Transferring photos from PC to Macbook Pro

What is the best way to transfer photos from Windows PC to iphoto? I currently have the pictures on my macbook via USB transfer and they are in folders and I can view them in Preview. Is it safe to drag them to iphoto?

Is it safe to drag them to iphoto?
Yes. Drag a couple of folder into iPhoto and test them out with editing, slideshows, etc. When you're satisfied that they've been imported OK import the remaining folder and test them. Finally you can delete the original files that you brought over from the PC.

  • Trapped at transferring data from my old macbook pro to iMac

I got a new iMac yesterday and was trying to transfer data from my old macbook pro to iMac through time machine...
    However, I encountered HUGE problems....
Background info: I set up a new account before I transffered my data.
    Here is what I did:
I used migration assistance to transfer data. I chose to transfer everything listed on migration assistance from time machine to my new iMac.
After this process was completed, I switched to the transferred account from my newly-set account. Then I realized all the old stuf, (including the software problems + old apps such as microsoft 2008, had been transferred to my new iMac. what I really wanted were all the documents, pictures and music! Therefore I decided to delete this account....
    Question 1:
    1) I deleted the transferred account, then there was a windown came up asking me if i wanted to keep the home folder, I chose no. then mac started cleaning up and BACKING UP. Since I already had a copy of everything, I stopped the backup process....then this transferred account was deleted. However, everything was still on my mac that I don't have access to (at least I don't know how...) when I checked my mac stroage!
Could anyone tell me how to delete all the files I transferred from time machine to my new iMac?
    Question 2:
    2) how can i only transfer documents+pictures+music from my old macbook pro to new iMac through time machine without creating a new account? I want all the files to be directly transferred to my newly-set account...
    LSS:
    Question 1
I tried to transfer everthing from my old macbook pro to new iMac but i realized there were something I didn't want that had been transferred as well. Therefore I deleted this transferred account. However, all the files are still in my mac even if I have deleted that account. Could anyone tell me how I can access to those content and delete them?
    Question 2
I just want the documents, music and pictures (from iPhone library) to be directly transferred to the newly-set account on my iMac through time machine (instead to transferred the whole old account to my imac) How can I do it??
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE OF GOING THROUGH THIS MESSAGE. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IF YOU COULD GIVE ME A HAND.
btw, you can totally see that i'm not a computer person at all....:( thanks for your help!!

I suggest starting over. Boot into Recovery mode, wipe the HD, reinstall the OS, and, on first boot, use the steps in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide to do the migration.'

  • How do I delete an album and the photos from iphoto on macbook pro

I have set up several photo albums on my macbook pro while expereimenting with macro.  The experiments are completed and I want to delete several entire albuns, including the name and all the photos within the album.  How do I that?  Thanks in advance.

Deleting Photos from an iPhoto Library
1 - from an Event or the Photos mode: select the photo(s) and use the Delete key to move the photos to the trash bin. Then empty the iPhoto Trash bin as follows:
2 - from an album, smart album, book, slideshow, card, etc.: select the photo(s) and use the key combination of Command+Option+Delete to move the photos to the trash bin.  Then empty the trash bin as above.
NOTE: deleting a photo from an album, slideshow, book, etc., with only the Delete key only deletes that photo from that item. Deleting a photo from an Event deletes ALL occurences of that photo in the library.

  • I have a problem with transfering photos from iPad to MacBook Air, how do I go about doing that?

Photos from iPad to MacBook Air, I am currently trying to use my USB cord to transfer photos, but how?

You can only import photos in the camera roll, not synced photos. So I assume that you want to transfer the photos that you shot with the iPad camera. You can use iPhoto or Image Capture on the MBA.
Just connect the iPad to the Mac with the cable and launch either of those two apps. Your iPad should appear under the devices heading in the left sidebar of the app. Click on the iPad name just like you do when you sync with iTunes and the camera roll photos should appear in the window on the right.

  • Transferring harddrive from imac to macbook pro (tiger to leopard?)

hey everyone, i'm waitin on leopard before i buy a macbook pro 15 inch, and hopefully someone can tell me if i can transfer my entire data (music, movies mainly) to the macbookpro via some other way BESIDES making all those bloody data discs, backup discs, networks. i.e. i've seen flickr photos of people transferring using firewire? my 2nd question is if i CAN transfer my music, movies via firewire from my imac running tiger to a macbook pro (with leopard eventually) will i run into any problems? thanks for any input!

Nobody knows if Leopard will be compatible with your present software. Before upgrading to Leopard, I would though follow my FAQ* as far as upgrading:
    http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
Assuming you are talking going from an Intel iMac to a MacBook Pro on Tiger the Migration Assistant is all you need if there is enough space on the MacBook Pro. Otherwise if you have a PowerPC iMac, or don't have enough space on the MacBook Pro, see this user tip:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=435350&tstart=0
Apple has left much of Leopard as a mystery, and all anyone knows is on http://www.apple.com/macosx/
Anything else is pure speculation, which we can't say on this board.

  • How do i transfer photos from ipad to MacBook Pro about 100

After update to yosemite i have about 150 photos that are on my ipad and not on MacBook Pro.  Is there a way to sync the photos from ipad to computer

I did sync thro iTunes so will have to import them where i can find them...yuck
The synced photos should be in an album in the "Albums" tab of your iPod.
As long as you did not transfer  the synced photos to your computer do on no account activate "iCloud Photo Library Beta" on your iPad. That will wipe all synced photos from the iPad.
You can't reimport pictures synced from your computer to your device back to your computer. You can only import pictures in the Camera Roll or Saved Photos from your device to your computer. If you need to retrieve synced photos from your device:
Email them from the device to yourself.
Copy them from the emails to your computer.

  • How do I move Photos from PC to Macbook Pro

    Hello
Just purchased LR 2 and a new Macbook Pro.  After two weeks, glad I did it, but its about to give me Brain overload.  I've read 4-5 books and watched a dozen videos.
I just installed 2 Ext HDs and want to put my catalog, library on one Ext. HD and Backup on the next.  One of the reasons I havn't used LR 2 yet and reading all these books is, I want to set it right the first time, hoping it will give me few problems in the future.
I've searched these forums, but cannot find a question with my problem.  I'm now going from Lightroom on PC to lightroom on a Mac, or PSE to LR 2.
I'm going from a PC that has all my photos in the My Pictures folder.  Most are Jpegs, a few canon raw. (about 2,000 )
    My questions are
    1.  When I read to format the Ext HD's to the Macbook, I did and this cleared them out.  No folders or files.  Will LR 2 auto put a folder in each HD called lightroom photos or will I have to do that manually.  If I have to do it, since I'm new to Mac, how do I do that?
    2.  I have a third 500 GB Ext HD that I have my music on and I have about 100 gigs blank.  I can move my photos over to this drive on the PC and import them into the mac using LR 2?  Since I havn't started LR 2 yet, I read that I can hold down the "alt" key and the Mac, start LR 2, and it will ask me "where I want to put my catalog.  After I tell it the Ext HD, will it do everything automatic, or will I have to do more setup.
    Thanks in advance.
I hope I can get everything set up this week so that I can get back to taking pictures.

  • Transfer photos from iPad to Macbook Pro??

    Hi All,
My daughter has an iPad which I want to download some of the images off to my MBP.
    - I have tried turning on Airdrop and can't see the iPad.
    - I have tried using 'Image Capture' which sees the iPad but none of the images on it.
    (See images attached).
What is the easiest way to transfer photos from an iPad to MBP assuming I don't want to Sync the iPad to the MBP? (Just transfer them).
    Macbook Pro 15" - 10.9.5 (Mavericks).
    iPad - iPad Air 5th gen 64GB
    Thanks in Advance.
    Matt.

Oh, and I also tried iPhoto via USB which doesn't work either.
Just a thought, but based on the fact that Image Capture and iPhoto did not see any of the images, that leads me to beleive that the images that you are trying to transfer are not in the camera roll on her iPad. You can only import images to iPhoto and Image Capture if the images are in the camera roll album on her iPad. If the images are in Photo Stream, she can save them to the camer roll and then you can import them.mAynced photos cannot be imported using this method.
If the images were synced to her iPad from another computer, you can use a WiFi transfer app to move the images from her iPad to your Mac. I use this one.

DropBox would be another way to transfer photos from her iPad to your Mac.

  • Wireless transfer of photos from camera to Macbook Pro (help)

Im sorry if this might not be the correct place to ask about it but Im going to give it a try.
I know this can be done because professionals are doing it across the globe already.
I just purchased a Canon 50D along with a WFT-E3A wireless transmitter. I shoot professional Lacrosse in Chicago and for the first time will be trying out the possibility of sending photos straight from my camera to my new Macbook Pro. If this works then my next purchase is going to be the WFT-E2 and a Canon 1D MK III to complete the process.
The main idea is that I will be doing shooting all over the arena and just sending them back to my laptop and having my assistant taking care of post processing of them and then uploading to a website.
But now comes the fun part.
Because this is one step above me setting up a normal wireless network like I have at home for me to get onto the internet. I don't really know where to start on setting up a specific network and configuring it to just have the camera and computer "talk" to each other.
My thoughts are that I would like to have one specific network setup for my laptop at the games when shooting. And then just bring it back home and switch it back over to the normal network I have set up to get my internet wirelessly.
I have been talking with several Genius people here in Madison and was told there are two types of networks to set up, Ad Hoc and Infrastructure.
I have been told to set it up an infrastructure network because this is going to give me widest range for me to be further away from my computer.
The question that is puzzling most of the Genius people and myself is this. Should I have one or several base stations placed somewhere in the arena between me and the computer helping me out so I don't lose signal between the two devices?
If that is the case how would I set up the base station in order to relay or transmit the signal from my laptop to my camera?
After I get this portion all set up I think it isn't going to be an issue of getting the camera to talk with my laptop. But that is another issue that I will need to pose to other photographers or maybe a canon rep directly.
    Ok Im all ears now!
    Thanks,
    Ross

There is more than one date that can be associated with an image, and I think you're running into different programs displaying different dates. This is not a comprehensive list but:
Capture date: Date and time the photo was recorded by the camera clock, stored in EXIF camera data.
Created date: Date and time the photo was first saved to disk by photo software on a computer
Modified date: Date and time the edited photo was last saved to disk by photo software on a computer
Archived date: I'm not really sure but I see this in detailed photo information too.
Furthermore, these dates can be stored in various additional date fields in other IPTC metadata sections, and various software might not write or read them in the same ways as other software.
But what I think is going on in your case is that the iPhoto Info panel is displaying the Capture Date from the camera recorded EXIF data, but what you see in the Finder are the Created and Modified dates.
If I'm right, then LexSchellings' column suggestion may not work because all you would get is the File Created date, not the camera recorded Capture Date. I do not know of a way to display camera EXIF capture date in the Finder. Generally, organizing photos using that data is done using a photo management app like iPhoto, Picasa, Apple Aperture, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Bridge, Media Pro, etc., not on the desktop.
If you were able to view the Capture Date in Windows Explorer, then that's an advantage that Windows Explorer (the desktop) had over the Finder. I've seen other cases where the Finder couldn't do something Windows Explorer could, so I wouldn't be surprised.
As far as the duplicates, I don't really know but I did a search at macupdate.com and you might want to check some of these utilities that can help resolve duplicates.
    MacUpdate search on "duplicate photo"
macupdate.com is a great place to look for Mac software if you didn't find it in the Mac App Store.

  • Transferring music from iPhone to MacBook Pro

I  just bought a new macbook pro and went to transfer my music from my iPhone to the new iTunes, and only half transferred. The other half are in the iTunes music section but are not highlighted. Help?

The iphone is not a backup device.
The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases:  File>Transfer Purchases.
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • Move Photos from IMac to  Macbook Pro

    Hello,
I have a late 2009 iMac, 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB memory, OSX 10.10.01, 258 GB of free memory.
I have 90 GB of photos on this Mac and I would like to transfer them to a new Macbook Pro. The Processor is 2.5 GHS Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, OS X 10.10.01, 456 GB free memory. Is this a reasonable idea? I don't see much on Migration assistant anymore. I am looking for a solution. Thank you in advance for any response. I read a few of the questions from others last night and just want to add, you people are Saints.

    468 GB of free memory.
Just so we're all using the correct terms:  you mean 468 GB of free space on your hard drive, right.  That's not considered memory.
How are the pictures stored on your old Mac?  Are they in an iPhoto Library? If so connect the two Macs via an LAN, Target Disk Mode or other means and drag the iPhoto Library package from the old Mac to the Pictures folder on the new Mac.

  • Airdrop photos from iPhone6 to Macbook Pro Yosemite

So, I take some pics on my iPhone 6 running latest iOs.  I then attempt to airdrop them to my Macbook Pro running Yosemite.  Easy right ?
    NOPE...
Bluetooth turned on on both devices, share with everyone selected on on my phone.
Open Photos on my iPhone6 and select the photos I want to send.
The airdrop blue icon appears below the photos.  Great...
Open a folder on my Macbook Pro, select AIRDROP from the Go menu.
My iPhone (my picture) appears in the middle of the open window.
    Then what ?
There is no way I can find to send the photos...
Have tried tapping clicking control clicking option clicking, command clicking function clicking...
Nothing give me the ability to actually transfer the photos from phone to Mac.
Isn't that the purpose of Airdrop ?
Am I missing something ?  Thanks to anyone who can solve this.

    Hello there,
From your post I understand that you are trying to transfer photos from your iPhone 6 to your Mac using AirDrop.  First, you need to ensure your Mac fits the requirement of being a 2012 or later model.  If it is, then to accomplish this both devices need to have both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on.  After that, you should see your Mac appear in the AirDrop section of your iPhone when trying to share your photos.  To learn more, please see the article linked to below.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

  • How to transfer photos from itouch to macbook pro

    Hello,
long story short, my iphoto library got deleted before the transfer was complete to aperture.......i now have 2000 corrupted photos. i only have one back up. ther are all still on my itouch (4th gen with 4.3.5). i need a way to transfer them to my macbook pro (mid 2009 2.53 ghz running lion 10.7.1) i have tried just imported via iphoto and aperture but all it does is transfer the files that my ipod has saved on it, the camera roll i think its called. what would be the best way to get all of them?

The backup of the ipod only contains the photos from the camera roll. You might be able to transfer the other photos using 3rd party software like Touchcopy for example.

What is the best way to transfer photos from my Imac to Macbook Pro using firewire?

Put one of the computers in Target Disk mode by holding down the T key while your computer is starting. By doing this, the hard drive of the computer you put in Target Disk will appear as an external drive in the other computer, so just open a Finder window and choose the other computer's hard drive in the sidebar.
Then, just go to the folder where your pictures are and copy them to your computer or to the Mac in Target Disk mode, depending on the computer you put in Target Disk
