Transferring Photos from MacBook Pro to iMac G5

I have been importing all my photos from my digital SLR to my Macbook Pro. But... now I am out of HD space. I want to transfer all my pics to my iMac G5 with much more HD space. What is the most effective way to do this? If I burn all the pictures to DVD, then import them to my desktop, will it import the original and edited versions of the photo?
Next... should I transfer the photos before or after I upgrade to iLife '08???
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks!

I assume you've been using iPhoto?
Simply copy the iPhoto Library Folder from your Pictures Folder to the same location on the iMac. Then, to prevent any file permission issues, Download BatchMod from
http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:

(Credit to Old Toad for this one).
And, yes, do it before upgrading. One less variable to deal with.

  • Transferring photos from MacBook Pro to a SD Card

Hello, New chap on the block and a complete ignoramus!
I have just moved from a windows 7 based laptop to Macbook Pro with OSxLion.
I am slowly learning, howevr I have two problems that I cannot seem to resolve.
1: I put my 2gb brand new SD Card in the slot and up it comes as a crd icon with the label No Name.
I try and transfer photos from my MacBook to the card so that I may take them to the shop and put the card in thier machine and print them off.
No Joy! I cannot drag or paste anything to the card!
I have been to disc utilities to format to what I do not know but anyway  the only thing I can do is verify, everything else is grayed out.
    Please can anyone advise?
2: I did manage to transfer  some of my photos to a USB stick, but when I went to the shop and put said USB into the machine the stick was not recognized!
So, there are my two questions, any advice would be gratefully received. Thank you for reading this.  Mike T

Is the Lock slider on your SD card in the locked position?
Is your flash drive formatted FAT32 or NTFS? It probably has to be to work in the store's reader.

  • Transferring audiobook from Macbook Pro to iMac

I bought an audiobook today on my Macbook Pro, forgetting that my iPhone is syncing with my iMac.  In the past I have been able to use home sharing to move songs and books from one to the other.  I can't do that today.  Anyone know why?  I am suspecting that audiobooks have been forgotten with the addition of iBooks.  They don't fall under the books or songs categories???  Is that it?

Review Best Practices and Setup new Mac. Ensure you did the migration, properly.

  • Having a hard time transferring photos from MacBook Pro once they have been cropped or colored enhanced to my iPhone or iPad. If they have not been manipulated then they transfer fine. How can I fix this?

I've been cropping and editing pics in my MacBook Pro but once I try to transfer them to the iPhone or iPad 2 only the photos that have not been manipulated transfer with no problems. How do I solve this problem?

    Option 1:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache.
Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.
    If that fails:
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Use the option to check and repair library permissions

  • Transferring Photos from MacBook Pro to my Tower

Need a little assistance with this. I would like to transfer the iPhoto library from my laptop to my tower. Is this a simple process? How would I go about doing this?
Thank you for your help in advance.

Will that replace the photo's I have on my tower?
The photo library can be put anywhere you can write to, but if you want to merge the libraries, you either need to use iPhoto Library Manager or export one of the libraries inside iPhoto and import it to the other, which won't transfer any metadata found in the library being moved.

  • How to sync photos from MacBook Pro to iPad 3?

How to sync photos from MacBook Pro to iPad 3 without it automatically deleting previously synced photos, or replacing them with new ones?

How can I create albums in the Photos app on the iPad
Photos that were taken with the iPad (or any photos in the camera roll) can be deleted right on the iPad. Tap the trash can icon in the top right corner if you are viewing the pho,to in full screen, or if you are viewing as thumbnails - tap the arrow in the upper right corner - tap the photos that you want to delete and then tap - Delete.
Photos that were synced from your computer using iTunes can only be deleted by de-selecting them from the folder from where they were synced -  and then re-syncing.

What is the best way to transfer iPhoto from MacBook Pro to iMac?

the only way is Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

How do you move iMovies from MacBook Pro to iMac?  I started some projects on my MacBook Pro but would rather have the larger working area provided on the iMac large 27 inch screen.

    Hi there rainyri!
The easiest way for you to do this is to transfer the information to an external drive as an intermediary, then transfer the information from your drive to the internal drive on your iMac. We have an article that explains the steps for doing this, and it can be found here:
iMovie '11: Copy or move a project to an external hard disk

  • How do i transfer my data from macbook pro to iMac?

i just bought a iMac.  How do i transfer my itunes library, photos, files via bluetooth from macbook pro to my iMac?  Much thanks for your help!

I believe that when you boot your computer for the first time and you are following the onscreen instructions you are prompted whether you want to transfer data from an old mac or PC. If you click 'transfer from an old mac' and follow the onscreen instructions, this may work.
If you have already skipped this step you could use iCloud to transfer data. If you make sure that everything you want to transfer is synced in iCloud, this may also work.

Are your photos housed in the iPhoto app on the Mac? If so, then hook up your device, click on the Photos tab in the Device Profile Screens to the right, select what photos you want sync'd, and then sync your device to iTunes.

  • Transferring iPhoto book from MacBook Pro to iMac

    Hi everyone
I am the proud owner of a new iMac. I am trying to transfer an album I started on my husband's MacBook Pro, but all I can do is to export the photos...I already imporated all my events from the MacBook to the iMac. Now, I was to save the work that i have done on the album itself. Is the transfer feasible? Tx

By album do you mean book?  If so then you can't transfer a book from one library to another because the book is virtual, existing only in the database files of the library.
What you can do is duplicate the library with the book and in the copy delete all photos excecpt for those in the book. Then copy the book to the other Mac and use it to complete the book.  You can copy additional photos/albums from the large library to the book library with the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager.
This tutorial describes how to cull the library down to just the book: #9 - Archiving an iPhoto 7(08)/8(09)/9(11) Book for Editing and/or Ordering at a Later Date

  • Transferring from MacBook Pro to iMac

I'm thinking about purchasing an iMac, currently I have a MacBook Pro. I don't want to get rid of my MacBook Pro, but I want to transfer everything over to the iMac since it has way more storage space and use that primarily at home and use my MacBook Pro for work related things. Is it pretty easy to transfer everything over- will it also transfer programs? For instance, I have word, excel, and powerpoint on my MacBook Pro and want those on my iMac but I got those from an old roommate so no longer have access to the discs.

You can back up to a hard drive with time machine. This will restore your everything and remmber the way everything was. When finished backing up, plug in to the iMac, go on time machine, and click enter time machine. It should be straightforward from there on.
