Transferring Sony Handycam to Mac

How can I transfer (USB) my SONY Handycam video to my Mac? I have read that if it isn't firewire (and it isn't) then it isn't going to happen. Thanks!

Of the hundreds of different models that Sony has called "handycam" over the years, which particular model is the one you're using. What video format does it record and to what media?

  • How do I dump videos from Sony handycam onto Mac?

Just purchased a Sony Handycam. Seems I am unable to dump video onto my macbook pro.
It's not a new macbook pro, but I upgraded my OS a few months ago to 10.6.8.
Any advice? Though this would be easy. Not so much.

What have you tried, and exactly what happened?

  • Sony Handycam and Mac - how to get working?

My Macbook does not recognise the Sony - any ideas?

Yes, you definitely need to use FireWire for tape based cameras, such as miniDV. iMovie will not work with USB when connecting these cameras. USB is only used for hard drive and memory card cameras. You need either a 6 pin to 4 pin cable or a 9 pin to 4 pin cable, depending on whether your Mac has FireWire 400 or FireWire 800 respectively.

  • Sony handycam video camera upload trouble

I recently got a sony handycam, but mac doesn't support the program it comes with to upload videos, does anyone know what I can do so I can upload my videos onto my macbook pro?

You do not need the cams software to transfer your files.  If your cam did not come w/USB connecting cables (read your user manual), then what I suggested previously will work.

  • Sony Handycam DCR-SR46 + my MAC

I just shot a short film on my new Sony Handycam DCR-SR46. When I connected the USB to my mac it didn't even show up. So I connected my Handycam to a PC then transfered to MPGs to my mac. Now the MPGs I transferred from my PC have no audio on them.
I need help getting my film out of my Sony Handycam with the audio.
Note: It plays with sound when on a PC. The sound only disappears when I play it on my mac.
    Thanks.

I've searched for "mpegstreamclip" on versiontracker like you suggested and got the following:
    DVDxDV 1.36
extract audio/video from DVDs to QuickTime, iPod & more 2.0M Shareware 2008-05-09 701
    DVDxDV Pro 1.087
convert DVDs to QuickTime, iPod, Final Cut, iMovie, iDVD
which is the right one to download?
    thanks again.

    tyler57,
it would be better to direct that question to Gary Loftis, since my MacBook Pro doesn’t have a Thunderbolt port.

  • Mac OS9 Driver for Sony Handycam DVD-DCR100

I recently purchased an iMAC and want to start making movies with my Sony Handycam (USB device, no firewire). The apple support team directed me to the Sony support site to get a driver. Sony wanted me to pay for the driver and did not indicate if the driver was for Mac OS or not. I'm stuck. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I would appreciate it.

I purchased a Sony Handycam Camcorder (DCR-SR82) and have a MacBook. I had recorded several videos and was anxious to transfer them on to my computer and then burn DVDs. I opened the camera box to find that the software provided with the Sony Handycam is for PCs only---there is no Mac installation disk. So, I began doing research and with some major help from a Mac genius, was able to get it all ironed out. My mission is to spread the word so that no one feels the need to return their Sony Handycam just because they are Mac owners! The first step is to make sure that the processor on your Mac is Intel, as I believe that is one of the requirements for all of this to work. Second is to buy iLife '08, which is around $80. Next, you can import your videos into iMovie without any difficulty and enjoy all of the editing features that iMovie provides. Once you have imported your movies, you can open iDVD and burn DVDs without difficulty. If you have an external DVD burner, which I do, you need to download one program which is free and is called Patchburn. This program will enable iDVD to recognize an external DVD burner. Then, you are all set to enjoy your Sony Handycam + all of the joy of editing movies with your Mac. Have fun!

  • Transferring VOB files ex Sony Handycam DVD

    OK it's my turn.
I bought the newer model HD Sony Handycam- you know, the one that likes mini 8cm. DVD discs. Great camera- when I learn how to use it properly.
The BIG problem is- how do I transfer the VOB files on the 8cm. DVD disks to iMovie ??? APPLE, in their wisdom, don't allow dubbing of VOB files- illegally copying of commercial DVDs.
I have use SnapzProX to get around this- with limited success. I lose High Definition as I can't get a high bitrate HD requires. When I try, I get stuttering and intermittent sound loss if I try to GRAB at full picture size- "slow" eMac ?
PS can somebody try this method on a "super" dual Mac ?
Well, I have tried MOST of the utilities that convert VOB and VIDEO_TS to some QT file- all either give unacceptable "streaking" and/or video-sound not synchronised! So dimiss ExportToQT,Handbrake. MPEG Streamclip and even VLC (plays excellently, impossible to SAVE QT file) and a few others that I gave up months ago !

  • How to transfer video files from Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 to Mac?

How do i transfer video files from a Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 to Mac?

First suggestion would be to read your manual that came with the camea for proper cable use for transfer.  The iMac has a FW800 port and also USB2.0 port.  Once connected you can import them into iMove and edit them from there.  Some Sony codecs may require converting.
Firewire Cable is first needful thing.

  • Sony Handycam Mpeg2 won't work on Mac

    Hello
I am hoping you can help me as I recently upgraded to Lion and I can't get my videos from my camcorder to work on my Mac. I have a Sony Handycam DCR-SR100 and before the upgrade (when I had Snow Leopard) I was able to import my vidoes (I think they are mpeg 2) to iMovie and have them look and sound just fine.
But I had issues with my laptop overheating (unrealted to my camera) so the Apple store wiped my laptop clean.  When I got it back I upgraded to Lion and slowly put my system back together. I just tried to use iMovie to view my vidoes on my laptop (from the camera).  I can see them but I can't hear them (there is no audio).
Quicktime won't even recognize them. It's telling me that the files are not supported.
I am running OS 10.7.4 and Quicktime player 10.1
Any help you can provide would be wonderful! I really want to be able to see AND hear my videos on my Mac and I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it!
    Thanks
    Alison

Sorry, I should have checked before I answered. Apple lists these camcorders as compatible with imovie...
I don't know why your camcorder no longer works.

  • Having trouble loading Sony Handycam DCR-SX41 onto my MAC

I have a Sony Handycam DCR SX41 digital video camera.  When I plug it in to get the videos onto my MAC, it says it is not compatable.  This is a fairly new camera.  Any suggestions.

I am not sure, i just purchased this camera and i am also having some difficulties loading video. I believe some of the other posts that i have read mention something about "Mpegstreamclip" which when you use that to transfer your video it will enhance the quality. If you do a search in the discussions for "dcr-sx41" you will find more info on that. Sorry i couldnt be a bigger help, i am having a lot of problems myself

  • Connecting Sony Handycam CCD-TRV57 to Mac

Okay, so someone wants me to put their video footage on a DVD for them...
The camcorder is an 8mm Sony Handycam model CCD-TRV57... I looked in the product guide that came with the camera, and it says that I need a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire/IEEE cable to connect it (but that I should check the PC, in this case, Mac for compatibility)...
So I did that, and of course my MacBook Pro has a 6-pin firewire... Great, right?
Wrong... because I cannot, for the life of me, find where to connect it on the CAMERA... Others have looked at it as well, with no luck... is it possible that this model isn't compatible?
And if it's not, CAN I, or HOW do I connect it to my computer... I've found the Audio and video jacks for hooking it up to the TV, no problem, but I absolutely can't see any other jacks...
    Help please!!

I don't know this camera, but from a quick search on Google (...right?) it turns out that this camera is analog, and doesn't have FW OUT. I'm not sure why the product guide that comes with the camera says the opposite: see also the CCD-TRV57 manuals.
Than the only way is to use a A/D converter or another digital MiniDV camera with DV/Firewire/iLink connector to use as A/D converter: then you can connect the analog output of the CCD-TRV57 to the analog input of the converter/digital-camera, and then the DV/Firewire/iLink of the converter/digital-camera to the firewire (6-pin) of your Mac.
If you don't use a converter, make sure you use a MiniDV camera, which always have (as far as know) a 4-pin firewire connector. Other HDD or DVD digital cameras do not have firewire. In addition it's quite convenient to use a camera with pass-through functionality from analog to DV; otherwise you'll have to first record the analog input to MiniDV tape and then play it back to the Mac: possible, no loss of quality but it takes a double time.
    Piero
BTW: if you don't need to edit the video (using iMovie or FCE/FCP) you can also use a consumer DVD recorder to connect directly to the analog camera output.

  • How to transfer a Sony handycam dvd footage to mac?

    Hey Folks,
My friend from Florida just sent me a DVD of some footage he would like me to edit - now I thought he actually sent me a DVD but it ended up being a small mini dvd disk for a Sony HandyCam. Now Im left with figuring it out how can I get this into my mac - it's very small I don't want to insert it into the DVD drive incase it screws it up. So let me know what to do here is a snapshot of the DVD i got so you can see what i mean. I put my hand in the image to show you how small the DVD is and hoping someone on here would know what to do it's the size of my palm (and I big person or anything).

    my best,
    Joey Dee

I've had to do this a couple of times. The first time I did it the convoluted way. Still have an old G4 with a tray-loading DVD drive. So I put the DVD in that. Copied the Video_TS file to my current computer (17"MBP) where the application DVDXDV resides and used that to convert to QuickTime DV-NTSC or DV-PAL in your case, since I don't like working with MP4 in Final Cut.
The last time I did this, I simply put the miniDVD in my $25 Cyberhome DVD player, ran S-video and RCA audio cables to my DSR-11 as a thru device and did Capture Now while playing back the DVD. I used DV-NTSC coded again in FCP and the quality was actually very good.
If I had to do it again, I'd do it the second way, with a consumer DVD player and setting some kind of analog to digital transfer.
P.S. The first time, before resorting to the old G4, I had the miniDVD jammed inside my 17" PowerBook for an hour before I managed to get it out...not recommended.

  • Sony Bridge for Mac not transferring all music

Hello I am experiencing a problem with transferring music from my Mac to my Xperia T. For some reason some of my music is "grayed out" in Bridge for Mac whilst others appear a more light font colour which I am able to drag and drop to sync to my Xperia phone. I have tried putting my music into a playlist in itunes which bridge for mac seems to detect and sync however when i go into my phone and access the playlist it says "no content available" any idea why this is? It's not DRM related because some of the music are my own productions and other DRM free files. I have also tried moving my music into the folders in which my available music is stored and that too does not work. Any help? Can't seem to find anything about this online. I am using Bridge for Mac version 3.4 thanks

Hi Iksdt! I have been in contact with the development crew now. It's a known problem. Can you please give me the filenames of the songs. It will also be relay good if you can send me the log-file.
Here’s how to get error logs from Sony Bridge for Mac:
    1. In BfM, hold the "alt" key down while selecting the "Phone" menu. Select "Clear logs" to remove all old logs and get a clean start
    2. Reproduce the problem you're having, whether it's connecting the phone, importing photos, doing backup...
    3. In BfM, hold the "alt" key down while selecting the ”Xperia” menu. Select "Export logs"
    4. On the computers desktop there should now be a file named "SonyBridgeForMacLogs_[date].zip
    5. PM a shared dropbox link to me with the file. Best regards Fredrik
