Transferring & syncing

my ipod is full of content loaded on from my old computer, and have since recently got a new computer.
i understand i cant transfer the songs from my ipod to the new computer but am i able to transfer new songs (both loaded and purchased) to my ipod from my new computer without erasing my ipods current contents?
(my cds got stolen and dont want to lose it all)
thanks

As long as all your old computer's songs are on your iPod, you can transfer everything to your new computer.
For example with this tool http://www.copytrans.net

  • Need Help Transferring/Syncing Contacts TO PC

I feel like I have searched everywhere for a solution but haven't found one.  I am ultimately trying to export my contacts on my iphone 4 to an excel format. If I can do this directly, excellent.  If it's a 2-step process, fine.
I did see that I can sync my contacts from my phone to my Windows Address Book (WAB). I tried that using iTunes (Info, Sync Contacts with "Windows Contacts" and apply), but when I went to my contacts folder in windows, the only contact I saw was a contact file for the username on my computer. Every other topic I've read says that this should work, but obviously in my case it's not.
I do not have outlook or manage my phone contacts in any other application, just my phone.
Am I doing something wrong, can anyone help me out? Thank you in advance.
    Here's my specs:
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    iTunes version 10.5.1.42
    iPhone 4
    iOS 5.0.1 (9A405)

Itunes is on but does not have anything refering to "equipment" as for back up the phone syncs everytime its conected to my laptop

  • Transferring / sync to a new computer

My old computer died, and I can not get the songs on my nano to download into Itunes on my new computer, how do you get them to download?

iTunes syncing is generally in one direction, from the computer's iTunes library to the iPod.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store.  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your new iTunes library.

  • HH3 / WiFi File Transfers / Syncing

Hi there all, first post here, however I do browse occasionally, I hope this is in the correct forum topic.
Basically, we have the BT Infinity option 2 service, with the HomeHub 3.
The wireless, is currently set to support the b/g/n due to having multiple laptops, not all on the N wireless cards yet, however this is the issue in hand ..
I have servers in my garage which contain all of our files & data, so the network drives are mapped to each laptop / computer for use. My partner regulary syncs her music via iTunes to her iPhone and such, however when she is doing so the WiFi connection simply comes to a stand still, untill it's complete.
The transfer rate as the router "says" it has available over those channels is 130mbps, the card in her laptop is only 54mb G, therefore doesn't take up all of the "over the air" bandwidth as to speak.
Prior to joining BT, thus replacing our current router with the HH3 to support the VDSL modem supplied, we had a D-Link setup, and also a Buffalo access point in the past, when doing such things via those it would run perfectly fine.
Incase anyone states it's the connection to server or similar, it has been fine the past 5 years on the above mentioned setup's so it's all pointing to the HH3. The server is using the Gigabit port, with full duplex 1000MBPS and CAT6 cable, doing the syncing by plugging a ethernet cable in is fine, as it used to, however for ease I'd like to be able to use the WiFi, so if anyone knows if theres any "hidden" QOS or configuration settings for this please let me know if you can
Thanks alot in advance, I've probably rambled on a little.
    Stephen

    Hi i5te,
Thanks fopr posting. Backwards compatibility when using mixed modes can significantly reduce the speed of devices on the wireless network. Put simply, when using G and N devices on a network there is a layer which allows the 2 different standards to communicate with each other (making them backwards compatible). The ability to allow G and N devices to communicate reduces the benefits of the higher performing N standard. Hope that helps.
    Cheers

  • How many different iPods can I sync with my single iMac user/iTunes account?

    Good Day to All,
Can anyone tell me how many different iPods & iPhones can I successfully consistently sync/integrate using my one "user account" in iTunes on my iMac? This ist situation:
I have always (and only) synced etc. my iPhone with my one iTunes UID which is under my ONE "User Account" on my  iMac. Recently, my elderly folks gave me 2 iPods they have never used. One is a little silver 4GB shuffle (the little guy with a built on "belt clip" & it verbally tells you what song and artist is playing. The other is also an iPod shuffle ( only 1GB), also has the metal "pinch to open; belt clip"; also no display, however it came with a little USB Dock and THIS ONE has all of the user controls on the face of it in a circular patter of course..
To have COMPLETE successful "interaction/integration/syncing" etc (with no issues/complications etc) with my iTunes currently and previously only used with my iPhone, do I have to create two new additional "User Login/accounts" on my iMac (one for each iPod) to have all three if my devices work perfectly fine, or can I just use my same iMac login (UID) & iTunes that I use with my iPhone and have no worries?
(ie: I created my girlfriend her own iMac login UID which she has always used for backing up/syncing etc her iPhone with HER iTunes library etc)
In short, does iTunes have the ability to have multiple iPods & my iPhone under my one existing iTunes account AND using the same single iMac login/UID I've always used with my iPhone?
Obviously, I know I could create an iMac login for my mom's, another for my dad's & create them both their individual iTunes accounts, but they really don't want to have to worry about dealing with all that. I'm teetering between just treating them as my iPods and mixing/adding their limited CD's into my library (again, if iTunes allows multiple iPods etc as explained above..
OR; my other thought would be (again, if one iTunes account can integrate the two iPods as seperate devices and to just create ONE iMac UID login and ONE iTunes account under my dad's name, and use that one account for both of their music, both of their iPods, importing their CD's into the same iTunes library, then when syncing etc. just doing selective transfers/sync's of the specific music for each iPod... Even then, will iTunes be able to differentiate the two as far as backups/restored etc? I think  answering my own question as I type due to the cloud... For completely individual cloud interaction/integration, I would def need to create each of them their own iTunes accounts, otherwise they will have all of each other's songs on their devices.. (ie: And my dad def doesn't want to worry about skipping over my mom's Journey or Aerosmith tunes to get to his Willie Nelson and vice versa for example.
(Sorry sooooo drawn out; thinking outloud) I guess it seems obvious that since all their digital music has to be on my iMac, I really should create them each their own iMac UID login as well as their own individual iTunes Acounts to insure cloud services work easily for restores/backups etc...
Thanks for stumbling thru my thought processes here (if I didn't lose ya long ago); I'm exhausted and throwing thoughts at the classroom board to see what sticks.... The best easiest way that is.. (The two aren't always the same obviously!)
Thank you all for your precious time and consideration and most if all; YOUR PATIENCE!! Any confirmation if the options and suggestions are greatly appreciated. You know, gotta take care of the folks & what is the simplest for them as just end users is the most important or they'll NEVER bother with them in the end...
    Respectfully appreciative,
    DB

You can use as many iPods with one iTunes library as you want.

  • Syncing iPhoto on iPad (iOS) with iPhoto on Mac. How to?

I am using iPhoto on Mac as well as iPhoto on iPad.
Being a heavy (pro) user of iPhoto on Mac, I always organise by Keywords and Stars. When doing on Mac then syncing to iPad, it is easy. However if I were to go overseas and just bring my iPad with me, I would want to organise my photos using iPhoto on iPad (iOS), and create Stars and Keyword. But it seems it is not possible to sync it back to the Mac with my organised album.
How do I organise my photos on iPhoto on iOS, then sync the organised albums (with keywords and stars) with the iPhoto on the Mac?

    Leonard,
I do not know of any smart folders, but for each tag you define, iPhoto on the iPad will automatically create a (smart) album containing all photos with this tag.
See this page of the iPhoto Online Help:
    What are albums? http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/2.0/?handbuch#blnkb9b1e2a
iPhoto creates the following albums as needed:
Camera Roll: After you install iPhoto on your device, photos you take with your device appear in this album.
Recent: The photos most recently added to iPhoto appear in this album.
Edited: Photos you edit using iPhoto. This includes photos you add captions to.
    Flagged: Photos you flag.
Favorites: Photos you tag as favorites.
[Custom]: Photos you add a custom tag to.
iTunes: Photos imported from iTunes using file sharing.
[App]: Photos sent directly from other apps to iPhoto.
Beamed: Photos beamed from another device.
AirDrop: Photos transferred from another device using AirDrop.
Photo Box: If a photo appears in an album (Edited, Favorites, Journals, or
So your "tagged" albums will be created automatically on the iPad.
I just hope that Apple would make this app more "compatible", so that things we do on the iPad could be transferred/synced to the Mac.
Yes, let's hope. Apple seems to be dragging the feet about syncing photo libraries, however. You cannot even sync two iPhoto libraries on the mac.

  • Syncing Contacts between iPhone 4 & Outlook

    iPhone 4. iOS 6.1.3
I have two Contact Groups on my iPhone: All Contacts & iPhone. (I am syncing to Outlook via iTunes.)
    1. How can I force the phone to enter all new contacts into only the iPhone group? Currently, it seems that any new contact I add automatically goes into All Contacts. I can find no way in Settings or elswhere to stop this from happening. (I know there are old threads on this site that say you can change the Default Contact Group through Settings>Contacts to e.g. iPhone but no version of software on my phone so far - over 2 years - has allowed this.)
    2. Is there a way to move contacts out of the All Contacts group into the iPhone group? Other than painfully re-typing the data into the iPhone group and deleting the same contact in All Contacts, there seems to be no way of doing this. Really strange that Apple does not give you an option to easily move a contact from one group to another.
    3. Is there a way to sync both groups to Outlook via iTunes? I have tried every place I can find in both the phone and iTunes to make this happen but no luck. If this was possible, then it would be an easy matter in Outlook to move all the contacts to the iPhone group and then resync. Voila! All would be in the iPhone group. Catch 22 - there doesn't seem to be any way of transferring/syncing the contacts in the All Contacts group to anywhere, let alone to Outlook through iTunes.
    4. Is there anyone else out there who can see any logical reason why Apple cannot provide the above functionality within the iPhone?
    Thanks

No - the syncing process for contact info is a bidirectional or true sync process. There is no setting for not transferring or syncing contacts with an email address only. If you don't want these contacts with an email address only on your iPhone, delete the contacts from the address book used by OE.

  • Ipod sync - iTunes versions

I used iTunes 9.1.1 on a MacBook to synchronize my iPad. Then I transferred sync to iMac where iTunes 9.2 is installed. Does not work - it ill not update podcasts or photos. When I hook the iPad back on the old version of iTunes it works fine(!)
Any explanation? I wish to use the iMac as the main and permanent source for iPad updates.

I sounds like you are syncing your iPad to two computers. An i-device (iPad, iPhone etc.) can only since to one computer. When synced to another computer it the contents of the iPad are replaced with those on the other computer. You can use iTunes Home sharing to share the contents of one iTunes on another computer.

  • IPhone will not sync iTunes and iPhoto

Just bought an iPhone a couple weeks ago. No problems transferring (sync) iTunes and iPhoto (and everything else) on day 1. Now looking to sync a second time and no luck. When I connect iPhone to my MacBookPro, iTunes and iPhoto automatically open but no sync. And under File >> in iTunes, there is no option to sync iPhone. I have tried restarting computer, restarting iPhone, trying both ISB ports on the computer (the basic troubleshooting in the manual). Again, iTunes and iPhoto open automatically as if it wants to sync, but does not. Any suggestions ? Sorry if this is a common problem. I could not find it with a cursory search. Thanks.

Try downloading the current iTunes version and re-install it over the existing. No need to delete iTunes on your computer first.

  • How to transfer photos and videos (not taken with iPhone) originally transferred from iTunes to iPhone back to iTunes.

I delivered mine MacBook Pro to a store to format it. Unfortunally they did not take full backup before they started and I lost al lot of pictures and videos. Most of it were taken with a ordinary camera and not with the iPhone and I transferred/synced it to iPhone using iTunes. I need to transfer this back to iTunes/iPhoto/iMovie. How can I do that?

You can e-mail them to yourself. You can not transfer them using iPhoto/iMovie/iTunes. The phones had to come from your computer in the first place to sync them from the phone, so they are not part any backup and no allowance is made to extract them from the phone.  The photos on the phone are NOT stored at their full resolution, they were optimized for the smaller screen during the sync process that put them on the phone to begin with.
You may be able to find 3rd party software that will allow you to extract them, but I wouldn't waste the money when you have e-mail at your disposal.
You could also upload them to dropbox, box.net, skydrive, or any of the other numerous free cloud service, then download them to your computer.

  • Transferring CDs to iPhone without iTunes

    Hi there,
Until recently I've not transferred/synced my iPhone4 with my computer.
My iBook G4 can't run the latest version of iTunes so therefore I can't copy new music to my phone (purchased on CD rather than downloaded).
Is there a workaround that doesn't force me into shelling out for a new computer? The iBook still works properly, naturally, so doesn't warrant replacing.
    Thanks

The only ways to get music on your phone is to either purchase it through iTunes on your phone, sync it to your phone, or use iTunes Match. The last two choices would require updating to OS X 10.6.8 or later, & iTunes 10.7 or later.
You can also look at something like this:

  • Syncing causes movies to be treated as "new"?

Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this, and can offer suggestions or input as to solution....
I have noticed lately that when I go back to a movie that I've already started watching, the iPhone (3G, white, 16 gig) shows the movie with a blue dot, which signifies that it hasn't been watched/started yet. I am having to go to the chapter list and search through that to find where I left off.
I think that this is occurring when I'm syncing the phone.
By the way, should mention that this is occurring with movies that I've HandBraked. Haven't yet noticed it with an iTunes provided movie, as I haven't transferred/synced any of those from my Library yet.
    TIA!

After reading your answer, I checked and it's already set up this way. Yet, I noticed this morning after syncing another movie to the iPhone (in addition to the one already on there) that afterwards, the first movie AGAIN is showing the blue dot (i.e., unwatched/unplayed).
Getting annoying having to go to the chapter list and try to figure out where approximately it was that I left off.....

  • Backup contacts when synced to exchange server

my wife has 30 days left at her job, and her iphone is connected to the exchange server at work. All her contact information is on there, and after reading through some posts I am confident she will lose her contacts (and calendar entries) once she is dismissed.
I have tried to save the contacts to windows address book utilizing itunes and the instructions, but when I did this nothing was saved to windows address book. I also tried to save to google contacts and nothing was transferred/synced there either.
I have since tried idrive lite as a backup, only to find some entries mysteriously not backed up.
I am trying to back up the data prior to her final day, do you have any suggestions?
I realize that she could save her address book as a .csv file, but she may not have an opportunity to log in directly to the exchange server before her finaly day(she works remotely and it is likely she will just mail her equipment minus the iphone back to her offfice).
thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Thanks for looking into this. I agree it seems to be an issue with the EWS access.
I believe it is Exchange 2010.
I have taken the following actions
    - The IT department reset my email account but no improvement.
    - I have reinstalled the OS on my MacBookAir (shut down computer, restart, press key "R", select reinstall OS). This took quite a while. Mail still crashes.
IT department recommends to install e.g. Gmail or yahoo on Mail and check whether problem persists
Last resort solution, Exchange could be deleted and then reinstalled again.
However, I want to keep this option to the very last.
What else could I try to do?
    Thanks again.

  • Transfering from iPhone 4 (iOS 6.1.3)  to iPhone 4S (iOS 7)

    Hi guys.
Here's the thing: I've been using an iPhone 4 with iOS 6.1.3 and just bought an iPhone 4S with iOS 7 already installed. My question is this: The newer iOS will be overwritten with the older backup when transfering/syncing from iTunes, returning the iPhone 4S to iOS 6.1.3?
Or will just "port" all the info, contacts, apps, etc. to the newer iOS?
    Thanks and see you around!

Try MobileTrans, it's working fine, but a bit expensive...
After installing this, you'll Be able to send/recieve music, photos and Videos over bluetooth. Works fine with all mobile phones and iDevices ...

  • ITunes syncs same songs everyday

As the thread title states, my iPod Classic syncs the same 100 songs once everyday. Nothing has changed with the songs and I haven't played the songs since I put them on the iPod. How can I stop this from happening everyday?
    Thanks

Just to clearify, from what I read. He doesn't want to get a different 100 songs the next time. Just that everytime he plugs in his ipod it'll re-sync the same 100 songs. Example: He'll plug it in and it'll sync these 100 songs. Then he'll eject. Then after usage. Re-plug it back in and it'll sync the same exact songs over to the ipod and he'll have to wait again for the songs to be transfered over. It's an endless loop of having to wait for the same exact songs to be transfered/sync'ed over to the ipod. He wants to know how to stop the ipod from re-syncing the songs over to the ipod when it's already on the ipod.
Please let me know if I'm correct.
I don't know the problem but I have had this happen to me a couple times. But after the second sync it wouldn't do it again. But hopefully someone has a fix.
