but ideally I'd do a batch of all of them but arriving at Gmail *individually*).
    Can this be done? Thanks

Yes that's what I meant by splitting it up, but ideally I want to have each email arrive individually (without forwarding each one by hand—but I don't know if it's possible).

  • Sending Group emails on Mail via Gmail

    Can anyone help?
If i send an email (Gmail account) to a group from my contacts on Mail it is rejected. If I copy the address' and do exactly the same thing but directly through Gmail web page, it goes through.
Any ideas on a fix for this?
    Many thanks,

  • How do I migrate my old emails in Mail from one Mac to another?

I've upgraded from a G5 (OS Tiger) to a Mac Pro (OS Leopard). I've set up Mail on the Pro, but I want to migrate/move all my email folders, Inbox messages, Sent mail, etc. from my G5 to the Pro. I thought manually grabbing all folders and files from Library/Mail/... and placing them in the same place on the Pro would have done the trick, but no emails show when I have Mail up.
I've searched through Apple Support, but the closest match is migrating from a PC to a Mac. Not quite what I'm looking for.
This seems like a pretty standard question. Hopefully someone out there can walk me through it.
    Thanks!

  • Transferring old email accounts on iPhone 3G to new iPhone 4

How do I transfer all my email accounts (10+) on my old iPhone 3G to my new iPhone 4 without having to add all the account information again?

Thanks Julian. Sorry for the stupid question as I always thought it would be better to do synchronisation over the air, but I now read indeed it's just the account information iTunes syncs. Best, Fernando

  • Transferring old emails from old iMac to new iMac

I've just gotten a new intel Imac (10.6.6). Can anyone point me in the direction of instructions on how I can get the emails off my old iMac's (10.4) hard-drive and into the new iMac's mailboxes?
On a related topic, anyone know how I can retrieve the address-book information and Safari bookmarks from the old hard-drive?
    Thanks for your time.
    Dan

    Daniel,
The easiest way would have been to use Startup Assistant. You can still go this route if you're interested by following Pondini's article beginning at *Second chance to use Setup Assistant.*

  • Transferring old email from old comcast account to new email with new comcast account

i moved and was told that i needed to go online to associate my emails from my old comcast account to my new comcast account. how do i do this?  i was told i had 90 days to keep my current email addresses

It sounds like you were given some bad information.  What happens when you cancel service at an address is that the User ID/email address is suspended for 90 days.  After that it is released back into the pool of available IDs for any other customer who wants it.  You should have set up a transfer of the old ID to the new service address before you moved.  However, you can call Comcast security and see if they can retrieve the ID and the emails for you------------------------------

  • How do I delete 88,000 emails on Mail

I use the email from my COX Internet provider account on Safari and only once in awhile the MAIL application opens up because, for example, I am sending the link to a Web page to someone. For whatever reason, if I do end up opening MAIL, it takes a long time to open all my various mail account on COX, GMAIL, YAHOO, and download new and old emails.   I see that on, one COX account alone, there are 88,000 messages, mostly unread.  I tried to sort via incoming date and deleting them using select shift to highlight pages of the messages and hitting delete. Even if that works, I see that it will take unacceptable amounts of my time and I might even then have to empty the TRASH on Safari to finally get rid of all of them. That takes more hours when the computer, not me, will be working.
Anyway, looking at various support pages I've not found out how to delete either all, or most of the old emails on MAIL and still have them on my accounts in the IP Cox mail, gmail and yahoo.  The INBOXES on those are not close to being as bad as the situation on the MAIL app. MAIL seems to have emails back to when I bought the computer.  Maybe if I straighten it out, I might find MAIL more useful.
Of course, I suppose I could just leave the MAIL inbox full of 88,000 since it does not seem to do any harm, except to make me not want to use MAIL.
Preferably, it would be nice to clean up the application, but I do not know how.

    Hi Donald,
click on "Mailbox" then "Restore" (the very last option in the dropdown menu). Mail will empty the inbox (ALL MESSAGES WILL BE DELETED FROM YOUR INBOX) and will try to reload all the messages right from the mail server(s). If you want to keep the inbox empty simply disconnect your computer from the Internet before clicking "Restore" and change the account settings so that Mail doesn't check your accounts on startup and/or automatically (you'll find that in the account settings).
I hope, this is the solution you were looking for.

  • How to transfer emails from Mail onto iphone?

just got my iphone and having fun using it so far.
i am trying to get work out how Mail works on the iphone in terms of how it syncs with Mail on my imac.
i really want to load some old emails from Mail (on my imac) onto the iphone. i tried dragging them from Mail onto the iphone icon in itunes but it won't let me do that.
for example i deleted some emails on the iphone by mistake, yet they are still in my inbox on the imac and wish to transfer them back onto the iphone so i can read thme on the move.
is there a way to do so?

Email account mailboxes and messages are not included in the iTunes sync process and you cannot drag or transfer email from your computer to your iPhone or vice-versa.
The iPhone's Mail app is no different in this regard from using an email client on your computer.
If you want email account mailboxes and messages to be kept synchronized with the server with each email client used to access the account, you need an IMAP account, not a POP account. Either way there is no option to drag or transfer email from your computer to your iPhone or vice-versa just as it isn't possible to do the same between two email clients on your computer.

  • Added Gmail as POP to Apple Mail now downloading all old emails.

Is there any way to stop downloading old gmail emails, or get them to download faster. If I use my iPhone 4 it just downloads my new e-mails from gmail. However, I added my Gmail account to my iMac Apple Mail s a POP account and now it is downloading every email that I have ever received in Gmail. So far over 5000 messages about seven at a time and I am only up to December 2007!
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the feedback.
On closer inspection there is an option on the Gmail POP setting page (in Gmail) to choose "Mail from today"!!!!! Moral of story is to RTFM
Again many thanks for taking the trouble to reply.
