Transferring Photos in iPhoto!

Hello there,
I have questions about transfering my photos in Iphoto version 09 (in my old Mac OSX 10.5.8)  to my new Mac OSX 10.9.1, is it compatible to do it?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The latest iPhoto '09 version (iPhoto 8.1.2) works without any issue with OS X Mavericks, so you can transfer your photos and your iPhoto version to OS X Mavericks

Some how I have trouble trying to drag my photos to my drive and it is not letting me to do so. Pls. help me in my sistuation or derect me to a website that will answer my questions. I am getting really upset and frustrated; so I'm out of ideas.

even when the hard drive is compatable with my MacBook Air.
What is the file system on that drive? Is it formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled)?
And what is your iPhoto version? iPhoto 9.5.1?
Some how I have trouble trying to drag my photos to my drive and it is not letting me to do so
What exactly happens when you try to drag photos to your drive? Are you dragging from iPhoto's window to the drive?
Can you export your photos, when you select the photos on iPhoto and use the command "File > Export"?

  • Transferring photos from iPhoto to iPod

I have photos in iPhoto on my MacBook that i would like to transfer to my iPod Touch (3rd generation). Is there any way of doing this and if so, how?

Attach your iPod to the Computer, open iTunes, click on your iPod and on the right side you could configure which albums, photos etc should be transferred to the iPod.

  • Transferring photos in iphoto from a G4 to a MacBook Pro

I transferred thousands of photos in iphoto on my old G4 to a new July 2011 Macbook Pro. They all transferred but when I try to enlarge them I get an X, I can only view the photos in the smaller size. Is this fixable, any ideas?

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Transfering photos to iPhoto from PC

I switched over to a mac a year ago, and since then I've been working on transfering over all of my pictures from my PC. I had them carefully organized on my PC with the date and name for each folder of photos. I transferred the pictures, folder by folder directly into iPhoto and changed the event name to not include the date since the date the picture was taken is automatically picked up my iPhoto. If any dates were incorrect I also manually changed the date.
A month ago I noticed that I was missing a significant number of events in iPhoto. Upon futher investigation I realized that all of my pictures prior to 2007 and also those pictures from 2008 were missing! I wasn't nervous that I completely lost them because they are still on my PC and I also have a time capsule that backs up my mac everyday. The issue is that I think I lost all of my organization. I called up Apple Support and they walked me through the steps to recover my iPhoto library and it seems to have restored all of the missing event, only the event names and dates are all messed up. This is terribly frustrating and I'm wondering why these events disappeared in the first place! I'm now wondering if I transferred the pictures into iPhoto incorrectly the first time. Are you supposed to transfer folders of pictures into the home folder under pictures and then import them into the iPhoto library? I had directly imported my photos into iPhoto so there are no individual pictures showing in my pictures folder. I'm still a novice when it comes to Macs so any help is appreciated!

If you're running a Managed library, then it's the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing
If you're running a Referenced Library, then you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced and iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing.
Sounds like you have a damaged Database file:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Transferring photos in Iphoto from one iMac(old) to new Imac?

please does anyone know how to transfer photos in iPhoto from an old iMac to a new iMac?
    Any help would be appreciated

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
If you want to do it by hand just drag & drop the iPhoto library located in the Pictures folder of your Home folder on the old iMac to the same location on the new iMac.

  • Problem transferring photos from Iphoto to my iPad 2

Hi, I tried to synchronize my photos from iPhoto in my iMac to my iPad 2 using iTunes and got the following alert message: " IPad from Rene could not be synchronized. Unable to find required file."
Can somebody give me some advise to solve this issue?
I restored it to factory and continue having the same message.
    Best Regards
    Rene

The problem is probably on your iMac not your iPad.
Here are some instructions on how to fix:
    1) Close iphoto and itunes
    2) Find the iphoto library in finder, most probably located in your users folder under pictures.
    3) Control click on iphoto library (might be named diferently) and choose show package contents
    4) Delete the folder caches and ipod photo cache.
    5) Restart iphoto
    6) Restart itunes
if itunes asks that the library is linked with another ipod, say yes to the warning to re sync with your ipod/iphone

  • Transferring photos from iphoto to Lightroom 5

I am trying to transfer photo files from iphoto to lightroom 5. I don't want to transfer all of the photos, only certain ones. I did see the posts about transferring the Photoshop Elements and then to Lightroom 5. Also, I'm way over the reasonable limit of files in iphoto - 23,000 images. Any suggestions? Is it reasonable to transfer that many files to Elements and then Lightroom? Or should I try to pare it down first?

If you want to transfer photos with your adjustments it is best to export versions from iPhoto to the desktop. Better still create folders in Finder and put them in a permanent location.
Then import into Lightroom from that location using "Add" in the LR import dialog.

  • I transferred photos from iphoto to a Seagate external hard drive and now I cant access the photos

When I plug in the hard drive to my macbook, I can see the iPhoto folder but it tells me that it is not accessible since Time Machine is running.
All I want to do is pull a few pictures off of the hard drive.  So frustrating!  Any help is greatly appreciated!

I tried turning ogg Time Machine but I am still unable to access any photos.  The actual message that I receive when I try opening iPhoto on the hard drive is 'You can't open the application iPhoto because it is in a Time Machine backup.'  Am I trying to open the wrong thing?  I have looked for photo files but didnt find any.  Thanks for your help!

  • Transferring photos from iPhoto 2 to iPhoto '08

I have an old iBook G4 that I use when traveling running iPhoto2. I used this to import photos (about 3000) on a recent vacation. At home I have a newer Intel based mac running iPhoto '08. When I use the import to library option on iPhoto '08 and import the images from the iPhoto2 library, some of the images end up duplicated. Specifically those photos rotated into portrait orientation (on the iPhoto2 library) are the ones that are duplicated and now show up in two separate "folders" on iPhoto '08. This seems to occur because of the way iPhoto2 stores files - in nested folders each by year/month/day - and then with a separate folder labeled "originals". For these photos that were rotated in iPhoto2, using Preview to open the images, there is a jpg image that opens into a landscape orientation (although the icon for this jpg is in portrait orientation). There is another jpg image with the same number located within the "originals" sub-folder, which is rotated into the correct portrait orientation (although the icon for the jpg is still in landscape orientation). The file size for the former jpg might be 4 MB whereas the latter jpg (i.e., the one in the "originals" sub-folder) has a file size of 5 MB.
My questions are why are the file sizes on the duplicate jpg's so different? I would have thought that a simple rotation would not have altered the file size so drastically, so was there some loss of image quality/data in the smaller file that occurred as a result of rotating with iPhoto2? Which version should I keep in the iPhoto '08 library - given that I don't want to lose any image quality, presumably the larger file? Thanks in advance for your time reading this admittedly lengthy email.
    Thanks
    Rob

So really my question boils down to why is there such a large change in the file jpg sizes that results from a rotation (was anything else lost).
I do not follow your question
so I should be able to go ahead and delete the unwanted jpg's from the iPhoto '08 library.
Yes - only use iPhoto to delete photos - never go directly into the iPhoto library and use the finder to make any changes
And, following on from your point 2, what do you mean by "export the photos form one version of iPhoto and import the photos into the other version"?
Drag them from the iPhoto window to a desktop folder I assume - or use the export command if there is one in iPhoto 2 (it is under the file menu in later versions - it may be under the share menu in iPhoto 2 or may not exist - I do not remember)

  • TS1501 Trouble with transfering photos to iPhoto from iPhone 4

For OS X 10.7, if your iPhone isn't showing up in the Image Capture devices, how do you make it show up? Or what's another way to transfer your photos to your computer via your iPhone 4?

Don't know why your phone isn't recognized in image capture or iPhoto but as an alternative you could use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them.

  • TS3989 transferring photos from iPhoto album to photo stream

I am using Mac OS lion version 10.7.5 and iphoto version '11 9.4.3 (720.91).  I have an existing album of photos that I would like to transfer to photostream so that I can share those photos with friends and family.  I "select all" for the photos in the album and then click on share with photostream, but none of the photos are appearing in photostream.  Any tips on how I can make this process happen and share these photos?

For Shared Photo Streams you need to be running 120.8.2 or later.  With 10.7.5 all you can use is Photo Streams between your own Mac devices, i.e. Macs and mobile devices.

  • Transferring photos into iPhoto

I recently bought my Macbook Pro and copied all my photos into a folder on my the laptop. I then put them into iPhoto. Does this mean I can now delete all the photos in my folder because when I transfer new photos from my camera to iPhoto, it doesn't appear to be saved anywhere except for iPhoto....

That's correct. You can confirm that by looking in YourHomeFolder/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals, the pics are sorted by year. Or, just pick a file name and search it in spotlight, and it should show up in both locations.
