Transferring Recorded Movies from MOXIE

I have cable tv which records and saves wanted programs (MOXIE). It, the converter, needs to be removed, and I want to keep and/or record saved data on my iMac G5. If there is any way to connect them together please let me know.
If not, I have an External Firewire CD Recorder--
1- will that do it?
2- If so, how do I connect it (via FireWire) without the iMac trying to start from it? Whenever it's connected and I restart, the computer tries to use that as a startup drive.

Sorry, but you cannot move a rental from an iPad to your computer. I don't know why that is the case, but it's not possible (the same applies to movies rented on an Apple TV).

The movie is from iTunes.   You would think that a download from iTunes to a MacBook could be watched on an HDTV using Apple TV without any headaches bit this does not appear to be the case.

  • I transferred home movies from VHS to DVD. How do I import the data into imovie.

I transferred home movies from VHS to DVD. I can open the data using the DVD Player but I cannot import data into imovie.  Any ideas?

Another option is to download the free app MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 here:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
After loading the DVD on your Mac, drag the icon onto Streamclip's window. From the menu choose File>Export to QuickTime then for Compression select the Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC). Adjust the quality slider from 50% to about 75% - that should give good quality at a reasonable file size. Leave other settings as they are and click on Make Movie. From the next box, choose a name for the file (it will be a .mov file) and a save location (say Desktop).
The saved .mov file can now be imported to an Event and edited if desired in iMovie.
Note that you may be asked to instal a file from Apple. It's named QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component for Mac OS X. It's priced at US$19.99 and is available from the US Apple Store here:

  • Transferring home movies from one computer to another

What is the best way to do this? I have about 500 video clips that I want to move from one computer to another. I've tried using the export function in iPhoto but all I get upon transfer is a single frame of the movie. I keep the files on an external HD but I can't find where they are stored. I see the iPhoto app to open but not the original files. Additionally, whenever I do locate these files, how can I get them transferred with the keywords assigned to them? TIA! Going from a MBP running 10.6.8 to a MBA running 10.8.2

I'm not sure you can assign keywords to a movie on export, as these are written to the exif metadata of a photo and most video has no such metadata.
You say you've tried the export function in iPhoto, but what settings have you used? Exporting with the Kind set to Original should yield the videos.

  • Cna a movie be ftored on sd card and played via camera card reader. i transfered my movie from itunes to sd card. i set up a new file renamed the movie to dscf ... name , it loaded tom ipad but ipad says it cannot open?

I am trying to store movies on sd card from traveling. I want to play movie from camera card reader.i transferred the movie to sd card, I change the name to DSCF... and put in new folder created by my camera. the movie loads to ipad just fine but the ipad wont open it. what am I missing or it it not possible?

In THEORY, you can. However there are a lot of hoops to jump through. And the last time I played with it was when my device was running iOS7.
You put the movie file on an SD card. Follow the naming convention. Give it a file name of 8 characters. Put it in a folder named DCIM.
You can't watch the movie off the SD card.  You have to import the movie onto your device (so you need plenty of free room) watch then delete.
What you may be running into is if those movies were downloaded from iTunes or some other source they may have digital rights management on them prohibiting you moving them around and watching them like you're trying to do.

  • Record Movie from Digital Camcorder and Audio Interface

I need to find an easy way to record from outboard audio and video equipment, keep it in sync and create a movie file like iMovie out of it. I have a Digital Camcorder I would like to use, and I have my mic interface and I would like to record from both of those at the same time, without needing to sync it together later. iMovie will let me do this, however it will only let me record audio from an outboard device, not video (or at least, not iMovie '08); it requires use of the internal camera. Does anyone know if iMovie 09 will do this, or another Apple program that will work? I'm also running Logic Studio so I have access to Logic and Soundtrack Pro.

With HD being the new standard, do you imagine that they might make QT able to acquire HD soon? Seems that since it plays HD, it should be able to acquire HD too. thanks for your help!

  • Transferring rental movies from one ATV to another

I have two Apple TV's (ATV) at home. When I rent movies on one of them, I'd like to be able to watch the same rented movie from the other. The ATV FAQ's note that if you rent a movie from the ATV, you can't transfer it. Is this true? If so, should I rent from directly iTunes on my Mac first, then transfer to the ATV's from there?? Thanks.

Thanks all. Seems an evolution of the software is required to make the rental feature a little more flexible. I'm in Canada, so looks like only non-HD movies for now

  • Record movie from Canon camcorder in high definition?

I would like for Quicktime Pro (7.6.2) to record high definition (HDV) video directly from my Canon Vixia HV30 camcorder via firewire. I noticed that QT will record regular DV when I switch the camcorder to the regular DV mode, and it recognizes the presence of the camcorder when the camcorder is set into HDV mode, but I won't record video (it gives the error msg "Recording failed because no data was received"). iMovie '08 will record video from the camera in either DV or HDV modes. Does anyone know a way to get QT to record high definition video from this camcorder? Is there a plug-in that might work? I have already installed Perian.
[My ultimate goal is to enable a third party program called LabChart to record HDV video, which uses Quicktime to capture video, while also recording data from the USB bus. This is why I can't just import HDV with iMovie, since it can't sync the video to signals coming in via USB}.

  • Transferring a movie from a dvd camcorder

I have purchased an analog converter called ADVC110 to try and burn a copy of my home movies which were recorded on my Sony DVD camcorder but the process seems to take forever and is using up all the memory on my i-mac, surely this cannot be right ? I am trying to do this via i-movie HD, each recording on my dvd camcorder is taking about 1 hr 12 mins and there are about 70 of them , can anyone help to make this quicker and easier ?

The ADVC 110 is an analogue to digital converter. The way it works is for your camcorder to play the DVD in real time just like you were watching it. The camcorder outputs an AV signal that the ADVC converts to DV on the fly.
Therefore it is hardly surprising that a DVD containing about 1hr 12mins of real time recording takes exactly that time to download to the computer by this method. The DV format produced by the ADVC is the same as that used by tape digital camcorders - either digital 8 or minidv. This takes a lot of memory - about 17 gig per hr.
Another way would be to copy the DVD contents direct to your hard drive from a DVD player. The size of these DVD movies will be a lot less than if in DV format but they cannot be utilised directly by imovie. They can, however be played by various other means. These can be converted by your computer to DV using various third party programs. The process is not easy and probably takes as long as your real time conversion using the ADVC. You will still be stuck with the large file size.
Do you need to edit all of your movies using the full features of imovie or do you just want to cut/crop? If so there are alternatives to imovie. Look on Versiontracker
Maybe it would be better to cut/crop your DVD (mpeg 2) footage before imovie conversion.

  • Transferring a movie from my Laptop to Apple TV

I have some .mp4 movies I want to tranfer from my PC to Apple TV. Whats the best way to do this? Could i use a memory stick? Thanks for any advice.

I am thinking of buying an Apple TV but not sure if it is worth it as I am between 2 homes at the moment with my MAC in one house and a Windows laptop in the other.
This may be a stupid question but if I sync all my movies and music etc etc to my Apple TV would I then be ablt to take it with me and have all my content available to play in my other house on my HD TV ?
So really I am not using it for streaming as such but using it as a media player with all my stuff on it?

  • Transferring files(movies) from my macbook to an external hard disk

    Hi,
can someone tell me how to transfer movie files to an external 1TB hard drive?

Your external drive is formatted NTFS which OS X can read from but not write to. You can either install third-party software on the Mac to enable writing to the drive or repartition and reformat the drive for exclusive use with the Mac. If you don't need to move files between a Mac and a PC, then I would recommend the latter solution.
    Tuxera NTFS 2012.3.2
NTFS for Mac OS X 9.5.3
    To repartition:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select the external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • Transferring a movie from iPad to laptop

I purchased a movie on my ipad but I cant get it to sync to the computer. It has always worked in the past with music and movies... any ideas...?

    Hi Finty2,
If the movie was purchased through the iTunes Store, you may want to try redownloading it from iTunes on your computer. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Canon SL1 DSLR: Setting for recording movies from a tripod

I plan to use a tripod to sometimes record a group of us during vacation and would like to know if the SL1 provides any type of movie recording start delay (like 2 or 10 seconds) and movie record time limit (like 2 minutes). - just enough time for me to get into the movie.  Are such features available on the Canon SL1?
If yes, what are the settings to set a movie recording start delay and movie recording time limit?
If no, what are the alternatives?
I know I can use the RC-6 remote control to turn recording on and off, but I was hoping I could do something with the built-in time delay as well.
    Checking and Thanks,
    Mike
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There are wireless remotes that can be used for this -- but I don't think you can set a delay timer like you can for still shots (and of course you'd still have to stop the recording when you're done.)
Since it's video, just start the clip rolling... and edit out the front later (since you probably want to edit your clips anyway.)
As for recording time limit... yes there are two limits.  The camera cannot record a single video clip (continuously) for more than 29 minutes 59 seconds.  In other words... 30 minutes is a hard limit.  This is political and NOT technical.  Via trade agreement, if a camera can record video for longer than 30 minutes then it must be classified as a "video" camera and tariffed at a higher rate.  If it is limited to recordings which are less than 30 minutes then it can be treated as a still camera so the tariffs are lower.  It's a silly restriction -- but imposed by the governments who negotiate these trade agreements.
The OTHER limit is the file-size and that is a technical limit although you're unlikely to run into it.  The memory card is formated as an MS-DOS FAT32 filesystem.  This is what allows the same memory card to be compatible for reading by a PC, or a Mac, or even a computer running Linux if you prefer... and they can all read the card without the need for any proprietary drivers (no licensing royalites come into play here).  BUT... the FAT32 filesystem maps out files in a way that limits the maximum size of a single file to 4GB. It is probably far more likely that you'll run into the 30 minute rule limit than the 4GB filesize limit.
