Transition Effect Question

Can anyone tell me what Joe is using below to get that transition in the beginning of the following clip below:
(Its @ 7 seconds)
http://www.joe-shaw.co.uk/
it looks like light rays but each ray looks more thick in his video

A matte is similar to an Alpha channel. Using a keyer, you might pick out a particular color or brightness in an image and use it to cut a "hole" into which another image element could be placed discreetly or restrict an effect to a particular area.
Usually, everything that is black in the matte will determine where the solid background shows through. White will show the superimposed, solid foreground or the effect. Areas of gray are more or less transparent. The matte can be "flipped" to work in the opposite way too.
In many editing and compositing packages mattes can be keyframed, so that different shades or brightness values are affected over time. The poster in the linked video starts with the brightest areas and then picks up some darker values. The rays shine through the different parts of the matte as the values change.

  • Browser and transition/effects questions

Sorry Guys n Gals, me again!
    Simple q's for you all...
Firstly, when I view browser by "large icons" is there anyway I can arrange the clips by order they were captured? I can do this as a list but for some reason cant do it in "large icon" view!
Secondly, when I apply a transition or effect can I preview it (like in i-movie) before rendering it?
    Thanks
    Alps

    Ta Gary.
Bit of a bu**er that Apple didn't allow us to have order of capture easier on icon view!! I really dont think I have the patience to re-label all my captured clips after I've captured em!!
Oh, and after I typed the [stupid] question of "how to preview effects/transitions" I realised how stupid a question it was. I think I've figured it out now!
Now just wait for my next silly question/s............

  • N97 Transition Effect Problem

As you all know that the N97 user interface is not attractive due to the lack of the real transition effects, my 5800 have a nice iphone like transitions, but for the N97 the transition effect is very simple! Only some sliding menus and that’s it!! I wonder where is the screen orientation swivel effect we've seen in early N97 prototype videos? However, once I enable the transition effects on my N97 it will start to become unstable with crashes and it will affect some other programs like the photo gallery (will hang sometimes and gives low res pictures or just the whole program will go to the background while using the zoom button!) and the Web browser will start to display mid and large websites without images!!! I tried to reload the page so many times but only the text appears without any image! After trying so many times at last the page loaded successfully with all images but my happiness didn't last as I discovered that the phone turned off the transition effects automatically! When I went to the themes menu to check, it was turned on but actually it’s not working as the phone disabled it in order to load the web page! It happened to my three times since I updated my firmware last week (V 11)! I think this is because of the lack of enough RAM, I removed all the online widgets from the home screen (like facebook and accuweather) and just used contacts, programs, calendar, email, and music shortcuts which gave me additional 5 MB of free RAM and the phone felt more stable but still can’t handle the transition effects and proper Web pages display simultaneously! My 5800 handles web pages better and display all images even if the transition effects are turned on! I hope Nokia will fix these issues and gives us an option to disable the Widgets and Kinetic scrolling (Make the UI just like the 5800) in order to have more free RAM and enjoy full transition effects and proper Web Browsing with better stability just like the 5800.

Any updates on the effects? I wrote to Nokia support, I'm in Russia, they replied.
I have illustrated my question with the links to youtube where it is clearly visible how the UI rotates and other animation effects when opening the widgets.
My translation of the official reply:
"In  firmware version 11 those effects do work! Try to resent the phone to the factory settings by typing: *#7780#, standard lock code is  - 12345 or try to format the phone memory. Do your data and contacts back up using PC Suite .  enter *#7370# (formats phone memory), enter the code 12345 the phone will resent. Then restore your back up."

  • Seeing transitions, effects, presets in bins

Hi, new user just upgraded from ELements. Loving all the new features and trying to get accustomed to the subtle differences that affect the way I work. One thing I'm wondering is there any way to have the thumbnail view (and motion preview) of the transitions, effects and presets in the bins? This is an option in Elements and I liked it because you get a sense of what these do before you apply them.

    Unfortunately not in PPro.
You will also find links to many free tutorials in the
Premiere Pro Wiki that will quickly
show you how things are done in PPro.

  • Dreamweaver Help | CSS3 transition effects

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/using/css3-transition-effects.html

Actually, dmello is correct. Dreamweaver did have a JavaScript-based Timeline panel. If I remember correctly, it was removed in Dreamweaver 8 (or maybe CS3), but there was such an outcry, an updater was issued to reinstate it. However, the code was so ancient, the Timeline panel was permanently removed in Dreamweaver CS4.
Edge Animate is much more powerful. What's more, you could get a perpetual license to version 1.0 of Edge Animate even with a free Creative Cloud account. I'm not sure if that offer is still available because the current version of Edge Animate is now 1.5, but it's worth checking if you don't have a full Creative Cloud account and you're looking for a replacement for the Timeline panel. Of course, with a full Creative Cloud subscription, you get the latest version of Edge Animate and any future updates.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 Loose transition effect after exporting.

Hey everyone.  Still a little new to Pro, but have searched for an answer to this question with no luck.  I have about a 4 minute project which consists of titles, still images and video and audio.  I have 5 opening titles, each 3 seconds long.  I have set the 'dip to black' transition effect between each of them.  After exporting to media - Windows AVI, the effect is gone on just these clips.  All other transitions work great.  I am doing this on my Vista Ultimate Dual Core 1.8 GHz 32-bit PC with 3GB of RAM.  I am exporing to NTSC DV.
I did try exporting the exact same project on my work laptop.  Windows XP, 1.7GHz with 1GB of RAM and it worked just fine.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you in advance.

The glow is best done with a plugin from trapcode called Shine.  They also have an effect called sparkle which should accomplish the effect in your video example.
Shine is preetty much a standard plugin for AE or Pr.  Its a bit overused though.
    http://www.trapcode.com/products_shine.html
In fact I did a tutorial for Shine a while back.  Maybe it will help.  Though it was done on Pr ver 1; but the plugin works the same.

  • Transition Effects / Handles

Im using a Canon XL2 to tape and capture my footage (DV NTSC)..
Once I'm editing and adding transition effect on FCP 5.1.1 i find that it only lets me put 1sec transitions. If i want to make the transition anywhere longer than 1sec i have to have some sort of "handle" on the clip(s) my question is...Is there any way to have the computer automatiaclly add 1second handles to the start and end of each clip (i use the capture now feature and capture the whole tape then use the DV start/stop detect and make subclips)....i shoot weddings so im dealing with 200plus clips on any given project and it is very time consuming to have to munually add 1sec handles to the start/end of each clip just to be able to use a 2sec video and/or audio transition..thanks for anyhelp anybody can provide, it's greatly appreciated

dude ... this is what editing is! surely you don't use every frame of every clip you shoot? you look at the clip, you choose your in-point and out-point, whatever comes before the in-point or after the out-point is the handle you have left to play with ...if theres not enough space for a 2 sec dissolve then choose a new outpoint/inpoint or choose a shorter transition
if you want auto handles then you need to use iMovie, that will do what you want as it is designed for those who dont really "edit".
    cheers

  • Third party Flash transition effects

Can third party transition effects be used in Catalyst?

The effect code would not be accessible to Catalyst. You can use Flash Profession to animate the item with the effect you want, then import that swf into Flash Catalyst. FC does allow you to play and stop a swf.
The imported swf should be published with player 10.1 as the target.
    Hope this helps,

  • How do I create an orange flash transition effect using Adobe Premiere CS6?

I am trying to create an orange flash transition effect using Adobe Premiere CS6 with my MAC computer.

    Try this:
Add Cross Dissolve, cut and nest
Add a Fast Blur to the nest and tweak as in first screendump
Superimpose orange Color Matte and tweak as in second screendump
Make (fixed) effects into presets for future use.
    Good luck.

  • DVD Menu Transition Effects

I have successfully created a motion graphic DVD menu in AE, which I have rendered to be authored in Encore. The theme is horror/thriller with thriller theme for the BG music. There are two(2) selecitons on the main menu:
    Play Movie         Bonus Features
When the user chooses Play Movie, I would like a transition effect leading to the main video to be played. And maybe a different transition effect when the user selects Bonus Features before getting into the submenu of bonus features.
Can anyone sugguest any resources (e.g., books, manuals, blogs, video resources, courses, etc.) that can provide a tutorial on how to perform the procedure(s) in AE and EN?
Your assistance would be highly appreciated.

The ones I am seeing are not for transitions specifically - quite a few bad links. And the ones I see may be for older versions.

  • Is there a "Flash or White Wash" transition effect in FCP?

    Hey guys,
I'm trying to get a transition effect of a "white Wash or like a Flash" in FCP5? It's an effect you see on tv when people get a make over from looking bad to looking really cool with a transition that looks like a flash or white wash.
    Anyone please,
    Thanks in advance,
    Zia

I'm actually a fan of a combination of both Tom's and Andy's method.
Being old enough to remember film and the cool effects you'd get when stopping the camera (a number of frames that went to white as the film slowed in the gate to a stop-- number of frames depended totally on the camera. Asynchronous cameras were usually longer 6 frames or so, and the Arri's were usually 2 at most.)
Anyway, if you warp out a frame or two with the CC and use them in your opacity ramp, you can get some really cool stuff.

  • Keynote '09: 2 transition effects per slide initiated by 2 hyperlinks?

I want to do a flip book.  So far it looks great.
I'm using forward and back hyperlinks to transition b/w slides.
Problem: I can only get one style of transition effects/slide, so when I flip back to a previous slide the flip animation looks like I'm flipping forward.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Ok... After more scouring, I found this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2355380?start=0&tstart=0
Which had this part buried in it:
Remove the navigation (rip out the hyperlinks), set the presentation to run as a Normal Presentation, then Share>QuickTime>Fixed Timing. That's right, I said Fixed Timing. Turns out me and a lot of other people (and yes, some tier 1 support folk at Apple) misunderstood Fixed Timing. Fixed Timing lets a Normal presentation run with the audio and moves on to the next slide when the audio is finished - which is exactly what I wanted (the QuickTime controls automatically appear after the movie is rendered). Slide Duration is actually the delay between slides so set this to 1 second and Build Duration affects the timing of the Builds, but I also set this to 1 second since it was destined for web delivery (bandwidth!).
I struck thru the first part b/c that wasn't relevant to my issue, BUT... what WAS relevant was removing all of my carefully timed slide delay transitions, then using the above method. It worked flawlessly, as far as I can tell. It seems without documentation or help of any kind (that I could find) no one, even Apple support staff, knows what the true function of Fixed Timing is supposed to be. So hopefully, if someone else stumbles across this post, they'll be able to do the right thing, from the start and not waste hours with expensive or additional programs and work arounds.
Follow the above method and still get your timed HD quality Quicktime .mov.

  • Cross-fade effect missing from transition effects

I used to export slide-shows from image folders with QuickTime, and on Tiger and PowerMac PPC G4 that worked fine choosing cross-fade transitions.
There was also the possibility to export slide-shows with Graphic Converter (using QuickTime effects), and the cross-fade transition was available.
Now, with Leopard and QuickTime 7.5 the cross-fade (aka dissolve transition) is missing from the transition effects. Is that a bug ? Is there a way to recover that transition effect ? I re-installed QuickTime, but that didn't changed things.
    Thanks for any input...
    N.

I still have my PowerMac G4 with all things installed, so I checked in QuickTime the slide-show export, and it doesn't have options for transitions in the effects. Oups !
So I guess it's only related to Graphic Converter 5.9.5 where in the transitions the cross-fade isn't available anymore when I upgraded to Leopard. Maybe I should upgrade Graphic Converter.
Anyway, thanks for the iPhoto tip, but I can't find where I can change the default settings...

  • Transition effects in Wizard not available

I am making a wizard, and it works okay, but....
The transition effect dropdown box is disabled.
How can I enable it to choose other effects?
    UPDATE:
I discovered that this option is only enabled in Flash.
Same with the Toolbar. I can define a Toolbar, but in Web Dynpro it is simply not shown...:-((

This is correct, the transition effects are a part of the Flash runtime.

    Hello Forums:
I'm wondering how the transition effects on this website is done:

How does the creator organize his layers and animation so that the site zooms out and zooms back in?
    Thanks.

Try to make a few more transitional states in between with varying levels of opacity for each picture (and play with the State Delay time). Other than that, i don't think Fireworks has transitional effects for slideshows (i may be wrong).
