Transferring Windows to a new computer

I have Windows on my current MacBook. I am getting a new laptop and giving the old one to my husband. He does not need Windows and I don't want to buy it again. Can I transfer the old Windows to my new computer?

Yes.
When you activate you may need to phone Microsoft, but if you tell them what you are doing you should be fine, ensure you remove Windows from the old MacBook.

  • Transferring Elements to a new computer

I downloaded Photoshop Elements a couple years ago and just bought a new Mac. Can I transfer Elements and Bridge to my new Mac? I put the files on a drive and transferred it to my new computer, but they aren't working right. Any suggestions?

What is the version of Elements you are trying to install. And also program cannot be migrated from one computer to another, you have to install it to make it work.

  • I transferred CS5 to a new computer using PC transfer program. CS5 started up on the new computer OK, but now does not recognize raw files. Should I uninstall and reinstall again?

I transferred CS5 to a new computer using PC mover ultimate. CS5 appeared to start up normally, I had to insert the serial number from my original CD. However, now the program does not recognize CR files and Adobe bridge is not working properly.  I get messages that CS5 needs to be updated, but the updates fail. What should I do? Should I uninstall CS5 on the new computer, uninstall CS5 on the old computer using the original CD, and then reinstall CS5 using the CD on the new computer?

Transferring programs does not work well with Adobe applications.  You should install them.
As far as having the program on different machines goes, you are allowed to have two activated installations so if it is working on the original machine there is no reason to remove it unless you need the space.

  • Transferring camera roll into new computer.

So... I got my laptop stolen and decided to get a new one. The thing is that I can't seem to download the Photo Library pictures from my old computer that are stored in my iphone, into the new laptop... is there anyway i can do that?
    Thanks!
    J.

Photos captured by your iPhone and a photo saved from a received email, from a website, or from a received MMS are stored in your iPhone's Camera Roll. Photos in your iPhone's Camera Roll can be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.
The title of your post is "Transferring camera roll into new computer" which you aren't asking about. You are asking about importing or transferring photos from your iPhone's Photo Library, which is completely separate from and has nothing to do with the Camera Roll.
Photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync/transfer process are stored in your iPhone's Photo Library, which is a one way transfer process only - from your computer to your iPhone. Photos transferred from your computer are optimized for viewing on your iPhone as part of the iTunes transfer process - the original resolution of these photos is reduced on your iPhone.
Photos stored on your computer should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data - stored on an external drive or some other external media used for backup purposes only which should be kept in a separate location from your laptop in the event it is lost or stolen. The iPhone is not designed or intended to be used as a backup storage device.
There are some 3rd party paid utilities that provide for transferring these photos in the opposite direction, but such utilities are not supported by Apple and the original resolution of these photos will be lost in the process.

  • Transferring iTunes library to new computer with Windows Vista OS

Using the Apple Support Guide I have tried to move my iTunes library to my new laptop using my iPod as the back up device. When I went to copy my music to my new computer by dragging the iTunes folder out of the Music folder to the desktop, a message occurred saying I must be the Administrator to do this (I am) so it would not complete the task. Instead I have located the iPod in Computer and dragged the iTunes folder into the Music Folder and replaced the iTunes folder in Music with the iTunes folder from Computer (i.e. iPod).
When I open the iTunes folder in Music, all the folders with all my music are there. However when I open the iTunes program there is no music in the library that shows up. If I sync my iPod will all the music then be transferred into the iTunes library?
As we have moved overseas I no longer have the old computer so the backup on my iPod is the only backup of the music we have so I don't want to risk deleting it.
    Many thanks for any help.

thanks Bocaken , just bought new pc. will be useful

  • Help in Transferring songs to a new computer...

Hi! Can anyone help me? I'm having problems in transferring my songs to a new computer. I used to have a PC but it needed a reformat so all the songs were erased. I wasn't able to copy the iTunes Folder to my iPod, but are the songs in my iPod enough? I would like to transfer them to my Mac.

I am sorry, but can you please be a little bit more clear with what you are asking? I don't exactly understand your post.
So are the songs on our iPod or are they not? Is your iPod formatted for PC or Windows?
    Post back with more details!

  • Transferring IPod Librabry to new Computer & Hard Drive Failure

My main computer had a hard drive failure and after I got a new hard drive I can't find a way to transfer the music library from my IPod to the new computer. I can't de-authorize the old computer beacuse the hard drive is dead. Does anyone know how to do this with out losing all of the music on my Ipod or burning it all to CD's ?

Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
An alternative method is to connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump and iPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

Afterwards, take the advice of others and make a back up *_other than the iPod._*

  • Transferring Itunes Playlists onto new computer!!!

This weekend I purchased a HP 64 bit tower with Windows Vista. My main concern with making a smooth transition from my old computer: *How do I transfer my Playlists from my old computer (or from my ipod) to my itunes library on my new computer? I have about 10,000 songs, so you can imagine how long it will take for me to reconstruct all of my playlists if I lose them Thanks!*

Copy the entire  /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer. Do not copy only the songs.
    Open iTunes.
That is all you need to do. Your library is moved with everything the same.

  • Transferring from ipod to new computer

I have authorisized the new computer, but still get the message that items i purchased could not be transferred from ipod because computer is not authorized.

    Hi Brensam,
Have you tried re-authorizing your computer?
Select the "Store" menu in iTunes (it's with the other tabs on the top of the iTunes window), and click on "Deauthorize computer" to deauthorize this computer.
Once you've deauthorized, go to the Store menu again, and now select "Authorize computer" to authorize this computer again.
After doing that, try syncing purchases to your iPod - do you still get the "now authorized" message?

  • I have transferred my music to new computer but music is not showing in iTunes - although is on the computer as if I select a song from the folder it will play that song via iTunes. How can I get my music to show?

I have transferred my music to a new computer following the instructions carefully but for whatever reason the music does not show on iTunes on the new computer. The music is there as I can access it via My Computer and if I select a song it will show in iTunes and play - however I can not do this for every single track! Can anyone suggest something I have done wrong????

Media was moved via external hard disk, and I think I moved the iTunes Media folder after consolidating it.

  • I have music in iTunes that was purchased with an account that no longer exists. I'm transferring music to a new computer so the new iTunes is asking me to sign in to the old account to authorize the old music. Is there a work-around for this?

Just to clarify: I purchased some of my older music in iTunes with an account that got deleted. I cannot recover or use this old account. I transferred music from my old iTunes to a new computer and that new iTunes on the new computer is asking me to sign into the old account to authorize the music. So, is there another way to transfer this music to my new iTunes? I'm using a USB thumb drive to transfer the music. Also, music that was purchased with my current account tranfers just fine.

  • Missing Playlists when transferring itunes library to new computer

I have moved my itunes files from my old computer to my new computer. I went into Preferences to link to the new file, but the library and songs do not show up in itunes. I went through the files and added the songs manually to the library, but the playlists are not there? What did I do wrong? Also, what should my response be when the window pops up when I connect my ipod? Should I select no or yes when it asks if I should change the link?

Please check this out, it'll help you transfer everything properly:

  • What's the best way to move library in Windows to a new computer?

I have iTunes running fine on my Vista machine at home. I've gotten Win7 in, and I'm going to be moving to a new computer I have which I'm upgrading from XP to 7 with (it's got more horsepower than my Vista machine).
Anyway, to that, I want to move all my stuff from my current Vista machine to the 7 machine, ioncluding iTunes. What's the easiest way to do this - and maintain all my stuff, like ratings, number of times played, playlists, etc...
I've read some helps, and none of them seem concerned about keeping number of times played, and all that. You can't just up and move the files, as the directory path will be different, so the itunes data file won't see them if you copy that, too.
    Suggestions?

The first thing to do is to ensure that your music is all together in the iTunes music folder. If you have tracks else where you need to consolidate your library.
Then install iTunes on the new PC but don't add any music.
With iTunes closed, drag the iTunes folder out of Music on the new PC to the desktop.
Then with iTunes closed on both PCs you need to copy The iTunes folder from the old PC to the Music fodler on the new PC so that it replaces the one you dragged out.
It doesn't really matter how you achieve the copying - network or via an external drive.
The last thing you need to do is to check the permissions on the iTunes folder you copied to the new PC, your account needs full control.
