Transition problem imovie 10

I can not change the time transitions in imovie 10, they remain 1 s ?

I think I found the answer, actually. It seems to happen when the clips are too short to overlap properly and imovie keeps the transition as short as possible. you can work around it though, as long as the clip is at least a few seconds long.
Right-Click on the transition and choose Show Precision Editor.
The transition opens up and you can see the overlap between the two clips, with the transition in between them. If you grab the left or right edge of the transition you should be able to stretch it out and increase the duration. You may need to give the transition more room by to repositioning the clips. This can be done by clicking and dragging the clips left or right.

  • Importing transitions from imovie to final cut problems

Hello, I made a musicvideo in imovie, it´s all finished with cuts and transitions but I want to make the "final touch" with balance, colours etc in final cut.
The problem: when I import the imovie project into final cut pro x the clips and the transitions changes the duration so the clips nolonger sync with the music and some of the clips are much longer/shorter than the original. I don´t want to do all the job again, editing and add new transitions in final cut as it already took me a long time......Anyone have any solution?

You can delete the transitions in iMovie and re-add them after importing into FCP X. Granted, this is some work, but it should not be all that much. It is easy to add a number of transitions and to set their parameters all at once.
Like BenB said, transitions behave differently in both programs, and they do not match, so this conversion can cause problems, as you are now well aware.

  • Transitions in imovie 6.0.3 using imac 10.4.8

I am creating short imovies with combinations of scanned photos, images from my digital camera and images from a digital video camera. With about 30 or 40 items in the time line I wish to place transitions between them. When I do this however I have success with about 50 % of the transitions.
Flaws manifest themselves in various forms depending on the type of transition and whether I attempt to place 1 or more transitions simultaneously. If I attempt to place just one overlap transition between two items, imovie simply and consistantly quits. If I attempt to place several overlap transitions simultaneously I get black transitions (rendering occurs suspiciously quick i.e. there is no rendering). With any other transition whether single or multiple the transition works great up until the last 100th of the transition where it is black. In playback this appears as an annoying flash.
Again these flaws occur with just a select number of images in the time line but they happen consistantly and predictably (these flaws do not seem random)
    Any suggestions?

    Hello,
Welcome to the discussions. There have been some transition problems reported, although maybe not so many problems as you are experiencing.
I had the black/flash with the transition cross-dissolve in one of my movies recently. I found the suggestions in this thread to resolve that: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3842119#3842119

  • DV (NTSC) Transition Problem

I am having issues when I attempt to apply transitions in iMovie 6.0.4. I get the following when I do so.
This seems to only affect projects with the Video format set to DV (NTSC) or DV (PAL). If I select MPEG-4 the transitions work correctly, however my source DV files fail to deinterlace.
Is there a solution to this problem? I have to get this project done in a timely manner.
    Thank you.

Hmm. I couldn't see any difference. Are you sure your DV/DVCPRO wasn't using low quality display when you evaluated it?
I evaluated both with QuickTime's High Quality setting checked. DV/DVCPRO seemed to have bleeding of the color red where as DVCPRO50 did not have this problem.
Hmm. Did you use DV output or QuickTime output? I only see the the DVCPRO50 option with the QuickTime option. I always prefer to use plain .dv if possible i.e. no .mov wrapper.
Toast 9 Titanium export to DV, and selected Custom. From the dialog box I was able to select the DVCPRO50 option.
    Hmm. So your workflow is:
    MPEG2 -> DVCPRO50 -> deinterlace -> MPEG4
I guess the quality would be better preserved simply with:
    MPEG2 -> DV/DVCPRO
My workflow is MPEG-2 -> DVCPRO50 -> Save as reference .mov with deinterlace option checked
This keeps me from having to transcode the video again and keep the quality of DVCPRO50 which iMovie HD 6 seems to have a problem with with the .dv extension.

  • Where do I get a map transition like iMovie,  in which I can put a destination city

Where do I get a map transition like iMovie,  in which I can put a destination city

    Tom
I want you to know, Tom, that you are your only reason that I'm still using FCP X and not banging my head against the wall. I hope Apple is compensating you well.
What do you mean by "export it and import it into FCP?" Neither program has an  export feature. I have already imported my iMovie project to FCP X with the map and it didn't come over correctly. Where the map should be  there is simply a slide saying, "title & subtitle."

Have you tried turning off automatic transitions ? Choose file - project properties and follow the dialogue box to change duration with a slider.  iMovie also doesn't allow a transition to be more than 50% duration of the clip its attached to. In other words if the clip is 4 seconds the transition cannot be more than 2 seconds and remember that relates to the first clip as the following clip (right side) is pulled back to overlay it.
Does this help.  Perhaps you already know this ?

  • Transitions in iMovie 5.0.2 not working

None of the transitions in iMovie 5.0.2 are working for me. I have a 45 minute project edited down from 2 hours, now I come to add the titles and transitions, and they don't work...
Titles on a black background are working fine. However, all transitions and title over clips are badly corrupting the clips. You can tell the picture is the same as the clip, but it looks like a TV that is badly tuned and without vertical sync (the picture is corrupt and scrolling upwards).
I have just noticed that my iMovie is NTSC, but my camera is PAL. Could this explain it...? But I don't really see how, since I can scroll all the 29 NTSC frames in each second just fine.
Has anyone come across this and found a way to make it work okay?

    Hi Tony,
    welcome to this forum
    I'm afraid:
you should start your project from the beginning....
my guess: you imported your footage WHILE the demo was open in the timeline of iM, right? that is NTSC stuff; now, iMHD allows to import different video standards into one project, but that is not best practise, and can reuslt in very cheap quality of project....
choose New Project, in the settings choose "25" - less intuitive, that stands for PAL... which has 25fps (but who know that?) besides, 30 is NTSC....

  • Impossible de modifier la durée des transitions dans IMovies 10.0

Impossible de modifier la durée des transitions dans IMovies 10.0 / Mac OS Mavericks 10.9

    1. remove xulrunner, icecat, and wireless_tools (assuming you didn't already remove wireless_tools when it asked you about it)
    2. install icecat again but this time modify the pkgbuild (change the depends  xulrunner=1.9.2.4 to xulrunner=1.9.2.6)
(the package was failing to build because the icecat pkgbuild specifies a specific version of xulrunner and the maintainer never changed it when the new version of xulrunner came out.)

  • Are there more transitions in imovie 11

are there more transitions in imovie 11

I like to speak of iM-a and iM-b, vers≤6 and iM08/09/11 .. iM-b is from ground new, internally using a complete diff. technique to create titles, effects, transitions ...-
and, yes, due to the new 'Trailers' and 'Themes' there are a few, handful of new transitions - but more doesn't automatically mean better. (compare to any Hollywood movie: cross-fades, fade to black and ...?)
iM11 is great, for 14€ (at AppStore) worth every penny!

  • Problems setting duration for still photos and transitions in iMovie '11

I downloaded iMovie 11 from the Apps Store last night and am trying to make my first movie with it today. I use still photos exclusively.
For most - but not all - I like 5 seconds for photos and for transitions 2 seconds. I do vary this on occasion and so do not check "for all photos' or "for all transitions".
I can't get these settings to work with this version of iMovie. For example, I added a photo (5 sec) then a transition (2 sec) which changed the duration time of the photo - as it should. But when I double clicked the photo, to bring up the inspector window to change the duration of the photo, nothing happened. Then I added another photo. The duration of the first photo increased to 7 seconds and nothing I do seemed to change that.
The time increases seem random: for example, sometimes the time on the still photo increases to 6:29 sec, sometimes to 7 sec.
The duration for the transitions always remains the same - 2 sec; it's the time for the photos that jumps around. And I haven't been able to find a way to get back to 5 sec.
Before posting this, I researched and found an number of earlier posts detailing the same issues.
However, none of these posts had stars to indicate the problem was solved.
Has anyone found a solution or is this a bug that should be reported to Apple?

    Interesting!!
I've spent a lot of hours on this too, but I have come up with a different solution perhaps because I like to vary both the image duration and the transition duration in my movies.
    Here's my process:
-> Knowing that (a) I want most of the photos to be visible for 5 seconds and most transitions for 2 seconds and (b) that a transition takes half from the photo before and half from the photo after, under File>Project Properties>Photo Duration I chose 7 seconds - each photo will 'lose' a total of 2 seconds from the transitions in front and behind. I did not check either "Applies to all transitions." or "Applies to all photos." - See below for why.
-> I discovered, as you have, that all the photos have to go in before I add any transitions. This was new to me. With all previous versions of iMovie I simply added a photo then a transition then another photo one at a time. I had to fiddle with the timing adjustments, but at least I could fiddle. With this new version of iMovie I can't. Once the transition is in place, I cannot change the duration of the photo.
-> Sometimes, I want a longer or shorter duration for a photo. For example, on photos to which I apply the Ken Burns effect, I often want the image on the screen for a slightly longer time. In this case, I have to use the inspector to change the duration before I add the transitions. So I might set the time for 8 seconds; when both transitions are added, the time for this photo becomes 6 seconds, which is what I want.
-> The same applies if I want a transition to be shorter or longer than 2 seconds. If, for example, I want the duration for a transition to be 1 second, then I have to change the duration on the two linked photos to 5 1/2 seconds.
All of this requires much more prior planning than I am used to with iMovie. Right now, I working with batches of 5 or 6 photos at a time. I don't put a transition on the last photo in the batch until I have added the next group of photos. And things get really tricky if I don't like my original design. If I want to change anything, I have to take out all of the transitions linking the photos I want to work on, do the math, make the changes in the photo durations, then put the transitions back.
Perhaps I am trying to make iMovie do more than it was intended to do, I don't know. Perhaps this problem stems from the fact that I bought just iMovie 11 from the Mac Apps Store and not the entire iLife 11. Don't know that either. But at least I have found a way to make the movie look the way I want it to look.
Thanks for sharing your process. I will use it when the circumstances are right.

  • IMovie (2013) transition problem

I am having problems with tarnsitions in the new 2013 version of iMovie. It appears to occur only when editiong1080 HD video. • IMovie 11 export unsync, transition problem, and sound problem

Hi all. I have done a 1 hour and 36 min long movie on my weeding and it's made of around 80 "clips", where in some places the original sound is used and in some places external sound is placed instead. In some places iMovie text boxes is used and in some places the video has filters and slow motion (so a lot of random filters, effects, etc and chapters).
So my problem? 3 weeks ago I wanted to just test the video before doing everything done and exported it as mov HD1080 and it worked good on other devices. When improvements done I tried to export it again. But as it is now, when I export is, regardless if its to iDVD, iTunes, MOV HD720 or 1080, and regardless if its "finilized" first or not, or if its shared to "media library", the transitions is not working (un sync) and the sound is fading out to 0% during all the transitions before up to the original level.
I have for real exported the film more than 25 times and average export time is 6 hours due to the high quality and the time duration.
When just in the project view looking and listening, everything is just perfect. As soon as I finilize the project, or export it, even in the project preview it doesnt work. I also tested to install miDVD pro (10$) and WonderShare DVD Creator (39$) to just sharing the project to them, but the result was the same.
I just want to be able to export it as it is in the project.
I have macbook 13, moutain lion, iMovie 11
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

I have iMovie '11 and cannot create a HD 1080p movie. I've got a 27" iMac with a 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7 processor (I purchased this computer last month). I tried like crazy to export the HD movie last night (it's one of the new trailers -- the one that looks like Indiana Jones & it's less than 1 minute long) but no dice due to a "HEAP" error. I tried to export the movie a couple of times this morning. It went a little further in the rendering until the HEAP error popped up again (this was from a fresh reboot). The really odd thing is that when I render it in HD 720p, my movie clips are black. No video. The built-in trailer stuff from iMovie '11 is there, just none of my clips show up (they're all black).

  • Problem with transitions on iMovie '11

    Hello,
I have been encountering a little problem on iMovie 11, when adding transitions (cross fade, cross blur etc.). Although I have been able to add a couple to the current project I'm working on, I am now finding that when I try to add another it malfunctions. When you bring a transition across to the editing suite, the area you drop it into is highlighted with a green bar between the clips in question; however when I try to drop the transition in, the green bar just stays there, and the entire project crashes - I can't spool through the rest of the clips.
To make sure I don't ruin my project, I simple do Apple+Z to undo, close the programme, and then reopen it, and nothing is lost.
But I'd like to be able to use the transitions, and if you could give me an idea of what might be gong wrong, I would be very grateful.
    Thank you in advance.

I am having exactly the same problem.  Up until a few days ago, everything worked flawlessly.  I tried to create a short clip (< 5 min) and when I tried to export the movie I noticed that it exported well until the 3rd transition and then the image would freeze and while the audio would continue, there was evidently a problem.   I tried removing all transitions from project and export the movie and it worked but was also not able to export the whole thing...  Then I tried adding the transitions back into the movie only to notice that the transitions menu was not working well (when you hover they should show a simple animation of how they work, but instead in my mac they show TV noise!!).   I thought it was a bug, so I tried fixing permissions, clearing the cache, etc., then I tried un-installing iLife entirely and re-installing it... nothing seems to work.   I also tried removing the different movie projects I have (don't have a lot, but about 25)... one by one, then all at the same time only leaving one - to maybe find the one that had corrupted information... but unfortunately did not find any evidence of problems there and did not solve the iMovie problem...  Anyone has any other ideas?
