Transferring pics from camera

I have plugged in my camera and all the new photos have loaded. In iPhoto there was a button to import all or import new photos and I see those buttons at the top of the screen in Photo, but they are greyed out. How do I import my photos from my camera?? Thank yoU!!

Export the pics from iPhoto to the desktop. Connect the camera. If it's anything except a Canon and some models of Kodak, then it will show up on the desktop. Drag the photos to the disk icon for the camera.
IF it is a Canon, then you'll need to put the card from the camera into a USB Card Reader to get it to show on the Desktop.

• Where did my pics go ??? Transferred pics from memory card to Mac Pro and lost pics on memory card and unable to find on Mac

where did my pics go. Transferred 40-50- pic from camera memory card to Mac via slot; lost pics on memory card and unable to find anywhere in Mac. May have gone to Open Office as Data . Is that possible and if so can I get pics back or if not so ,where could they be????

First place to check is in the iPhoto library. If the images were imported there then they will be visible in the previews created.
The physical location of image files in iPhoto is quite buried in folders within folders. So, if you want to copy them then select all of the ones needed from the previews and copy from iPhoto to a new location, preferably a new folder in the Pictures folder.
The other app that might have transferred the files is Image Capture. It would download files from cards or cameras. Launch this app and look in the preferences to see the default location of transferred files.

• Transferring photos from camera or memory card causes iPhoto to hang up with the spinning beach ball - why

Transferring photos from camera or memory card causes iPhoto to hang up with the spinning beach ball - why? This happens only on a 5 year old iMac running 10.6.8. It is a recent developmemt. All other machines have no problen with the same card.

I click on the send feedback everytime it pops up with the force quit, so they'er getting it.
That sends a crash report. Its doubtful that these are ever seen by a human being, but more likely datamined. Sending feedback reaches an actual person.
My guess from yourdescription is that the portion of the OS (note, OS, not iPhoto) that manages the importing process is what's crashing.

• Again I am desperate to learn how to transfer pics from cam to computer

I had Kodak Easy Share which is no longer available. I have tried other transfer programs and I don't have sense enough to figure them out.
I simply want to transfer pics from camera to compt. so I can edit, and email.
Might someone please help?

Hi lee, how do your normally connect your camera to your computer -- USB cable? Many cameras are recognized as an external storage device and assigned a drive letter, such as "E". In these cases, you can use Windows Explorer to copy the files to your hard drive using drag and drop.
Some people prefer to remove the storage card from the camera and insert it into a card reader attached to the computer rather than using a USB cable.
There is a good photo forum site at dpReview where you can get advice on specific programs and products.

Unable to send pic from Camera Roll via Message. The screen freezes up.

Try closing the Photos app, as well as Messages by double tapping the home button, long pressing on one of these apps, then touching the minus sign above these two apps. It will also be a good idea to restart the phone. Then test your message again. Hope this helps.

You cannot do that, but could create a "Shared Photo Stream" by going to your camera roll, pressing the button "select" then selecting some photos, then clicking on the little arrow in the lower left corner, and pressing the iCloud icon.

Hi, on a new MBPR 13, I transferred pics from my Samsung Tracfone smartphone using AndroidTransferFile app, worked good. My Samsung Galaxy Tab will not transfer with ATF, tried Samsung Kies also no luck, any ideas? Thanks...

Today I downloaded a new version of Kies, 3.1.0.15042_6, and it seemed to work fine. I was able to backup my Note 3 running Lollipop with no hesitation. Files transferred to my Mac running Yosemite, OS X 10.10.3, easily. The download is available at http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/

• How can I load pics from camera without spaces in the filename (PSE5)

Hello,
I want to load the pics from my Fuji Camera with my newly acquired Photoshop Elements 5 into its database as simple as possible. I get offered several ways of renaming the pics during the import. Unfortunately the date formats offered (for folder or filenames) do *all* include space characters " ", which I do not like, because this caused me earlier a lot of trouble when putting the pics online, for example (%20 in the path name). Another reason is my existing photo collection since 2001, which has no spaces in the filenames as well.
Example for the filename:
PSE offers: "jj mm dd 001.jpg"
I want : "jjmmdd_001.jpg" or at least "jj_mm_dd_001.jpg" or anything similar.
For folder names the same thing appears.
Is there a way to do that without typing each date without spaces by hand?
How?
I would like to have the photo load process as simple as possible, without having to remove the spaces with a separate rename tool.
Any ideas?
I searched for quite a while and I am surprised that nobody else seems to have this problem. Am I just too picky?
Thank for any help.
Greetings from Germany,
Ulrich

Ken,
again thanks for your writing.

IMHO, if PSE had space free filenames, this would lead to a very simple and fast workflow with PSE alone (!) like this:

1. Just connect my camera (Fuji F31fd) with the USB cable (no fiddling with the memory card in and out each time)
2. Transferring all (or selected) pics into PSE, one folder per day, named yymmdd_optional_theme_description.
3. Delete all non-optimal pics after viewing in PSE. Then tagging, pic-improving where needed ....
4. As backup, burn/move to CD from time to time and copy/move to an external HDD for double security.

Its just the spaces in the filenames which prevents me from using this. I want to have the workflow well defined and fixed before I start using PSE5.
But it seems there is no workaround (so far).

Maybe I should just take the "trouble" and rename every folder manually within PSE. No problem with one or 2 days, and still not a very big problem after a 3 week holiday. But still all single photo files will have the spaces in them. If I want to avoid that, I really have to bring them to the PC without PSE, rename them as batch with Irfan or any other tool, and then import them to PSE, as you wrote. From my point of view, a lot of unnecessary hassle, especially if I have the simple workflow from above in mind.

Many people seem not to be disturbed by the spaces in the filenames. I wonder if I overrate the disadvantage of it. Your opinion(s)?

I am not sure what you mean with
<Perhaps Ulrich would be well served if he created a collection of newly acquired pictures with a common theme.>

In fact I want to come away from theme centered archiving the photos, which is what I did so far. I learned this from the article
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1018&message=26366116
and the following one from Arrowman. I won't follow all what he wrote *in detail*, but most ideas seem to be good. The PSE tagging should do the theme-related searches.

Greetings,
Ulrich

• Date issue while transfering pics from macbook to external drive

Hello
I am transferring pictures from my Macbook to an external hard drive and my issue is that the date of the picture (date of creation/modified) is being replaced by the date of the transfer… So let say that all my 2013 pictures have now the date of today – 19th June 2014. I tried to drag the pics as well as to export them but I am getting the same issue. I am doing transfers regularly and it is the first time I encounter this issue. Funnily enough it works when I drag one picture at a time but not for more than 3 pictures – very weird. Your help will be very appreciated !

There are two kinds of metadata involved when you consider jpeg or other image file.
One is the file data. This is what the Finder shows. This tells you nothing about the contents of the file, just the File itself.
The problem with File metadata is that it can easily change as the file is moved from place to place or exported, e-mailed, uploaded etc.
Photographs have also got both Exif and IPTC metadata. The date and time that your camera snapped the Photograph is recorded in the Exif metadata. Regardless if what the file date says, this is the actual time recorded by the camera.
Photo applications like iPhoto, Aperture, Lightroom, Picasa, Photoshop etc get their date and time from the Exif metadata.
When you export from iPhoto to the Finder new file is created containing your Photo (and its Exif). The File date is - quite accurately - reported as the date of Export.
However, the Photo Date doesn't change.
The problem is that the Finder doesn't work with Exif.
So, your photo has the correct date, and so does the file, but they are different things. To sort on the Photo date you'll need to use a photo app.

• Moving photos/downloaded pics from camera roll to another photo folder on Iphone

Is this possible. I created a new photo folder that appears on my Iphone called "Other Pictures". Now say I download a wallpaper or some other pic from the internet or save a pic from an email, it automatically goes to my camera roll folder. How can I move them to my "Other Pictures' folder on my Iphone. Can this be done on the Iphone itself somehow?
Or can this only be done via a mac, if so how do I locate the camera roll pics on my mac.
