Transferring Over Accounts

I'm using Windows XP and I've recently created a new user account on my computer (not an itunes account, but a profile in windows), but I was wondering if it's possible to transfer all my itunes settings from one account to another. What I mean is, I know it's possible to move the music files from one account to the other, but what would happen when I try to sync my ipod? Would all the things on the ipod be wiped, and I have to reenter all the things that were previously on it, or would everything still be saved since it's still on the same computer, just different accounts? Thanks in advance, and sorry if it's not clear enough.

Alright, thanks everyone, but before I can mark this topic as resolved, I've got just one more question: Since I moved all my music files to another location, my itunes library cannot locate them in their original folders, so is there a faster way to sync up the files, or is my only option to locate each file one by one?

As  Winston Churchill wrote, however you might want to do a factory reset on the Apple TV.
This way all information pertaining to your daughter will be removed from the device. Specifically if see was sign into any of the streaming service, Netflix, Hulu, etc. her credentials will still be associated with this Apple TV, doing  a factory reset will remove all that and make it as if you purchased the device and just plugged it in.

  • Problem with transferring user account

    Hi:
We recently purchased a refurbished MacBook running 10.5.8 for my daughter to take to college. We set up only one account on the refurb, and installed a few applications like Microsoft Office (from disk) and Adobe Reader (from the web.) Everything including all Apple applications was working fine. We then tried to transfer data and settings (but not applications) using Migration Assistant from her old account on another MacBook, thinking this would transfer her iTunes library to the new computer. Before transferring the old account, we renamed it "account name (old)", since the new account on the new computer had the same name. Now, not only did this not transfer the iTunes library, we can't access any of the old account data because it thinks we don't have rights to it.
Is there any way to undo this? Can the old account simply be deleted from the new computer?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Try selecting a file or folder that you've transferred over. Press Command+I or right click on it and click on Get Info. At the bottom of the column that comes up, there should be Permission settings. If they're grayed out, click the lock at the bottom corner, and then type in the password. Edit the permissions there, entering a password if needed, and then close the window.

  • Clean install transferred over contact and bookmarks

    Here is my situation:
I installed Mountain Lion on top of my active system (Snow Lep, Lion).  I then encountered some issues with the new Messages ap and think I made things worst by trying to troubleshoot myself.  Then I decided, what the **** so I did a clean install of Mountain Lion.  My first question is, when I went into Disk Utility to wipe my HD, the process took a matter of seconds.  Its seems to me if I were to wipe clean my HD, this process would take hours, not seconds.  Secondly, after I installed a fresh copy of Mountain Lion, my contacts and Safari bookmarks transferred over to this fresh install.  I was expecting ALL my data to be wiped clean much like a spanking new system??  One possibility is ICloud which I signed up for prior to the clean install (could ICoud have imported the new bookmarks and contacts?)  Could I have messed up and installed a new copy of Mountain Lion on top of the old one like maybe from a partition.
I apoligize for these "basic" type questions but I am not too familiar with this OS and such.
Thanks for any help you may provide.

    Just find the way.
I go gues account in my computer so i export bookmarks and email them to myself.
Then i turn off safari syncing in my iphone and macbook air.
Then i import bookmarks that i eamil to myself previously from guest account so they as come from factory.Next i switch safari sync in icloud preferences in computer so it ask me to merge and i accept.
After delete the old bookmarks and leave only the ones i import so it looks as factory i wait a little bit to let icloud sync bookmarks and switch on safari sync in my iphone and yea it show only the ones i import..
So is a way to reset bookmarks in safari but you need swith off icloud sync in all your devices and the choose a master device and switch it on again.
It looks like it merger the data in that master and icloud so you need to delete the one you don't want and then switch on in other device to sync.

    Hi Stephanie,
You can definitely transfer your work as right now with a trial account you only have 2GB cloud storage space which would increase to 20GB with a license for the same.

  • Problems with File Transfers Over Firewire 800

Problems with File Transfers Over Firewire 800.
Over the past month, I have had problems when transfering files from my harddrive, over Firewire 800 to a portable drive. I usually transfer very large files (20gb or more) to the portable drives for moving files around. When I drag a file over to copy onto a drive, the transfer starts normally. If I drag more files to copy over, the computer screen goes darker and a large icon comes up that looks like a power button icon. It tells me to restart, so I have to do a hard shut down on my G5. Weird. I also get the dark screen of death sometimes when I am transfering those large files and open another application to do some work while it's copying. It's killing me. I am having to sit here and wait for the transfer to finish before I can do anything.
    Any thoughts...
    Dual 2.7 GHz PowerPC G5
    Mac OSX 10.4.3
    Dual 2.7 GHz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Have you run the Apple Hardware Test? Sounds like it could be a RAM problem.

  • We just received our new mac and took it to the store to have the old files from our last computer transferred over.  Now we can't find all our files.  There was more then one user on the old machine.  How can we find the files from the other users?

We need to find where the files for the other user on the computer are now located.  There were two other users on the old machine, which was taken into the store and ALL files were suppose to be transferred over to this computer. HELP!

It appears what happened is the installer though it was looking at a empty drive and just went ahead and installed.
I of course am assuming here you didn't use Disk Utility to format the drive first before installing, that would wipe out your files and programs for sure.
So what to do, what to do.
Well there is hope for you as long as the drive wasn't Filevaulted.
I'll explain. When a hard drive writes data for the first time to a drive, it starts at the very top and works it's way down.
When OS X was installed the first time, it was at the top of the drive, unless you upgraded then the upgraded OS X could have been written elsewhere.
Now when you just reinstalled OS X, the new OS went on the top of the drive, overwriting any data that was there previously, so what was there you have lost forever which is about 8GB or so. If it was the previous OS there, then your more in luck because only the old OS X was overwritten.
The remaining space on the drive still can have a copy of your files, provided it's not overwritten yet.
It's because when a hard drive deletes data or reformats, it doesn't remove the data off the drive or overwrites it immediately, it's just made so it's SPACE is available for new files to be written there.
So technically one can recover the deleted data off a non-encrypted/scrubbed hard drive with special software.
The way it does this is it reads the 1's and 0's of the files themselves, and through a lot of figuring out, can tell what that file is and what it belongs too.
So what you will have to do is this:
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
or if you don't have the skills, then take it to a local PC/Mac tech and they can do a direct image of the drive and then you can run Data Rescue on it to rebuild your files.

  • My ipod touch is broken and if i upgrade to ipad, will my music, photos and video files be transfered over to ipad?

My ipod touch won't turn on and I have tried the reset button n home button a few times, it still won't work. So, I'm thinking of upgrading to Ipad but I do not want to lose my files from Ipod Touch. My question is, will all the files I have synced up to date be transfered over to the Ipad? My music, movies and photo files. Thanks

Follow the instructions in this procedure to the letter. Here they are, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements.
It needs some charge to get anywhere at all - that is addressed in Step 3:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the iPod.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Select the iPod in iTunes and choose "restore from backup".
If this procedure doesn't work, you have done all you can and only Apple may be able to help. Have them look at it while you shop for your iPad

I dropped my iPhone 4 in water and cannot get it to dry out enough to turn back on.  I may have fried the battery.  I am using an old iPhone 3 temporarily but cannot get all of my current info to sync.  My calendar is up to date but none of my notes have transferred over and the contact list is from when I originally used the iPhone 3 last year.  How do I get my iPhone 4 info synced onto the iPhone 3?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can't restore an iPhone 3G from an iPhone 4 backup. Until you get a replacement you can access your iCloud data at iCloud.com on a computer.

As long as iMessage is enabled and the old phone is connected to a WiFi access point, it will continue to receive iMessage texts. It won't receive non-iMessage texts nor will it receive any calls.

Since iPLM failed to help try the following:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

got the new lion mountain version, but ever since then my 1 phone calendar appears to be transfered over to my 1 mac, how can 1 fix this, tks.

The calendar will also be transferred if you have iTunes set to sync the calendar or if you have both the iPhone and Mac set up to an Exchange or other shared service.
You'll need to explain the issue in more complete detail before anyone will be able to offer any more specific information and advice.
