Transferring pictures over from camera

How would I transfer my pictures over from my Canon 30D w/out using iPhoto? I connected my camera to my macbook w. the USB cable, but I'm at a lost on what to do after that.

Well if you want you can still use iPhoto to organize your photos. Then at anytime you want to edit a photo, just drag it from iPhoto to your Photoshop icon in the dock. (if its there.) That will cause PS to open with your photo and you can edit from there. iPhoto can be a very useful image organizer.
iPhoto will first create a file for the imported image. Then once you have made a change to that image, it will make a back up of that file. So at any time from today or 10 years from now, you can revert back to the original file in iPhoto.
Maybe another thing to look at is the camera itself. See if there is a mass storage mode or something. Maybe that can get the computer to see it. Also launch Disk Utility with the camera connected. See if the computer can see it in there.
Remember if you have trouble finding stuff on your computer. Just look in the upper right hand corner and use the blue search button. As you type it will find anything on your computer.

  • I transferred pictures over from my computer to my iPhone 5 and now i cannot delete them on the phone and cannot work out how to delete them from my phone by the computer?

I trasferred pictures over from my computer to my iPhone 5 and now i cannot delete these pictures from my phone, and i cannot work out how to delete them from my phone by the computer as the pictures do not show up in my files on the computer, how can i remove them i have over 400 pictures that need removing?

If you have a Mac with iPhoto, plug the iPhone in and open iPhoto. Choose to import the photos. Once they have been imported, there should be an option to "Remove Imported Photos from Device". Choose this.

  • Transferring pictures to the camera roll to restore it on the "places" app.

    Hello,
I really love the "Places" app on the iphone whre all my pictures get automatically sorted to where the picture was taken. Unfortunately, I transferred some of my holiday pictures to my laptop and the pictures were removed from from the camera roll. Is there any possible way to transfer the picture that I transferred to my laptop back to my camera roll? This is just so I can get the picture back on the "Places"  tab. The pictures were originally taken by my iphone.  Or is there any other alternatives?
would really appreciate some help. Thanks.

One of the drawbacks to PhotoStream...  You can delete all photos or none of them.  I think the idea is you just leave them in there for the full 30 days and don't worry about trying to manage them.  I've heard that they don't count towards your 5 GB of storage, but have not personally confirmed that.  (I don't take photos with my iPad, and don't keep wifi on on my iPhone, so PhotoStream isn't much use to me.)

  • Can anyone help. I need to reuse my SDHC cards and transfer footage from an ongoing profect to a hard drive. Can i edit from the Hard drive or am I better transferring info striaight from camera to time line

Hi I am using a JVC GY-HM100 camera which is meant to work well with final cut pro.  I have an ongoing project but need to save money and resuse the SDHC cards that are currently full of footage.
Would I be better off transferring the footage straight to the time line (as rumour has it you can do this with this camera) or store the footage on a hard drive and edit it later without risk of losing the footage.
    Many thanks

    Thanks Linda,
Here's some more info for you:
This is my pet checklist for questions regarding FCP X performance - you may have already addressed some of the items but it's worth checking.
Check the spec of your Mac against the system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/specs/
Check the spec of your graphics card. If it's listed here, it's not suitable:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4664
Make sure you're using the latest version of the application - FCP X 10.0.3 runs very well on my 2009 MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16 GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB. I run it with Lion 10.7.3.
Check that you have at least 20% free space on your system drive.
If you have not already done so, move your Projects and Events to a fast (Firewire 800 or faster) external HD. Make sure the drive's formatted OS Extended (journalling's not required for video). You should always keep at least 20% free space on the Hard Drives that your Media, Projects and Events are on.
If you are getting crashes, there is some conflict on the OS. Create a new (admin) user account on your system. Do NOT import any of the settings etc from the old account - simply use FCP X from there - if it runs a lot better, there's a conflict and a clean install would be recommended - but remember, if you reinstall the system, and then use Migration Assistant (or anything else) to import all your old settings etc etc, you may well be importing the cause of the conflict in the first place.
Keep projects to 20 mins or less (about half that for Multicam). If you have a long project, work on short sections, make them into Compound Clips and then paste these into a final project for export.
If you ever experience dropped frames, I strongly recommend you use ProRes 422 Proxy - it edits and plays back like silk because the files are small but lightly compressed (not much packing and unpacking to do) - but remember to select 'Original or Optimised Media' (FCP X Preferences > Playback) just before you export your movie, otherwise it will be exported at low resolution.
If you have plenty of processor power, for the ultimate editing experience, create Optimised Media - most camera native files are highly compressed and need a great deal of processor power to play back - particularly if you add titles, filters or effects. ProRes 422 takes up much more hard drive space but is very lightly compressed. It edits and plays back superbly.
Hide Audio Waveforms at all times when you don't need them (both in Browser and Storyline / Timeline). They take up a lot of processor power. (Use the switch icon at the bottom-right of your timeline to select a format without waveforms if you don't need them at the moment, then switch back when you do).
Create folders in the Project and Events libraries and put any projects you are not working on currently, in those folders. This will help a lot. There's a great application for this, called Event Manager X - for the tiny cost it's an invaluable application.
    http://assistedediting.intelligentassistance.com/EventManagerX/
Unless you cannot edit and playback without it, turn off Background Rendering in Preferences (under Playback) - this will help general performance and you can always render when you need to by selecting the clip (or clips) and pressing Ctrl+R.
The biggest single improvement I saw in performance was when I upgraded the RAM from 8 GB to 16.

  • Unable to record audio for Voice Over from camera

    Hi All:
I have an early 2008 black macbook, FCE4 and a canon HV 30 with an xlr adapter and mic. Imported all my footage just fine. Now I want to record a voiceover track using my nice mic through the camera. I plug in the camera to the computer via firewire. When I go to Voice Over Tool and try to select DV Audio, it tells me this:
"The Selected sound input device is unavailable.
It may be in use by another application, disconnected or improperly connected, or may be conflicting with a video output device."
Uh, okay. I check the manual, it warns me that "External Video" under the View menu must be to OFF. Problem is, there is NO "External Video" option whatsoever in the View menu! None! Whatsoever!
My firewire port is functioning, the computer knows there's a camera attached to it (I checked the Hardware overview, and surely enough the computer detects the camera)...
    What am I doing wrong?

I have Built-In Microphone, Built-In Input and DV Audio as source options...but I only get the above-mentioned error message when I select DV Audio. Even when I don't have the firewire & camera connected, I get that same error message when I select DV Audio...which makes me think that the computer doesn't detect the camera, but I know it does because the computer detects a Canon HV 30 in System Profiler (and I can capture w/o a problem...I just click Capture and press escape when the tape end is reached).
And what I meant earlier about capturing is that a window does pop up whenever I'm capturing from my camera and it shows the footage during capture, but the computer does not automatically respond to just my plugging the firewire cable in (idk if it's supposed to recognize it and ask me if I want to capture or not, but it doesn't...I have to prompt it to capture)
I'm also puzzled that I don't have an External Monitor option under View...I'm not using an external monitor, and the only thing close to External Monitor under the View menu is Video Out, under which there are: Refresh Video Devices, Toggle Last, Canvas Playback & Digital Cinema Desktop Preview - Main.

  • Transferring pictures not on camera roll to Macbook Pro-HELP!

    Hello everyone,
A year ago or so my harddrive on my Macbook Pro unmounted and I lost everything.  Well before that happened I had uploaded thousands of pictures to my Ipad 2 and so those are pictures not on the camera roll but in I guess a different kind of 'gallery'.  Also, I am not very computer savy so I apologize if this answer is simple.  But my problem is that I want to be able to take all of the pictures off of my Ipad 2 and get them back onto the Macbook but when I hook the sync cable up and Iphoto opens it only gives me the option to sync the camera roll gallery.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you everyone!
    Donovan

You cannot import synced photos back to the Mac. Only camera roll photos will import. There are third part WiFi transfer apps that will allow you to transfer photos from any album on the iPad back to the Mac. There are a number of these apps in the App Store. I use this one.

  • Leica M9 Raw import resets picture style from camera

    Hi Folks,
Strange behavior in Aperture. Latest updates installed including raw update for M9. I have the camera set for B&W. When I'm in the import window the pictures are B&W. After Aperture installs them it sets them back to color.
Is there a way to get Aperture to respect the settings from the camera and use them as the default for the image? Working with Canon cameras my recollection is that it worked.
    TIA
    Sam

Aperture is working correctly. Raw files are (mostly) limited to the light data recorded by the camera's sensor. Take a look at a couple quick explanations here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11252817#11252817
If you want to use the camera's raw converter and image-editing presets, you will have to save and import a standard image file format, such as JPG or TIFF. Raw is used in order to give the option of converting the sensor data using a raw developer of your choice.
The simple answer to your question is don't shoot raw. (You may be able to import your files as, for example, JPEG as Master.)

  • Viewing and transferring pictures downloaded from PC to MAC

Have iMAC 10.6.8. Using iPhoto '09. Have lots of pictures saved on CD downloaded from a PC. Problems viewing them on MAC. First, what is an easy way to view them on MAC without transferring them, and secondly, what is the best way to transfer them to MAC? Thanks.

Any USB external drive will work. I like OWC's enclosures and the only company I avoid is Western Digital due to their use of proprietary chipsets. The question then becomes how to format the drive - for cross compatibility for saving files I recommend formatting the drive on your Mac with exFAT format. From there you simply find the folder(s) with your pictures on the PC and copy them to the hard drive. Then reverse the process on the Mac.

  • HT5012 I have an iPad Air. The person who transferred  things over from old iPad used his apple address. How is it erased? Thanks

    Dear Apple employees ,
I have a new.new iPad Air. The person who transferred information from oldest iPad to this one, used his Apple address. How do I erase it.   Thanks

Please be aware that you are not communicating with Apple when you post in these forums. These are user-to-user support forums, so in almost all cases the only people who will reply to your posts are, like me, your fellow users.
As to your issue, what do you mean by "used his Apple address"? Are you referring to apps linked to his account? If so, then you can't change that. Apps are permanently tied to the account through which they were purchased. If you want those apps tied to your own Apple ID, you'll need delete them from the iPad and get them again through your own iTunes Store account.
If, however, you just mean that his Apple ID is coming up in the iTunes Store, App Store, etc. you can change this in the Settings -> iTunes & App Store area. You can similarly change accounts for email, calendars, etc. in the relevent settings.
If that doesn't address your question, please post back and clarify the situation you are attempting to remedy.
    Regards.

  • Transferring video files from camera to external drive.

    Forum,
How do I transfer video, or indeed can I, to an external drive using Firewire?
I can connect the camera with Firewire 400 to the computer and the external drive with F/wire 800.
I have not tried because i do not want damage my kit.
    Thank you
    Michael Craven.

Just connect the drive and see if you can capture to it... many times you can, but sometimes you can't... depends on the FW bridge in the drive. If it's fast enough, you won't have a problem. You won't hurt anything trying at any rate. If it drops frames or something, then a firewire card added to your system to create a second firewire bus will fix you right up.

  • Transferring files over from the hard drive of a previous computer. How can I get my library back?

A couple weeks ago, my old, old laptop finally breathed its last breath and shut off suddenly while I was using it. Various parts of it were broken anyway so I got a new one rather than try to figure out what was wrong with it. All of my files were totally undamaged since it wasn't a hard drive issue, so I just got one of those enclosure things where you unscrew your old hard drive, stick it into the enclosure, plug it into your new computer with a USB cord, and then can drag all your old files onto the new computer.
I could get all my old music back this way by dragging those folders, but if I want to get my library back -- specifically, my playlists, and ideally my info on play counts/date added/etc -- is there a way that I can do that? Is there some "Library" file, series of files, or folder that I can drag onto my new laptop in order to get those things back without having to recreate all my playlists and lose my play info?
Have been running Windows 7 on both my old and current laptop, and was using iTunes version 10.7.0.21, if that information is necessary. Can give you whatever other info you'd need. Thanks!

    1. By default, it will be in the same folder as the iTunes Music or iTunes Media folder. If you don't find it, search the computer for items with that name.
    2. Wherever you want.

  • No audio from clips from camera

I am using iMovie HD 6 and I have transferred my clips from cam corder. The problem I am having is that I am manually dragging video clips from my camera to iMovie and the clips go in except they have no audio. Any solutions to this problem would be great...

What kind of camcorder are we talking about? I suspect this isn't a tape based MiniDV type camera, right? And instead you are importing from some sort of DVD, Flash, or hard drive based camera? If so are the videos in MPEG format when you add them to iMovie?
QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, when you convert videos they sometimes only get the video and no sound since iMovie (really QuickTime) is not looking for the audio track within the video track and it gets lost.
Here is an article explaining it when you try to convert video to iPod format...
iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302588
One way to work around this is to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the files to fix this issue...
