"Transferring purchases" Whats the point?

When I sync my iPhone to my macbook, it takes quite a while, and it appears that most of the time is spent "transfering purchases." It spends all this time transferring apps to my mac. Is this just my app data or is it the entire application? If its just the app data, that should be a really quick process I would imagine. Also, app data is backed up as part of the "backup" process, either through wifi or via the separate backup this phone option. If its the entire app, then what is the point? I can't execute ios apps on my laptop, and if my phone gets erased, why couldn't it just automatically re-download all of the apps I previously had installed when I put my Apple ID back in and the phone can see what apps I previously had installed on my device? Seems like a waste of time to me.
I can understand letting itunes know which songs/books/videos/tv shows, etc. that I purchased on my phone, so that I can download them on my computer also, but that still wouldn't require downloading the actual data, and it wouldn't have to wait until a sync session to do that. Both the phone and itunes on the computer are listening to Apple's servers based on your Apple ID for information on what media you've purchased.
So bottom line is what is the point of downloading ios apps to the computer?

If you have a lot of Apps, it's certianly easier to add them to the iPhone via iTunes than it is to re-download them from the App Store.

The warranty says that Apple may restrict service of an iPhone to the country of sale, and any reliable salesperson will tell you that if you tell them that you plan to use the iPhone in another country. Such service restrictions are common with cellphones and are by no means limited to Apple's phones.
Sorry, but if your iPhone requires service, you will need to send it to someone you know in the US who can get it serviced and then send it back to you.
    Regards.

You are looking at the Store drop-down menu at the top of iTunes (on a PC with iTunes 11 press alt-S and the Store drop-down should appear) ? e.g.

  • Whats the point of "Add Encore Chapter Marker" if I have to export it to m2v to use the sequence in

Eh collegues there is a button on the timeline "Add Encore Chapter MArker"
But since I have to export the entire sequence in M2V and WAV if i want to use it in enocre, then whats the point of this?
Can i put the timeline to encore without having to export the whole project in m2v via the "File>Export>Export to encore" option?

File, export, movie. Export as dv avi. then open encore and import as timeline.
You can make chapter points in premiere as well, but you have to use sequence markers. when you export movie, make sure you include chapter markers under compile settings. Or you can make chapter markers in encore.

  • Hi I went to an Apple store in sydney regarding a battery problem on my Iphone . All the think its the phone settings but my question is what the point of giving the facilities in phone if we are not suppose to use those?

Hi I went to an Apple store in sydney regarding a battery problem on my Iphone . All the think its the phone settings but my question is what the point of giving the facilities in phone if we are not suppose to use those?

    Your question/request is incomprehensible.
    This much can be understood:
You have an iPhone (model unknown)
You have some sort of battery issue (exact kind unknown)
You went to the Apple Store in Sydney (presumably, Australia)
You did not achieve satisfaction on said visit.
So, throw a shrimp on the barbie while you explain yourself, mate!

  • Whats the point of Photos if you don't use the cloud?

I find iPhoto useful as quick reference library for my images. Most of the time I use Lightroom & Photoshop, but iPhoto and Aperture have their uses. Given my experience of the apallingly poor (virtually non-existant) synchronisation using iCloud with Pages, Numbers and Keynote that I have experienced over the past few months despite repeatably checking that I have the latest versions etc. I will NEVER store my images on someone else's servers. To that end, what is the point of Photos?
I own a number of 2TB & 3TB hard drives which store my images and backup reliably and which I have already paid for. Why would I want to pay Apple to store yet more copies and suffer the inevitable loss of control over retrieving them, which is what I have experienced with Pages, Numbers and Keynote.
As regards synchronising with all my devices - no thanks. I can easily copy images to my iPad via iTunes. No doubt Apple will remove this option at some point to force us to rent space on the Cloud. When that happens I will abandon Apple totally. You have been warned Apple execs!

What I don't understand is your comment that you use iPhoto as a quick reference library for your photos? Why would you not use Lightroom for that purpose - a much better photo management tool than iPhoto is.
As to why you would use Photos - again it would depend on your answer to the above question. The same way you import your photos into iPhoto you can import them into Photos and use it as a "quick reference tool". And you don't have to enable iCloud Photo Library, just keep your photos on your own computer/drives. I don't use iPhoto (my wife did) and I used Aperture and Pixelmator (a Photoshop-lite alternative). I plan on using Photos (and the iCloud Photo Library) to the photos that my wife and I take with our iPhones (and the ones we decide to save from Facebook) mainly. I occasionally will add some photos from Aperture (or Lightroom when I get around to migrating to that from Aperture) that my wife wants access to.

  • What the point of scheduling an appointment

What is the point of getting a technician appointment for between 8am and 12pm, If the Technical wont get to me until 1pm?
True inconvenience on the customer!, After talking with a Supervisor, it truly shows the Verizon Fios DOES NOT CARE ABOUT IT’S CUSTOMERS!!!!!
It’s been my experience that Verizon Reps are untrained and consistently give out the wrong information. When you try to complain to the supervisor it's like the reading from the same script “ I will look into it and coached that associate(s) on how to properly do their job, and I will continue to monitor your order to make sure everything is completed”.
Then the supervisor could only tell me "MAYBE",
MAYBE a differenct technician MIGHT be in your area, and dispatch will get them to come
MAYBE the technician assisgned will get done early, and MIGHT be able to come early
To me all that is saying is MAYBE I should cancel my service and switch to someone esle!

At least you had a tech show up. I had 2 texts telling me the tech was coming and asking if I wanted to cancel. The tech texted me after waiting 3 hours 58 minutes that he was on his way, called me 10 minutes later to say he would be there in 10 minutes. 30 minutes later another text saying the tech was cancelled. Really? the tech didn't even have the common courtesy to come by and tell me verizon canceled him. The worst part is there is not one person at verizon that I could get in touch with that gave a **bleep** about the service I received or that I have the worlds slowest dsl for over 2 weeks. The funny thing is this is supposed to be verizon customer appreciation week. I guess they appreciate that we just put up with terrible customer service.

  • Whats the point of converting to a different format.

I recently learned I can convert all my music to any format and bit rate I want with iTunes. I converted 1 song 3 times into the same format (MP3) but a different bit rate each (128, 224, 320). When I converted each one I kept all the other settings the same, only changing bit rate. I listen to each format of the song with iTunes, and they all sounded like they had the same quality. So I hooked up my head phones (since they pick up everything), and they still all sounded the same. Then I thought, maybe iTunes plays all of its music in the format that I have the converter set to. Last, I put all three of my songs on a MP3 player. When listening to each one of them through the MP3 player, they all still sound the same. What is the point of having the option to change the bit rate, if they seem to have the same quality, except for making the file take up more hard drive space.

Thank you guys, I was wondering why what I thought, seemed to not line up with what was going on. Just so I know I understand, wheather I import a song off a cd, or buy a song digitally. What quality they are in, can not be changed, you can only change the size of it? Say I download a song that is 320kbps and convert it to 128kbps. Of course, the size drops significantly,. but there really is no difference in the listening quality?
I have many songs that are 128 kbps and above, and they all sound good enough for me. I also have a song that is (i think) 86kbps, and not so much the quality as it is the loudness, is low. I have to turn everything up as high as I can to make it sound good. If the bitrate really only messes with the size, why is it that the 86 kbps song I have is so low with sound?
The way it sounds, is that I should always, always get the highest quality song that I can. Then, use the converter to take the song with good quality, and make it have a lower bit rate simply for space?
Through all the songs I've ever had, the bitrate (for me) was a good way of telling the quality of the song(I thought was the same thing). It seemed like when i get music, for the most part, the higher the bitrate was the better the quality was. Kind of like that 86kbps song, low bitrate is equaling low sound. Listening to a song can give you a good idea what the quality of the song is, compaired to another. But say i go to get the best quality of my music. and then convert them to smaller files. Is there a solid way to tell a song is good quality and not just converted to a higher bitrate except for listening to them?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm a noob when it comes to the quality of music. Thank you for all your replies.

  • Whats the point of updates?????

I have been a verizon customer for a long time now. I have observed over the years that every phone we buy and start a contract with verizon seems to wanna update and add more to the phone. To the point to where the phone cannot take such applications for its memory. I know why they do it. They want you to upgrade your phone the second you can. I think its ** and they seriously need to stop doing it. Its hard enough to pay the x amount of dollars we pay per month for the service. Granite the service itself is awesome. (The reason I stay with Verizon) But really, If Verizon wants to update the phone Maybe they should take into consideration of the device being updated and see if it can really handle it. I know nothing i say can sway Verizon from doing these things to us but i just want to throw it out there and i really hope everyone reads this and complains as i have done. I seriously think most of peoples problems are from these updates that we are forced to take. My samsung charge was very fast and I never had to restart are hard restart the phone till after the second update. Im lucky to play a game now without it locking up on me.
Those of you with nw phones such as the galaxy s3 and others in the same times frame, watch and see how slow the phone gets over the next year and a half to two years. Godd luck and I hope this reaches many people and people think about thier problems with thier phones and how this might be related.

Haha. Im not stupid i know how things work with computers and electronics. Yes My computer is up to date. For your info I have a 7000 dollar computer and run video games with ease. Also I built it my self with my own hands.
What im saying is when they give you updates they put useless things on the phone that run in the background the whole time and use up all the phones memory after every update. As I said before updates fix issues and problems with the phones but they also tack extras in the phone with the update. I have tons of stuff on my compter. From music to movies and programs to games. All stored on the hard drive. i can do anything i want on my computer and it does not slow it down. Why? (Cause it was built to handle it) If something comes out that the computer will not support I will not add it. I will either get another computer or upgrade the computer itself before trying to run stuff it wasnt meant to handle. Same issue with phone. Don't put things on the phone updates if the phone cant handle it and the normal tasks the phone was meant for. Plain and simple!

  • Whats the point of having page thumbnail view in Pages 5...

...when it has absolutely 0 functionality?!?!?!?
Can't copy/paste, can't select multiple pages, can't rearrange, can't insert...seriously...other than being able to delete and navigate, its been stripped of its most important functions.

I am trying to track down your error -1712 but am unable to reproduce it, nor find any references to it.
We are recommending using Pages '09 v4.3 for now.
Pages 5 is not just short of features it is also hazardous to use.
A number of users have reached the point where their Pages 5.1 documents will not open and any attempts to recover text form those documents only produces hexadecimal gibberish.

  • Sci-15c purchased app survived the upgrade to ios 6.1.2 on ipad3 and iphone 4s, but missing on ipad mini.  App store doesn't show app and it doesn't appear on my purchases.  Whats the point of icloud and the app store?  Help please.

Why is the excellent hp-15c emulator, sci-15c, which I purchased years ago, missing from my ios upgraded ipad and not shown in my purchased apps nor in the store?
The app did get properly reatored to my other ipad 2 and 3 and iphone 4s
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Check iTunes on the computer you normally sync with. The app might still be there and you could sync it back onto your iPad mini. Then see if it still works on the most recent iPads.

  • Sincerely wondering what the point is in this 'upgrade'?

My trackpad is trashed (I know I can buy a new one) and I don't own an iPod, iPhone or iPad and have no plans to buy any in the foreseeable future although we wll probably be purchasing 2 more computers in the next year. I'm not real happy about the loss in services between Mobile Me and iCloud. Some of the features advertised with Lion look pretty cool but after reading all over the net the last 2 days I am becoming pretty ambivalent about doing the upgrade. It seems like it caters solely to those that have all the gadgets?
I my Mac, but I am not a computer whiz, programmer, etc. I don't know or care about codes and all that stuff. I went with Apple because I wanted a secure, simple, streamlined interface that allowed me to do the things I love and need to do. I bought at Tiger and just updated to Snow Leopard this winter. I've been very happy with it.
It just seems like the trade off isn't very good... losing a lot of function for a few bells and whistles? What do you actually gain with Lion? I don't want to have to piecemeal my computer experience and I kind of resent Apple forcing my hand. I understand that the world turns and I will have to decide about Lion and iCloud soon and am hoping that in my computer naivete that there is something I am missing? That it really isn't as bad as it seems?
What are the real changes going to be? Like iDisk. I don't even know what it does or how it works, I just know it works and my stuff is where I want it, when I want it. The loss of iWeb makes my head spin. And practically speaking, how is Lion/iCloud going to change iWork and iLife?
Please don't read any snarky into this, there is none. I'm just a regular person wanting to make a good decision while I've got the chance. I do appreciate any and all wisdom and/or technical tips you have to offer!
Just sign me, Eyes Glazed Over & Head Pounding

Thanks for responding Linc & Ana. I appreciate your time.
But just a few (more) questions...
Isn't iOS for the gadgets? Not trying to provoke or argue, just wondering how that enhances my Mac experience? And wondering still... For me, it seems that the only reason there is to 'upgrade' to Lion is to get the free iCloud service. But what is there about iCloud that would make one feel like it was worth the change? I know this is the Lion board but it seems that the two go hand in hand at this point.
The truth is, I would gladly continue to pay the $100 a year for the services I require and would prefer to do so for piece of mind.

  • Whats the point of iTunes media organization?

So after so many years not letting iTunes organize my music..I finally caved. So far its been nothing but one headache after another. I have a huge Music library that I've organized myself since I started it but people kept telling me I should let iTunes do all the work. However it still seems as though im doing all the work, so I've come the the conclusion that I MUST be doing something wrong, hence the reason I am here. My problems:
                                       1) Pointing to a location: I've gone into advanced settings and told iTunes to use my external hard drive. Disaster. All it did was create NEW folders within my already organized drive and filled them with the music that was located inside the iTunes Media Folder (the one that all our purchases go to)
                                       2) Duplicates: Basically all iTunes did was take a bunch of its folders and mix them in with a bunch of my folders which resulted in a cluster duck of a humongoid folder that doesnt know how to tie its own shoe. Now for most artists I have 2 or more folders that are the exact same. Except they aren't. They look the same but some are only decoys to make me click on them and realize they are empty. In some cases they have split music from one artist into two separate folders. I may have figured this one out though: Folder 'A' contains files from a specific artist that i have already added to  iTunes at some point whilst making playlists. Folder 'B' contains the rest from that artist that have never 'Linked to iTunes. Which brings me to my last frustration, or at least the last one i feel like talking about..
                                       3) Linking (drag and drop): So in order to get iTunes to recognize any music in any folder I cant just tell it to point to this folder or that folder, I have to 'Link' every song I own to iTunes, which defeats the entire purpose of me asking iTunes to do all this in the first place.
Any time put into reading this mess is appreciated. Any insight on how to not be such a noob with iTunes media organization is GREATLY appreciated.
              -Mikey
P.S. I am using iTunes 11.1.0.somethin or another. Windows 7

    Hi,
What do you mean by not recognised?
What is the icloud status of the tracks that have not been matched? In song list, Go to menu > view > view options and tick box. ICloud status tells you what has been "Matched", "Uploaded", "Purchased", "Inelligible", "Duplicate" or "Waiting".
Whilst a track is available in the Itunes store, it is not a guarantee that you will get a match. What is the source of the tracks and their bit rate/
