Transferring Purchases
Ok, so I was in the middle of transferring my purchases from my iPhone4 to my computer when iTunes for whatever reason closed out. The entire album is showing up but half of it is showing gray and I'm not able to click on the songs or play them on my computer. I've pressed the "transfer purchases" option several times since it closed out but thats no use.How can I fix this?
Go to the iTunes Store on your computer and see if you can re-download from the Purchases section.

When recently syncing my iPhone a message came up regarding transferring purchases or something.. In haste I pressed the wrong reply.. My phone synced, but removed all of the songs I purchased on my iPhone. Although they are still on my iTunes and I can play them.. but they will not sync back to the iPhone what so ever.. It's being a week that I called for assistance and no one called me back to help me with this matter even after I responded a survey with a complaint about not getting a resolution to my problem.
If you could please help me I will appreciate, I'm out of the country now and can't stay on the phone for a long time.
I need to sell my old phone but as right now besides all my bank statements the old phone is the only evidence that I purchased the songs. -
I have transferred purchases before and have had no problems but this time when i tranfsferred to another computer the most recent albums didi not transfer. I only realised this once I had gone through the erase and sync. I did not have a backup for these three albums yet. My purchases clearly state that I have bought all those albums. I don't even understand why this happened!
On the newer computer launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.

How do I transfer my iTunes library from my old computer to my new one? I have successfully transferred purchased music but not my library of CDs. Home sharing will not work, and isn't working in fact, as the computers will be in different countries.
Assuming your library is in the default location and all of the media is stored within the library's media folder then this is what you need to do:
Copy the entire iTunes folder from <User's Music> on the source computer to <User's Music> on the target computer.
You can do this directly over a network (making use of shared network folders) or by making a copy on an external drive, moving the drive between computers, and copying again. Any way that works is good. However if you say that you cannot use Home Sharing (doesn't work properly anyway) because the source and target are not on the same network then method 2 as I describe it won't work either.
Your playlists, play counts, ratings etc. are stored inside the database iTunes Library.itl which is inside the iTunes folder and a successful migration includes all of this information, not just the media files. I recommend method 1 from the earlier link as it sets you up with a backup mechanism to use in future. All hard drives fail eventually and often without warning, or at least a warning that is noticed and then heeded.
If the initial assumption is wrong, or you need help checking, just ask.

For a brief time when iPhone 4, iOS 4 came out, many of us ended up with two Apple IDs. I want to know if anyone can please provide me with simple step-by-step instructions on merging two Apple IDs into one? It would make transferring purchases on iTunes much easier and reliable. I realize i desperately need an iOS update, but i had no laptop for over two years! I'm posting a cry for help on that in another community. Thank you all.

Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs. -
My old ipod nano is recognised by my new MacBook Air, and even transferred purchases from it, but it won't synch?
When I linked it it used the name I had given the ipod so it seems strange that it won't synch even though it is definitely connected.See if this helps:

we transferred purchases and synced from a iPod touch to a toshiba laptop, after it updated and synced again we have been unable to put the files back onto the ipod. the computer will not let us drag or copy paste files, and when we tried to " export" the library to the documents folder, it only showed up in code. we have books and music we would like to reload to the ipod.

It sounds like you are unable to manually put your content back on your iPod Touch.
It seems like you may need to re enable Manually Manage Music now that the device has been updated, and this article should help with that.

How do I keep iTunes from automatically transferring purchases from my iPhone?
Well, earlier in the year I had a Hard Drive failure. After having it fixed not all my files where on my Mac, including my iTunes media. So I connect my iPhone and it asks me if I want to transfer purchases? I click yes, the transfer wnet fine but some old media transferd too. I didn't want it so I simply deleted it. But when I plug my iPhone in now, it automatically says transfering purchases from Alex's iPhone. I then clicked on the "X" to cancel the task. But how do I keep iTunes from automatically transferring the old material?

Transferring purchases from iPhone 3GS ?
iTunes 10.4 says my iPhone 3GS (iOS 4.3.3) has purchased items to transfer before I upgrade to 4.3.5. I click on File->Transfer Purchases, iTunes says "Transferring Purchases". I wait until it finishes and click 'Upgrade" again, but it still reports purchases need to be transferred; I ejected the phone and plugged it back in, but it still reports purchases need to be transferred. Any thoughts ? Any way to find out what purchases we're talking about ? Thanks.
Ignore it. If you're updating, nothing will be deleted from the phone. Assuming this is the computer you usually sync with, just do a full sync before updating.

ITunes hangs during sync "Transferring Purchases"
I can no longer sync my iPhone. It starts out OK and then says "Transferring Purchases from Joe's iPhone. Copying HoldEm".
It then shows abour 10% on the progress bar and sits there forever. I've tried everything I know but can't seem to get around this. Even unchecking "Sync applications" has no effect.
I am really getting fed up with Apple lately... This iPhone is extremely buggy (browser crashing, etc) - and I am an Apple fan!I had the same problem today and fixed it straight away with the suggested solution above - I just downloaded Texas Holdem on my computer through the apple iStore - it brought up a box saying that i already had bought it so I didn't have to pay again. It took quite a while (it's a large file) but once it was downloaded and I did the sync again there was no problem at all

Stuck while Transfering Purchases

I recently bought a new computer. I am trying to transfer my iTunes store
purchases from one computer to the other one via my iPod. I have had to do this
before.
For some reason, while I am transfering my purchases, it gets stuck on one of my TV show episodes. I have left it on for hours and this one TV Show episode will not transfer. Until this TV Show episode is transfered, none of my other songs and TV Shows will transfer. I have 154 other songs and TV Shows that have not been transfered yet because this one episode is stuck. About half of the content that was on my iPod is now in my iTunes library.
I have been given advice to set my iTunes to Manually manage music and videos so I may transfer each item individually over to my computer so that I can bypass that episode, and then try that episode individually to see if it works. I have set it to Manually manage music and videos, but I cannot figure out to how to individually transfer a single song or TV Show episode at a time.
ThanksI am having the same issue. Ihave transferred purchases (652 out of 724) from my iPod to my new computer. It then stops at one particular song. I have stopped and restarted the transfer 3 times and continues to be stuck on one song - ANY THOUGHTS!

Transferring purchases from ipod to itunes 8.0 hangs
I am trying to transfer purchases from my ipod to a new PC. I am using itunes 8.0 and the transfer starts but then hangs. The initial transfer is a movie from the ipod (perhaps relevant, perhaps not) .. any ideas ? is there a known issue with transfering purchased movies from the ipod to itunes ?
I throw my hands in the air, 446 U2 songs gone....gone where...who knows...why?...because i clicked one button in itunes to transfer purchases from ipod to pc...!!! Sorry I'm really really REALLY annoyed...I bought this back in February 2005...and now it's gone...I don't appear to be able to download it again, I can't even find it on the website....but there were other albums also gone...!

I searched HD for songs but no joy..heart breaking..to say the least..(regardless yeah I should have had a backup..) but the transfer should have transferred them somewhere...I guess.

Is it possible to update your ipad 2 to the latest software without backing it up or transferring purchases to another computer other then your own?
What iOS version are you on ? If 5+ then as I said, you can do it directly on the iPad via Settings > General > Software Update.
If you are on iOS 4 then you will need to connect to your computer's iTunes and transfer purchases and do a backup - updating to iOS 5+ from 4 or below will backup up the iPad, wipe the iPad, install iOS 5.1, and restore your backup and iTunes media content (if you don't transfer purchases and backup then that content will no longer be on the iPad after the update). ITunes 12 are not updating apps and transfering purchases
I really don't know why it is happening. I lost my old iTunes library on a Hard Drive crash. So, I created a new one. I connected my iPad, iPod and iPhone, transfered purchased on the first time, backup, sync... all things that we have to do. Then, I saw something strange. On iTunes 12.1.2.27, mine iTunes, I download new updates but they don't update the apps on my device. And if I download the updates on the devices, the iTunes is not transfering new updates and new apps too. Really don't know why that. Every update I have to do manually. Why that guys? Yosemite here too.
Here is a screenshot of the phenomenon/problem... NBC Nightly News is not updated, even both the computer and iTunes are running constanly. Once I click update podcast, the podcast updates, so there is an update available.

I had ITunes on a Dell laptop. I copied it all to a Compaq laptop via external hard drive. The Dell is deauthorized. The Compaq is authorized. My IPod Classic will not Sync on the Compaq. I have transferred purchases, but "Sync" is greyed out. How can I get the IPod to sync with the Compaq?
If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
The iPod should appear in the sidebar, under DEVICES. Select it there. To the right, its Summary screen is shown. Toward the top, there is a bar of buttons starting with Summary. Click on Music next to Summary. This Music screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs ot the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music. This is the switch to enable automatic syncing. If your iTunes music library fits on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library. Otherwise, you can choose to sync Select playlists, artists, albums, and genres. Then select what you want on the iPod from the lists below.
Click Apply to intiate automatic syncing between that iTunes library and your iPod (based on how the iPod's Music screen is set up in iTunes). -
I have down loaded songs and tv shows on my i phone 4s but i can remove them from my phone. I have transfered purchases and cun ticked sync music and tv shows but still i have the downloaded contenet on my phone. Please help
also must mention i have never had trouble that i couldn't fix on itunes but all of this has started since i have been using icloud for basic backups hope this helps solve problem
