Transferring songs from PC to Itunes. HELP!
I put songs from PC files onto a flash drive and put them into the Itunes Library. It looked like it worked fine until I tried to click and drag them to a Playlist. For about half the songs, an exclaimation point appers next to the song and I get a message that says "This song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" When I click "Locate", it opens the main computer file window. At that point I'm lost. Is there an easier way to get these songs to work?? Why do some of them work fine??
There is a good general guide to switching from Windows to Mac at the following link that touches on moving music as well How to Move to a Mac - Get your stuff from your PC to your new Mac

Don't forget by the way if you have purchased any tracks from the iTunes Music Store to deauthorise your old PC if you are disposing of it so you don't use up your 5 allowances: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

I DESPERATLY NEED HELP TRANSFERING SONGS FROM IPOD TO ITUNES LIBRARY
hi my computer crashed downstairs and i need help moving all my songs from my ipod to my itunes library, on the other computer...will someone please help me?
Hello Markatkis,
Make sure your not connecting it to more than one PC. A new iPOd is set to "Auto Update" by default. With this setting all you do is plug the iPOd into the PC and iTUnes automaticly opens, loads all the songs it has listed in iTunes to the iPod, and after its done, ejects the iPOd.
If you connect it to another PC tho with iTUnes on it you usually get a promtp that in short says "iPOd library linked to another PC, do you want to link to this one" if you click yes, it wipes the iPOd clean and loads only whats on that PC.
Since your new to all of this a great place for you may be the "iPod 101" site. It will show you all the bacis ropes of using your iPOd, using iTUnes, and using them both together. http://www.apple.com/support/ipod101/ -
Transferring songs from ipod to itunes on computer
I recently loaded songs from a CD onto my portable computer.
I then transferred these to my ipod.
I am unable to simply transfer these from my ipod onto my main computer.
Suggestions?Because the computer to iPod transfer is, by design, one-way with the exception of being able to transfer your iTunes purchased content back to a computer off the iPod.
If you want to be able to move songs from one computer to another, then you may want to "Enable disk mode" on your iPod, which will allow the Nano to be used as a standard external drive. Now drag the songs into that part of the iPod (the disk side, rather than the music player side via iTunes). Then on your other computer, you can drag them off the disk mode side of the Nano into your iTunes library there. Much like you would do with a normal external hard drive or USB flash drive.

Transferring songs from ipod to itunes
my old computer with all of my songs are fried. I only have the songs on my ipod. Just got a new Macbook. How do i transfer songs from my ipod to a new itunes library without wiping it out?
Definitely a good idea to have a backup, but obviously that's not the case for you!
There are third-party software applications for transferring ipod music to your computer, and they cost about what three albums would on the iTunes store.
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link. -
Transfering songs from iPod to iTunes
Hi, i just restored my computer and now I want to know how to put my songs from my iPod back on my computer.
There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod. This is just a selection.
Senuti Mac Only
YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
PodPlayer Windows Only
iPodAgent Windows Only
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive posted in this thread: iPod to iTunes
You may already be using the iPod in manual update mode. However when you connect, if you are getting a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, click *No*. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list. Change the update setting in Preferences>iPod to "manually manage songs and playlists" Managing Your Songs Manually
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys, on Windows, hold down Shift + Ctrl. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box.
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. -

Ok so I'm having a bit of trouble. I have had my iPod for a while. Longer than my laptop. So I haven't been able to put songs from my nano to my library.
However, now it's bugging me.
Can anyone tell me how to do this. I would greatly appreciate it.There are quite a few links in that topic. I don't know which methods you tried.

temigurlIf you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
Comparison of iPod managers
TuneJack Windows Only
iPod2PC Windows Only
iGadget Windows Only
iDump Windows Only
SharePod Windows Only
iPodRip Mac & Windows
YamiPod Mac and Windows
Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
One last thing, if your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7.3 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that way you can continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed above your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever retrieval method you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay. -
My old computer crashed. Trying to recover music from iPod. Can transfer music, but not song titles. Titles appear in 4letter mpg formats. What am I doing wrong?
Provided the files were properly tagged then iTunes should pick up the data when the files are imported into the library. The main problem is usually any files in .wav format.
See also Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. You seem to be most of the way there already but there are a couple of scripts mentioned near the end which you could use to recover ratings & playlists.

Can anyone help transfer songs from itouch to itunes?
Can anyone help transfer songs from itouch to itunes?
Stupidly I deleted all my music from my laptops music folder: I was doing a spring clean and wrongly thought that all the music was duplicated stored in itunes itself.
Anyway I have all my music on my ipod touch I need now to reverse sync this music back to my itunes.
I know that the solution is to transfer from my itouch>my laptop>my itunes library.
The problem I have is that my computer is not recognising my itouch; it is however showing up in the itunes programme, but not under my computer.
Does anyone know how I should proceed.Try uninstalling iTunes from your computer, then re-installing it. Then once loaded back on (it still won't have your songs), click on the iTunes Store and log in. Then plug in your iPod, then right-click it on the bar on the left side of the screen, then click "Transfer Purchases". It then should sync all of your songs, movies, TV shows, and Apps to your computer.
Hope this helps. -
Transfering songs from iphone into empty itunes library
I have a desktop which has my itunes library and then I have a laptop with an empty itunes library. The songs from my desktop itunes is on my iphone. Can i get the songs from my iphone into the empty library on my laptop?
Hi! Welcome to Apple Discussions Forum.
If you have purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store, then those are pretty easy to transfer to your computer. You'll just need to follow [this instructions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305465].
All your other songs (for example, those ripped from your CD's), you'll need to use any 3rd party program to transfer them to your iTunes library!
Some can also transfer your playlists, videos, ratings, podcast...

How can I transfer songs from Ipod to Itunes library?
I recently lost my entire Itunes library but still had songs on my Ipod. Now when I try to rebuild my library by transferring songs FROM my Ipod TO the Itunes library, I am unable to. There are a million help subjects of how to transfer your songs from the library to the ipod but none about how to transfer them back and I can't figure it out. Please help!
Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod

i have windows 7 and a2nd gen ipod touch and i just aquired an ipod classic which is a 5th gen from 2005 with a 30 gb capacity. can i download a video movie or episode and songs from the current itunes i use for my ipod touch or is there a different one i should use? please help.
You can plug the iPod into the same iTunes library as your iPod Touch and sync whatever content you like to it. There is no limilt to the number of iPads, iPhones, or iPods you can sync with one iTunes library, account, or computer. How you sync one device will not affect the syncing preferences of the other.
