Transferring rented movies to ATV

I have rented a movie and it downloaded fine in iTunes. Now I want to transfer it to my ATV. I select my ATV in iTunes, click the movies tab, add my rented movie and click the move arrow. The movie appears in the ATV window and when I click apply or sync as the case may be, nothing happens. A brief display of the sync bar then nothing. Yes I am connected to the internet during this process. iTunes 8.0.2

you do know a rental can only exist on 1 device at any one time. you can't have it on multiple devices.
also you should not use the appletv as a storage device. it is not designed to do that, and you cannot retrieve data from it should things go wrong. your master data location should always be your itunes library on a pc/laptop.

  • Transferring rented movies

having trouble transferring rented movie from laptop to iPad.  error message says it is already downloaded to another device...but the ipad is the only device I have tried to download to.  Any ideas what could be causing this issue?

Yes, I too was surprised when I rented 2 movies to take on vacation and found out after the fact that my VIDEO iPod (5th gen.) isn't compatible. The stupidest thing I have EVER EVER heard of. What in the world did I buy a video iPod FOR?????
The worst part was when I called Apple (after about 30 minutes of searching and then going through endless amounts of transferring, listening to menus, etc. and trying like crazy to get a live person... thanks Apple.) and finally got a live person, I was told that my iPod was too old and that I couldn't be given any help with it unless I paid $29.95. Are you KIDDING???? I paid $300 for an iPod and can't get help with it a couple of years later??? At this point I am seeing stars I am so mad, the guy finally tells me that I can find the info online. Well, yeah, I am sure I could if I had all the time in the world because (please read the sarcasm here) their site and access to help is SO EASY TO USE. Finally after he realized how insanely mad I was he told me my iPod was not compatible.
I hate Apple. I hate the fact that they just don't care about their customers. And I hate even more that I have given them so much of my money in purchasing an iPod, buying movies, buying music, buying my son an iPod and recommending them to my friends that don't have one. I can honestly say that if I lose my iPod I will buy something else and will NEVER recommend Apple products to anyone I know.

  • Rented Movies from ATV to MacBook iTunes

How do I transfer rented movies from my ATV to my computer?

Pretty sure this can't be done. I think you can only sync purchased content from Apple TV back to a computer. When you rent a movie, Apple TV tells you that the movie can only be viewed on Apple TV.

  • Rented movie from atv back to computer

I read an article from apple insider that said you can't sync a movie from the apple tv to you computer. I spoke with an apple representative that said that is not true the movie will sync to the computer otherwise how could you put the movie onto your ipod and finish watching ?

Has anybody been able to watch a rental on Atv yet. I have tried twice and not been able. The first I started on Mac by mistake and the second sits waiting to transfer to Atv but I can't find the process to transfer. Got latest software on each. Am I waiting for this new (2 week) Atv update? Well I got 29 days left on my latest rental. So far Netflx by snail mail seems faster. I have had terrible download time with my DSL (average 7 hours) so far. Could be slow streams or DSL is too slow for movies, Anybody got download times with other modems?

  • Lost rented movie from iphone....

well, as you know, date & time changes randomly is known bug. I didn't know it caused to rented movie.
anyway, I just transferred rented movie (spider man 3) last night after watching 15 chapters. it said that I had 19 hours to expire at that time. this morning, I connected with itunes for podcast. then disconnected, suddenly time & date changed. I changed to correct time & date manually. went to video section, rented movie was totally disappeared!!! now I can't get it from nowhere.
of course, I sent feedback to apple. even I talked with guys in apple store. they have nothing to help me.
if the sudden time & date change causes rented movie time expiration, it should be really really big problem. Apple must fix this thing.
    what is your opinions?

Then you'll need to contact support for assistance my friend.

  • I'm unable to transfer rented movies to my device

In the online instructions, it says in iTunes, to select the device connected, go to Movies tab in the device dialog, then the rented movie should appear there with a 'Move' option.
I have the latest version of iTunes and an iPad 3. When my iPad is connected to iTunes, if I follow the directions provided online, no rented movies appear, and therefore, no 'Move' option appears either.
Has the process changed for transferring rented movies from a computer (Windows) to an HD movie compatible device (iPad 3)?
    I appreciate any help!

Geesh - all this information and no  one has any clue to this? Not even someone from Apple?
Can someone at least point me in the right direction?

  • I played a rented movie in my newly bought ATV, but when i wanted to watch a TV Series i got the "Authorization is Required" !! although i have successfully played a rented movie at first !! and when checking into iTunes i couldnt find the ATV??

The ATV2 or ATV3 (small black boxes) don't show up as devices in iTunes. If iTunes and the ATV's have Home sharing turned on for the same account - and are on the same network, the ATV should show up as an AirPlay target device in iTunes.
The rented movie - was this rented on the ATV or in iTunes?
The TV series - where are you trying to play this from? Is it in iTunes or via the 'TV Shows' menu in ATV... i.e streaming from iCloud?

  • How do I view a movie I rented and downloaded to my computer on my apple TV. The ATV is not seeing the rented movie in my shared itunes library? I can't seem to transfer the rental to the ATV from the computer!

How do I view a movie I rented and downloaded to my computer on my apple TV. The ATV is not seeing the rented movie in my shared itunes library? I can't seem to transfer the rental to the ATV from the computer!

    Dear friends,
Thank you for responding to my problem so promptly. Frankly, I did not expect to hear from people so soon! The fact is that as soon as I posted the question, I was shown a number of similar queries and managed to find the answer. I have to say it's not intuitive! I have an apple TV original version. Apparently I had the ATV on streaming and not syncing. Streaming does not allow you to stream a rental from your computer whereas you can sync and transfer the rental from the computer!
    Thanks again.

  • My ATV Won't  Authorize Rented Movies..please help...everything else works

I recently hooked up my ATV to my network (with an Ethernet cable not wireless). It worked great..allowed me to purchase music, purchase tv shows, and synced great with my iTunes on my mac book. I can browse YouTube, watch movie previews. The problem is when I rent a movie the ATV will allow me to rent the movie...iTunes charges my credit card..i can even download the movie but when I try to play the movie i get the message "Your Apple TV is not Authorized to play this content." I spent two hours on the phone with Tech support and emailed back and forth with iTunes support with no resolution. I really don't think anything is wrong with the ATV but who knows. I even hooked the ATV directly to my modem (Charter Cable is my ISP) and got the same results. Very frustrating. Has anyone else had similar problems with their ATV?

Same problem - any/all purchased content EXCEPT rented movies will play on our new Apple TV2.
We have latest updates, we've tried multiple iTunes accounts, we've deauthorized/authorized, unplugged, factory reset, re-downloaded, removed 'special characters' form our passwords, turned of wireless on the Airport extreme, double checked my location is USA and is my billing address (see below...) etc. etc. etc. Have spent HOURS on the phone with Apple to no avail - they offered to escalate to engineering which would take another 3-5 days. The folks on the phone are pleasant, but it's clear they really don't understand the DRM model or have any other options.
So, the l reason I post is this - of those who can play purchased content (so we know the network, their accounts, etc. are all valid) but can't play RENTED movies - what do we have in common? Why can we order, pay for, and download but not play rented content?
Here's some nits I can dream up might be issues - any patterns out there?
    * I'm using Verizon DSL
    * I'm using an Apple AirPort Extreme (I gave up on the strict NATing of our Sonic Wall which seemed to break movie previews of all things....)
    * We live in Washington DC (notably, not one of the 50 states - could it be that silly?)
    * I don't think the anyone is proxy'ing all my traffic (ala man-in-middle attack) but at this point, who knows?

  • Downloading rented movie from library to ATV

I rented a movie from itunes and downloaded it on my laptop. I have not watched the movie yet and I wanted to watch it on Apple TV (ATV). I open my itunes and it is listed on rented movies and gives me an option to "move" from library to ATV (only after I downloaded the new update), but it will not sync to the ATV. The syncing starts but then 10 sec later just returns to the orignal screen without transfer. Suggestions???

Only the newest iPods (Touch, iPhone, Classic, 3rd gen Nano) support rental movies. You've posted in the forum for a much older iPod, one that doesn't supprt videos of any kind. Which iPod do you actually have? When did you buy it?

I am unable to play a rented movie on my ATV 2. I get: An error occurred loading this content. Try again later. My ISP has the TCP 80 port blocked but the TCP 443 port open. My first gen. Apple TV  is OK.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I doubt port 80 is blocked, that port is used for http, which you might recognise as the basis for the world wide web.
The message you get can be as a result of an extremely slow Internet connection, you can test your connection speed using speednet.com, however more commonly it's a simple error that can be corrected by unplugging and restarting the Apple TV and/or restarting the router.
