Transferring old text messages to new computer

Hi. I have Nokia suite in an old computer. I have access to approx. 16000 messages!!
I need to wipe my computer to upgrade windows. I know I can reinstall Nokia suite, but it seems to only be showing the current messages I have on my phone. (I tried this on another computer)
Is it possible to somehow save all those really old text messages going back years, and also videos and pictures, so that I will have access to them when I reinstall Nokia suite on the upgraded computer.
Thanks
Bronagh

Hi @bkenny13 ,
The messages are stored in database files as explained in
http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nokia-Suite/Where-Does-Suite-Store-Sync-d-Messages-amp-in-What-Forma...
Videos and pictures are in the folders that you or Windows decided to use
Upgrading Windows can be a scary thing, especially if you do a clean install and restore manually afterwards. It is the best way to get a smooth running Windows, but please make sure that everything is copied to an external hard drive first, that way you have a way to find and restore things that you didn't know you were going to miss!

I just got a new iPhone 4S and I want to transfer my old text message conversations from my iPhone 3 over to my new phone. Is there any way to do this. I have transfered my apps, songs, videos, pictures, but I can't figure out how to transfer the text message conversations.

  • HELP - N8 Adds old text messages to new created

Since I did a *#7370# reset of my N8 to solve the Ovi Sync issue I have the problem that when sending an text message the N8 adds old text messages to it.
Even text from messages that where deleted a long time ago from my phone are apparently stored somewhere on the phone and appear at the end of the new created text messages.
I have done a *#7370# reset again but the problem keeps alive and kicking.
Also a restore of only my contacts and calendar data doesn't help.
    Thanks!
Edit : Found out that there also other recipients are added to the message. So the text message is not only sent to the original recipient but also to others from my phonebook.

I'm still not 100% sure what causes this problem.
I've found messages from a few others and it seems that the problem begins after the restore of a backup.
In my case that's also when it happend, I had done a reset and a restore and after that it was a sort of living it's own life.
For me the solution was to do another reset, I did the "hard reset" with the buttons pushed, and after the reset I only restored the calendar data and the contacts data.

  • Transferring some Mail messages to new computer

Using OSX.6.8 and Mail on both computers. I have several years of email messages from customers that I need to keep. Each year they are archived so I assume all I have to do is copy the archives to the new machine. How? As for this year I have about 2,000 messages or so that I need to keep. How do I get them into the new computer's Mail program just like they are on the old one? I've already set up the accounts on the new computer. I just need the messages that were not on the server (only the last few day's worth were still there). TIA

    This is one way.
Create a new smart mailbox (click on the plus in the lower left corner)
For the criteria use "date received - is after the date - 12/31/2010"
Check the box to include sent messages if you require that.
    Give it a name.
    Click OK.
Right or control click on the new mailbox select archive mailbox.  Save somewhere convenient.
Copy this file over to your new mac.
On the new mac do the Mail > File > Import Mailboxes.

  • Trouble with transfering old songs/videos onto new computer

Not long ago my computer got a virus and I needed to reconfigure it and what not. As I finished, I installed itunes and purchased quite a few videos and songs that are now in my library. My question is, how can I transfer the songs and videos on my ipod into my current itunes library without deleting the purchased items already in my library. So that when im done i will have the same songs on my ipod in my library, so then my ipod will be completely sync'd with the library and i will still have the new purchased items too. Thank you in advance for your feedback and support!

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • How do I get my old text messages from my iPhone to my new Galaxy?

Recently, I just upgraded from an iPhone 4 to a Samsung Galaxy 4.  I upgraded my account from Sprint and got my new phone at Best Buy.  I'm trying to get into my iTunes because I know I recently synched my iPhone on my iTunes a little over a week ago.  What I'm trying to do is get into my iTunes because I know my iCloud is backed up on iTunes.  I got all of my contacts and pictures already transferred from my iPhone to my Galaxy.  Now, that last thing I'm really worried about is my old text messages. There is this old text message that I'm needing to save, but I can't seem to figure out how to get my old text messages to my new phone.
Is there some way I can get those back or what I need to go to Geek Squad to help me with this?

Apple has not designed the iPhone for loading up old messages across phone platforms.
Screenshot the important stuff on the Android or use a tool to archive the old SMS on your computer.

  • When transferring from a 3GS to a Iphone 5, will my old text messages transfer?

I'm transferring from a 3GS to a new IPhone 5. Will my old text messages and emails transfer via the cloud or from my computer?
    Thanks.

"Messages (iMessage and carrier SMS or MMS pictures and videos)."
The messages should transfer, and the emails are attached to the email server so your inboxes will come back as well.

  • I upgraded my iphone to 5.0.1 and ever since, it has decided to delete old text messages. Only with one contact though, not everybody. So for every new text message I send this person, an old one gets removed. Why? I don't want this to happen.

Connect the phone directly to the computer, not a hub.
Disconnect all other USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
    Disable your firewall
    Disable your antivirus
In iTunes if it recognizes the phone click "Restore"
If it doesn't recognize the phone:
Disconnect the phone from the phone end, leave the USB cable plugged into the computer
Hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons until the screen turns black, excactly 10 seconds, then release the SLEEP but continue holding the HOME (If an Apple logo appears you have held SLEEP too long; do it over)
While holding HOME connect the cable to the phone
As soon as iTunes recognizes the phone release the HOME button and it should restore.
If neither procedure works note the exact error message and post it.

  • HT204053 I transferred my library to a new computer. Now have a different apple ID and it won't let me play songs from the previouse library and pops up with my old apple ID, which I don't have the password? Any ideas?

I transferred my library to a new computer. Now we have a different ID and it won't let us play most of our library? It prompts us to use our old apple ID with a different email and lost password? Any ideas how to be able to play our extensive, expensive catalog?

All content that you download from iTunes is tied to the account that downloaded it, and it can't be transferred to or merged with another account - so you will need to authorise that old account on that computer if you want to use its content.
If you still have access to the email accoun then you can try getting the password reset via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password
If you don't have access to the email account then you could try contacting iTunes support and see if they can help you get access to the account : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • How to sync old text messages to a new phone?

Does anyone know how to transfer old text messages from a 4 g phone to a new 4 g (replacement phone)? I've tried Itunes several times and it didn't work.

  • I transferred my library to my new computer (old one completely dead!) and the music transferred but not my audio books.  They aren't appearing in my purchased history.  Can anyone help?

I transferred my library to my new computer (old one dead!) and the music transferred to a new library ok, but not my audiobooks.  My purchased history doesn't show any purchasing in this format.  Can anyone help?

Audiobooks are a one-time only download from the store, so you won't be able to redownload them via the Purchased link. Do you have a copy of them on your iPod or on your backup of your downloads/library ? If not, and if they are still in your country's store, then you can try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will grant you a re-download : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • New blackberry old pAYG sim old text messages not showing anywhere?

Hi Can someone help a real technophobe? I bought a Blackberry 8520 and inserted my old sim (PAYG) same network. I really need all my old text messages approx 100 on my new phone but they're no where to be seen. I put the sim card back in my old phone and they were there but in the BB 8520 they're not. Anyone any ideas of how I can get my old text messages on to the new BB? How many old text messages can a BB 8520 hold? New to all this. I've tried taking the battery out and inserting it to reboot but nothing seems to work.
    Thanks.

  • I have a new computer. i signed into itunes but my music isn't there.  How do i get all my music off my old iphone to the new computer

I have a new computer. i signed into itunes but my music isn't there.  How do i get all my music off my old iphone to the new computer so i can put all the music on my new one.
The guy at att told me that icloud would sync everything i had in my notes, calendar, and text messages to my new phone, but it only synced some of my notes, none of my messages, or calendar info.

Your music will only be where you put it.  It will not magically appear on a new computer.
Copy everything from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.
If for some reason you cannot do this, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an iphone:  Without syncing - File>Transfer Purchases
You can also redownload itunes purchases from icloud in some countires:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • HT4137 Will doing this erase old text messages?  If so, is there any way to avoid losing them?

I just looked read iOS: How to back up your data and set up as a new device.  I've been having a few bugs, but do not want to lose my old text messages.  Will setting up as a new device and then syncing erase old text messages?  If so, is there any way to avoid losing them?

You will not lose text message, if you back up your phone correctly and then restore from that backup.  If your going to restore your phone as new and not from backup, then your text will not be there until you decide to restore from that backup.
If you don't want to lose the message, take a look in the app store to see if you can transfer to your computer.
