Transferring to another PC

I have a home network of three PC's. Two run Vista (with Windows Media Centre). My main home PC runs XP and has Premiere Elements 3.0 installed. I have created a slide show (with audio) and I want to play it on one of the other machines (which are linked to HD screens). When I copy the Premiere file across the network to one of the other machines, the other machines cannot play it. What should I do?

You will need PE installed on the Vista machine to do anything with the .PREL file. It is only an XML database, that links to the original Assets, and wants to first see them in their original location (the location that you had, when you created the Project originally). Now, once PE is properly installed on the Vista machine, you can Open that Project, with one caveat. PE will look in the exact original location for the linked files. When it does not find them, where they

located, it should ask you to locate them on your Vista machine. Note: you do need all Assets available on the Vista machine. If you have all Assets in a common folder, it should link to all, once you point it into the right location. If you have sub-folder structures, you will then need to point it to each sub-folder. I would do a Save_As and assign a new Project name to it, on the Vista machine.
If it cannot link to the Assets, it will display Media Offline, with a multi-language placeholder icon for each missing Asset. Note: if you do a Save at this point, you can only manually link to the Assets, and this will take a lot of clicking. Better to do a Save_As, with the Media Offline, 'cause you cannot go back, other than manually.
PE is pretty smart, when you help it locate the Assets the first time. See above for limitations due to sub-folders.
As Steve points out, the .PREL (Project file) is useless, unless you have PE installed. It is not a media file. It cannot be played. It is just a list of all operations and Assets. For grins, open it in WordPad, and take a look at it. Do not alter it, and Cancel out, without doing any sort of Save. You'll see a bunch of XML language, with coding symbols. This is what PE reads from and writes to. Your Assets are not contained within it, only links to those Assets.
You need to Share/Export to a media file, to play what you have done. Until you do that, nothing can play the file, because there is nothing to play.

About the iTunes library files
Your iTunes library files track the media you add to iTunes, how you've organized it, and other information such as playlists. By default, these two files are in your iTunes folder:

Cannot transfer rental movie to ipad, itunes thinks it is already transferred to another device

Hopefully this is pretty straightforward. I downloaded a movie rental from iTunes store. When I attempted to move to my iPad (via manual sync) I got an error along the lines of the following: 'Cannot transfer movie rental as it is already transferred to another device'. I have rented movies multiple times from the iTunes store and did not encounter this issue. My laptop is authorized (I double checked). Correct me if I am wrong but if the rental appears in the iTunes library then technically it is not transferred.

I have purchased but never rented movies but from what I have read, your assumption is correct. Once you move the rental to an iDevice it should disappear from iTunes.
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), or Apple TV). Have you checked that the document is using the exact same font on both machines? If the second machine doesn't have the font installed that's used in the original document on the first machine, Word will pick the closest matching font, and that may
display slightly differently.

If you are jumping to another URL using the same window you
cannot have a sound start on the press of a button and that sound
to continue on.
Reason
You are removing all trace of the sound and the swf that
contains that sound file.
Work arounds
1.Take a look at "frames". This way you are keeping the
container page and opening another page inside of that page.
2. Div's. again you are importing a page into a particular
area yet keeping the swf, with the sound playing, in the parent
frame.

You can't transfer a balance (nor its purchases) to another account. Do you have any of its purchases on your computer's iTunes library ? If you do then selecting it and doing 'get-info' (control-I) should tell you the account id on the Summary tab on the popup.

My understanding is that rented movies can be viewed on only one device - the device that originally received the movie. Consequently, they can not be synced.
I can not explain why you see them twice in iTunes.

I know of no solution except for restorng the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod. Have you made a suggstion to Apple to all resetting email autofill?

The Domains.site2 file transferred from another mac won't open in iweb

Just transfered a Domains.site2 file from one mac to another in the applications support/iweb folder. But when I open iweb I get the error: can't read Domains.site2 file. Any thoughts on why this might be? It's a large file - over 2 gigs, transferred from an iMac running OX 10.5 to a macbook running OX 10.6

Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
Click to view full size
launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
launch iWeb and try again.

I transferred photos from my old phone when I got my iPhone. How do I transfer those photos to the photo stream? Incidently, I discovered by accident that I could do so by using the Weather Channel app. You can set a backround photo from the camera roll. If you end up replacing that photo for another, bam the replaced photo goes into the photo stream. I was just wondering if there was an easier way...

You will sign in using your My Verizon login information, and sync the Settings and Favorites to your new device. However, if your Favorites are on a different mobile number, you will have to manually enter in the information/ settings. I still encourage you to use the website to set everything up as you like, in case you need to change devices in the future.

UK iPhone Activation; transferring from another network

Does anyone know if the UK iPhone will have a similar facility to the US iPhone, where you can transfer a number from another network via iTunes if purchasing over-the-counter in a UK Applestore?
I've been told by an O2 rep that the only way to transfer my number from another network (Orange) is to ask them for a PAC code, go into an O2 store on iPhone release, give them the PAC code I've got from Orange, and then wait 5 days while they request the number from Orange, transfer it to my iPhone (which in the meantime will have a temporary number) and then wait 5 days for it to be activated with the transferred number.
In the US it appears that you can simply purchase a boxed iPhone, activate it through iTunes, and--as part of that process--type in your current number and it's transferred as part of the activation process almost immediately.
Do we know if it's going to work in a similar way over here, or do I really have to jump through all of O2's hoops? I have a suspicion they are only telling me this is the process as (a) they have no idea about a possible alternative, or (b) they want to make the sale rather than an Applestore.
Anyone know?

The process by which numbers can be ported from one carrier to another is very simple in the US, not just with the iPhone. If I were to walk into a T-Mobile store and want to transfer my number from AT&T to one of their plans, it would be equally easy.
If porting a number is more complicated in the UK than it is here, it's hard to predict whether the process will look the same or not.

If you haven't done so, backup your iTunes media to an external drive or burn to CD's...
If you import the iTunes library to a another computer, do this first.
On the new computer, launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer. That way you'll be able to play your music.

Why is it that I can open some websites and others won't open at all. It says below that the information is transferring from another site, but it never opens. Very frustrating.

I open an e-mail, click on a link, and sometimes it will open, other times it won't. If the website is given in the e-mail, I can copy and paste the site into Firefox, and it will usually open, but I want to know why a valid link won't open. Other times, I will enter an address in Firefox and I get "done" at the bottom, but I'm looking at a blank page. I'm not a technician, just an operator, so it may be a setting somewhere in the millions of settings that are default or that I have changed, but I have no clue what is causing this. Another problem that only occurs with Firefox is that if I am filling out an online shopping cart, when I'm done, there is no button to click to finish the transaction. I have to open IE, go to the same site, make the same order, and the "submit" or "order" button is there. Why in IE and not in Firefox? Any help would be most appreciated.

OK lets engage the brain here. A car is warranted from the maker of the car through the dealer that sells it.
That warranty is clearly spelled out. 3 years parts and labor, 5 year power train, 10 rust through etc. It tells you how to obtain this warranty service.
Find the warranty service conditions on Verizon Wireless and READ them.
Now you go to Best Buy and buy a Television and hook it to cable vision or Fios and it breaks down and you want the company you get TV service from to fix it? Please get real.
If you bought the device from Walmart or Best Buy or any major retailer they give you 15 days to return a defective unit. Then after that time it spells out your options. One of them is not to bring it back to them. They don't repair devices.
Now Verizon Wireless is also a retailer, they give you 14 days to return it and after that they will assist in the warranty of the device through the manufacturer. Verizon does not make phones nor repair them.
There is no customer courtesy outside of issuing a refurbished device if not physically broken and you send the other one back to complete the warranty process if under a year. If you have supplemental insurance then you go through asurian. That is pertinent information.
Just because you don't like the reply does not make it correct.
The updates come through Google, then HTC (Or other device makers), then to Verizon to push out to the devices. Verizon has nothing to do with the code of the update, nor anything regarding the devices. They provide a service of which is cellular and data services. If the devices cannot work on their service Verizon Wireless is not to blame.
