Transferring purchased songs to new computer

I'm in the process of saving all the information I have stored on my current computer because I'm set to receive the new iMac within a few days. I would like to transfer all my purchased music (from iTunes Music Store) to the new computer -- is it best to burn audio CDs and re-import in the new computer? Is there a way to transfer one's entire iTunes library to a new computer?

BookCase, there are several ways this can be done. If you are going to burn, you need to burn as data CD's not audio as data CD's will hold much more content. You can back everything up to an EHD, plug in the EHD to the new G5 & drag the whole folder back into iTunes. The EHD is what I wanted to do when I moved from a PC to a Mac 3 weeks ago as I had backed my whole library up to an EHD for over six months. It didn't work because I had formatted the EHD where the Mac couldn't read it. The 3rd option which is what I ended up doing is a nice little 3rd party app, iPodRip. It worked like a charm, opened it, attached the iPod, clicked on recover, & BAM, 13GB library was transferred into the new Mac. The only thing I had to do was drag & drop my playlists from iPodRip into iTunes. If your interested in iPodRip, check on Versiontracker.com. Hope this helps!

Trying to download previously purchased items to new computer. Found them but there is no download option. Instr say must be password used when originally purchased. Could that be problem? I've changed mine. I did not back up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello, johnandsteph.
You are allowed a total of 5 computers at a time to be authorized to play content.  It is not necessary to deauthorize an old computer if you are attempting to add a new one unless you have reached your five total allotment.  From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer and enter your Apple ID and password.  At that point you should be able to access your previous purchases.  I have included two links listed below.  The first one goes over authorization and deauthorization.  The second article covers how to download past purchases.

  • Purchased Songs on New computer

I have used iTunes on my iPod touch and my computer to purchase songs, but my computer has a virus and I have lost everything and now I am on a different one. I have downloaded iTunes to this computer, so is there any way that I can get the songs that I have already bought onto this computer?

You can use iTunes to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
One more thing, if your iPod is set to sync automatically you need to take care connecting to a different and possibly empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Alternatively open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.
If at any point you get a message that your iPod is linked to another library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.

  • Why can't I download purchased songs on new computer?

Okay so I'm having a slight issue. I just got a new MacBook Pro and I'm having issues. I am attempting to download my purchased songs. I am in iTunes and when I attempt to download it prompts me to enter my password. Upon doing this it starts to download then gives me an error message followed by prompting me once again to enter my password. I know this is not a wrong password for sure haha I've double and triple checked. I have tried restarting iTunes my computer an other restart based fixes. Just really unsure what is happening.

    Contact iTunes Support -> http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html.
As I'm not sure why that would be happening...

  • Transferring Ipod songs to new computer

    Hi All,
I looked at the instructions to transfer my ipod songs onto my new computer and while they were crazy long, I think I could have gotten through it. One problem, I don't have my old computer.
Is there anyway to transfer the songs on my ipod, other than my purchased songs, onto my new computer?
The thought of digging all my cd's back out and loading them into this computer isn't my idea of fun.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Loading Previously Purchased Songs on New Computer

I'm looking to load previously purchased songs onto a new computer. My old computer received a virus (those people are going to ****) and I want to recapture all the music I previously purchased. Is that possible?
I tried the "check for purchases" under the tools button but only two songs came through.

Assuming you have an iPod - hook it up to your "puter & you should receive a dialogue box which states that there are songs on your iPod that are not on your "puter "do you wish to transfer them?
Press Ok & sit back & relax. If not call apple & explain your plight to them, they can do this as I found out ( before I sussed connecting my iPod up though!). However they will ask you to detail all your purchase dates & order No.s etc. but you will be able to get this info by logging on to your iTunes account. Tiresome but it worked for me!.
    Hope this helps

  • Downloading previously purchased songs to new computer

How do I re-download songs that I already purchased and downloaded onto my old computer, onto my new computer? Or how do I get access to the iTunes library on my old computer from my new computer?

You can only download iTunes purchases once: iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
This page will give you various options for copying purchases from one computer to another: iTunes for Windows: How to copy purchases between authorized computers
Probably the most straightforward way to get iTunes onto your second computer is to network it with the first one and copy your iTunes folder across. Start by consolidating your library. When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them: Copying all your iTunes files to one location - Windows
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the default location on the new computer. On a PC this is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\ (or C:\Username\Music\ in Vista). You should also use the same version of iTunes on both computers.
You can also use this method with an external hard drive, you drag the folder from the first computer to the external drive and then from the drive to the second computer.
If you have and iPod, some iPods can be used as an external drive and you can use them to move your iTunes (this option isn't available with the iPod Touch): How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
Also if you are disposing of the old computer remember to deauthorise it so you don't use up one of your 5 allowances: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

  • Uploading Previously purchased songs to new computer

I'm having trouble tranferring previously purchased songs from my IPOD nano to my new lap top. When I attempt to transfer, about 25 of my 100 previously purchased songs transfer and the remainder do not. Something about not being authorized to transfer to this computer. All 100 songs were purchased off I-Tunes.

I am having similar problems. I have my library (and playlists) on my new computer, the new compte has been authorised and the previously purchased songs play on the computer. However, since then I have connected my ipod for a update and all my previously purchased songs were removed from my ipod. Why has it done this? The songs are still in my new computer and are playable. Can they be put back on my ipod?

  • Transfering purchases to a new computer via the cloud

I installed iTunes on a new computer and want to download my purchanced music and apps (via the cloud). When I sign in to do this it either says that my username and password or incorrerct or that the server is having issues. The same issue occurs when I try to turn on Genius.
iTunes knows what I purchansed, it shows it when I click the purchase (new) button, but won't let me download becasue of the above problem.
incidentally, this issue is not a problem with my work computer, to be able to post this on Apple Support Communities I had to enter my apple ID, which it recognized with no server issues.
    Help!

you need third party software.. there are many free programs that will allow you to take the information on your ipod and transfer it onto your computer..
you can find these programs at www.versiontracker.com

ALso how do I guarantee that all my purchased and downloaded songs stay in my itunes account
Songs don't "stay" in your account. They stay on your computer and on your backup disks. If you get rid of your computers befefore you make a backup of your songs, you will lose your songs.
