Transforming EPC to BPMN in Aris Business Architect 7.1

I have read in the helpfilel for Business Architect that it is possible to transform from one type of diagram to another. It was also mentioned on the SAP BPM training that I have attended. However I am not able to find the function which will enable me to transform an EPC into a BPMN diagram.
This is of particular importance to me, as I would like to use EPC with Business users, and then generate a BPMN diagram to use as the basis for a Netweaver BPM implementation of the executable process.
The help references a Transform menu which does not exist in my version of the tool.
Does anyone know how to do this transformation, or if it is even possible, as the documentation suggests?

I don't think such an functionality exists as part of the Business Architect (but I am not sure). Both models are syntactically and semantically different, which means there are several different ways of doing the transformation. You can of course create an extension in ARISScript ( a serverside script) to do such a transformation.

  • EPC or BPMN

    Hi,
I am new to the BPA world.
To design a business process why do I have multiple choices like EPC and Buss Process Diagram with BPMN.
When is one better over the other?
Any place where I can read on it?
If I want to use BPEL later which diagram is better?
    regards
    Sanjiv

    Hi Sanjiv
take a look at the post
    Re: BPMN  in BPA 10.1.3.3
The post is about 1 year old but the general things in it are still valid. The current version of the BPMN is not 100% according to OMG standards.
See slide 18 in my presentation at the last OOW to find out more about the diagrams (e.g. EPC or BPMN) recommended for specific information domains.
The general rule we recommend for this is:
EPC: for non IT related modeling (business processes without IT content)
BPMN: for IT processes that should be used for BPEL fragment generation within the BPA Suite
You can link both diagram types in a hieratical structure so that you create a smooth crossover between both diagram types
Conclusion: use both diagram types in their strongest domains

  • Transforming EPC to BPEL - Semantic check error message

    Hi,
I am having problems with the semantic check in Oracle BPA Version 10.1.3.3. Functions in some processes are linked with entities from an ERM (as Input/Output).
When validating the EPC there is conflict with a rule in the category “rules for service-oriented EPC”. There is the following error message (translated by me): All objects, linked with functions via connections of the type “has input” or “has output” should be of the type “class” or mapped directly or indirectly on one or several objects of the type “class”, to be interpreted correctly by the transformation to BPEL.
How can I solve this? Is it possible to transform an EPC linked with entities?
Without providing any specific rule or description, there is a vague error message in the category rules for service-oriented BPMN model as well. For some the entities linked with functions, either as Input or Output, there is a line like: “'customer':: ???”
Is there any way I can get an error description? Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
due to the semantic check script performing the EPC -> BPEL transformation evaluation you will always end up with this message when performing the semantic check.
You can patch the semantic script / you can access the script within the Module Administrator / Semantic Checks.
Regarding your second problem I have no idea what check is producing this message.
You can run the transformation without checking the semantics. Have you tried this? Does it work?

  • JDeveloper SCA/BPMN: Types from Business Catalog not listed

I'm designing a BPMN flow in JDeveloper 11g. I try to create an implementation from an interface in the business catalog. Unfortunately, the interface that is in the catalog is not selectable. Nor is any base type. The selection box is completely empty. Any help is much appreciated. The following screenshot shows the empty dialog: http://www.eltes.se/BusinessCatalogTypeDialogEmpty.png. Please note the interface in the business catalog of the BPN Project Navigator, which is the one I expected to be able to pick for the implementation.
    /Johan

    Dan,
No I did not use Reusable or Manual processes, I use processes (asyn) with a Message Start event, and yes, I see them nicely in the Composite's Exposed Services and the wsdl's in the project's SOA Content folder. But my 'concern' is why the Business Catalog (BC) is not populated with BPMN processes like it is with BPEL processes. In the "Services" module of the BC I see the submodule BPEL with my BPEL processes so I had expected a submodule BPMN with my BPMN processes. From a business perspective I certainly would also see my business processes in the BC, so for me it seems 'unbalanced'
(I ran against this issue when using correlation:
In the process receiving an 'in flight' message I defined a Message catch event step in where I defined in the box "Message Exchange" Type :"Define Interface". Then building the process that throws the message to the in-flight process instance I defined the Message Throw event step and in that step I had expected to be able to use the Message Exchange Type "Use Interface" but that was not possible because I could only select BPEL services.
I solved this by selecting "Process call" in stead of "Use Interface".)

  • ARIS + Solution Manager

    Hi,
In my company they are planning to implement ARIS with SAP Solution Manager. I am trying to get some information regarding this. What are the benefits we get if we integrate ARIS with SAP solution manager and what are the pre-requisites to implement ARIS with SAP solution manager?
If you have some information about this please share with me
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sreekala.

    Hi Sreekala,
To implement their corporate strategy and business requirements, companies need a fast and efficient way of mapping business processes and new business concepts to the SAP environment. Developing and designing a seamless value chain in terms of Business Processes Management is also a key requirement for adopting SAPu2019s service-oriented architecture (SOA).
ARIS Business Architect for SAP and the ARIS Value Engineering for SAP method provide procedure models, methods, technologies, and reference content that make the flexible enterprise a reality. These are the first of many practical customer benefits to be generated from the strategic development cooperation between SAP and IDS Scheer.
In SAP implementation or upgrade projects ARIS Business Architect for SAP enables enterprises to define business management requirements from a process perspective. Requirements are mapped using business process models and can be enriched with all the necessary additional information and subjected to analysis. The bidirectional interface to SAP Solution Manager enables the models to be constructed on the basis of SAP reference content for a process-based SAP solution. They can be seamlessly implemented in the SAP Solution Manager. A special BPEL interface to SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (SAP NW PI) supports end-to-end integration of existing IT systems.
These process models therefore represent an important aid to making business decisions, while also ensuring that the required processes can be implemented in the SAP system.
    Your benefits:
Process-oriented and model-based requirements analysis and resulting business blueprint plus alignment of business processes with the SAP IT architecture.
Comparison and alignment of all end-to-end business processes with SAP reference processes using ARIS, SAP Solution Manager, and SAP NetWeaver Process Integration.
Integrated ARIS method ensures transparent documentation and communication of the processes to be implemented
    End-to-end process-based tests.

  • ARIS Modelling Tool

    Hello friends,
    1. What is ARIS tool ?
    2. How it works? What is the Function of ARIS tool?
    3. How it will integrate with SAP Solution Manager and XI? Why we need to integrate by ARIS?
    4. how to import modeled business processes (modeled in ARIS) to SAP XI or SAP Solution MAnager ?
5.Is there any SIMULATION process to run the ARIS model to know the Bussiness solution?
6.what are the prerequistions to install ARIS? Any plug -in is needed?
    7. Is there any diagram for integrate  SAP Solution Manager and with XI by ARIS tool?
    Thanks
    Silviya T

    Hello Silviya:
    1.  ARIS is SAP's preferred tool for Business Process Modeling & Analyis.  It is the Gartner & Forrester leader for this category.
2, 4, 7,  Can be answered via this weblink:
    http://www.ids-scheer.com/international/english/products/49637
    5.  ARIS offers a business process simulation component to step through a business process before it is implemented in a business application like SAP.
    6.  ARIS Business Architect for SAP NetWeaver loads on a java client or can be deployed via a browser.  A SAP GUI patch and 1 time solution manager transport is required to connect to SAP.

  • How to import database to ARIS

Regarding to my university project, i want to import database to ARIS Business Architect 7.0 platform, the databases are .aed file, but i still cannot find the way to do this. As far as i know, ARIS support only import file XML or WDSL only, isn't it?
Do you guys have any experience or information about this, please help me out; Thanks/

    Hi,
the standard extension of an ARIS DB File is *.adb
This file can be imported into BPA Suite within the Admin Module. Right click on the Server you want to import the DB in and choose "Restore".
Keep in mind that the ARIS and BPA Meta-Model is only approx. 98% the same. When you have content of the other 2% in your export it will fail.
Also you can have an *.acb file that represents a complete server configuration without data. This file can only be imported via the management console.

  • Error while calling the Web service: GetBprElements

    Hi Experts,
During integration of ARIS Business Architect for SAP Netweaver with SAP Solution Manager I tried to import the BPR using Transfer Repository option of the earlier. It showed me process completed with error or warning mentioned in the subject line.
    Can anybody suggest solution?
    Warm Regards
    Shatrughan Sharma

    Hi Swapna,
from your screenshot it seems that you actually try to call the service in your Data Source Expression field. You should set path to the WSDL file here actually - this could be either URL to SAP or to filesystem, as Anton suggested (this could be faster). Have you created endpoint binding for your service in transaction SOAMANAGER? If yes, then simply download the corresponding WSDL with binding or copy the URL which leads to it. But also test whether you are able to retrieve the WSDL without logging into SAP (close all browser windows and then open a new one otherwise session ID from other browser windows can be reused).
If you have to give username and password, then setup anonymous alias in transaction SICF, for example.
Pleas, check my previous post on the same subject here: Re: BCM7 IVR : SOAP request for client identification in CRM .
    Maybe it could help.
    Regards,

  • What's new in Oracle BPA 11G

    Hello,
Is there some note/ doc/ whitepare etc for what are the new features in Oracle BPA 11G?
    regards
    Sanjiv

    Hi Sanjiv,
    * there is a small section ("New Features introduced in this release") within the release notes of BPA 11g: http://download.oracle.com/otn/nt/bpa/Oracle_BPA_Suite_11gR1_ReleaseNotes.doc
    * you can find further details ("What's new...") in the BPA Help-Section after installation
    * finally have a look to the Delta-Paper of ARIS 7.1 from IDS Scheer: http://www.ids-scheer.com/set/6473/ARIS%20Platform%20702-71%20DP%20en.pdf. Concentrate on "Differences in the Web environment from version 7.1" -> ARIS Business Architect, ARIS SOA Architect
    I hope this helps,

  • Solution Manager BPR

Does the SolMan-BPR-ARIS-Integration (http://www.ids-scheer.com/en/ARIS/ARIS_Platform/ARIS_Business_Architect_for_SAP/3743.html ) use an interface open to the public? If yes, were can I finde some more information about it.
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Regards,
    Ronald

    Hi,
yes, this runs all through JCo. But sapjco3.jar is not yet supported by IDS Scheer only the 2 versions. You get [the JCo Download|https://websmp203.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000719346&] at the SAP Marketplace, if you own a SAP Login . Here is a  [DOS-Java JCo (2.1.8) screenshot|http://www.fahrrad-kleuskens.de/ARIS-SAP-JCO-DOS.JPG] which shows a connection to a SAP Server. This is the  [sourcecode|http://www.fahrrad-kleuskens.de/ARIS-SAP-JCO-DOS-Java.JPG]  for the above example.
If you do not have an ARIS Business Architect for SAP and no SAP System too at the local server, you can connect through the ARIS Business Server 7.1 in every ARIS Database and from there in every SAP System you want.
    I added a [ARIS BS 7.1 - VPN Handout|http://www.aris-user.de/aris/viewtopic.php?p=4722#4722] at IDS Scheer:
You can see here a [JCo Connection to SolMan screenshot|http://www.fahrrad-kleuskens.de/ARIS-SAP-JCO1.JPG]  . And in the second  [JCo Connection to ERP ECC6 screenshot|http://www.fahrrad-kleuskens.de/ARIS-SAP-JCO2.JPG] you see the function name, which you can for example use in SAP ERP ECC6 to be connected to ARIS. If you implement this function Z_SOLAR_READ_INSTALLED_COMPS in SAP ERP ECC6 correctly, you can connect ARIS even with ECC6 .
I did a little test. I implemented a test function in SAP ERP ECC6 with the function name Z_SOLAR_READ_INSTALLED_COMPS,
which I added to the function group Z_SP_FUNCTION.
After that I called the SAP ERP ECC6 System from Aris through JCo with the standard menu in ARIS ... and I got a result. Now the [ARIS JCo Function in ERP ECC6 |http://www.fahrrad-kleuskens.de/ARIS-SAP-JCO3.JPG] is found
So I rest with the best regards

  • Database (in)dependence

we got a two day training on ARIS Business Designer last week and now have both the IDS Sheer and the Oracle editions installed on my laptop.
ARIS Business Architect version is 7.0.2.155701
    Oracle Business Process Architect 7.0.1.163410
The instructor asked us to use the restore function to setup the lab environment.
When I try to load the backup into the Oracle environment I get the next error message:
Could not load java class :C:\..\LocalServer\temp\olite\sp\source\com\idssheer\aris\server\dll\mapimpl\olite\sp\AARISDB_9OnDeleteSetNull.java
According to the instructor. the ARIS install is running a Sybase SQL server. Somewhere an Oracle database config setting needs to be changed.
    Anyone with a clue?

Hmm, no sorry. We only have a temporary license for a month for IDS BA. After that it's just the public Oracle BPA edition.
I can send the training database to reproduce the error.
Just thinking: what would happen with the demo70 database?
Guess what? After 4 minutes of loading time: same error, now with AARISDB_10OnDeleteSetNull
    Interesting fact:
    BPA demo70 database size: 3,085 KB (aedfile_70)
    ARIS demo70 database size: 4,902 KB (aedfile_70)
Logical next step: restore the original (small) demo70 database into Oracle BPA.
SURPRISE: Same error message!!!!!!!! I can not reload the demo70 database.
Bottomline: script to reproduce the problem:
    start Oracle BA
    backup the demo70 database
delete the demo70 database (after logging out)
    restore the demo70 database
Don't try this at home: you have to reinstall the BPA suite to get your demo70 database back.
