Transition "ghosts"

I have some video in the background of the menu, buttons to the side and some fonts for the title. As soon as you press a button the video cuts to black, leaving the fonts and buttons to fade through black. The transition is the default "fade through black". How can I get the video to fade with the fonts and buttons?

Is this in the simulator? The simulator doesn't necessarilly show you what you'd really see. Build the project and view the video TS folder on the MAc dvd player--see what it looks like there.
If it's on the burned disk, well let's just say in my experience the DVDSP transitions don't work too well. They do some screwy stuff.
Instead of using DVDSP transitions, build a movie with the transition in FCP, etc. put that movie in a menu. Instead of having the button jump to the track, have it jump to the transition movie menu. Have a 1 second time out on the menu go to the track to play your show.
So it will be select button on main menu, jump to menu which plays transition, time out to track to play show. Lots of H'wood dvd's do it this way.

  • Ghost Images During Slideshow Transitions

I have just made a slideshow DVD for a friend with his holiday snaps of New Zealand. There were 592 photos and I used the Dissolve transition. When it plays, ghost images come up during the transition. They seem to be quite random images; screen shots of various things mainly. Sometimes the corner of an open folder, sometimes the main menu picture.
If I start over, the ghost images change but they still appear.
    Can anyone help with this?

In addition to the good advice posted above you also have other software options that specialize in slideshows:

  • CS3 Premiere Still Image Ghost Effect Before Transition

I have a timeline with photos that I have automated to the timeline using the default transition between photos. When I render out the video and burn it to disc (the images with dark or black backgrounds are the most noticable) you can see the next image in line that is to be shown briefly through the image that is currently on screen. It's almost like a ghosting effect of the next image like it is in a holding pattern waiting to dissolve into the image. This seems to occur throughout the timeline but as I said, it is much more obvious on images with dark or black backgrounds.
I'm pretty sure I've had this problem in the past and don't remember how I resolved it. In rendering, I render out to an NTSC DV AVI file and import into Encore 2 and let Encore 2 handle the file rendering.
If someone could enlighten me on what the issue may be that I could quickly resolve, I would appreciate it. In the meantime, I will try other ways of kicking the file out to see if I get any better desired results.
    Thanks in advance.

can you put a screenshot of your timeline with the still images on it here ???? that might help us see what your transistions
are doing etc...tell us more about what transition you're using ( cross dissolve ? ..) stuff like that...

  • Final Cut Express Ghosting Transitions

I am teaching Final Cut Express to my students and they are having ocassional problems with transitions. When a transition is added between two clips ocassionally they get a ghost image from another part of the video in the middle of the transition. We trided different transitons and deleting the transiton then readding the transition but we still get the ghost image. Any ideas why? What can we do ti correct this?

"Couldn't that be an A-B solution if the end of A or the start of B is clipped too short for comfortable transition?"
If it works for you then go with it.
"but sometimes the camera doesn't get started in enough time. When that happens and you want the absolute beginning of what is on tape"
That makes things really hard for the edit controller, in our case FCE.
FCE needs to have at least 3 seconds pre-roll. As a tape management thing I always record at least 30 seconds - 1 minute of black onto a new tape. Two reasons, firstly you have pre-roll. Secondly, damage to tape occurs during threading/unthreading. Tapes are best rewound to the start and inserted/ejected here where the mechanical threading/unthreading will not upset your important pictures.
The same applies to the end of the tape if.

  • Ghosts in Transitions

I'm putting a plain dissolve between clips and sometimes I get a "ghost" of a clip that doesn't even exist on the timeline causing a blip in the transition. The ghost clip is in clips that are in my browser, but nothing that I have edited to the timeline. Any suggestions?
    G3   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

What's happening is that when you make a transition, FCP wants to complete the transition where you wanted to originally cut the footage in the timeline. FCP automatically adds in extra footage in the timeline so that the transition completes where you originally cut the material. This way, all footage that you wanted the viewer to see is seen.
This means if you drag footage into the timeline that JUST changed (i.e. you drag in shot of soccer ball, but JUST before that shot in the clip in the browser there was a shot of a boy) you'll experience that overlap.
To solve it, you can either shorten the transition so less "handles" are made, or you can cut to the new shot a little later in the timeline (like by 20 frames).

  • IMovie 6.0.3 (Title/Transitions/FX) Problems

I have been reading lots of similar problems, and I have tried to remedy based upon previous posts. However, nothing seems to have helped when using the latest iMovie. (prefs, privs, etc)
I often receive a black clip when I try to speed up or elongate clip. I do a lot of high school sports editing, and this feature comes in very handy. Unfortunately, this is only one of those that are not usable. Another problem, is that upon importing fullscreen graphics, it converts to movie, and shows up as black.
Is this one of those bugs that came in iMovie HD, and has there been a work around yet? I am a little disheartened at the problems I am now running into these days in iMovie.
Should I consider starting from scratch with this 5 hr import? I wanna make my honeymoon vid/DVD well edited.
At a loss! Thanks for your help!

    Rejam,
Apple once offered something called Plugin Pack 2.2. It was a collection of additional plugins for iMovie.
Some of them are no longer compatible with iMovie HD. Some have been incorporated into the stock set that iMovie now comes with.
Here's the list of plugins from that old Plugin Pack that I think may have issues and/or have been incorporated into iMovie's stock collection.
    EFFECTS
    Circle Transition
    Flash
    Ghost Tails
    Mirror
    NSquare
    Radial Transition
    Wash Transitions
    TITLES
    Subtitles
    Zoom Titles
If you do have any of these they'll likely be in located here:

  • Audio dropout, movie sync, transition problems IDVD9

I created a 55 minute DVD slideshow. Looks great on computer, but when I burn it the following errors occur:
Audio drops out for about 5 seconds intermittently

Cross fade transitions: When when one picture transitions to the next, the first picture ghosts in the background of current picture.

  • Adding transitions

I've made several iMovies in both version 5 and 6. Something has happened that hasn't before.
When I try to add transitions to my movie (all still frames with Ken Burns), I get a message that reads:
    An unknown error occurred.
You may b eable to continue without any problems.
You may also wish to save, quit, and re-launch
    iMovie HD.
Anybody have this happen to them before? If so, any solutions?
PowerBook G4 15, 20GB iPod   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   1.67 GHz, 1GB DDR SDRAM, SuperDrive, AirPort Extreme Base Station

I had this happen to me just recently. In reading the documentation for iMovie, I learned that iMovie uses a timeslice from each clip to create the transition. Each clip then loses a certain amount of time in order to create the transition for the amount of time you specify. If you happen to delete the transition by either clicking on it and pressing the delete key or pressing the control key and clicking the transition then choosing clear from the submenu, you will get the error message when you try to reapply a transition. If you choose cut instead of clear, the portions used for the transition will appear as duplicate clips but in a smaller time frame, you can then delete the duplicate clips using the cut command. This is the only work around (cut instead of clear or delete) I could find to circumvent the error message. I can now reapply a transition. Now the only problem I have is when I try to lengthen the clip time I get a stutter and ghost image of the previous clip. I'll keep researching and try to find a solution.

  • Ghosting/blurring in FLV files

    Hi all,
I have built some pretty long timeline animations that I am exporting as .mov files and then converting to .flv.
My quicktime settings from flash are all set right up high so the final .mov files are very high quality. I then run them through Adobe Media Encoder CS4 to create my flvs with and alpha channel.
I have run this process with 45 different files (some several times as amends are made) and the results have always been fine but after the last round of amends one file is coming out with ghosting and tracers on all the movement. Other files under the same profiles look fine and the mov for the problem one looks fine also.
I have tried encoding on different machines (Mac and PC) with many different settings and while the results are different each time they always contain this ghosting effect.
The files are built mostly of png files being transitioned around the stage. They are long (up to 4000 frames) but all are very similar so why this one should be causing problems is puzzling.
Anyone have any insights in to encode settings either in flash or Media Encoder that might help to fix this issue.
    Thanks alot

It is the same file. One thing that might be a factor - I encode in Mpeg4 which is the only section of Sorenson that seems to deliver the H.264 codec. This produces .f4v files which, because of the way my site has been designed (not by me) I have to re name .flv  Not sure if that is relevant. How do the videos look to you? as I say - they play totally smooth on my Mac book pro.  Should I try a different codec. I would happily drop some picture quality if I could get the motion smoother. I am encoding 2 pass vbr with a max bit rate of about 1300Kbps.  Thanks for your help. Nick

  • Variable speed transitions?

    Hi,
I want to set up a transition (cube spin in this case) where i can vary the speed of the transition similar to doing time remap but on the transition.
I'd like it to get progressivley faster, like a tween in flash
    any ideas?
    thanks,
    andy
    g5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

thing with doing that is that i get alot of ghostly frames.. it just doesnt look very clean. is there a way of stopping the ghosting do you think?
i take it there's no way of adding keyframes to the transition itself? i suppose i could apply the same transition multiple times tweaking the start and end %s on each one... but that sounds nightmarish
    thanks

  • Series of static gfx - next graphic ghosts into last few seconds of each

Hi all...I've got a really weird problem with Compressor. I'm taking an interlaced AVI / MOV (I've tried both) and trying to encode to MPEG-2 for DVD. The video looks great, but there are parts of it where I dissolve between a series of static graphics. In each graphic, a couple of seconds before the transition, the next graphic ghosts into the video.
I've tried just about everything, including the manual and Google I've changed the GOP length and pretty much every other setting I have thought of, but nothing tunes this out.
Am I the only one running into this goofy problem?
    Thanks,

  • How to remove ghost images in Captivate 7?

Our company recently upgraded us from Captivate 4 to 7. In doing a software simulation, I have noticed that ghost lines appear as the previous screen transitions into the next -- particularly when scrolling -- and doesn't appear until it's in the browser window (it's not visible on the Captivate project itself). This did not occur in Captivate 4. I have searched this discussion board and tried recording at the actual resolution it will be shown, as well as changing the SWF Size and Quality to high, with the compression turned off. I have checked the results in several browsers (IE 8, Firefox, Chrome) and the results are visible on all.
The hopeful outcome is both a SWF and HTML5 file (for accessibility from old and new browsers, as well as mobile devices). Any ideas on what else I can do to remove these images? Many thanks!

For me, the problem only occurs when I publish my project as HTML scalable. Even when I add the HTML and CSS lines after publishing, the lines appear where they didn't before.
    Quality settings are right.
This issue is very annoying since I need to be able to publish scalable projects. Our client's employees work on a number of different resolutions. Making the project non-scalable will cut of part of the project on some screens...
A solution would be highly appreciated.

  • Adding video transitions

I am using the default 1 second fade in fade out video transition. I was able to successfully do one transition but now it will not repeat the process. I have enough footage"handles" on either end of the clips to support it but it will only add a fade in transition. I have tried the transition in a different location but it still wont work. I don't think I'm not doing anything differently than I did first time around. What's the deal?

Try this...press the 's' key, then click on and hold both of the clips you're trying to add the transition to. You should see a 'ghost image' of any available media before or after the end of the clip.
If one of the clips doesn't show extra media available, then that's the problem.
If this shows both clips with plenty of media (handles), then you should tell us what format your working with and any other details that might help us help you.

  • Removing Ghosted Plugins

Hi, I'm on a Single-Quad Core Mac Pro running Lion.  I just upgraded to Premiere Pro CC 7.1.  I ran the update for my FilmImpact transition plugins that relased for the CC 7.1.  When I ran the update I was supposed to remove the original plugins in the Extension Manager by clicking "Remove" first and then installing the update.  However, Extension Manager is new to me and I didn't realize this so I just installed over the old plugins.  Extension Manager detected the old plugins and asked me if I wanted to overwrite them with the new one.  I said yes.  This worked, as the updates installed and are functional.  However, now I have the "ghost" of the old plugins too, side by side with the new ones.  I've tried removing them via Extension Manager, but clicking "Remove" or "Enable" only removes the new, updated transition effects, not the old ones.  I can't figure out how to get rid of the old ones.  Any ideas??
    Thanks

MacKeeper is only good for screwing up Macs.
1! MacKeeper is malware and should be renamed MacLooser.
    Thus said:
Your plug-ins could be installed either  in your User Library
        your Home folder > Library > Application Support > Aperture > Plug-Ins
    or the System Library
         your MacintoshHD > Library > Application Support > Aperture > Plug-Ins
Before removing these Plug-Ins folder you need to quit Aperture and to login off and log in again, to be sure Aperture really quit. With the new process model in MacOS Lion you cannot be sure that Aperture really terminates when you are quitting it.
