Transferring websites made on a PC to iWeb

Hey! I'm new to Mac, and I have a webpage I need to access. I created it and have been updating it on Microsoft Frontpage, but I was told by a Mac friend that iWeb is better. I'd like to start using iWeb to negotiate my site. Any way I can transfer the page easily into iWeb?

If you have the HTML code you can paste it to a Snippit, which brings me to a problem I'm having.
I made a Form using MS Word for visitors to my site to enter information, then have the Form email the information to me using the "mailto:" command. It does not work. Does anyone have a solution?

Clicking on index.html only open browser as you saw.

You can't import html code into iweb domain package.
iweb can't even import its own generated html code, therefore it will not be able to import html code created by other programs.
    That said, you can:
    1) rebuild your older site by copy and paste your old site into iweb.
    2) start new iweb project and link to the older site, using hyperlink.
now last and not really easy nor simple is to have javascript transforms the old page in to new iweb format. I'd done this over a year ago, I know it works with Safari, so stick with Safari when you want to see:

    iweb version: http://hdl.50webs.com/old2new/_bookmarks.html

  • Can I "convert" a website made with GoLive to iWeb?

I want  to use iWeb instead of Adobe GoLive for my website.
Can I "convert" this website made with GoLive to instead using iWeb?
    Thanks!

No but you might try Flux. It can open existing websites and is a very good alternative to iWeb which has been discontinued by Apple.  You can still use iWeb but will have to build your site from scratch. If you do decide to use iWeb check out Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site which has tips on using some of the existing files, image, audio, video, etc., from the published site in the creation of the new site.

I am a new mac user and I switch to mac due to the graphics that it brings. I do website in pc and I heard iweb is the best.NOW i heard that iweb will be discontinue. so what is the best application there for website using MAC OSX lion?

It is now confirmed  that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

    Hi,
I have just checked at my end and it seems everything is working fine and I am able to edit even the English version pages.
Can you please try some other browser or in a different system to edit your site and check if you are able to do so.
    Regards,

  • Can I import web pages made on another computer to iWeb?

I have more than one Mac, and while in the hospital celebrating the birth of my son, I made a few pages on iWeb with my iBook.
Once home I wanted to transfer those to my G5 for editing. How do I do that?

    ilovetrainskc:
Yes you can do that. You can either merge the two Domain.sites files into one with iWebSites or use them independently by renaming one of the to SiteName.sites and then use iWebSites to open them independently and publish independently.
I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.
    Do you Twango?

  • How can i delete a website made in iWeb from MobileMe but not from iWeb

The problem is that I have made changes to several pages (almost all of them) on my site and since the changes my site no longer displays correctly in Internet Explorer.
I have looked in the IE CSS file and the CSS file for IE is completely messed up and would take a long time to correct by correcting the code for every page, so I decided just to delete the whole site from MobileMe and then republish it as a new site, rather then as an altered site.
The problem is I don't want to delete the site from iWeb, because it has took me months to build it and I don't want to have to start again. I just want to delete the site from MobileMe, so I can republish it as a new site (and hopefully correct the screwed up code).
So how can I delete a website created in iWeb and published on MobileMe from MobileMe without deleting it from iWeb.
    Huge thanks
    Jay

Hey thanks for your reply, unfortunately I have already tried to delete my site from iDisk >> Web >> Sites. But it said that i didn't have permission and it wouldn't delete the files.
I am loged in as an Admin and I still cant delete them
    Thanks again

  • I want to move my Website made on iWeb from computer A to a new Computer. How do i do that???

I got a new iMac and i want to move my website to my new computer. I made my website with iWeb. But i don't find the way to export into the iweb. Because when i satrt the iWeb it, give me the option to open a new site but i dont find the way to just pull the site i have already made. Can please some one help me out.
    Thanks

Once you get the domain file to your new computer you'll want to put it in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. However, in Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder. Then you can place the domain file in the iWeb folder. If there is no iWeb folder in that location create one.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Cannot correct website made on iweb

I made changes to my iweb website, and then published to a new folder.  When I uploaded the new folder to my host my site is coming up as the non-corrected site.  Is it not saving? Any ideas??
I am deffinatly uploading the folders from the new folder....

Its not strictly necessary to empty your browser cache since you can force the browser to load from the server by hitting the refresh button or adding a ? to the end of the URL.
I tend to use Safari for surfing and test sites in Firefox and Chrome. This means that I don't have to empty the Safari cache until I want to.
There's not a lot of point in testing your site in Safari anyway since only a small proportion of surfers use it! Chrome and Firefox are the two top browsers with Internet Explorer in third place.
You should also get into the habit of checking your site with the browser error console. Firefox Tools are probably the most relevant since that's where you are most likely to encounter problems.
If you add custom code via a snippet, make sure you check this in the error console. If you use custom code like a dropdown menu that has a stylesheet you will find quite a lot of errors in Firefox now that the -moz decalration is no longer necessary!

  • JQuery Dialog in a Website made with iWeb

Yes, you have. Look at the source of your webpage.

I would only that the jQuery Dialog appears in the middle of the main website and not in the HTML Snippet!
Have you any idea how can I do this?
Open the webpage after publishing and add the code there.
Or use the same method as explained for the Google Analytics code. Or the method I use for adding custom menus. Follow the links here :
         http://www.wyodor.net/mfi/
You may have to learn HTML, CSS, JavaScript, DOM, AJAX and how iWeb creates its pages.
And why would you want to use jQeury for a <form> ?
Simpy ask and answer that question to yourself. Why?

  • IPhone and my website made with iWeb

    Sorry for the long title.
I am a full time presbyterian pastor who also has a home-based business on the side. Anyway this is a question for those who use iWeb and for those who may have an iPhone. I have made a website using iWeb (06) for this business (I am not trying to promote it here but just want my question) and when I check the main page via FF for Mac and/or the older version of IE for Mac it looks OK.
However, after dong a few changes when I look at the site with my iPhone the banners that I have on that page run up over my texts. I know that the iPhone is compressing the images, etc but I don't know how to fix the website so it looks normal (even though I may not be myself)whether one is using a computer or the iPhone. Anyway my url is www.pure-es.com Ifor anyone willing to check it out (via iPhone if possible as well as with your computer). Sorry if this is the wrong forum, to put this in.

I found out that all I had to do was move my text and re-do the of my table, etc. It not looks OK again in the iPhone and browsers for the computer.

I've created a wedding website for me and my fiance using iWeb on my computer - right now i'm in Greece and she is in Canada.

Is there a way she can change things and update the site without my computer?

Steve ~ Welcome to the discussions. If one of you has MobileMe membership you could allow access to iWeb's key domain file from both Macs via your iDisk. See this old thread:

  • Editing a website made with iWeb

    Hi there,
I am a new webmaster for a club at my university and the previous webmaster used iWeb to design the website. I am having difficulty going back to the website and changing and editing things. I don't know what information I need in order to gain access to "edit" it. I understand how the program works and everything, but I just need to Edit it and I don't want to create a whole new website. Thanks so much!

You'll need to obtain the Domain.sites file that the webmaster used originally to create and publish the website.  Once you get a copy of it you will be able to make any changes to the site, publish those changes to a folder on your hard drive and then upload them to the server with a 3rd party FTP client like YummyLIte, Transmit or Cyberduck.
If you're running Lion or Mt. Lion the following will apply:

  • Transferring website from old computer into iWeb

My hard drive crashed the other day and I just got a new one put in. I had a website created, but can't figure out how to set the old page up in iWeb to edit it.
Anyone know how to make the old page accessible in iWeb?

The files for your iWeb page are stored in User/Library/Application Support/iWeb and called something like Domain.sites2. You would need to copy it from your old hard drive to your new one. This of course is probably not possible if the old drive has crashed so you will have to restore it from a backup. If you don't have a backup file I suspect you will have to start again as I don't think there is any other way of doing it. (By the way the file in question is a package file so if you want to see what is inside it you need to right click on it and choose "Show Package Contents). Best of luck!
