Transforming a portion of a cmyk + spot color image

I'm going to try to make this as easy to understand as possible, so here goes. Let's say I've got an image with two circles on it. One circle is 5" and is filled with 50% Magenta, 50% Yellow and 50% of PMS Reflex Blue. The second circle is 3" and is sitting next to the first circle and is filled with 50% Cyan, 50% Black and 50% 185 Red.
Now, I decide that I want to scale the 3" circle up to roughly 4". So in order to do so, I drag a marquee around the 3" circle and hit Command T to show the transform handles. Then I proceed to drag one of the corners out to enlarge the circle only to find that it only enlarges the process colors or only enlarges the spot color, but not both at the same time.
Why is it that Photoshop has been around for 20 years, but I still can't scale up a simple circle that has a process and spot color mix?

Because after 20 years, you can't select the composite of the CMYK channels -- which you need to select in order to perform any action on a given layer, be it transforming, filtering, painting, blending or whatever -- and the spot channel simultaneously.
No question in my mind that someone here -- or elsewhere -- knows why this is.

  • How to import a spot color image in illustrator

    when importing a sport color tiff created in photoshop to illustrator the spot color image is not getting imported properly.

    kandasamy:
    PSDs will do nicely, and remain editable as well. Don't quite know what you mean by spot color TIFF as spots are not supported in this format.
    You should, however, be able to "paint" a grayscale tiff any spot you like in Illustrator.

  • [CS5] Resolution too low in part of 2 spot color image

    This is a 2 spot color book project, no black. I'm having trouble certifying the pdf because of one image.
    The image is a bitmap eps in one of the two spots. On top of it is a vector circle with a non-transparent stroke and a fill at 20%, in the other spot color.
    When rendered to a flattened pdf the parts with the transparency are 1x1 dpi.
    Now I could redo the image in Photoshop, add the circle there and save as a two-color eps of pdf. But is there a way to fix that in Indesign itself?

    This is not the illustration but it's similar
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ST2V3FJF
    I've made a second channel here for the second spot. Tried to certify this and that works.
    So am I right in thinking that you can not use transparency with spot bitmaps?
    The tiff option wasn't available for me.

  • One spot color image

    How do I convert an image into a one-color (one PMS color) image?

    Image > mode > grayscale. Then Image > mode > duotone. Pull down the "type" drop down menu to monotone and use the picker to pick your color. If you want a PMS, you'll have to click the color libraries button in the picker dialogue box.
    I would make the grayscale conversion after creating a black & white adjustment layer to optimize the grayscale conversion.
    If you don't need a PMS, but just a 4-color simulation, you can use a gradient map adjustment layer instead.

  • Cannot place a two-channel spot color image in ID CS2

    I have a psd file that consists of two pantone spot channels. When I try to place it in indesign, it says
    "Cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation."
    Why is this, is there any help? I have to find a way around it, I need to make a publication using only black and a shade of pantone green.
    I'm on Indesign CS2, Photoshop is CS4 and I'm on Mac OSX.

    PSD. I don't have much other choice in photoshop, it offers only psd formats once the file is in multichannel mode. Maybe I'm doing something wrong in photoshop?
    Basically I have a photo which is originally in 4 channel CMYK. But I need to convert it two tones only, black and pantone 363 M (or some similar green). What I did was that I deleted the C and M channel and turned Y into pantone. By doing so the image automatically switched from CMYK to Multichannel  mode and wouldn't let me choose any other. I don't know if that's the right way to do it?

  • Convert CMYK+SPOT (only selected bands) to RGB

    Hello,
    My context:
    I am dealing with multi-band TIFF files - CMYK + one or more SPOT colors.
    I am able to read the multi-band TIFF file using JAI and read the number of bands correctly.
    Also, I can read the value for any band for any pixel.
    For the SPOT colors I have Pantone CMYK equivalents.
    The bands are 8 bit in size.
    My problem:
    I need to be able to show/hide one or more bands and display the result.
    Is there a (mathematical) formula for converting CMYK+SPOT color bands to the RGB color space?
    A simple example:
    (CMYK scale 0-100)
    All bands: C, M, Y, K, SPOT1 (C=100,M=100,Y=0,K=0), SPOT2(C=100,M=0,Y=100,K=0)
    Bands selected: C, M, SPOT1
    PixelX values: C = 50, M = 10, SPOT1=80
    Can we calculate PixelX's RGB values to display on screen?
    Is there any documentation I can read anywhere on the subject?
    Thanks in advance,
    Georgi

  • Please, can I with help of Javascript change spot color values? for example by my color VARNISH with c:0,m:10,y:15,k:0 to make change to c:0,m:0,y:0,k:0? thank you

    Please, can I with help of Javascript change specific spot color values? for example, I have color named VARNISH with values c:0,m:10,y:15,k:0 and it would help me to make change to c:0,m:0,y:0,k:0 as a part of an action. Is it possible? Thank you

    Hi Kon Verter,
    you can change the values of your spot swatch, but you have to check many things before.
    e.g. you can do something like this:
    var Vcolor = app.activeDocument.swatches.getByName("Varnish");
    if (Vcolor.color.spot.colorType == ColorModel.SPOT && Vcolor.color.spot.spotKind == SpotColorKind.SPOTCMYK) {
        alert("Black value before: "+Vcolor.color.spot.color.black);
        Vcolor.color.spot.color.black= 0; // and so on
        alert("Black value after: "+Vcolor.color.spot.color.black);
    This will change the black value of the cmyk spot color with name Varnish to 0
    Have fun

  • Cannot change spot colors to process

    Using the Swatch Options feature to change a CMYK spot color to a CMYK process color does not work. I click on the Save button and nothing happens. Cannot change global feature either. Nor does "Delete Swatches" work with multiple selections, or "Merge" Anyone else having this Swatches malfunction?

    You can delete multiple swatches and you can merge swatches and if global swatches all instances of that color will change to the new color. If thye new color is cmyk swatch that will be the result for all instances of that color as long as it was applied by the fiormer swatch.
    Now the idea of merging multiple swatches does work but all selected swatches mergte to that one swatch.
    You might want to look at the Edit>EditColor>Recolor Art Feature.
    But it is possible you have something locked on your artwork and that might prevent the change.

  • CMYK layers showing up when spot color illos placed in InDesign CS3

    When I place an Illustrator CS3 (13.0.2) illustration into InDesign CS3 (5.0.3), Preflight tells me that CMYK colors are being used, even though the imported illustration has only 2 Pantone spot colors matching those used in the InDesign document (the 2 spot colors show up in Preflight as well). I double-checked to make sure they were spot colors, not CMYK. When I go to Separations Preview, my 2 spot color show up but nothing shows on the CMYK layers. I deleted all unused color swatches in my InDesign file (and the Illustrator file), and when I delete the illustration Preflight just shows the 2 PMS spot color that I'm using in the document. I'm using Mac OS 10.5.4 on a brand-new Quad-Core Xeon, if that matters.
    I've tried saving the illustration as both AI and EPS, and using CMYK and RGB color modes. I deleted all unused color swatches from both Illustrator and InDesign. For another test, I created a fresh Illustrator file that just had a box in 1 spot color and placed it in a fresh InDesign file, and again Preflight said that CMYK was being used. Besides the usual work-around of telling my service bureau to not output the CMYK film, does anyone have any idea of how to correct this? I've encountered it several times. (BTW, my service bureau didn't know what the problem is).
    This is my first visit and post here, so if I have violated some forum etiquette, please forgive me.

  • How can I convert CMYK PDF file to Spot Color from a standard Spot Library?

    Hi,
    I have PDF file that is in CMYK colors. Can I use Adobe Pro X to convert the document to Spot Color from a established spot library like the PANTONE PC? Is there a plugin to do it?
    Amit.

    In method HMAC, you have towards the bottom
    catch(Exception e) {}please change this to
    catch(Exception e)
                e.printStackTrace();
            }Note that using the sun.* classes, including the sun.misc.BASE64Encoder class, requires elevated privileges (see http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=483223&messageID=2255882).
    It is not difficult to write your own encoder/decoder class, or borrow one from someone else. Just google on "java base64 encoder".

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro is showing CMYK in spot color document

    Hi,
    I created a PDF using Adobe Illustrator CS4, and although I am only using 2 spot colors, both, Illustrator and Acrobat are showing CMYK plates in the Separations Preview and Output Preview. When I turn off the Spot plates, there is nothing in the document. Could you please help me figure out why is this happenning?
    Thanks

    Acrobat will always show the CMYK framework - even if there's no CMYK in there. You'll also notice that if the file contained RGB, calRGB, LAB etc - it also shows in the Output Preview as CMYK since it's in simulation mode (enough of that for now)!
    You might want to use the SHOW feature in Output Preview or even use a preflight profile to double check ...
    Cheers,

  • Adobe Illustrator is showing CMYK in spot color document

    Hi,

When I turn off the Spot plates, there is nothing in the document. Could you please help me figure out why is this happenning?

    Every file has CMYK plates in Illustrator or Acrobat. I think you are over-thinking things.
    The important issue is:
    Are there any items actually on the plates??
    Just because there are plates, does not mean those plates contain artwork. Both Illustrator and Acrobat Pro will always indicate CMYK plates, but if there is no CMYK data, they won't print.

  • Convert from spot color to custom CMYK value in Applescript

    I thought this would be very simple and it's not apparently. I am trying to convert a spot color into a custom CMYK value. Basically:
    tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
              set theList to every path item of current document
              repeat with k from 1 to count of theList
                        if fill color of item k of theList = {name:"Dark Green"} then
                                  set fill color of item k of theList to {cyan:0.0, magenta:100.0, yellow:0.0, black:0.0}
                        end if
              end repeat
    end tell
    But this script obviously doesn't work. From what I can tell, the fill color simply returns the tint of the item, not the name of it. I can't find anything that returns the name of a spot color so I can set the correct corresponding color. In the above example, I made the color obviously changed so I could visually see the result.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm a first time poster here.
    Thanks!

    tell application "Adobe Illustrator"

  • Converting CMYK colors to spot color?

    My publisher/printer requests a "hi-res pdf" as camera ready copy for a book I'm writing which will be printed in 2 colors (black and a spot color shade of blue).  The pages have images from various sources and text with CMYK approximations of that blue which I'd like to convert to the spot color.  Is there a convenient way to do this sort of operation through "preflight" or convert colors - so the final document has only K of CMYK and the spot color?

    Yes, see my reply here.
