Transition Help

Hi,
This is my first post here! I've worked with Adobe Premiere 6 before buying Final Cut Studio recently.
I need help with how to 'pause' transitions.
E.g. I have put an Iris Transition on to a clip. I want it to open up to 20%, pause for about 10 seconds on the clip and then open up completely to 100%. I could do this in Premiere 6 but am finding it hard to master in Final Cut. Can anybody help? Thanks in anticipation.

Is the clip inside the iris transition at 20% still
in motion (or playing)?
Which version of FCP do you have?
This might work with keyframes but I will work on
that and see as well as wait for your reply.

I have Final Cut Pro 5.1.
Yes, the clip is in motion. Basically, the iris opens to, say 20%, on the clip and then pauses for a few seconds and then opens up, on to the clip still in motion. A bit like the opening to a Bond movie (although in that case the 'iris' moves across the screen).

Import iPhotos with no transition help please!

I have 50 stills of a sunset that I want to just go from one photo to the next without any transitions.
iMovie is automatically adding transitions of zoom-in zoom-out. I do not want that. I don't want any transitions at all.
Any help would be very appreciated, thank you!!!

You can change the default in Project Properties (FILE/PROJECT PROPERTIES). Set the default to FIT to have the whole photo, but letterboxed, or select CROP to have the photo cropped to fit the aspect ratio of the project and fill the screen.
You can also change this on a photo by photo basis with the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns Tool.

Creating Faux Loader for State to State Transition - HELP.

Good day everyone.
I need help making a loader that will be in between states.
I have a file that has multiple embedded Custom Components in order to circumvent the 20 page limit. Since one of the components has a large number of states within it it takes some time in order to get into the state. Let me illustrate. The project is a world map with specific regions (US, Latin America, etc). which are then separated into specific countries/states/provinces. An example flow is diagramed here:
WORLD MAP
     >US BUTTON
          >US COMPONENT
               >RHODE ISLAND
               >MASSACHUSETTS
               >NORTH DAKOTA, ETC...
     >LATIN AMERICA BUTTON
          >LA COMPONENT
               >MEXICO
               >CHILE, ETC...
     >EUROPE, AFRICA, ETC...
Now what is happening is when I render out the SWF since there are so many STATES (15) in the US component it takes approximately 12 seconds to load that portion of the SWF over the WEB.
Is there anyway I can get a loader to appear while it is loading the larger Custom Components?
I do not have access to Flash Builder or a developer with FB so that option is out.
I tried creating a faux/fake loader in the US button that was similar to the default loader that FC creates but I've seem to run into a few problems.
First, is there anyway to a sequence play before a transition begins/ends? I attempted to do this by creating ANOTHER custom component that would have an action sequence but for some reason that did not work. It was expecting a MOUSE EVENT which was not possible since it the mouse event already happened.
I'm at a loss here for how I can complete this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and if I need clarify further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Have you explored the integrated lucene search functionality? Basically you can allow lucene to index the asset types you want to search in and create a search form that queries the index. The internal search in the contributor UI is using the same method.
Check the developers guide page: 857 Public Site Search, this could be used for your purpose as well... On the authoring environment all asset types are already enabled to be indexed.

Clips won't take a transition - help

So here's the deal
The footage I shot will take a cross dissolve or any other transition for that matter when I put the clips joined together on a time line
But, I used two stock clips from a site (where I obtained license and paid) and joined those and tried to add across dissolve and the cross dissolve is like .01 seconds and it won't expand. It's a tiny sliver inbetween the clips. I can't even expand the time on the transition and it's not really showing a transition becaure it's so thin
The 2 stock clips have extension of MOV as they are moving files but when I click on get info for the clips it states
Kind: Quicktime Movie
Codecs: Photo jpeg, integer
Does that have something to do with it?
Why won't those clips take a transition?

Final Cut Pro X Transition Help

Hey everyone, I need some help with a project I'm currently working on. I'm making it so it looks like a very cheap and stupid infomercial type thing, so I'm using tons of cheap transitions and effects and such. One thing that is really annoying me though is the motion blur on all of the FCPX transitions, even on the most basic ones like slide, wipe, etc. All I'm asking is if there's a way to get rid of the motion blur.

There is no motion blur on any transitions other than the Blur ones.
You must be doing something wrong but without detailed info about your workflow we cannot guess what that might be.
Just one remote possibility comes to mind . . . . it could be that they need rendering to view clearly.

Simple transitions help for an FCP newbee

Am moving from iMovie6 to Final Cut Pro 5 as I didn't like iMovie8 and there's been a lot of talk on the iMovie board about how FCP will probably work better for people like me...
I'm a real newbee to FCP so I'm going to embarrass myself here and ask a really simple question that I can't for the life of me get an answer to.
How do you add a simple fade up to the start of a clip? It would seem that the Fade in-Fade out Dissolves in Effects is designed to join two different clips. I have a clip that cuts to black and the next clip I want to start on a fade up from black.
How do I do this?
Also, how do I do a really simple fade to black???
Forgive me for asking such a dumb question but I just can't find the answer in the Help file (guess the question is way too simple!).

I just tried ramping the clips opacity and I got my fade in just fine, but in order to get the clip fading in from black, I had to go back to the rushes, reselect the clip I wanted and then when the cursor was at the start of the clip, open the opacity and adjust it to go from 0 to 100 in 12 frames. Then I added this clip to my timeline via overwrite, thereby overwriting the same (old) clip that didn't have the fade in. However, I'm not quite ready to mark this question as answered as how do I now add a fade in on a clip that is already in my timeline? Do I have to make the transition decision before I add the clip to the time line or is there some clever way of adjusting the opacity of the clip once it is in the time line and therefore in the edit?

Slide/Push transition help

I'm working on a video using various slide/push transitions, and what I need help with is creating a way for all the sliding clips move at the same time, as one continuous slide/push similar to this Star Wars parody clip using the "Dallas" theme :

SL to Lion Transition Help Please!

Hello Everyone
Hearing complains of how "shabby and bad" Lion was I decided to create a new partition to "test it out" but imediatley after I installed it I completely fell in love with it. My question is, can I delete the Lion partition, free all that space (50 GB) and then install Lion over SL? I don't want to try anything before I hear from you because I've got TONS of info in my main SL partition which I don't want to loose. Also, if I do install Lion over SL, will ALL my files stay where they are (i.e, iTunes Library, iPhoto Photos, etc) or do I have to back them up (You should see me at the moment, I have about 20 blank cd's waiting to be burned with my data in case the Lion installation over SL decides to delete my Music, Pictures, etc. SO please, help me out

As for the transition I decided to risk myself hoping for the best (I didn't really feel like loosing 30 GB of Music/Muvies and about 20 GB of pics). And all my crossing fingers and praying to the Apple gods worked because if you do try to install Lion over SL, only the OS files are changed, nothing else is even touched. It was so good that even my very disorganized desktop was kept the same. So in case anyone has the same question, yes you can instal Lion over SL without loosing any files.

Editing Transitions Help

My adobe premiere constantly freezes up whenever I try to edit transitiions

The best way I can detail this is to say that this is my first project with Premier Pro and after loading all the project clips about 500 different items I had no problem building the 50 minute timeline. My next step was to do the various video transitions, and this is where the trouble started. After successfully completing a couple of wipes I tried to do a cross fade and everything just froze. The error messages I consistently get is that there has been a low lever player error, and the only way to get the program to quit and restart is to make it "force quit" After restart the player will play one time, and then as soon as I attempt to make any changes it freezes up and the program has to be "force quitted to close it.
I have contacted Adobe phone support and after taking control of mu machine for over an hour the technician was unable to help, and said he was going to refer it to adobe research.
After five days I have still heard nothing.
Can anyone please help?

Preview Slideshow Transitions Help

Hi Folks, we're running OSX Mavericks and are troubleshooting this little issue: on all previous versions of Preview, one could run a full-screen slideshow using a group of photos/pdfs/whatever, and each 'slide' would transition to the next using a smooth crossfade effect. Now I just get a a hard cut from one photo to the next; no smooth transition at all. I've not found anything in Preferences that allows me to change this. Our broadcast facility uses Preview extensively as a down-and-dirty get-it-on-the-air-quick photo display platform, and the hard cuts look really crappy and amateurish compared to Preview's old smooth crossfades. Any ideas? Thanks!

In the Menu section of the preferences, try changing from hardware encoding to software encoding. Also try converting your slideshow to a track.

Urgent IMovie HD photo transitions help!

Ok, I'm a total virgin to this imovie HD thing!I read through the manual it makes it sound easy how to apply the transitions, drag them between two photos and you are done. I've done that but for some reason, say I have 5 photos and I put the 'warp out' command between 4 & 5, when it's doing the transition with the command it's doing a circle thing and I actually want to see the 5th photo coming out when the transition is finished but for some reason it's all black!.Why????I dont understand the concept! Is there a good interactive video that shows everything one by one. Apple web site shows the new Imovie which I dont have, so no use!

Also-if it's coming out black, maybe the transition is longer than the photo. Have you tried making the transition shorter?

AE CS4 Transition help

Hello Gentlemen I purchased many plug ins such as new blue trapcode and etc, my effects work fine but I have trouble finding the transitions , I found some transitions along with my effects , does anybody have any idea what's going one here , I also use Premier CS4 and all the effects work fine, thanks

There are not a lot of transitions in AE because AE is not an editing app, it's a compositing app designed to create short sequences or shots. Just about any transition you want can be made by simply animating properties or using custom gradients and the Gradient Wipe effect.

Creating a Custom Transition (help)

Hi guys-
I found a post from earlier today titled 'custom transition' which is close to my question, but not exact. I would like to use a logo I have to do various transitions between clips in the format of the logo either grows or shinks with animation. In the past, I've put the video on V1 and the logo on V2 and overlapped the video, though I wanted to know if I could create a transition that I could use such as any Apple transitions that I can just stick between the clips that I could store in the browser. Any ideas? Thanks!

you'll need to delve into FCP's "fxscript"
a good place to start is to right-click on one of the existing video transitions in the Effects bin and get a feel for how these things look ... if you think its something worth pursing then download the user guide from Apple:

Random transition help

i trying to create multiple random transition. i able to make
it randomly choosing the transition type. Below is my code which
can only transit once i play the movie but it can randomly select

Thanks for the details.
Please try the following, using the right and left arrow keys to move the Timeline Indicator.
(The "it reappears" and "first frame" aspects of what you wrote do not fit the following scenario, but consider it for the moment....)
Assuming clip with segments A B C.
Move the Timeline Indicator, one tap (one frame) at a time in the vicinity of where you are going to make the first cut between A and B.
Stop when you see displayed in the monitor the first frame of B. Cut, Ctrl+K.
Then move the Timeline Indicator to the end of B. Stop when you see displayed in the monitor the first frame of C. Cut, Ctrl+K.
Any solution or same old problem?
If problem persists...
As a first pass at the troubleshooting, let us try deletion of the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file.
I am strictly and Elements Windows user, so this is my best second hand information on the location of that file in Mac...
Users/Owner/Libraries/Application Support/Adobe/Premiere Elements/12.0.
Have we established if the problem exists in a new project?
We will be watching for further developments.

PC to Mac Transition help!

I bought a pc about a year ago which I regret and would like to try out Mac.
now I've got 3x1TB hdd and 1x60gb ssd. If purchase Mac pro would I be able to use these hdd along with rams and video card and moniter and put additional cpu.

you are better off with a new X58 / P55 motherboard and Core i7/i5. Throw in Windows 7.
Only the hard drives would be of use. Throw in $3k machine that has everything vs. parts... Macs aren't something you 'build' though you can upgrade
