Transferring Photos from Snapfish to IPHOTO Library?

Has anyone out there imported saved photos from Snapfish or other similar sites? I'd like to do that because Snapfish holds you hostage if you don't make purchases. I have, but not recently and I got a threatening email re: loss of all my stored photo albums. THANKS!!!

Download the photos from Snapfish with your web browser. Then import them to iPhoto.

LarryHN is correct. The only way this message occurs is if the iPhoto Library database is upgraded to a newer version.
You could try holding SHIFT-OPT-COMMAND when launching iPhoto from the dock and checking only "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" and hope it restores the previous database prior to the upgrade.
If that doesn't work, you can install iPhoto '11 on your iPhoto '09 computer. If I understood the iPhoto '11 Mac App License agreeement correctly, you can install it on any personal, non-commerical computer you own running 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7.

  • Can I import photos from an old iPhoto library?

Can I import photos from an old iPhoto library on an external hard drive to my current iPhoto library?  The icon on the hard drive appears greyed out when I try via Import.

Open the older library and export the Photos from it to the Finder (File -> Export) and switch to the new Library and import those.
Or, use  iPhoto Library Manager to move the photos, plus all the versions and associated metadata to the new Library.

  • How to use photos from a *shared iphoto library* in iWeb's Photos page

I have a large library of pictures in iPhoto. I am sharing it with my wife's Mac on our LAN. She would like to use many of these photos on my Mac in an iWeb page. We're both using 10.4.10 with G5s.
When we try to drag them over from my shared iPhoto library, we get the following error:
"Some items can't be used because you don't have enough access privileges or because they contain no content or they are corrupted.
    unable to add object
    unable to add object"
Sometimes it imports only the name of the picture to the iWeb page.
Is there a way around this? I tried messing with the Get Info "Permissions" section of my iPhoto folder. But nothing seemed to change.

    iPhoto can not merge libraries
And you must NEVER Import an iPhoto library - it does not work and creates a massive mess
To merge libraries you must either use Aperture (being phased out this year) or the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -
Or continue to have two libraries and switch between them

  • How can I retrieve old Photo Stream photos from a lost iPhoto Library?

My laptop was stolen and with it an external drive that had my iPhoto library.  I had an old backup and when I opened the backup and turned on Photo Stream, I saw all my old photos appear again!  After a short while, it was removing old photos from the photostream and replacing them with newer ones.  I'm now missing months of Photo Stream photos that I really want back.  I tried creating a new library and enabling Photo Stream to try to capture those missing images, but I am not able to see anything older than Oct.  I could really use some help if somebody knows a way to get those memories back...
    Thanks
    -Rob

    I had an old backup
What kind of backup? Do you have a Time Machine Backup of your complete system from the time before the laptop was stolen?
To restore the Photo Stream images from that time you need to restore the folder
    your home folder /Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/Assets
This folder contains the PhotoStream pictures that were part of the PhotoStream at that time.
To restore this folder from TimeMachine, open a Finder window showing this folder, make it the active window, and then enter TimeMachine. Go back in time in the TimeTunnel, till you see the correct date. Don't restore to the library but to a folder on the Desktop.

  • Extracting photos from backup of iPhoto Library without iPhoto

I recently had to do a clean install of Mac OS X 10.7.5 because I had some funky file structures in my hard drive that were rendering my 8 year old Macbook unusable. I have a full Time Machine backup on an external hard drive and had to drag and drop what I wanted from the backup over to the cleaned hard drive as opposed to doing an automated restore (because I didn't want to restore the funky file structures that had screwed up my mac in the first place). So now I have everything I want back on the cleaned Mac except iPhoto won't open after being copied over from the backup. Fine - I didn't really care for iPhoto anyway so I don't want to buy it. Now I am trying to extract the photos from my backed up iPhoto library to get them on the Mac in plain old folders. I right click the library, select show package contents, select "originals" and then try to copy that folder to my cleaned hard drive - I get an error that I do not have sufficient permissions to do that. Same thing with any folder level.
I have tried iPhoto Library Manager - but that needs a working iPhoto application...
How can I get these photos out of this back up library without having to copy each one individually???? It's driving me nuts. grr.

Here's how to restore an iPhoto Library from Time Machine:

  • Transferring Photos from PC to iPhoto on MacBook

I am trying to transfer all of my photos from my old PC to my new Macbook using a USB drive. Can someone outline the easiest way to do this, including the destination folder on the MacBook? I'm new to Macs hence the simple nature of the question.
    Thanks!

just drag the pictures on you USB drive and then drop them on the iPhoto icon in the dock !
this will start iPhoto and will copy every pictures in the iPhoto Library !
let it manage the library otherwise you may get unexpected errors !
it's pretty hassle free and you will have backups on you USB drive in case the HDD crashed...you never know !

  • How do I consolidate photos from Finder into iPhoto Library?

I would like to tidy up my photos on my iMac to save space and ensure that all is secure.
Iam using iPhoto 08 on my iMac v10.8.5. My preference is to consolidate all my photos into my iphoto library so that I can manage my collection through iPhoto. I seem to have the same photos showing in Finder -> pictures as I do when I open iphoto. In addition photo files are also stored under My Pictures folder too. I'm guessing they are managed by iphoto but I don't know why they are saving in Finder as well as the iphoto library. I generally upload photos from either an iPhone or iPad.
I have the iphoto preferences set to 'copy items to the iPhoto library' so I'm not sure why they also appear in replicated album structures in Finder and as single images in Finder. Do I just import them again and delete from Finder? Any suggestions? (same for my .MOV files too).
I've taken a screen shot but don't know how to add to this post.

Thanks Larry. I tested that for one photo by deleting (placing in trash) one image and then reopening iphoto to make sure the photo was still there and it was.
However, I was going to select all the images to delete them noticed that the first 4 are not showing in iPhoto (I search by image number as well as sort by image title to double check). These are photos of my daughter at school so would not want to accidentally delete them.
Is there a way to compare what is in iphoto and what is in Finder? Any suggestions on how to ensure I don't miss any? I'm guessing I just import them all and then run the duplicate cleaner file (not perfect but I just deleted 1.5 GB of photos that were duplicated i iphoto). My operating system is old (2008) and needs all the grunt it can get.
Not sure if this may be related but iPhoto seems to randomly duplicate my photos and movies within iPhoto and I have no idea why this is happening. The photo and its title is repeated twice but the .jpg is dropped off the file title. Does the same for movies and drops the .MOV from the title when duplicating.
    Regards, Suzanna
PS I have just tried to import those 4 photos and they are in iPhoto but the photo name is date and time instead of image number as in Finder. That will make it really hard to find?

  • Transfering photos from PSE to iPhoto

I just decided to switch from PC to Mac and am having difficulties moving my photo library. I had been using Photoshop Elements 6 in Windows but wanted to start using iPhoto 08.
I copied all the images onto an external harddrive and then tried import them into iPhoto. I noticed that the dates on hundreds of images are now totally off. For example, one shot from 12/1/04 imported into iPhoto as 1/1/1980. Both Bridge and Elements seem to think the date is 2004.
Any ideas on what's going on? I really don't want to have to manually go in as my library is 5500+ images. Thanks for your help!
*additional info* Photoshop CS3 thinks that the date is 04 as well, but Preview says 1980.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Here's some info for using Photoshop Elements with iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I lost photos from middle of iphoto library, no where to be found

So one day my wife is looking at the ipad and asks where some of her pregnancy photos are....I look and they are not there..!
the photos taken before the pregnancy are there.....The photos of the birth are there.....but not a select few in between.
I check everywhere.....EVERYWHERE, not on my time machine backup....which mysteriously seems to only go back 8 months....
not in my regular picture folder where i imported them from.
I use all the recovery options from permission recovery to a full rebuild of library.
I have no idea what happened to these photos. I was not doing anything, and have not done any iphoto clean up, I certainly did not delete them.
my ipads are synched to my MBP, I do not use any cloud services.
I am ready to accept that they are just simply gone, but want to check to see if there are any others out there who have had the same problem...NOT missing libraries, NOT corrupt librarys or bad upgrades.....just mysteriously missing albums.....
    OSX 10.7.5
    iphoto version (9.4.3) (720.91)

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #1 to repair permissions and Option #4 to repair the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library âž™ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How to import photos from an old iPhoto library

I have started using a new Mac (MacBook Pro Retina with OS10.10.1).
I saved my earlier iPhoto Library on my previous Mac to an external Drive. Now, if I try to open the old iPhoto Library file from my new Mac then iPhoto offers me to 'Switch Libraries' and to access pictures from the old library.
But this is not what I need. I would like to merge the old into the new (on my current Mac) and use a single iPhoto library for all pictures. In another word I would like to import content from the old library to the new and then use it as a single iPhoto library. When I try the 'iPhoto Library' files are inactive in the Finder....
Please advise steps to do do it.

    iPhoto can not merge libraries

  • How do I transfer my photos from my mac/iphoto library to my iPhone6?

I am a long-time Mac user and have thousands of photos in iPhoto on my mac.  Most of these were NOT taken with my phone but rather with a digital camera and uploaded to the computer.  I just got the iphone6 and cannot figure out how to either: (a) transfer photos from the computer to my phone; or (b) share them in such a way that I can access them from my phone.  Nothing complicated here:  I want to be able to look at my phone and see the pictures.  Thanks!

I believe that Apple really thinks that they know the best way to do things and it is our job to just do it that way no matter how stupid or arcane it is.
I put the following in iPhoto Feedback already.
Why was Drag and Drop not there already.  This is not rocket science.  You connect two devices and find the file or photo and drag and drop it to the other device.  Not some clunky, have to spend an hour on the internet, process that needs either iPhoto or iTunes (who knows which).  I don't want to spend another hour learning how to use iCloud, I just want drag and drop between connected devices.  I read that iPhoto is getting a new name Photos (you will probably call that a feature).
WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO HARD.
Computers have had Drag and Drop since my first Amiga.
Come on guys....this is how to do it.  Imagine that you are an end user and you bought a Mac because it was going to be easier, then with your brilliant programing skills make it happen.
I know, for some reason, it is really important that you know what I am using.  so...
Mac Book Pro.  OS X Yosemite latest version.  and iPad mini latest IOS.
I still, believe it or not, like my Mac better than any PC I ever had.  I did, however, did just buy a Chromebox for $150 rather than a MacMini for $500.

  • Installed new osx lion can't copy my photos from the old iPhoto library to the new one..

hey guys hope u can held me ..
when i open the new iphoto libary it says i need to istall an older version of iphoto libary ...

1 - you never "copy" an iPhoto library to any other iPhoto library - exactly what did you do
2 - installiung Lion typically has no effect on iPhoto - you are only upgrading the OS - not the iLife software
Exactly what is the error message - I am not aware of iPhoto ever saying tha tyou need to inatall an older version of anything and it is impossible to ever "install" an iPhoto library - you install the iPhoto application - it creates or converts the iPhoto library
We need to know what version of iPhoto you have and exactly what is said when you launch iPhoto

  • Can't finish importing photos from iPhone to iPhoto

I have about 2,000 pictures in my iPhone 4.
When I try to import my photos from iPhone to iPhoto Library, it stops importing after about 250 photos. Keeps saying 1,489 remaining(something like that) photos and the picture image on your iPhoto stops or freeze there. (Normally you can see what's importing into your iPhoto)
