Transferring Outlook meeting notices (ics files) to iCal

Hello,
When I receive an outlook meeting notice in Mail the ics file does not show up as an attachment. If I look at the same email in my web account the ics meeting notice shows up and can be downloaded and added to ical with no problems. Is there a way to get the ics file to show up as an attachment in Mail or to have it load in iCal properly? Thanks for the help.
Doug

Is there a solution for this problem. Since I am using Mail I have the same problem. As long as I used Eudora this problem didn't occur.
TIA,
Dick

  • Problem importing ics files into iCal

Importing ics files into iCal is the problem, but first here is the background on why I'm trying to import.
I have an iMac and iPad, and recently changed my iPhone 3G for an iPhone 4S.  Having got the iPhone 4S I have now set up all my devices to use iCloud.  In moving iCal to iCloud an extra calendar was created "automatically" in iCal, called "Me".  This "Me" calendar contains a partial duplicate of my main calendar, which is called "My Calendar".  In fact, some of the events from "My Calendar" seem to have been moved to "Me", and some have been duplicated.
It seems as it I now need to merge the "Me" and "My calendar" calendars to get back to where I was.
I have tried to export one of the calendars and then re-import it into the other.  The export seems to work fine, but every single time I try to re-import the ics file iCal crashes at the end of the import process, and the import is not completed.
Can anyone help?  This has been driving me absolutely crazy today!
I even tried manually moving events from one calendar to another, but they reappeared.  I think this was because my iPhone/iPad were re-syncing via iCloud and overwriting the changes I had just made.
I don't mind if I end up with one calendar with duplicates as I can remove them with iCal Dupe Deleter.
Or if there are any other alternative solutions I'd love to hear them!
    All help greatly appreciated!
(P.S. Is it just me, or is Apple software slowly getting as unreliable as Windows used to be?  I get more problems with software updates now than when I first got a Mac about 8 years ago!)

Not a great answer but I dragged the attachment either to the finder - app - ical or the icon. It placed it on the calendar. I clicked in and accepted. So, no auto populate. Need to drag and drop. So glad I paid the 20 bucks to upgrade to 10.8

  • How do I find my ics files for iCal calendars in Lion?

The migration from mobileme to iCloud destroyed my home calendar.  I'm trying to restore.
The files in /library/calendar have funny names that don't map to home.ics or work.ics.
Where are the local copies of .ics files and how can I restore them in iCal?

    Hi
The .ics files for the different calendars are in "/Users/<username>/Library/Calendars/<ID>.calendar"
In every "<ID>.calendar" directory you find a "Info.plist" file that contains the name of the calendar. You can quick look the Info.plist file to see the name of the calendar.

  • Dbl-click ics file opens iCal, but no event is created; import works

I have an ics file that opens iCal when I double-click it (either the file in the Finder, or the same file as an attachment in Mail). However, the event described in the ics file is not created.
When I use File->Import in iCal, and select the same file, it asks me to choose the calendar and then the event is created.
Why the different behavior? I would expect dbl-clicking to work exactly the same as doing an Import.
    This is iCal 4.0.3

I think I have solved my problem. I could not get v2 to import to v4 so I was trying to sync to .Mac, then use Mobile Me to bring it down to the new computer and I have succeeded.
On the old laptop, I had to use the RESET SYNC info in the ADVANCED button to make the direction of the data go from the original computer to .Mac, then do the same on the new one to make it go from .Mac to the v4 iCal.
This is how you change the direction of the data when it says it's going to add 1 item and erase 240 but you want to do this the other way around!
I am not sure if this solves the problem of the iPhone but there has to be a way to reverse the direction of the sync on there too.

  • .ics file error : "iCal can't read this calendar file."

I would like to add my flight itinery to my iCal. Downloaded the .ics file from the BA website. When double clicking on it and dragging it to iCal this message pops up: "iCal can’t read this calendar file. No events have been added to your iCal calendar."

I also tried converting it to .vcs. Then iCal asks which calender I would like to add it to but still comes up with above message.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Hi!
I managed to import the file when I deleted everything that had to do with HTML code at the end of the file. I'm not exactly sure about the purpose of this code, but deleting it left me with my flights inside my calendar, exactly as I wanted.

  • How do I publish calendars imported into iCal from a .ics file to iCloud rather than MobileMe?

Having upgraded my iPhone4 & iPad to iOS5 and my iMac to OSX 10.7.2, I have been having trouble with duplicate calendar entries. Unfortunately, having deleted all but one calendar from the iCloud web interface, I heeded the mistaken advice to disable Calendars in the iCloud preference pane on the iMac and it deleted the calendars that had been removed from iCould from the iMac as well.
A few false starts later, I was able, after disconnecting all my devices from the net, to restore my iCal calendars with TimeMachine from before the chaos started then exported them as .ics files. After rebooting and re-enabling the network to the iMac, iCloud sync purged the restored calendars from iCal again, so I imported the .ics files into iCal and published them again, but the publish options only include MobileMe or a private server, so I chose MobileMe. iCal now happily shows all my calendars on the iMac again, but the iCloud web Calendar app can't see them.
How can I get iCloud to see the published iCal calendars again?

Solved, I think! What you need to do is log on to your icloud account at www.icloud.com, go to the calendar screen, click the gearwheel and choose New Calendar. Create a calendar here (ie up on the iCloud) with the name you want for your imported calendar data. Then switch to iCal - you may have to quit and relaunch for the new iCloud calendar to appear (or it will probably do so automatically if you wait long enough) then import the data using File->Import->Import... When you get to the step where it asks which calendar you want to import the data into, choose the new iCloud calendar you've just created. Job done!
To be complete in my answer, I don't think you can exactly do what you want to do, at least not at present. There doesn't seem to be any way to publish a calendar to iCloud after the first time you set up iCloud on your Mac when it exports any calendar data that is on the Mac at that time. I suppose that Apple feel that the way I have described works by exporting from one calendar and importing into another, so no need to provide a way of doing it directly.

  • Launching .ics file from a website?

i'm trying to provide ical and outlook files for guests to an event. i've linked both an .ics file (for iCal users) and a .vcs file (for Outlook) from the website, yet when a user clicks on either link, code is displayed onscreen as opposed to a prompt to download the file. is there a way to launch these links as file downloads w/o having to zip them? numerous calendar and invitation sites provide this feature, but they are dynamically creating the .ics and .vcs files - though they do end up as downloaded files.
(www.cindyandkenny.com/test > click 'when & where' to see the iCal and Outlook links)
    thanks.

    Hi Kenny,
The .ics file opens in iCal for me. The .vcs file opens as text. This is probably a mime type problem.
You might want to try adding a htaccess file to your site including the following lines:
    AddType text/x-vCalendar .vcs
    AddType text/Calendar .ics
    Best wishes

  • ICal 4.0.1 will not save imported ics files - outlook works fine

I am not sure when this started happening because I haven't had to import a calendar event for a while. We recently switched over to Exchange 2007 and now with SL I can run in native exchange mode for iCal.
Ever since that, if I open a .ics calendar file, iCal will ask which calendar to open it with and then silently ignores the event. If I open the same .ics file in Outlook it opens, saves and the event will show up in iCal from the exchange server.
I've stripped the event down to the most bare elements making sure it wasn't a data format issue, still no go.
Any ideas on how to solve this? I'd hate to have to run parallels all the time just to accept events now...

I have what seems to be a similar issue. Are you having other issues like mine?
    Macbook air      11-inch, Late 2010
                            4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    Software           Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
I have updated the latest combi update from the apple site and still have the same issue.
No matter what I try every time I restart my Mac all my preferences and applications reset. (Also preferences don't save when exiting the preference folder)
For example when in >system preferences>general -untick the 'restore windows when quitting and re-open apps' I exit preferences and then go back in to check it has automatically reticked the box.
I have deleted 2 applications several times (including removing the icon from the dock) and each time after restarting it shows a question mark on the dock where I had deleted it from.
On restart I loose downloads and history in safai.
On restart it re opens documents and applications I have quite even after unticking the restore applications on restart box (the one that comes up when shutting down or restarting)
I have been trying to solve this for a month now and it really is frustrating the **** out of me.
    helpppp pleaseee...

  • Outlook meeting invites received as ICS txt file in Yahoo mail

My boss is sending Outlook 2010 meeting invites to external users at Gmail, Yahoo, & hotmail.   Gmail accept the meeting invite, but yahoo and hotmail get that as text (.ICS) files.
He is convinced this is an issue with our Exchange server and/or Outlook.  Should he expect that Outlook meeting invites will be received correctly in other mail platforms or is there something I need to enable/install on either his Outlook or
the Exchange 2010 server to enable this?
    Thank you,

    Hi,
To determine if it's an issue on Outlook or Exchange, you can send a meeting request from OWA, check if this issue persists.
In Outlook, please go to File tab -> Options -> Calendar -> Calendar Options -> Have you checked "When sending meeting requests outside of your organization, use the iCalendar format"? Check or Uncheck it and click OK to test if this
    is involved.

  • Ical will not process meeting responses from Outlook.  I send out meeting notices from Ical to nonOutlook and Outlook users.  The nonOutlook users respond and I see that in my Ical Meeting.  The Outlook users also respond but I do not see theirs

I send out meeting notices from Ical to nonOutlook and Outlook users.  The nonOutlook users respond and I see the green check mark in my Ical Meeting.  The Outlook users also respond but I see a gray "?" as if they didn't respond.  Has anyone had this issue and if so, is there a fix?  I'm currently running OS X 10.10.2    Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

No get this:  I received a reply from another Mac user using iCal 4.0.4 showing "event accepeted" in the subject. But my iCal 5.0 will NOT recognize his acceptance.  What is going on?

  • ICal is not importing an ICS file sent by Cisco Webex

    Hello everyone.
I've been trying to find an answer for this issue, but I haven't found anything specific to what I'm facing.
When I send or receive an invitation which was sent by Cisco Webex, I simply can't add it to iCal.
When I click on the ICS file, iCal opens however nothing happens. No error, nothing. It simply ignores that, as it never existed.
Several months ago I quit iCal and started using BusyMac, it was working ok, but then the company I work moved to Outlook 365 and BusyCal was not ready for that, then when it became ready, it started to present some instabilities... then I quit BusyCal and got back to iCal.
Now I always have to add an appointment manually, which is just not handy for someone who has several webex appointments per week.
It's being months now that I am facing this issue. I thought that we the new version of Cisco Webex would solve that, but it did not.
    Any help is really appreciated.
    Thank you.
PS: Today I was really decided to open a ticket at Cisco's support (Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for current customers only.) but guess what...
"We're very sorry. There was a problem and we weren't able to process your request. Please try again! "
I tried, and I tried, and I tried again... and here I am.

  • Track response of .ICS file(Meeting request) in SAP R/3

    Dear Experts,
I am able to send the meeting request to MS-Outlook using the following thread.
When the user opens the .ICS file and accepts the meeting request in MS-Outlook, the MS-Outlook calender gets booked.
Now the requirement is, Once User accepts the meeting request an event should be trigerred in SAP R/3 so as to track the User response. Is there any BADI/API s available which can be used to achieve this?
    Regards,
    Vaishali.

    Hi,
Triggering the event is the easy part. That will be just pure ABAP development.
Your problem is that how can you call your function/method (or whatever) from the Outlook (or from Exchange server). So, you should really try to investigate the possible modification or enhancement possibilities of the Echange server - and this is not really an SDN issue at all (of course if you are lucky, someone could notice this thread and help). If you find a way to add some kind of "modification" to the Exchange server (for example you could find a way to call a web service always when the meeting request is accepted), then you can easily build the necessary web service around your ABAP function.
Another approach could be that you try to utilize the possible Exchange server web service API. For example it seems that there is some kind of availibility service available, which you could use to find out the user's availibility (I am not sure though that is it possible to see whether the user has accepted the meeting request or not). Anyhow, if you find out a way for this, you could call the web service from your ABAP system to find out the corresponding information from Exchange server.
    Good luck.

    Karri

  • ICal won't import .ics files from Mail

    Howdy,
I've been using mail/iCal for some time. I get meeting requests via email from Microsoft Outlook users in the .ics format. I used to be able to just click on the .ics file in mail, or drag it to my calendar, and it would add the meeting. But past few months, when I click on the .ics file, nothing happens. If I drag the .ics file to my calendar, I see a "blank" event with nothing in it on the date of the meeting.
However... if I save the .ics file to my desktop, then go to File -> Import and select that file, it works fine. Just frustrating because it takes a lot of extra steps.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Hi:
Just started to have the same problem with importing events onto my iBook. Problem has been made worst in that while I get attached ics files from emails coming from my Outlook 2003 application on my desktop computer, emails from work (also using Outlook 2003 on a Microsoft Mail Exchange Network) no longer even include ics file. (Note: Outlook to Outlook meeting invites do work.)
Am wondering if the combination of the most recent updates from Apple for iCal and Mail may be at fault?
Anyone out there have any ideas on this? It was nice being able to indirectly sync my Outlook and iCal calenders, but now it is a pain in the you know where.
Any help will be welcomed. Thanks.

  • Opening an ICS file doesn't open event in iCal

Opening an ICS file in Apple Mail no longer opens the event in iCal. I don't recall the last time it worked but I know, in the past, double clicking an ICS file in Apple Mail would open the actual event iCal so you could see and modify it. Now, the only thing that happens is iCal opens........and you then have to manually locate the event.
I have the option to Automatically Add invitations to iCal and that is working but I have quite a few users that want the previous functionality back. I know we can use the Quick Look Attachment option and see the event details but that's not as convenient as simply double clicking and going straight to the event.
I'm seeing this problem with 10.6 and 10.7.

Having the same problem here - it's driving me nuts!
I tried installing YAI, but I can't make it point to the correct calendar. I can cut and paste an event into the Google Calendar, but if it's an outlook invite it will delete the event on all the attendee's computers.

Re-creating the Hotmail account OST file makes no difference.

requires approximately 15 clicks, instead of two or three, so isn't workable for large numbers of meeting requests.
Meeting requests can be added to the local pst file calendar successfully.  This calendar is not used because it doesn't allow synching with other devices.

Sorry for the delay. I was supposed to get alerts on this, but I never did. N2K has been built and rebuilt, and still the error comes up. For one Exchange user that's in the N2K file, I can look at it now, and it matches up with others on the same server.
But 2-3 days from now, it will somehow be changed to“/o=First Organization/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=user” and that starts Outlook crashing again. The error happened for several months, and during this time the user was moved to a new
Exchange server. A new profile was created after the move, but the problem followed him.
I removed the offending user again today. The entry in n2K is getting changed to “/o=First Organization/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=user”. I found that is is a legacyExchange issue, but I don't know from where it's being changed -
on the user who's Outlook is crashing, on the user sending the email, or on the AD server. I am not an Exchange expert, so reading a few websites that point out what this is didn't really help me figure out how to remove the legacyExchange problem. The customer
is using hosted Exchange, so I can't get onto the server to dig into it. Is it in the Global Address Book, or a user's individual contact?
I ran OffCAT and it pointed out two addins that had Resiliancy set. They were both Outlook Addins, DPOfcX.ComposeRibbon and OutlookChangeNotifier.Connect. So I hope they aren't the issue.
