Transferring Video Files without Losing Project Links

I know this issue must have been addressed in the archives, but I can't seem to find the specific issue.  Hope someone can help.  The online manual is no help.
My C: HDD is filling up with video files, and I'd like to move all video files (and future files) to a new 2TB disk that I have installed dedicated for that purpose.  I intend to leave Premiere Elements 4.0 and my .prel projects in my existinng C: drive.
How do I do this safely, without losing the links between the raw video files and clips inserted in my project??  Thanks.

the Archiver seems straightforward, but I will then have my .prel project on a drive different from the Premiere program.  Somewhere I read that this is possibly unstable.  Any opinions?
Actually, this is preferred. On a two, physical HDD setup, allocation like this is best: Not sure where you saw a rec. to have the Project on the same drive as the program.
C:\ OS, program files, and maybe the Windows Virtual Memory (Page File)*
D:\ Project, Assets and Scratch Disks
If one has a 3 HDD I/O, this would be the best
C:\ OS, program files, and maybe the Windows Virtual Memory (Page File)
D:\ Project, and Scratch Disks
E:\ Assets
* A bit of experimentation might indicate that the Page File does better on another HDD, as far as ultimate performance is concerned. I have two different Page File locations, on two different machines. On one, splitting the statically managed Page File over C:\ and D:\ yielded the best performance, while on another computer, locating it fully on E:\ was best. Just depends, though locating on C:\ will usually be pretty good. For video-editing, I do like to statically manage the Page File, as is explained in this ARTICLE.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • How do I update linked FM files without losing TOC entries or Map IDs?

    Hi,
I'm using RH 10 with linked FM 11 files to create a WebHelp project and this is what happens when I do an update or force update of a linked file in the RH project:
After the update, the topic that contains updated content gets deleted from project TOC in RH.
After the update, any Map IDs assigned to the topic that contains the updated content are deleted.
Can someone please advise how to update a linked file without losing TOC entries or Map IDs?
    Thanks a bunch!
    Gabe

    HI Gabe,
You will want to link the TOC from FM in your conversion settings, and set the map id's via TopicAlias markers in FM.

  • Trouble Transferring Videos Files from computer to ipad in ios 8

    Hello -
I'm a bit confused about the "sharing" aspect of what used to be the "home videos" section in itunes for transferring video files to my ipad. It appears I can only access these files when my itunes is open and able to be accessed via wifi. What am I missing? I would like to have the files themselves on the ipad so that I can watch videos when not connected to the internet, and not near my computer.
Apologies, this is probably an easy fix - I haven't been able to find an answer,
    Elizabeth

  • Open video file of rendered project?

    Hello,
I made a slideshow in iPhoto then output it to iDVD. Everything worked fine, except my audio was not what I wanted. I cannot change anything in iPhoto anymore because I lost my entire library. I still have the slideshow and I want to edit it somehow. Is there anyway I can take the rendered video out of it and import it into iMovie so I can change the music track?
    Thanks,
    Adam

That is taking a DVD and ripping it to a video file...which isn't what I am wanting to do, but I may have to do as a last resort. I am wanting to either edit the audio extract the video from an iDVD project.
I have opened up the package of my project, and there is a folder in it labeled "Audio" with a .aif file in it that is the soundtrack to my slideshow. I replaced this .aif with a .aif of the same length and same name, thinking that would take care of my problem, but it did not use my new .aif for some reason. There is also a folder called video that has a quicktime file...but I cannot open it without getting an error.
    And other suggestions?

  • Problem when importing several (2,3 or 4) video files into one project.

Im creating a project video with several videos running at the same time in one screen.  Sort of like a surveillance with different videos but for some reason one of the video file seems to change from 45 seconds to 3 minutes.  When all of the video files are 45 seconds but after effects seems to put that video file into 3 minutes.  I even deleted the file and imported another video just like it and it works fine until I open the project again.  I am using AE CS4.

I hope I did this correct.  The first link shows the video length of the videos, this is how it is suppose to be.  Then the second link shows the problem in which one of the videos after (after effects) is closed and then opened again.  One of the video seems to malfunction and shows that it is longer then 45 seconds.  I tried to delete it and open up another one... and then another video seems to malfunction.

    SOMEONE PLEASE HELP !!!
      Windows XP

    from a post from monkeyboy67:
Hopefully in answer to the many posts on “how to get various video formats onto your iPod” I have put together a summary of applications I use. I have tried a few others with varying amounts of success (some of which are free) - I have finally plumped for the software produced by Xilisoft as providing good quality video relatively affordable cost for use with PC’s and numerous MS operating systems. The link below takes you to their site which not only allows you to download trail versions of their software but also has a comprehensive set of tutorials and FAQ's for their iPod video conversion software.
I have regularly used these applications to convert various file formats to iPod friendly video. They are simple to use although frequently processor and RAM hungry:
Use Xilisoft iPod Video Converter if you want to:
[*]Convert various video file formats to MP4
[*]Convert most audio file formats to MP3
[*]Extract audio from video file and save to MP3
    [*]Encode several files simultaneously
[*]Pause encoding process to run other CPU time consuming programs at any time
    Supported file formats:
    Video:
    [*]MPEG(mpg, mpeg, dat, vob); WMV; ASF; AVI; QuichTime(mov, qt); MPEG4(mp4); 3GP; DV(dv,
    dif); Real Video(rm); Animated GIF(gif - decoding only); Macromedia Flash(swf - decoding
    audio only);
    Audio:
[*]MPEG Audio(mp2, mp3); WMA; WAV; AU; MPEG4 Audio(m4a); Real Audio(ra); OGG; AAC; Raw
    AC3(ac3); NUT Open Container Format(nut);
To convert DVD's to an iPod friendly video format:
Use Xilisoft DVD to iPod V4:
[*]Just pop the DVD in your drive select compression variables (default settings work well) and sit back!
All these products are available on a "try before you buy basis", yes there are applications for XP which are free but and may work just as well but I have converted many hours of video for my iPod without hassle using the Xilisoft products (no I don't work for them!). • Best way to handle large number video files for a project..

Hey, I was looking at getting some insight from the community here. Bascially there is a project that is being worked on that requires large amount of footage to be sifted through that only a small percentage will be used. These are mostly HD files and while most of the footage has been watched on Quicktime with notes taken, my question is this.
What is the best way to take only small portions of each file without having to load everything into final cut and without any loose of quality. Should I just trim and rename from Quicktime or is there an easier way?
Reason this needs to be done this way is the smaller segments will each be sent to other editors and rather then send huge files we want to split it to smaller amounts for each editor to use.
Thank you so much for any input regarding this, I look forward to what you have to say

Open the clip into the viewer. Mark In and Out points on the section you want. Make it a subclip Cmd-U. Drag the subclip into the bin for the editor who needs it. Repeat.
If you batch export from a clip there is a selection to choose whether to export the whole clip or check box to export the marked I/O.
This does not sound like a good project on which to being learning FCP.

  • How to play back AVCHD video files without jerkiness result?

Hi all, I have an iMac 27" 3.06Ghz as well as the new MacBook Air 13 1.86Ghz, and both have 4GB of RAM. When I tried to play back AVCHD video files (*.mts) recorded from my Canon HF200 HD camcorder, the play back is always jerky and choppy. I have tried various software like Perian for QT, VLC, MPlayer Extended, all have the same result. However, I can play back other 1080p files like MKV and MOV just fine.
Is the jerkiness problem that I am seeing due to underpowered hardware? or is it I am not using the correct software? Note that I am not trying to edit HD videos, I just want to be able to play them back smoothly. I can play the same files on Windows 7 natively without any issues.
I am curious if any of you have the same problem. Please help!
    Thanks in advance.
    Ken

    Swaza,
Just thought I would jump in and share some experiences with .tod and .mod files.
I too have the JVC GZ-HD7 camera and I can confirm that the new version of the MPEG-SC 1.93beta will open and convert .tod to .mov for use with iMovieHD. I am not sure that the files can be used with iMovie08 since I have not tried, but it will work in iMovieHD just like any other qt or .mov file import.
Also, you can use the QTpro plugin that came with the camera (should be on the CD as the only MAC software available.) This will allow you to open the files in QT and convert them to any other format needed. This plugin unfortunately does not allow QTpro to open the older .mod files of previous JVC cameras. For that you can still use MPEG-SC.
In my experiences over the last few weeks, having mistakenly dumped all of my footage onto my hdd as I used to do with my older JVC cameras, I am now stuck with 3 hours of footage on my HDD as .tod files. I have been struggling to find the right blend of codec type, compression amount, fps, and quality to convert these files in an acceptable resolution (1920x1080 full - another mistake since iMovie08 will not import this quality but will import the 1440 CBR mode.) Converting these files is a nightmare and has become a stain on my otherwise wonderfu lexperience with this new camera (It is an awesome camera despite what negative stuff the "Canon fanboys" are saying!) It takes an unbelievably long time to convert. And you will find that when viewing these files in QT either as .tod or even after converting to .mov, they will be jerky and stutter. I believe this is more to the fact that the files are just really huge. Playback inside of iMovie06HD was perfect for me though.
Hope this helps out and I hope others may offer solutions as to what codecs they are using and what settings they are using to keep the quality as high as possible when converting these files.

  • Suddenly cannot place image or resize file without losing resolution quality. Is this a bug?

I have CS3 and have been using Photoshop for several years. Today I randomly encountered a problem I have never had before.
I created a new file, 468 x 60 pixels with a resolution of 200. I then placed a file of a 4.95MB photo in this file. The size of the photo is quite large (resolution also 200)  and I should have had to resize it way down to fit in small 468 x 60 space I had.
Instead, it placed the photo as a much smaller image, almost like a thumbnail of the original. When I went to resize the photo to make it larger, the resolution was terrible.
So then I went to the original file of the photo, copied it, went back to the 468 x 60 file and pasted it. It pasted it as the true size, but when I decreased the size, the resolution went bad. How does that even make sense?
So then I went back to the original file of the photo again and resized it down from there. The resolution went downhill again!
I have tried this with multiple other photos and file sizes and dimensions. I cannot place any large photo file and keep its accurate dimensions/resolutions. I also cannot resize any photo down without losing pixel quality.
The only thing weird that showed up right at the beginning of this whole process was that the pixel aspect ratio window kept popping up even before I'd open a file (it has been set to square).
I have reset all PS preferences through ctrl-alt-shift. I have gone through the Adobe update process. I have done disk clean-up and cleared off nearly 10GB of room on my hard drive. I have restarted over and over. I have also tried this process in Illustrator and had no problems.
Is this a bug? A memory problem? Never have I run into this issue before and I feel like I'm going crazy!

You could make the top layer active and then Cmd-Shift-Option-E
    (stamp visible).
Do the trim and crop and then delete the top layer afterwords.

  • Someone knows how to minimize size video-file without lose quality?

I have been trying but I can not find the settings to minimize my video-files in size without lose quality in premier CS3,can someone help me please?.
the file is a mpg  exported mpg2 from imagemixer3SE software that comes with the camcorder I have got.
As well I have got problems finding the audio.I explain:when exporting the mpg to premiere the audio is not there, but in other programs as after effects you can see there are audio.I readed somewhere that provbably the programe forgot to import the codec and I have to find the file .nll  and import it to premiere but I do not know if this is the right answer.
    Please help!!!
    Thank you very much,
    Asyn

Unfortunately, you have posted into the Premiere forum. This is an older series of programs, prior to the introduction of the Premiere Pro line, with PrPro 1.0.
John has hit on part of your problem - MPEG-2. It is highly compressed to begin with. The best format is, as he suggests, DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio. These files will be larger, but will edit better, and you are not likely to experience any Audio issues.
Then, for Export, you have some choices, but you must remember that comprimising the file size and bit-rate WILL diminish quality. How much, will be a function of the CODEC chosen.
What is your intended delivery, DVD-Video, or something else?
I'll bet that Curt, or Jeff, will move your post to the PrPro sub-forum, so look for it there. You will get many more responses in that forum.
    Good luck,

I'm trying to transfer videos off my macintosh HD and onto an external hard drive. Using cut and paste, and the drag and drop method. When using the drag and drop the OS pop up box says "could not be moved because "movie" cannot be modified". Also Videos within the hard drive cannot be moved. Anyone have any advice how I can get these files off my mac hard drive and into an external?

  • Can you delete iMovie video files without affecting a project?

I downloaded files from my recorder and created an iMovie. I didn't use every recorded file.
Now that I've created a project can the orginal files be deleted to save space?

If you never ever want to edit that project again, and if the raw footage contains images that are not important to you, and you never want to use those clips in a future project you can delete them.
The important thing to remember is that your video clips are stored in Events. The Project only contains a text file that has the paths to the event clips and instructions for how to put your video together.
When you finish a project and SHARE it using the Share menu, you are creating a finished version of the project. So if that is all you will ever need, you can delete your events and even your project.
What a lot of people do is to have a large external drive to store old events on. See instructions here.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4141
Also, if you create a camera archive (for AVCHD camcorders) of your raw clips, you can re-import your event clips later.

  • Hi guys! I have a question related to the latest version of iMovie. For some reason, when I drag a video file to my project, the audio becomes slightly higher pitched. Any suggestions on how to avoid this? Thanks!

This is iMovie 10 I believe. Thanks again!! Really appreciate the help!

To do this in iMovie 11. use the SHARE menu. Share your project using the Share menu and choose Export Using QuickTime.
In the Dialog box that comes up, choose Sound to AIFF, or one of the other sound options. This will create a file that you can drag into iTubes.
