Transferring Slick plug-ins. 10.3.9 - 10.5.6

I've just acquired my brand new iMac running OS 10.5.6 with iMovie '09. I want to transfer some Gee Three Slick plug-ins from my old computer which is OS10.3.9 running iMovie 4. Currently they reside in User/myname/Library/iMovie/Plug-ins. Can I just transfer these items across as they are...or are there any special tricks that I need to be aware of?
Ken W

Your very Welcome Ken, I was very annoyed after the release of I-Movie 7, with nothing in it. But continued to use I-Movie 6HD to use my plugins. I am now using both versions on the same Mac. I finally came to like the newer version for a quick movie, then upload to gallery and You Tube, very easy..I have also burned tons of dvd's with that version as well. At least the new version has some extra stuff in it. I have been watching discussions for any issues and now feel like I can install the new I-Life, which I will do now. If the plugins were still available to use with the last 2 versions I would be a truly happy camper, as would a lot of users. Enjoy, Ileen

  • Transferring GB plug-ins from computer to computer

I recently transferred all my Garage Band loops and plug-ins from my old G4 to my new iMac. Unfortunately the plug-ins don't work. I have copied the .au components to the Library> Audio> Plug-Ins> Components folder but no success with the plug-ins.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

they're probably all PowerPC plug-ins, and not "universal". PPC plug-ins will not work on an intel mac.

  • Transferring plug-ins

I just upgraded from Photoshop CS5 to CS6. None of my plug-ins transferred over to the new version. Is there an easy way to transfer plug-ins, or do they all have to be manually reinstalled?

Get the correct CS6 installers from the vendors. Transferring any plug-ins is ill-advised and will cause trouble.

How do I transfer plug ins from CS3 to CS 6?

You may want to re-download the plugins from where you bought them and install them fresh for CS6. Or at a minimum check to see if new CS6 versions are available. The underlying architecture changed for plug-ins when CS6 was released. Some developers had to re-write CS6 versions. Some may work, while others may have had to be updated to work with CS6.

  • Transferring plug-ins from PS CC to PS CC 2014

When downloaded Photoshop CC 2014 has not picked up the plug-ins present in Photoshop CC (Nick software, Focalblade, Noiseware etc). If I copy these programs in the Plug-in of Photoshop CC 2014 it stops working. What can I do?
    Thanks for the help.
    Giuseppe.

Try doing a reinstall to the 2014 plugins folder. Nik software shouldn't need activation, as licensed users get fully activated software, so moving the plugins should allow them to function. However, since you're not getting it to work a reinstall may be necessary. You could also try the support sites for the programs to verify that they're 2014 compatible.

  • Transferring Boris FS plug-ins from CS3 to CS4 - Mac OSX

I purchased Continuum Complete 5 AE for Mac OSX to use the plug-ins for my CS3 versions of After Effects and Premiere Pro. Now that I have CS4 versions of After Effects and Premiere Pro, how do transfer the plug-ins to work with the CS4 versions. According to Boris FX website, Continuum Complete is compatible for CS4, but it doesn't mention how to transfer the files. I've emailed them, but haven't heard back from them. Looking within the application folders of the CS3 versions, it doesn't look like it's a simple drag and drop into a plug-in folder. Being that I can't find the plug-ins within the application folder. Does anybody know how to do this?

What happens when you try to install the plugins to CS4?

How do I transfer plug-ins from CS6 to CC?

You don't. Sorry, that would be grade A stupid and get you in all kinds of trouble from compatibility issues to serious system crashes. Get the updated CC compatible versions from the plug-in vendors and install them properly.

  • Plug-Ins

I was so excited to buy, install, and open my imovie for the first time but my excitement was soon deflated. iMovie '08 is a horse of a different color to say the least and I like many other people who have bragged on the easy usage of previous iMovie versions. I will no longer have that option. That is not to say I won't like th new version I will just have to learn it all over again. My biggest issues are these.
    1. Not being able to import my old movies into the new program. Question-
Is it possible to take the new movies into the old version of iMovie?
    2. The missing audio tracks - I have run a video production afterschool tutoring class for 2nd grade through 5th grade students and I'm not sure they are going to be able to work with multiple programs with ease. At this point I probably will not upgrade the machines they use.
    3. Biggest issue - I have invested alot of money in extra plug-ins so that I have more options. iMovie '08 doesn't support them. I contacted the company I bought them from and they informed me that iMovie '08 doesn't support 3rd party plug-ins and asked me to contact Apple and ask them to upgrade '08 to allow this feature. How about it Apple? Upgrade or give me more transitions and title options.
I will reserve final review of the new iMovie until I have had a chance to "play" with it. Thank for any valid input I can get from anyone.

    Karsten,
Thanks for the update. I am sure it is for the reason I found, that whatever needs to be embedded in the application to allow plugins is not there.
I really think Apple has responded to all those who don't want to make complicated movies with special effects and just want a cool app that can take their movies and ready them for web use very quickly. iMovie 08 is terrific for that.
Look no further than its claim that you can easily store 'all' your movies in iM8, just as you do with your photos.
Now, the idea that you can store up to 250,000 photos in one library is good......huge capacity to put tons of photos in iPhoto.....but, that same thinking did not carry over to iMovie. To have all of my movies in an application would be terrific, but I have about 60 2-hour DVDs of my family's movies so far, and will eventually have over 100 of those, plus other movie and DVD footage.
Let's see.....each movie was about 25-35 GB; already up to over 3500GB! Even compressed, that seems quite unrealistic for me.....
If I use iMovie 08 to store just my video clips from my still camera, that will probably work great since those are short. Right now, they are stored in iPhoto, but I do want to use them in my movies.
I really love making my movies, and I have become adjusted to the foibles of iMovie 6--audio stutters, how its transitions work. It is a wonderful app and I can make terrific creative long movies with it. I love having all the Slick and cf/x plugins to offer me help with doing so.
I definitely am getting a cool new iMac....so I will get iLife 08 and use it all, just keep with iMovie 6 for most of my movies. I think I will really like the new iPhoto and iDVD. Haven't used Garage Band much, but maybe I will now. I think sending video/photos to iWeb looks much easier, so I am looking forward to playing with all these new apps.

    Bev

  • Plug-ins not showing up in Aperture 3.1

I have been using Aperture for a past few days, and when i tried to instal two plug-in programs (photoshelter - it is a photo hosting site and the plug in allows you to upload photos directly to the site, and HSC edit - this is an edit tool I downloaded from the Apple site). Neither of them show up in the menu of Aperture. I tried re-installing, but doesn't work. what could i be doing wrong?

    Frank,
I have a similar situation that you seem like you might understand.
I bought a new computer, started a new user (A), and downloaded Aperture. Then I realized it was easier to move the pictures from my old computer by transferring everything from that computer, creating another user (B) on my new computer. Since then I havent used user A at all, but now I can't access plug-ins for Aperture. Based on your posts above I checked user B and sure enough there are the plug-ins. I tried to repair permissions in the disk utility, and that didn't help. I restarted the program after each try.
Any idea of what I might try next?
On a separate note, I've been unhappy with this new macbook pro from the start, as compared to my old macbook, in terms of speed. Plus the battery life *****, which is a main reason i ditched the last one, no where near as advertised. Could an extraneous unnecessarily running/ partitioned in the background be creating any problems for speed or battery life? Or was dumping in everything from my old computer a bad idea?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

  • Third Party Plug Ins from old computer?

Before I ask my next question, I just want to thank everyone out there that take the time to help others on this board.
I have a non bootable drive from my old computer (just died last week, power supply) and I also have it's contents backed up on an external drive. I have so many third party plug ins for my iMovie on my old G5, but how can I get them on my new computer? Slick was nice enough to re-email me everything I have purchased through them. One Company's plug ins I used most is no longer in business. Do I have to kiss it goodbye or can I still get it into my new Pro Mac?
    Thanks, Beth

As long as you have a working drive, whether FireWire or something else, why not just connect it to your Mac Pro?
As to whether they will work, or cause trouble, that would have to be updated to Universal Binary or to work with current iMovie would be another matter and probably happen anyway.
Importing or migrating old powerppc applications and support files often cause problems and can be a "monkey wrench" effect. Reinstall is always best.
Going forward, always keep originals, burn to CD/DVD all your downloads and software purchases, even copies of your CDs.
If you have a list, or Google even might be able to resolve this.
The fact it isn't bootable you should be able to copy or recover files. You just don't want to use Migration Assistant for applications, even if it sees the drives and could.

  • CS6 New iMac non-recognized plug-ins issue.

I have a brand new iMac and when I started using CS6 (transferred from my time machine back up), it was fine for a few days until inDesign started telling me various plugi-ins were not recognized. I had to uninstall, then re-install and it seemed fine for a few days, then started to give me the same non-recognized plu-ins error messages again. What gives? Any suggestions? Think it could be a Mountain Lion issue not an Adobe issue?

What else did you migrate over? There's no telling what you danaged that way.
That said, can you post screenshots of the error messages? Something might just stand out that would let us help you.

  • Will PSE3 Third Party Plug-Ins Work On My New iMac ?

Over the past 5+ years I have accumulated quite a few third party plug-ins for both PSE2 and PSE3 running on my Apple eMac G4.
I will shortly be taking delivery of a new Intel based iMac,and whilst previous posts on this forum show that I can run PSE3 on the new machine, what about the third party plug-ins ?
I will be installing PSE3 on the iMac using the original discs, and, if I can use them,do I just 'migrate' the plug-ins using the Apple Migration Assistant - or what ?

It depends. Some can be transferred that way, but some require their own installer.
EDIT If you have the installer, use it. If not, you won't be any worse off if you try manually moving them. Incidentally, I'm assuming you're talking about true plug-ins (.plugin files) and not about actions and such, which can be moved, but go to very different places in PSE 6.

    Hi
LPX only supports 64bit Audio Unit plugins. You probably need to get the latest updates for all of your plugs.
Some plugs are not currently available as 64bit versions: you may want to try

  • Lightroom 5 catalog. Retrieving user presets and plug-ins.

Got a new Macbook Pro, and all my data from my old Macbook is on my new hard-drive. I transferred my old Lightroom 5 catalog on my new Macbook and when I tried to open it, none of my User Presets nor Plug-ins such as; VSCO were there. How can I get these back? Thanks

Presets are found in your user Library folder. You'll need to open Finder, and click Go, then hold down the Option key to enable "Library" in the menu. Click Library, then follow the path:
    /users/yourname/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/
Within this folder, you'll find subfolders with all your presets and templates. Copying folder by folder is the best way to make sure you get everything you need. Make sure you keep the presets and templates within the exact same folders on the new machine.
Plugins are best migrated by re-installing.

  • Plug-ins from CS4 to CS5?

Best way to have the plug-ins transferred to CS5 from CS4?

You can actually create a second copy of the application icon to run in 32-bit mode.  Just right-click on the application icon, select Copy, then right-click inside the CS5 folder and select Paste.  Rename it to "Photoshop CS5 32" or whatever you like, and then hit Cmd-i and check the "Open in 32-bit mode" box.  The new application will complain that it's been moved when you launch it - just click "Do Not Update" and it will open in 32-bit mode (you can see the x32 in the splash screen), and all of your old plugins will be available if you copied them over.
I wanted to do this so that, when I don't need 3rd-party plugins (I don't use that many), I can launch in 64-bit mode without having to constantly switch back and forth.  It's particularly handy for launching from Lightroom - if I want to do a lens correction that's not in LR yet (and not in PS CS5 until the Camera Raw 6.1 update hits, but that's another story) I can do an "Edit in" that doesn't load plugins and works in 64-bit mode, but when I want to use Viveza, Noiseware, or the Topaz plugins, I can set up a separate "Edit in" pref to launch the 32-bit version.
