Transferring Preset Print settings between computers using indesign

Ok so I just got a brand new macbook pro that has the latest os x 10.5.7, and I'm using it at work. I need to print files off of indesign in a specific way that my computer doesn't know how to. One of the work computers has been setup before and i need to transfer the presets from that computer to this one. I've tried replacing my com.apple.print.custompresets.plist file and that didn't work. Then i called applecare and they said transfer files from the hidden folder etc. I copied the ppd folder and the two files right below it which were printers.conf and printers.con.O, and that didn't work either. So finally i tried to save the preset settings directly from indesign by going to print presets/define/save, then i put that file on my computer and tried opening the file as a preset setting but it said that indesign cannot locate the ppd specified by the preset. Any ideas?

I haven't tried to install a postscript printer on a Mac in over 4 years, so I'm pretty rusty, and I honestly don't know how to check what driver is in use, but I suspect you don't have the postscript driver installed.
But to do what you want is more than just picking the correct print driver. Somewhere along the line you need to impose the booklet. I don't know the printer, but I imagine the controller has some some sort of imposition function built in, along with controls for the finisher.
I've just been on the Konica Minota site and it looks as if the PS drivers were issued for OS 10.4, but all they have for 10.5 looks like a paper size patch. You should probably call KM cutomer service (or your vendor) to see what you need to do to get it installed correctly.

The Creative Cloud application becomes inoperable continually on both my Windows 7 and 8.1 operating systems. I'm tired of re installing the application after deleting the OOBE file to get updates and syn settings between computers for Photoshop. Is this an endemic problem with others? I'm using Google Chrome as my browser. Is this an issue with the problem?

Similar problem just happened to me with the Creative Cloud Update 1.7.1.418—slightly different so I thought I'd share. I have multiple Adobe Creative Cloud programs installed on my computer, all working just fine. I updated the Cloud App to the latest version and then it shows me that I have only one program installed! All my previously installed programs (Photoshop and the like) still work but show as "install" instead of "Up to date". Initially I thought I'd have to re-install the Cloud app or recreate the OPM data base but then I noticed that some of the Cloud app preferences (Apps > Settings > App Language) were different to what I had set previously. I use English (International) language, the update had reverted the app back to English (North American). I flicked back to my previous language and bam, all my apps now show as being installed correctly.

  • Does MobileMe sync e-mail messages or only the account settings between computers?

Does MobileMe actually sync e-mail messages between computers or only the account settings?

Here's a scenario:  We have an iPhone, an iMac, and a MacBook Plus that we want to sync with MobileMe. So let's say that we check our e-mail using the iMac tomorrow. We save some new messages and delete the rest. Does MobileMe then sync (i.e. save the same messages and delete the rest on the iPhone and the MacBook Plus)? Or do we need to go through the same process with the iPhone and the MacBook Plus as we did on the iMac?
Also, does MobileMe sync addresses, favorites, documents, etc.?
If you delete a message on the iMac it would also automatically delete that message on the iPhone and MacBook. If you send a message from the iPhone it would appear in the sent messages folder on the MacBook. If you receive a message on the MacBook and read it then it would appear as read on the iMac, etc.
Yes, MobileMe will sync your address book, Safari bookmarks and documents. However it's a little trickier with the documents as it involves localizing your iDisk. I'm personally not a huge fan of the tech that Apple uses for the iDisk (WebDAV) and I feel there are some better solutions out there but it will get the job done.
It's important to add that Apple offers a 60-day, no obligation, trial of MobileMe for you to try out and see if the features are worth it for $99/year.

  • Can I adjust print settings when I use AirPrint?

    Hi
I have a MFC-J430W Brother printer set up for Airprint.
When I use Airprint on my ipads or iphones it always comes out in color.
Is there a way to adjust my print settings when using my mobile devices?
I wasn't sure where to place this question.  Since the printer is connected to my iMac I am parking it here.
Brother support is underwhelming.  But I've noticed the same limitation with other brand Airprint printers.
    Thanks

Printing from an iOS device does not give you controls for the print, all you can do is send something to the AirPrint printer.  AirPrint is a pretty fundamental level print system.

  • Photoshop Print Settings - what to use - photos look awful.

I don't know what I did but when I go to print a photo the Photoshop Print Settings pop up.  Which is better - Printer manages color or Photoshop?  I don't know how to change my Printer Profile.  I have search HP for over 3 hours.  I have an Officejet Pro 8600 and can't seem to find anywhere to change it.  The photoshop print settings the Printer Profile is :sRGB IEC61966-2.1.  Under Color Management - Please use Adobe Color Printer Utility if you need to print with No Color Management - also didn't work.  The more I do the worse it gets.  The prints for instance arms showed dark specks.  Look awful. I have an iMac and am using the iMac settings in my color profile in preferences.  Any ideas?

I'll go along with that.  Use the printer manufacture's software and paper, and you at least have a chance of things working out.  I went through years of hassle with various Epson printers, even spending serious money having a custom profile made, but the results were never great, and the Internet showed I was not alone.  Since switching to Canon with a Pixma 9000Pro, and using Canon's EasyPhotoPrintPro software, it just works first time every time, so I can thankfully circumvent all that printer profile mylarky.  Incidentally, I do use other paper, principally Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl, which works as well as Canon paper.  But I almost never enter competitions nowadays, so have not used the photo printer in over a year.  I bet it cost $25 in ink just turning the thing on, and I can get a professionally printed A3 for that money, and I don't have a third of my desktop taken up by a rarely used printer.

  • InDesign PDF presets sync settings multiple computers

    Hi,
I have 4 collegues, we all have the CC team version. Is it possible to sync for example PDF presets across all computers? So that we maybe can have a "master" and then everybody syncs after that one. We're all on Mac's . Thanks in advance.

Using the File>Adobe PDF Presets, chose anyone of the pre-existing Adobe pre-sets--not one that you've created.
Change the settings to the pre-sets you want, including the security settings, and then click "save preset".
That would be an nice easy solution, but there is no access to security settings in the PDF presets.

  • Transferring Itunes data between computers using an external hard drive.

I just bought a new laptop and an external hard drive. What is the best way to go about transfering all of my 1400 songs on Itunes from my old computer to my new laptop using the external hard drive? I have purchased some songs from Itunes but mostly they were not bought there. Thanks in advance.

The guide for using the iPod as a hard drive is a good starting point. Just skip on past the part about enabling the iPod as a hard drive and read from "Is all the music together?". Substitute "external hard drive" for "iPod" and the instructions are the same: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

  • Transfering settings between computers

I have a new computer and installed elements 11 on it.  I have a complete backup of the hard-drive of my old computer.
How do I get all my old settings, tagged people and catalogue from my old computer program on my new one ?  I have a large selection of tagged people and places and do not want to lose that information about all the video.
    Thank you.

What is the extension for a catalogue ?
A catalog is not a single file, it's a folder containing the main database, catalog.pse13db, together with other files and subfolders (including the cache for thumbnails). The default location (which may be a hidden folder in Windows) can be found by the Help/System info menu of the organizer. You should be able to find that folder in your old computer and to copy it where you want on the new computer. The problem I mentionned will be to get all your pictures 'reconnected'. That can be done with the 'reconnect' command.

  • I want to set default printer settings to be used only for a specific type of application, certain documents. All other print jobs should use a different default setting for the printer.

I am printing a specific document from a web based application. This document need to be printed in landscape. So I would like to set the default settings for this specific printer to landscape. But for all other printers it should be portrait. But this does not seem to work. The browser picks the settings from the standard/default printer and uses this for all print jobs.

  • Why do I have consistent printing results between Photoshop and InDesign?

Why is it that a photographic image that prints fine in Photoshop, when placed in InDesign prints contrasty and bluish? I've synced the color settings in Bridge. What is it about color settings that I'm not getting? I'm printing to an Epson Stylus R1800.

If the image is RGB in Photshop are you keeping everything as RGB in InDesign. The Transparency Blend Space is RGB, the Print>Output>Color is Composite RGB, and Print>Color Management>Printer Profile is Document RGB?

  • Is there a way to transfer IVI settings between computers?

I'm trying to use the IVI generic class drivers and would like the Logical Names , Virtual Instruments, Instrument Driver, and Device settings to be transferred to another computer so I don't have to go through the multi-headed beast setup for each of many power supplies. Is there a file, such as the .daq that transfers these settings? The .daq only seems to get the channel wizard stuff...

Information about logical names, vitual instruments etc. you can find in ivi.ini. This file should be located in [VXIpnp]\WinNT\niivi\ivi.ini (Win NT,2000,Xp). In windows 95,98,Me [VXIpnp]\Win95\niivi\ivi.ini

  • I'm trying to print  an Ancestry document from an iPad 2 using air print onto a Canon 5350 (one of the printers ok'd by Apple) I am unable to change the print orientation from portrait to landscape.  That is I change it in printer settings but no use.

I'm trying to print an Ancestry document from an iPad 2 using air print.  The printer is a Canon MG5350 (on the Apple approved list) I have no difficulty printing but only in portrait format.  I've tried changing printer preferences from my computer but even though the Canon accepts the changes it will not print landscape - can anyone advise please?

    Hi,
How do you connect the printer to the XP machine ? If USB, you need to make that machine as a Print server. Please try this:

  • Transfering Bridge (and files) between computers

I will soon be switching over to a new computer, which means overhauling my files and unfortunately Bridge. I know that my labels and keywords will transfer since they are attached to the files themselves in the metadata, but what about my collections? I have smart collections which would rebuild themselves once I re-constructed them on the new computer, but I also have some manually built collections that I don't fully remember the criteria for dragging certain pictures in them. I am not sure how to transfer either type of collection beyond having both computers open Bridge and manually reconstruct them. Since I am 1:1 transfering my files for the most part (i.e. keeping the same folder hierarchy), the new computer will have the same relative paths which might work to my advantage or might make no difference whatsoever. Any ideas on exporting/importing collections and other features of Bridge that may not be readily transferable or that are not stored in the metadata?

You might want to explore the concept of "build and export cache" in tools/cache.  Not all data is written to the file, some is held in an XMP file, which has same name as file.  You want them both to transfer at same time.
To see if you have XMP files click on view/show hidden files.
    Don't know much about collections.

  • ITunes 11.0.2 will not allow me to drag any files to import items between computers using Home Sharing. Help?

There are no "import" thumbnails and I'm un able to drag and drop files. I've ensured on both computers that they both have sharing capabilities. All the websites say that I should be able to just drag and drop the files into the outgoing computer linked to my homesharing network, but there is not reaction from the file when i try to grab it.Thanks everyone!

I can not find the "Show menu" button either!    I am trying to do Home Sharing between 2 PCs in the same room.  The Home Sharing Libraries show up ok on each, with the various tunes displaying on each, but I can not move (or "import") tunes from one computer to the other!   It also won't allow me to drag from my husband's library to my library, and vice versa.    I can play them ok on each computer, but the dragging or importing is not happening.
Apple, please fix this!   Both PCs are up to date with iTunes 11.0.2.26.
Anyone have any suggestions?   I just want to move legally purchased music from one computer to the other.  This shouldn't be that difficult.     It's supposed to be the point of Home Sharing!
