Transferring workspace settings

Ok, I've got Photoshop CC 2014 installed and I'm ready to start using it. I have a saved workspace in PS CC and I'd like to use it in PS CC 2014. I've done the "sync settings" in CC and done "download settings" in CC 2014 but it is still not showing up as an option in my workspace options.
What do I need to do?

To my knowledge you can't copy your workspace or settings from CS4 to CS5.
For the workspaces this makes sense to me as Adobe has made some changed to the various workspace elements making it hard (impossible?) to migrate them over. Plus you may want ot make different choices based on the new features. I think you just have to recreate your workspaces from scratch again…
To a lesser extent the same reasoning goes for the preference settings (at least that's what I think you meant here), though in this case there are a lot of settings that are exactly same. Here I think Adobe could/should have offered you to migrate them over.
If you have actions, brushes, and other things, you can save them to a file (set) in CS4, and import them in CS5. Again I think Adobe could/should have offered to do this automatically for you though.

How do I get bridge CS5 to open up with my saved workspace settings?

Every time I open bridge it opens with large thumbnails in an old folder. I have to "reset" my workspace (even though it is highlighted at the top of the page already!) and then select the last folder I was working on again.
Is there any way to get bridge to remember your last used folder and last used workspace setting and just re-open with those already set?
The current situation just leads to lots more unnecessary annoying clicking.
I've tried all the options I can find in preferences and tried creating ans saving different workspace settings but nothing seems to effect how bridge opens up the first time I use it in a session. I am running it on Windows 7.

That seems to solve it. I think your point about exiting bridge before shutting down is important, but you need to make sure bridge is showing the set-up you want to keep first. I now have a sensible opening screen. Thanks a lot.

Is there a way to export workspace settings?

The problem is, I work with a two-monitor setup. One is the actual working area with a painstakingly constructed layout of panels, the other one has a synchronized window with a full-screen Preview. Every once in a while I accidentally close the working area window, and because Bridge only saves a "current state" in workspaces, my painstakingly crafted window is just gone, poof (sound effect, not slang).
I know I can save a duplicate working space. That makes it somewhat easier, but I still have to delete the botched working space and create it again as a copy of the duplicate. This, coupled with the fact that the first stage of any troubleshooting on Bridge is to nuke all settings, makes me a bit uneasy with the solution.
I would be very grateful if someone knew of a way to export workspace settings so I could just load them back in when I mess up or Bridge does.

Would you mind disclosing the resolution of your 30" monitor in terms of pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high) ? I'm just curious to see how such a large monitor compares to my two side-by-side 22" monitors.

The resolution I use with my 30 " is the default one and set to 2560 x 1600 pixels
If I can take a little 'gamble' I assume the total pixel amount of 2 x 22" will be more, but I never could get used on the two monitor set up. I just like my tools to be close to the image I work on, and using the pen tool with a lot of Brushing and switching to different layers and combine this with action pallet in button mode that needs also a lot of pressing it would be to often en to much distance to travel for my hand, but that's just personal.

Photoshop Workspace Settings Lost Every Reboot

If Photoshop crashes, or if I restart my computer, my workspace settings are set back to default. Actions specifically, though other settings seem impacted intermittently. Add-ons (purchased actions) disappear. Any ideas would be appreciated.
On an aside, the removal of the 'oil paint' filter from CS6 to CC is really disappointing.

Transfering global settings

Hi All,
We have created a process chain where in we have included the code for transferring global settings and for Exchange rate Transfer along with their variants.
In this Variants the we have given the system names as the DE0.
(Development BI - DB0, Development R/3 - DE0.
Quality BI - QB0, Quality R/3 - QE0.)
The Process chain is working fine. We need to transport this to quality and then to production. My questions are:
1. Would this transport be successful (as we are writing the system name as DE0)?
2. We do not have an option of doing any changes in quality system. Would the quality system automatically convert the system name from DE0 to QE0?
3. If not what is the right way to do this so that the process chain is successfully transported and transfers the global settings / Exchange rates from the target system's R/3.

The problem arises due to non assigning of source system in the variant.
Please follow the steps:
1. While you create variant from RSA1 - Source system - Transfer your global settings, there is a tab named "Copy Screen Assignment" at the top of the variant screen.
2. Click "Copy Screen Assignment" and save the variant, which automatically inputs the required source system name in the input.
3. Provide the same variant in the process chain along with program name.
4. Execute the process chain and will be success.

Flash CS4 starts loosing my workspace settings over and over again.

Recently my Flash CS4 keeps loosing my custom workspace settings. After last time i have even "created new" workspace, named and saved it. Now there is no trace of it anywhere and im looking at the default ones... This pisses me off like hell. Im on the clock here and this **** keeps happening. WTF?

how do i open character (font) settings panel in window so i can attach it anywhere i want on the screen?

It sounds like your Preferences file is corrupted. You need to create a new one. Here's a link to the help file for that: Re-create preferences
If you are talking about the character settings in the Properties window, you can tear off the Properties tab and move it anywhere you like on the screen. If it's something else, then I have no idea.

I loose my Workspace settings when switching

I loose my Workspace settings when switching. All my keyboard shortcuts get deleted even
though my different workspaces are able to switch out. I have to go back and assign shortcuts all over again if i select another workspace.
any suggestions as to why?

Have You saved the Keyboard Shortcuts before?
Because if »Keyboard Shortcuts« is clicked in the Save Workspace-dialog the Workspace will include the current Shortcuts-settings and, if invoked in the future, overwrite unsaved Keyboard Shortcut-changes, I think.
It might be better to not include the Keyboard Shortcuts in the Workspace but to manage them separately if one is prone to change them occasionally.

Moving Workspace settings for all users

I wanna move all workspace settings(like default startup options,preview modes, different type of separators etc ) for all users from test to dev enviroment.
Does anybady know how to do it?

Hi Rooa,
All Users Portal Favourites are stored under Content Administration -> KM Content -> Root -> Userhome.
This folder has all the data related / specific to a user. You can trasport this through to ICE to your other environment (QA or prod).
Check if this helps.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the import doesn't work." If you're trying to use File>Import, that's for importing content or FCP XML; it definitely will not work for something like a workspace XML.
If there's a way to import a workspace, like there is for export presets, I'm not aware of it. I can think of two options, however:
manually copy the workspace XMLs to the folder I cited above (or, if your Documents folder redirects elsewhere, then in the Layouts folder at that location)
in Workspace submenu under Window, make sure the option "Import Workspace from Projects" is enabled, and then load a project that uses a workspace that you want to share.

Workspace settings?

How do I make sure Photoshop saves my workspace settings? It seems like everytime I open it back up, it goes back to the default.

Un-maximize (restore) Photoshop so that it is in a Window. Then close it. Some things are not remembered properly if Photoshop is maximized when you close it.

Transfering files, settings, and everything else.

this is a pretty cut&dry question i suppose.
I'm planning on upgrading to a 24" iMac in the coming month. (Or should I wait until the new ones are announced? :P) I'm currently on my MacBook and was wondering if I'll be able to clone my MacBook onto the new iMac. I'll still use the MacBook for some stuff it's just that it's currently hooked up to my external drive and holds all my info and is used as if it's my desktop computer. I needed to get a new desktop and free this thing finally. It's an Intel based MacBook and I've upgraded to Leopard (got it as tiger) so I guess it shouldn't be a bother in that respect. I just want all programs, settings, and files/file locations/drives to be exactly as if I'm on here, when I'm all moved into my new iMac.
Will Setup Assistant accomplish all this? And what is the recommended hookup for fastest, safest transfers? Firewire? USB? Ethernet? or even using my Airport and local internet connection to setup a temporary network?

There is not so much worry when both Macs are Intel. The concern is when you try to migrate from a PowerPC Mac to Intel, which is the purpose of Kappy's User Tip Guide. That can cause issues if you transfer too much because of the chip and OS code differences. Your MacBook may have parts of the OS active that do not apply to the iMac because of the hardware differences, so cloning may not be the best route to take.
Using Migration Assistant should be very straight forward from the MacBook to the iMac. The setup Assistant will give you that opportunity as you follow the process when you first fire up the new Mac. If you already have the Firewire cable that Geordie mentions that will allow you to progress quickly and not have to run out and buy one. They are good to have on hand as you may need to fix something in the future if you screw something up. We all do occasionally! Something that sounded good on the fly does not always work out too well.

Photoshop Elements 11 doesn't keep my workspace settings

I've changed my Expert Mode to Custom Workspace and I set up all my panels as I like them. This remains the same every time I open and close Photoshop Elements until I reboot my computer. I am using Windows 7. It seems that my new settings file is somehow being reset even though I haven't done this myself. Note that I also have PSE 10 on my computer but haven't used it recently.
Is there somewhere that I should specify that the workspace must be saved? I have not had this problem with previous versions of PSE.

After talking to 3 different Canon techs who didn't know anything about
this and told me it was Adobe's fault, a 4th Canon tech e-mailed me a list
of the Elements software that is "compatible" with the Canon Pro-10
printer. The list stops at Elements 12! In other words, Canon has not
written the software for their plug-in to work with Elements 13 yet. I
personally am stunned by this. Considering how popular Adobe Elements is,
you'd think Canon would be up-to-date on having their new printer's plug-in
work with Elements 13, which has been out there for some time.
Not only that, Canon's more expensive printer, the Canon PRO-100, also has
the same problem. My friend just bought one and told me the plug-in doesn't
work with Elements 13.
I have figured out a solution, if it will be of help. I had just
uninstalled Adobe Elements 12 and when I saw that Canon's plug-in worked
with Elements 12, I quickly reinstalled it. Sure enough, when I clicked on
AUTOMATION TOOLS there was the Canon plug-in, and when I clicked on it, the
Canon print screen opened. So I decided I would do my photo editing in
Elements 13, and when ready to print I would open the photo in Elements 12
and print it there. Hope that helps.

Old imac (Tiger)not transfered internet settings to new mac (Leopard

Hi,
I used firewire and the instructions, as prompted from my new Imac Intel Core 2 Duo to transfer my information from my old iMac power pc it tranferred iphoto and photos but not songs in itunes which I did from an external hard drive.
All my e-mails, e-mail addresses and address book contacts have not been transferred but more importantly my internet settings have not been transferred and I just cannot get in touch with the ISP.
I thought it was a simple case of my old mac sending info to the new one and away I go. I have to use the old one to post this!
Help please. Basic instructions appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi Roger,
My faith in macs has been restored! I did as you suggested re network, that didnt do the trick. So I spoke to ISP and a very simple instructions were given I unplugged the cable modem, switched off and unplugged my mac, inserted the ethernet plug, replugged the modem replugged the mac and switched the mac on. Bingo!! On line with e-mails and address book details. it has to be in that order they said.
