Transferring playlists from old computer (G4) to new (macbook pro)

I have a G4 Ibook running OS 10.3.9 and itunes 4 (yes its from Paleozoic era)
I need to import the playlists on that computer (I have 25 playlists and 4500 songs) into my macbook pro.
After exporting the playlists they will NOT import into the macbook pro's Itunes (running 10.5.8 Itunes 9) This was tried at the genius bar and I was told that there was nothing they could do.
I had been advised to download the latest version of itunes that could be used on my G4 but when I searched online all version of that Itunes 7.0.2 were unavailable for a mac (although you can get them for windows)
Anyone know of any workarounds or a way to get a hold of Itunes 7.0.2.
To redo all of the playlists manually will take me days.

  • Using Migration Assistant to move files from old PC laptop to new MacBook Pro that has Windows 8 installed containing Outlook

When using Migration Assistant to move files from old PC laptop to new MacBook Pro, that has Windows 8 installed containing Outlook, will emails, contacts and calendar entries be moved to Outlook on the new MacBook or into Mail, Contacts and Calendar?

I doubt they will. But then I'm not sure as I used a migration program once about 18 years ago and totally FUBARed the system I had at that time and I've never used one again.
For me the reason to have a new system is to start fresh. Installing only program that I now use and manually copying data over from the older system.
Not sure your older version of Outlook, and the outlook mail boxes, are compatible with Office/Outlook for Mac 2011.
A better place to ask this question would be on the MS Office for Mac forums.
Hope it all works out for you.

Not possible, the current version of iTunes only allows syncing via iCloud which the 3G does not support.

II am new to Mac and was trying to transfer data from my PC to my new Macbook Pro.  The connection was lost however and now my Pro is stuck on the 'Transferring you nformation' screen.  How do I get out of this screen so I can attempt the connection again?  Is it safe to force shut down of my Mac and will it still prompt me through all the setup process again?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If your Mac and PC are connected by Ethernet, unplug and plug that cable again. If not, you have to turn off the MacBook by holding the Power button.
In the next startup, try to transfer your files again. It's important not to interrupt the transfer process, because in most cases, you will stop it and you won't be able to resume it

I am not computer savvy, but would appreciate some advice.
How do I transfer my domain in iweb from my old Powerbook G4 to my new Macbook Pro.

  • File transfer from old G4 iBook to new MacBook Pro

I hope this is the right place for this post/question....
I am trying to do a file migration from my old iBook G4 PPC to my new MacBook Pro. The iBook does not have the migration utility and when I put the new OSX DVD in from my MacBook (as instructed to do in the Migration utility's steps) it does not read it (presumably because it is not the right processor, etc) so I had no luck doing the computer to computer transfer. I do not have the "Time Machine" utility on the old computer and using my regular back-up did not allow me to migrate using the "other drive" option (MacBook never saw the drive in the utility, but does mount it and allow me to access it as a drive). I can do this the hard way, file by file, but I have a couple of concerns that I want to check on before I spend hours going down a bad path.
    1) I have thousands of songs in my iTunes... can I drag and drop these? What about my play lists?
    2) iPhoto - I have thousands of photos - how do I easily transfer those over in their respective scrapbooks?
    3) Bookmarks, I can deal with by trying to find the file and importing them, or doing it manually, although there are a lot of them. Easier way?
    4) Outlook - I can try to export and import using the built in features, but not sure if that will pull all the folders and structure.
Those are the big ones... I have had this computer for 8 years, so it is pretty embedded in my life and I am hoping for a utility or something that will help this process.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Keith

The migration utility in the newer computer's OS X would usually allow
the older Mac's info to be pulled into the new computer; the installer
disc for the new Mac won't do anything for the old PPC Mac since it
would be unreadable. Intel-based Mac machine-specific discs won't
work in PPC-based Macs; and in general different machines can't
or won't use the install-restore discs from other models.
There may have been a way via ethernet, usb or firewire to share files
using a System Preference panel setting to facilitate this action. The
suggested method should be adequate. You can also put an iTunes
library and iPhoto library on a suitable external drive to par-down the
content and reduce clutter in a portable computer's hard disk drive
and still be able to access those carefully moved libraries from there.
Some good support documents in Apple Support tell how to do this.
In Firefox, you will have to rename the old folder of bookmarks to the
same name as the existing new apps folder for them to be seen. I
just replaced folders, carefully, so if that didn't work the first time, the
items were easy to find and try again later. Once you get the folder,
the contents should appear in the new browser version as they had
in the older one, to some extent, after the file or contents are moved.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Transferring data from 750GB backup drive to new MacBook Pro with 256 Gb PCI-e flash storage?

Yesterday my late-2008 aluminium unibody MacBook died - absolutely and definitively.  I've tried SMC reset multiple times to no avail.  However, it served me well for almost six years and it's now time to move on.  I've decided to buy a 13 inch MacBook Pro Retina with 256Gb PCI-e flash storage.  Obviously, it will come with Mavericks installed as the operating system.
When it died, my MacBook was running OS X 10.8.5, the original hard drive had been replaced with a Western Digital 750GB, 7200 rpm drive of which I believe about 350GB was used. I keep two x 1Tb Lacie Rugged backup drives, each of which has both Time Machine and SuperDuper Bootable Clone backups.
    My questions are these -
    1.     How should I proceed to transfer my data from my external backup drives to my new MacBook Pro Retina, given the difference in storage capacity of my existing backup drives and my new MacBook Pro?
    2.     I have over 32,000 photos in my iPhoto Library which, obviously, consume a big slab of disk space.  I'm not sure how I go about 'quarantining' the iPhoto Library so that it doesn't use all the flash drive storage.
    3.      One of the Lacie Rugged's has a 'triple interface' - i.e. USB 2, Firewire 400 and Firewire 800.  The other has a USB 2 and 2 x Firewire 800 (IIRC).    The MacBook Pro Retina has two USB 3 ports and two Thunderbolt 2 ports. I want to continue to use the Lacies as my backup drives.  Am I better off to use the USB  ports or should I invest in a Thunderbolt to USB cable?  Does it make any real difference in terms of backing up (which, in my case, doesn't have to be all that speedy).
    4.     What else should I be thinking about? I know I'm bound to have overlooked the most obvious problems but can't think what they may be ...
    Cheers
    Tricia

USB3 is backwards compatible with USB2, so you can use the old USB cables.  For faster data transfer rates, Firewire 800 would be available using this adapter:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapte r
Firewire 800 is about twice as fast as USB2, theoretically.

  • Transferring files from my iBook to my new MacBook Pro

So I treated (an understatement) myself to a new MacBook Pro a few days ago after having a few difficulties with my beloved iBook G4. After I damaged the iBook's original power adapter, I managed to buy a dodgy one on eBay, which packed up and left me running on battery power.
I'm expecting my MacBook Pro to arrive any day now and I know that during the setup procedure (of OS 10.3, at least), you're given the option to transfer all your documents across from your previous Mac to a new one via Firewire. Brilliant idea, but my iBook's only got 15 minutes of power left and I have no way to charge it back up for the moment, so I somehow doubt it would hold out for the entirety of the procedure.
Basically, is there a way to launch the file-transfer wizard once Leopard is up and running? I'm paying particular attention to the transfer of all my E-mails from Mail and events from iCal.
On a similar topic, is there any way to sync iCal between the two Macs using iSync?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Kappy has written a helpful guide for PPC to Intel transition, which you can read in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6630396&#6630396
You will still need to use firewire target disk mode, but not the complete migration assistant process (which can be a problem going from PPC to Intel anyway!). Scroll down to step #4, which will tell you exactly which files you really need to transfer over for Mail and iCal.
    Hope this helps...

  • Transferring programs from my imac to my new macbook pro

I just bought a 15" macbook pro and wanted to transfer everyting from my older imac. I bought the fire wire cable but for some reason I am having a hard time getting this to work. Any ideas???? Will i be able to transfer my itunes library to my ne macbook pro? Please help.

There is something call disk mode. If you computer A is in disk mode then when connected to your computer B, computer B will see computer A as an external hard drive. To do this for computer A go to System Prederence>Start up disk. There is an option for you to restart your computer in disk mode.

  • Transfering i Tunes from another computer to my new Macbook Pro

    Hi
I have recently bought a new Mac Book Pro 15'. Prior to that I was using iTunes on my other notebook where I have all the songs and apps. Now When I am opening my iTunes from MBP it is blank and I need to transfer all my data from the other notebook to this machine. I tried syncing my IPhone with Itunes on MBP however it is removing all the data from my IPhone as theere is nothing to sync in my iTunes on MAC Kindly suggest how can I migrate from my previous notebook to this machine.

the simplest way would be to connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in _*Target Disk Mode*_, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the source to <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).
another option is to set up _*Home Sharing*_ on both computers, then transfer the content via your network. however, none of your ratings or playcounts would be retained. also, unless you have your artwork embedded in each file, you would have none of that.
