Transferring songs to different Mac

My grand-daughter downloads songs from the itunes music store on my computer. She burns them to CD and can play them on her computer but can't import them into her computer with the appropriate name, artists, album description information. Is there a way of transferring her songs to her computer while preserving the descriptive information?

I'm guessing she's burning either audio or MP3 CDs... have her try burning the files as data CDs (change the setting in iTunes preferences under "Advenced > Burning"). These won't play in some CD players, but should preserve the info and play fine on a computer.

  • ITunes won't open after transferring songs from old Mac.

I recently got a new MacBook Pro and used my external HD to copy and paste my songs from my old computer to the new one. It seemed to work immediately, but ever since I closed iTunes after the transfer, I cannot open the application at all. What I get is this error message:
I've tried to re-install iTunes; that made no difference. I looked into Finder to see if my files were still there, and there was no change. All of the songs play if I open them in Quicktime, but I get the same error message as above if I try to open them in iTunes.
Let me know if anyone knows what to do here. Thanks in advance!

    Hi, mbuco12.
Thank you for the question.  This sounds like you will need to rebuild your iTunes library file.  Below, I have included the article that walks you through this process.  Start with the section labeled Re-creating the iTunes Library file.

Transferring Songs(30GB) in My Mac's HardDisk To My Friend PC's Hard Disk?
what are the cable and software I need?

Mac will read drives formatted as FAT32, you could use any USB drive formatted on PC - then just copy over MP3s from your Mac, connect the drive to PC and copy the files again.

    Hi Dennis!
I have a couple of steps for you to try in order to get those songs transferred to your iPod touch. First, make sure all of your software is updated with the latest versions. If the songs were downloaded from iTunes, you will also want to delete the songs from your library and then download them again from the list of past purchases on your iTunes account. An article about doing that can be found here:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
If you try a sync after those two steps and are still seeing the issue, then I would like you to try syncing the iPod by setting it to manually manage. An article outlining more information on manually managing your iPod sync can be found here:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1535
If you are still having issues after that, I have another article that can outline some other reasons why your songs may not transfer to your iPod, and it can be found here:

  • 10.4.8 - Six different Macs all with problems since the update...

We run a business which has six different Macs... all relatively new (3 yrs). Typically we run the auto updates, because that's what we're supposed to do, and we experience little if any problems.
This last update (10.4.8) has caused nothing but problems - little system hickups here and there. Programs hang. Strange screen anomolies. Laptop trackpad issues (clicks and selections when none were made). I have to say that if Apple is going the way of the Windows machine I'm not impressed - at all. Consider thoroughly test your updates before releasing them on your loyal client base. Seems like a simple concept.
Is there anything that can be done to limit the impact of the recent update. Backtracking to the last version is not an option, although setting up the system to allow for this will become a part of our workflow in the immediate future.

Started having problems with my Imac first power supply (replaced under warranty), then HD/Boot issue. I ran disk repair and was advised by support to try to do an immediate backup (purchase external HD) and reinstall OS from CDs. Although I purchased an external firewire HD that day, my HD failed the next day (unable to backup onto new Glyph in time) so I lost EVERYTHING.
I investigated data recovery options, but just waaay too expensive. So yes, there's nothing like a good backup plan. Lesson learned.
Today (after a nightmarish struggle to get the computer repaired--different issue) I finally got my computer back with a new HD and logic board.
So, I rushed home to start reinstalling OS and software. First installed original OS X Panther disks which incl Garageband, no problems (also set up internet to try to register all software), checked for firmware update (none), ran software updates, rebooted). Then I installed OSX Tiger (ran software update...10.4.8, etc, ), started Garageband new song one track piano (using an M-audio keyboard controller i had hooked up but had not yet installed the software drivers) and it worked! Very cool. everything was time-consuming but seemed to be working fine (and why wouldn't it on a brand new HD with all software installed via CD and all updates recommended by Apple?)
Then, I decided I would next install the GarageBand JamPack CD (before attempting to tackle external HD setup, Pro Tools, synths, etc). So, I saved the "testsong" when closing and received error "Gband unexpectedly quit" and it stopped responding (spinning color wheel). After a few minutes I was able to force quit the application (really didn't think anything of it). Then I rebooted (since it did crash, I did go back and look for a possible software update but said I was up to date).
I tried to install Gband Jam Pack (1) failed about 95% of the way through while I was trying to complete product registration online. Then I rebooted, tried again failed (during which my internet also stopped responding). I had to then reset the wireless router and cable modem, looked for help online and rebooted.
I then ran repair disk permissions (it looked like it did a few updates but I did not see any alarming "errors" flash across the screen). I rebooted and tried to install JamPack again, failed, and rebooted (and looked online for another suggestion).
removed folder: application support/gband/loops/Gband Jampack/ folder into trash then tried to install jampack again, failed, and rebooted.
removed folder again, ran repair disk utility (did not look like it made any updates or report any errors), rebooted. Tried to install again and failed and rebooted, emptied trash and rebooted again.
I am now running repair disk utility one more time (10 solid hours into the software installation process ....my internet just stopped responding again so I apparently have to reset the wireless router again just before trying to send this message). I will run repair one more time, and completely power off computer for a couple of hours while I grab some sleep before work.
But, now I am seeing all these SCARY stories about the 10.4.8 update I just installed?!.
Are these problems related? Can someone please help me? Surely it cannot be this difficult. Thank you!

  • How do I sync my existing iPhone to a different Mac?

I have an iPhone 3G loaded w/ apps, playlists, etc. that is currently synced to my work Macbook. My Macbook has a LOT of apps, many which aren't on my iPhone, only synced as needed.
I want to keep the apps and sync it with my Mac Mini at home. I am willing to lose the calendar and contacts. I probably don't have a simple way to keep the playlists, since each iTunes library accesses songs from different server addresses as well. Mostly I want to keep the apps.
1What's the best way to sync it to Mac Mini and maintain that same app library from my Macbook?

If you use the same iTunes account with iTunes on each computer, you can transfer your iTunes library from your MacBook to your Mac Mini - the iTunes named folder located in the Music folder. This will retain all iTunes content including 3rd party apps.
If your iTunes library on your Mac Mini includes any content, this will erase and replace it.

  • I want to sync the songs on my Mac to my iPod, but it says An iPod can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPod with the contents of this iTunes library.' Will this reset my iPod completely?

Was your iPod associated with a different mac or pc previously is all. And was it backed up or sync'd on this mac with iTunes previously.

  • When I sync iphone to itunes, why do my soundtracks not show as albums but via artist?  IE: Pulp Fiction has 16 songs by different artists.  In itunes I can pull up pulp fiction and play the 16 songs.  In iphone sync the 16 songs are seperate

When I sync iphone to itunes, why do my soundtracks not show as albums but via artist?  IE: Pulp Fiction has 16 songs by different artists.  In itunes I can pull up pulp fiction and play the 16 songs.  In iphone sync the 16 songs are seperate and listed by Al Green, cowboy junkies etc... How to fix this so the ipod part of my iphone will show & play the soundtracks as albums... thanks.

What is selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?
If you have chosen selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres - if Pulp Fiction is available under the Albums section to be selected as an Album to be transferred to your iPhone, is it selected?
If so, when you select Albums via the iPod on your iPhone, the album is not available there to select?
You can always create an iTunes playlist with these songs placing the songs in your preferred order.

  • HT201616 Multiple versions of same song by different artists

iTunes used to have a feature where you can view multiple versions of the same song by different artists. Is there still a way to do this without having to search through the entire iTunes store? That way takes forever and I have to sample tracks that are completely unrelated, but just happen to have the same title. Why in the world would the dumb iTunes geeks take this feature away. Someone please help. Thanks!

Have not been in ITUNES Store in quite awhile but
If it was a function, it would rely on the person or persons who authored the song to insure you did get the same lyrics so to speak.
So, if you didn't know the artist you wanted - or the authors of the song - you would have to sample them until you hit the correct one.
Itunes did grow over time - and if they did have cross reference by authors they may have removed it - on the other hand like searches may have worked because of a limited database at the time - it did seem to start adding songs based on searches that brought up nothing one time - and a month later there they were.
ITUNES has over time added restrictions - for instance at some point - you had to allow this computer on Itunes in order to have itunes synchronize to an IPOD (I purchased about 6 songs on old mac - after migration synchronized fine until they stopped - finally mac allowed more than one device so I could add this one and synchronization started again).

  • Transferring songs to ipod touch issue... help!

I have a G4 with Leopard - just got the touch - and 80% of the time, when transferring songs over from itunes, it says "incomplete - ipod is not connected" - but it is.
    Drives me nuts!
To get it working, i usually have to reset my mac - then i'll get a few more songs (12-15) before it does it again....
    What's up?

    Ps...
The reason why i havn't switched, and gotten a usb pci 2.0 card, is because i've heard of non stop issues with sleep mode on the G4's that have upgraded to these cards.
I was planning on going into a mac store in early january to look into this exact issue.
Any of your suggested PCI cards not have that issue?
