  • Changing Movie to Music Video On 5th Generation

I just bought a 5th Generation iPod and I am having a trouble changing music videos to music video in iTunes. I can right click on a single file and under options change Video Type to Music Video from Movie the problem is I have slightly over 1,000 music videos and it does not make sense to do them one at a time. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, especially if they work.

Ah... you were talking about that little dropdown menu.
I didn't find any way to manipulate this for several tracks at once. Let Apple know about this issue, send them a feature request: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

  • Importing Videos into 5th Generation iPod

I have a 5th Generation iPod. Whenever I try to import a video, the video imports, but there is no audio. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

What video codecs are you trying to import? The absolute best thing is to use QuickTime and export the video for your iPod. If you use QT and use the File drop down menu and then click on export it will give you that option.
Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
Hence the need for 3rd party software as per Niel's recommendation.

  • Playing Music Videos in 5th Generation IPOD

I did all that was directed. I downloaded a music video from Itunes, it is now stored in my IPOD. I went to Videos, Music Videos, Artist, and then hit play. Sound, no video.
    Why?
    Thanks for your help

We used to have this issue on AppleTV - lots of us sent feedback using the AppleTv feedback link similar to the one given, and I'd like to think that was the spur for the feature eventually being added.
So I'd advise you to use the link the other poster gave.

  • ITunes Video not compatible with 5th generation 60GB video iPod

I downloaded several videos from the iTunes store to my Mac G4 1.67 powerbook. When updating my iPod, I received a message that some of the videos, really only one, was not downloaded to the iPod because the format was not compatible with my new 5th generation iPod. It seems to play fine on my G4. How can there be a compatibility problem with at video purchased from iTunes and downloaded to a Mac and transferred to a 5th generation iPod ? Anyone have any suggestions ? Thanks.

Thank you, lllaass.  Of course, an apple user remarks to this fact in their review. Are all courses going to have reviews attached? Why do I have to read reviews on courses to get this information?  Who is writing the review?  It's not an apple official. How reliable is information in reviews?  I've read reviews that have incorrect information. Why not put the fact that a course is incompatible with iPod right in the course description. It would save a lot of time and wasted bandwidth. Why was the book allowed to be downloaded onto an unsupported device?

  • Upgrade to 5th generation ipod?

about a week ago i sent in my battery dead, black and white 20GB click wheel ipod to be repaired. i was still under warantee so i didn't pay anything except shipping. however, i was under the impression that since i was getting a completely new ipod, i would get one of the new color-video-pictures-5th generation ones, and was quite disappointed when i got back the same kind of ipod i had before. this doesn't make sense to me at all, because my ipod and the new ipod are the same price (300) and they don't even make the old ones any more.
also, i have a friend who had the same problem with his black and white click wheel (dead battery) but he was out of warantee, so he paid the $59 and sent in for a new one, and he got the newest ipod.
I am wondering if anyone can shed any light on this...is there any way to upgrade my ipod for a fee, or since i've already started using it, send it back and somehow pay the 59 dollars and get a new one? would that work? any feedback would be great, thanks.

First of all, 7.3.2 is the latest iTunes applications software. Second, the music library is data. Updating the application does nothing to the data. It's exactly the same thing as updating MS Word. Your existing Word docs don't disappear.
Actually, in many cases (not always), updated software will update the data files whenever they're accessed. That's why there are occasional difficulties using out-dated applications software to access newer data files.

  • 1st time synch w/5th Generation video

I am the lucky recipient of a 5th generation video that was previously synched w/another computer. I am attempting to synch w/my imac and it is not recognizing it. I also have a 2nd generation that was used on the imac and when I plug the new 5th gen in, the ipod is giving me an error message of
"Fire Connections are not supported to transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided" Will the usb cable I have been using w/my 2nd gen - not work w/the newer 5th gen?

    Transferring from where?
Biggest issue is file size. I only shot 2 min., but all email accounts say file is too large to send. Does this sound right?
How large is the file? This may be a limitation of your email provider.
If you're trying to take a video from your computer and add it to your iPod, you need to add it to iTunes first.

  • On my iPod touch (5th generation) it won't let me watch any video's off any Internet sources eg Facebook twitter and YouTube. When I click on the video it just comes up saying 'this operation could not be continued'?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • How can i get my photos and videos back after backing up from my 2nd generation ipod into my 5th generation ipod? I really need those photos but i dont know how.

I downloaded the new itunes. So, i plugged in my 5th generation ipod and when i plugged it in, it asked me if i want to set it as new ipod or back up from the 2nd generation ipod touch that i plugged in before, i accidently clicked on the back up from before so it when its done, it looked like my 2nd gen. ipod and i dont like it. All my photos and videos from 5th gen. Ipod were all gone and there are some pictures that i really need as soon as possible. Is there a way i can i can get those photos and videos back? I really need them. :(

Did you fail to import them to your computer?
If so, then they are gone.

  • Ipod nano 5th generation freezes when trying to play a song or video

Within the last couple of day my ipod nano 5th generation started freezing whenever i tryed to play a song. Oly way i could turn it off was by resetting it, however it did not fix the problem and still freezes whenever i try to play a song. I have even restored it to factory setting and it does the exact same thing. I don't understand why it does this, does anyone know why it freezes and won't stop? i don't have any warrenty on it and want to know if it is fixable, because it just randomly started freezing when trying to play music. If any one knows why it would be appriacted to know.

Does this happen with any song or video you play?  If so, then my best guess would be a hardware issue since a restore to factory settings did not resolve it.

  • 5th generation video iPod USB not working

Hi, my 15 month old iPod 5th generation video no longer connects with USB on my iBook (all my other USB devices work just fine in the two USB 2 ports).
The screen lights when iPod is plugged in and when unplugged using USB, but that appears to be the in toto communication performed.
I have performed the five Rs, and putting the iPod into disc mode yields the expected result on the screen of the iPod (tick and OK to disconnect) but no connection to the computer (yes, I have plugged/unplugged a number of times).
I have disconnected the battery (as another poster suggested) for several minutes and that does not seem to have helped in resetting the system.
It charges just fine via Firewire (either by a Firewire port on my iBook or by an Apple Firewire AC adaptor type charger), with absolutely no charging taking place when connected with USB (either by a USB 2 port on my iBook (G4 2004 model) or by an Apple USB AC adaptor type charger).
I have also tried three different USB cables, one old, two brand new Apple ones (all of which work just fine on my old 4th gen iPod, my daughter's 3rd gen iPod and my partner's two 4th gen iPods).
When I run the inbuilt diagnostics on the iPod, all of them come back as ok, including USB, both as charging and communication, so, in theory, everything should be ok, but most patently isn't.
I have tried to use the iPod on a Windows 2000 computer and an older iMac (both of which otherwise work fine with other iPods either using USB and Firewire) with nil recognition by any.
I've looked in the wide dock connection plug at the bottom of the iPod as another poster said that the connection pins might be bent, however, I can't see any actual pins, just a wide tongue in the middle, the same as on my other older iPod. Or do I need to open up the iPod and look for something in there?
Judging by the nr of comments and questions on similar issues here with the 5th generation video iPod, there should be a definitive fix for this problem, although, after looking through as much of the forums that might relate to this problem, no one seems to have come up with an explanation, let alone a solution for it.
So, my question remains, my iPod 5th generation video no longer connects with USB on my iBook, has anyone else (taking into account the above information), either had/have this problem and or found a resolution to it?
    Cheers, Peter
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   5th generation video iPod

Dear deggie, hi, thanks for the tip as to what I should be looking for in the slot. However, sadly, it all looks to be fine (well, at least the same as my other iPod).
HR, thanks for the tip re opening the iPod, unfortunately, it is 15 months old, so well past the 12 month warranty expiry (ridiculous, isn't it?).
Here in Australia, we don't have access to Genius Bars and Apple Stores, just the local distributors, and they want $210 to repair/replace the iPod, which, frankly I find a bit rich, considering that it hasn't been mistreated in any way and the other iPod I have has been running fine for more than two years.
I get the feeling, judging by the many complaints on these forums regarding the problems that the gen 5 iPod being recognised and connecting to both Mac and Windows, that this cannot just be purely user error or maltreatment. However, I'm unsure as to what can be done to resolve them or get Apple to admit to there being a problem.
One of the things that confuses me, is that all the internal diagnostics (menu + select then select + back) including USB communication, all come back fine, when, as mentioned in an above post, it most patently is not. Anyone have any clues as to what this might be due to?
If, by some bizarre fluke, I manage to find a resolution to this problem (short of going and paying Apple $210), I'll post back here with it.
Again, thanks for the help, cheers, Peter

  • Does anyone know a converter from the new iTunes TV/movie file type to one that will work on my 5th generation iPod video?

I just tried to load some new TV shows from my iTunes onto my 5th generation iPod video and it says the video format is not supported. I currently have dozens of TV shows and movies on the iPod, I just wanted to put some new stuff on there. So I need to know if there is anyway of converting the new iTunes video format into one that will run on my 5th generation iPod.
    Thnaks in advanced.

When you drag a movie from the Media Browser to the Time lIne in GarageBand, you will see a pop-up "Extracting Audio".
The Movie and the audio file will appear in separate tracks. You can copy the audio region from the sound track to a different track to keep it safe and then hide the Movie track.

  • Creative ZEN Vision:M or 5th Generation iPOD Video ?

So which one would you pick? The ZEN or the iPOD. Yes, I know most people would say the ipod since this is an apple board but this ZEN Vision:M business is pretty awesome.
If you had the option to return your ipod and get the ZEN Vision, would you ? I mean, come on, look at this thing. Its a beast !
I also wanted to ask if anyone owns this thing ? i wanna ask a few questions about. i.e. battery life (since the ipod totally wreaks in that subject), compatability, other things..

Re: 4 hours playback... See my explanation about how Creative arrived at their playback times vs. how Apple arrived at theirs. If you want to listen to 64kbps WMA files, and watch 500kbps MPEG4 video, go right ahead. You could get the same result on your iPod listening to 64kbps AAC files and watching 500kbps MPEG4 video.
Re: double the songs... again, see my explanation about how Creative arrived at their 15,000 number vs. how Apple arrived at their 7,500 number (hint: 64kbps WMA files vs. 128kbps AAC files)
Re: more audio formats... yes. the Vision:M adds the ability to play WMA files (the iPod can play MP3 and WAV files)
Re: more video formats... yes. The Vision:M adds the ability to play MPEG1/2, WMV9, Motion-JPEG, and XviD.
Re: FM radio, recorder, voice recorder, yes. Points to Vision:M.
Re: iPod's batter turning red with 2 hours left to go... the battery meter is an estimate, nothing more. If it really bothers you and you can't ignore it, put a piece of black electrical tape over it. My battery meter is fairly accurate, but I've ran my iPod completely dead and charged it up completely 2x since I've bought it. Seems to have helped.
Re: scratching issue.. seems like there were a few people on those engadget posts that were complaining about their Zen (non-vision:M) scratching up pretty bad. My guess is the Vision:M will have the same problems (but that's a guess).
So, summary... If you need a FM radio/recorder, or a voice recorder, or don't want to transcode video you already have in a supported Vision:M format, or have your audio in WMA format, and are willing to deal with the extra width and cost, then the Vision:M might be for you. Be aware that Creative's battery life numbers are even more unapplicable to real-world use than Apple's are (I don't know of anyone that listens to 64kbps music anymore, and who would encode their video at 500kbps MPEG4?).

Had you brought the same pair of headphones to the Apple Store with you and they worked there?  If you hadn't, the wire or plug on those headphones may have failed.  Try a different pair if you can and see if those work.
