Transition Makes Audio Skip in Slideshow

Hi
I just bought some training dvds on DVDSP. So I was following along on the dvds while making my own compulation.
it consisted of some video and still pics.
when the audio is playing through the stills, it stops (goes blank) during the transition.
why is this and how can we correct it?
you shouldent have to watch a slideshow with gaps in the music right?
BTW, it happens with any transitions I used.

Hi:
Where are you warching the DVD: computer or stand alone player?
Some advices:
- Use Dolby 2 (AC3) audio. Encode your audio using Compressor before inmporting it into DVDSP. AC3 audio uses a lower bitrate.
- When you finish your Slideshow esign, duplicate it (to keep a backup copy) and convert it to a track. That uses to help solving weird behaviours of Slideshows. This is a one way process. You cannot re convert the track to a slideshow. That's why you must duplicate it in casae you need to re edit later.

• Audio skipping in slideshow

Hi Guys,
Major panic on here.
Pal DVD
I have just created a wedding slideshow dvd with four slideshows within.
To each slideshow I have added music which is fitted to the slideshow duration. All slideshows have a transition (the same for each show)Gradient wipe 03:00.
Everything is great except that the audio keeps skipping or missing regularly. I have used wav format and have transcode settings;
Copy of pal dv High Quality 8mb CBR 1 pass
Aud format PCM, Stereo, 16 bit, 48 khz.
As I am fairly new to encore I do not know whether these are the right settings for a PAL DVD and would welcome some helpful advice to solve this problem.
Using Encore DVD 2
Thanks in advance to all those that take the time to reply.
David.

Hi all,
I find the two replies amazing., especially as Adobe promote Encore as the main DVD creator with a slideshow function.
For those that are interested, I remade the slideshow in Encore 2 omitting the transitions and also the fit slideshow to audio feature.
Burnt a fresh copy and ran it on the TV. The skipping was still there but it was now obvious where the problem lies.
The music skip occurs immediately prior to a picture change, just where a transition would commence (if you had one set).
So lets hope the smart boys at Adobe have enough now to isolate this problem once and for all, considering that it comes in a package costing $800.
David.

• Can I make a significant iDVD slideshow?

Hello! I've tinkered with iDVD for a couple of years now with little success. Currently I'm trying to make a 600 MB slideshow with about 500 slides and I want to add background music but with iDVD's limit of 99 slides or so it seems sorta fruitless. I can make what I want in Toast T. 6.0 Titianium but haven't figured out how to add sound. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom

I like iPhoto for quick slideshows, but with that many slides, you'll need a lot of organization, and extended audio is a bit of a challenge. iMovie will give you lots of control of video and audio, but will be a bit more work to set all the transitions -- but probably is your best bet. With either software, you're not bound by the 99 slide limit.

• Video and audio skipping in PowerDVD 8

Hi,
I have an issue when I try to play DVD's in PowerDVD 8. Exactly every 5 seconds the video and audio skip, or jump/become choppy and I cannot watch a movie. I have been researching and trying to figure out what is happening but have no idea. Could it be the X-fi I have installed the latest beta drivers to no avail.
Anybody have this problem or have any ideas on how to fix it's I have updated all drivers/firmware for everything and still can't make it go, sigh.
I have the following specs:
Intel x38BT mobo
X-Fi Fatalitly champ.
4GB DDR3 RAM
9800 GTX
ASUS 8x dvd-rom
E8500 CPU
Win Vista 32-bit
Thanks

Try this utility:
http://www.thesycon.de/eng/latency_check.shtml
and post results.
Gigabyte Boards at least with x48 chipset have an audio latency bug that is only fixed via a beta bios update. I have no idea if this also might affect your board...

• Can you make captions for a slideshow?

can you make captions for a slideshow? otherwise how can i rename the photo so that i can select view titles in the slideshow and use it as a caption?

Jim lo:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can't make captions with iPhoto. You can edit the title of a photo by selecting it and then going to the Info window at the bottom of the Source pane, the "i" button, clicking on the title field and enter what text you'd like.
If you plan on using the slideshow in iDVD then those titles will not show as they will be lost in the "overscan" area that is common to all movies played on TV. You can create the slideshow in iMovie and have lots of control over titles and subtitles and greater control of the audio track, cut, fade in/out, etc.

• Video pauses and audio skips

While watching any video in iTunes, the video will freeze and the audio will skip rapidly like a broken record for 5-10 seconds, the video will then speed forward and finally resume at normal speed but with the audio out of sync. Sometimes this happens only once, but it usually occurs a few times in one viewing. The audio will sync back up witht the video if I manually skip forward or backwards, but it's ridiculously annoying and I shouldn't have to put up with this since I have to update this stupid program five times a month. When the audio skips, it does something like this: if the character is saying "attack", the audio will skip and all I'll hear is "attaattaattaattaattaattaattaattaattaattaattaattaatta". Does that make sense? I hope so. Thanks for anyone's input.

• BUG: Speed Change + Audio Transition = No Audio-Video Sync

BUG: Speed Change + Audio Transition = No Audio-Video Sync
If you change the speed of clips (125%) and make an audio transition between them (power), the audio runs out of sync. The longer the transition, the more out of sync.

• Transition of Audio Between Clips

I made an iMovie from several video clips and used the circle opening transition between the clips.
Although the video looks good, the audio part of the transition did not work out well. [The audio is the audio that is imbedded into each clip.] The audio for each clip in the iMovie begins (abruptly) after the transition. There is no smooth transition of audio from one clip to the next.
Is there a way to have the audio of the first clip smoothly change into the audio of the second clip during the period of the video transition?
Is there a way to have the audio of the second clip begin at the start of the transition rather than at the end of the transition?
Thank you for your help.
Mac Mini Intel Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi
You should extract the audio from the clip (cmd+j i think). the audio will be placed on a new track. Make sure you have clip volume enabled and you will see a line through the clip. Palce nodes and drag them up or down - this represents volume and you can cross-fade betwteen audio clips for a smoother transition.
You can also grab these audio clips and place them where you want.
Hope this helps

• Macbook pro to HDTV, video is working but audio is not working, how to make audio work as well

Macbook pro to HDTV, video is working but audio is not working, how to make audio work as well

If you use an HDMI cable, the audiostream will be integrated, so there will be sound when using an HDMI cable!
Not necessarily. That only works as stated if you have one of the most recent MBP's that has a built-in HDMI port.
If the MBP only has a Thunderbolt or miniDisplayPort, you need an appropriate adapter cable and even if you use an HDMI adapter or cable to connect to your HDTV there is no guarantee it will carry audio. You have to determine if your specific MBP model supports audio out through its miniDisplayPort or Thunderbolt output, and whether the adapter does likewise.

• How can i make audio player with osmf??

i want to know how can i make audio player with osmf and flex4.5 ?

Thanks again...I suppose I'd just like it louder in case the radio is on when the directions are given. The difference between the iPhone & Nokia is like night & day!
BTW, do you know if the Maps program is using data from my cell phone plan as we drive? Or are the corresponding maps downloaded into the phone once for the trip?
Thanks again!!

• How do you make audio fast without changing pitch?

How do you make audio fast without changing pitch?

PrPro may have that but I've always just gone over to Audition ... you change speed there, you're given a choice of keeping the pitch the same or allow it to change. Note ... if there's much cha ge in speed the result can be odd.

• Tag to make coldfusion skip parsing a certain block of code.

Is there a tag to make coldfusion skipping parsing a certain code.
Example, I want coldfusion to output the following code without executing it.
<cfquery name="qryTest" datasource="myds">
SELECT * FROM dual
</cfquery>
should result as
<cfquery name="qryTest" datasource="myds">
SELECT * FROM dual
</cfquery>
not coldfusion executing the qryTest.

how?
you mean the following:
<cfquery name="qryTest" datasource="myds">
SELECT * FROM dual
</cfquery>
not exactly what I am looking for.

• No audio on exported slideshows?

There is no audio in my slideshow exports. Slideshows plays as expected in aperture 3.0.1. I have tried different coding options iPod, AppleTV and custom. No audio when I play the exported file with iTunes. The video is fine.

I had posted a similar complaint but apparently my tone did not suit the censors (I refrained from cussing..). That aside, thanks for posting the fix. Note that in page 145 of the booklet that came with the software (upgrade in my case) shows the audio track in the lower position which is apparently track 2 that does not export. I still think there is a bug since there is a reasonable expectation that multiple tracks might be used to mix a unique sonic experience to go along with this wonderful software. Gee and gosh golly, I sure hope that the great people at Apple pay attention to these things.

• Audio skips after rendering

Does anyone know how to correct audio that skips after rendering? The video is fine and the audio matches up to the video but the audio skips as though it is going in and out. The movie is about 2 hours long and the first few clips were fine but now it is becoming a problem. I rendered both the video and audio at the same time then I went back and rendered only.....mixdown to see if I could get it to work......no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tammy,
If we've dropped a bit of time for this part of the edit, you now have time for more fun aspects of it.
While I will casually monitor my Meters, I spend much more time with a good set of noise-canceling headphones, listening critically. The Meters are basically to point up potential issues. With Audio, if you have not invested in a really good set of headphones, do yourself a big favor, and sneak 'em into the budget.
Glad that you got things toned down.
Now, let's go on to Lesson 02 - The Audio Mixer. Unlike adding Keyframes to a Clip, when your cutting is done, you can apply Track Keyframes to attenuate (also Pan, etc.) you Audio Tracks to suit. One would just change the Send in that Track to Write, or Touch, and "ride the gain" with the slider, as is required. I probably do most of my Audio editing there, than addressing the individual Clips. First thing that I have done is cut back a bit on the frequency of the Track Keyframes in Edit>Preferences, as I find the default to add too many (and you can go in and adjust these by hand, if you need to "smooth" things out a bit.). One caution: do this when you are satisfied with the cuts, Clip placement, etc., as these Keyframes are applied to the Track. If you were to remove a Clip, and replace it, those Keyframes would apply to that new Clip, whether you want them to, or not. This trips some folk up, if they do the Audio Mixer thing too soon in the editing. Wait until you are "in love" with your Timeline otherwise. It's like scoring a Project. One does that as about the very last step, or much work will be repeated, and that is not fun.
Good luck,
Hunt

• ATV2 Video pixelated and audio skipping

I don't think this is the same as the flickering issue or the frame dropping issue discussed by others. Thus, the new thread.
When streaming videos (movies or TV shows) from itunes to the ATV2 the picture will get pixelated with the missing portions turning green. The video will continue but the audio skips (exactly like a needle on a record player skipping back). If I exit the video to the menu then resume, the video plays fine for awhile until the problem arises again. To give you an example of the frequency, it happened about a dozen times during one 40 minute episode.
All software is updated to the latest versions and all hardware has been restarted. Content is encoded using handbrake using the ATV2 preset and then passed through MetaX for tags. The setup is as follows: stored on DROBO->firewire->iMac->802.11n(5Ghz)->Airport Extreme->ethernet->ATV2.
Anyone else having this problem?
Thanks!

Haven't been able to see a pattern yet. I can watch a recently encoded movie (1-2hrs) without it happening once, but like I mentioned, it happened 12 times during a single 40 minute tv show. Both were encoded using same version of handbrake and ATV2 preset.
How do these two files compare in terms of total average data rate?
