Transition problems

Hello Friends,
I recorded 80 hours of HDV on miniDV through my CANON XL H1. I was shooting in HDV 1080i x 30. When I went to capture, all was well. I used I Movie HD 6 and added 2 transitions (fade in and cross dissiolve) as well as a title. When I tried to send to Quicktime, I would get to the crossdissolve transitionend then I MOVIE would crash. I'd get the message:
Thread 18 Crashed:

2 ...pple.AppleIntermediateCodec 0x16cc9ba6
iCodecDecompressorComponentDispatch + 4292

The same thing happens when I don't sent to Quicktime but try to burn the project from I MOVIE to I DVD. I get to the transition and then it crashes. This never happened before this 80 hour shoot. Now it Any advice ??? Peace, Joe Ray

Hello Friends,
I am sorry I couldn't respond any sooner but I had to finish a brief for a trial next week that I intend to prove my client innocient at. This afternoon I noticed that the error causing the transition to act up was not present on the original video tape. I recaptured the video and guess what? ...it worked fine. So I guess I have a problem of a "group of video frames" dropping out... Seems like it is usually 8-10 frames at a time.
As it is not on the miniDV tape, can anyone explain to me why this occures? I should note that the occurrence of the frames dropping out happens randomly. Can any experts on this issue shed a little light? Peace, Joe Ray

  • Transition Problems in Full Screen View

    Hi.
I've created a Powerpoint presentation on the Bayeux Tapestry which I now want to convert to a PDF document so that I can add multimedia.
My Powerpoint presentation features photographs of a section the tapestry with each photograph placed on a separate slide. I've used the Powerpoint 'push left' transition to create a panoramic effect which creates the illusion that the tapestry is being scrolled from right to left  as the viewer clicks through the presentation. It all works very well in Powerpoint as the slides butt up against each other in transition without any 'seam' between them.
I thought I could simply replicate the effect in Acrobat 9 by converting the presentation to PDF and selecting the 'push left' transition from Advance/Document Processing options then launching the document in full screen view. However, I've found that using a push left transition in Acrobat creates wacking great gaps between the pages as they scroll right to left: this absolutely ruins the whole effect.
As you can probably tell, I'm pretty much a newbie with Acrobat 9 (but not with other Adobe applications) and I can't work out for the life of me how to get around this problem. Is there someting simple that I'm overlooking on the full screen view options or perhaps in the Powerpoint conversion settings or do I have to start adjusting resolutions etc? Or maybe it's just the nature ofthe beast (do hope not)?
I'd be very grateful for any enlightenment or advice.
PS: Forgot to mention the Powerpoint was created in default landscape layout and hence so is the PDF.

Do you have the PDF version to fill the full screen and not leave borders? If you print to PDF (not create PDF), then a margin is added by default (as when you print to paper). The border can be reduced to 0, but that is an extra step with the print. As I recall, the PDF Maker (create PDF) does not include the margins. Thus the whole margin bit may be the issue.

  • Blurry Ken Burns effect and transitions problem in IPhoto6

I've never seen an answer for these problems, so i'm hoping someone can help. Whenever I use the Ken Burns effect (both the auto and when i do it manually) the photos are very blurry. I have tried large hig resolution photo's as well as lower es. Same result. I thought it might be proessing power or a graphics card issue, but even if i export it to Quicktime or IDVD it's the same blurriness. Is there a setting I need to change? Is my current set up just not capable of utilizing this?
Second problem is transitions. If I do different transitions between slide they frequently will be wrong. Mostly they default to dissolve. If I begin with say Mosiaic, it will work fine until i switch to dissolve, and then it will stay on dissolve, no matter what I change it to. Any help?
Sorry for two seemingly different issues, but I'm trying to do both at once.

Excellent. The generator suggestions worked like a charm. Just curious. What did you mean by adjustment layer. Surely it's something simple, but forgive me for not knowing.

  • Transition problems when exporting to flash

I built a DVD menu with transitions to the different submenus and when I exported the project to flash the transitions were in the wrong aspect ratio and at a lower quality. Is there a way to make it look more seamless?
    Thanks,
    Matt

You may have encountered a problem that does not have a solution. I’m afraid you’ll have to use other software to generate large JPEG files.
    See this technote:
    http://go.adobe.com/kb/ts_tn_18893_en-us
    ------- quote ------
Large files are giving out of memory errors when trying to export the files from FreeHand MX. For example, when exporting a file as JPEG with the settings of Resolution: 300 DPI, Anti aliasing: 2, Include Alpha: selected and Quality: 100% the program will generate an error: "Not enough memory to complete command."
    Solution
No workaround has been found for this issue. It has been reported to the engineering team._

  • CSS transitions problems..

I'm using this Page Visibility code in my project, it was perfect in the last version but the latest version not quite..
First off, when I tabbed out of the project on a web browser and when you tab back into it..
(On the previous version) It completely stops the animation and i'll be able to trigger the code.
(On the latest version) It skips few frames then play again.
So, my solution was to stop the timeline of the symbol which is playing whenever it goes to another tab but another problem occurs; once you tab out again on the time when the CSS transition is happening; the transition will stop the animating object and it will not resume the transition.
Oh btw, I'm using animate.css as my presets to my animations. I was adding and removing class and still nothing. I'll try to upload a sample but hopefully some of you will give some thoughts about this. Thank you!

    Hi Paolo
Sharing a sample will quickly help us get to the root cause.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Still and title transition problem

    Premier Pro 1.5
    Encore 1.5
    1H 52Min finished SD video
All video content SD DV, same settings, same camera, same master tapes
All stills 480 max or 720 max with a black video layer below
    All titles made in PP1.5
Many music tracks along  with native audio from the clips
Everything went great, all transitions, stills and titles look good in the timeline. All looks good in the single file avi export from PP1.5 as played with windows media.
As soon as I import the avi into Encore 1.5 to author the DVD, a few transitions between stills and/or titles get scrambled. It happens on about 3 random transitions out of maybe 50 - 100 of them. Sometimes a transition effect (fade) is involved, sometimes there is no effect. An example is 2 stills or titles adjacent to each other with the same duration. After the import to Encore the durations get hosed and the second still or title flashes for less than a second.
Any ideas? Other than this problem this long and involved video is flawless.
    Thanks,
    George

  • 1080i Transition Problem

    Greetings,
I'm working on a wedding project in 1080i HD. For some reason, I can't get any transitions to work. Strangely enough, a title movie made with keynote works fine with it's "fade-out" transition. The transitions will render, then not work at all during the movie, they simply show up as a black screen for the duration.
The title movie was opened and exported with mpeg streamclip into a 1080i clip.
I've tried the plist file renewel, have 29 gb of space on the drive, made a new user account and tried that, even tried to do it with my underpowered mac mini. None of that worked.
I've spent the last 2 days researching and reading forums. Would this have something to do with frame rates? The more I read, the more confused I get.
All of the original clips were MTS files on the SD card from the camera which i converted with toast titanium.

    Hi
    1080i HD - What frame rate 24, 25 30 50 60 ?
If 24 - then iMovie will not work - I Guess
If 25 or 30 then do these things and see if it works better.
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy. *Repair Permissions*, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
    • *Delete iMovie pref file* - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
    iMovie pref file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named. com.apple.iMovie.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
    iMovie updated ?
    QuickTime updated ?
    Mac OS version ?
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iMovie’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.
    Lennart Thelander
I run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac.

  • Frustrating transition problem

    Hello All
I'm having an issue I have yet to figure out, I create a lot of slideshow movies with an app called Photo to Movie, render then import into FCE , now when I preview the movie in QT it looks great but, after importing the .mov into FCE, my transitions get screwed up. when the image zooms or movies back, they leave a trail in a sense. almost looks like a time laps...a thin series of lines stemming from the edge of the image.
Any idea why or how I can resolve this frazzling issue, I have on some just cut out the bad transitional lines but, this cuts into my image viewing time .
    Thanks

One day Tom, I pray I'm as good as you are at this..
There is the problem, FTM is set to export at 29.97fps but, QT is showing it to be slower at a rate of 22.49 fps , how can or can I resolve this ?
As for the information it's from both
    Photo to Movie data :
    Compression ; type animation
Motion ; frame rate 29.97 fps
Key frames ; every 24 frames
compressor ; depth millions of colors+, quality medium
    FCE Data
    Vid rate ; 29.97 fps
    data rate ; 6.6mb/sec
    alpha ; straight
    composite ; normal
    Thanks again

  • Slide dissolve transition problem

I am having a problem with my slide show. I made a slideshow in DVDSP with iphoto jpeg photos. I set them to use the dissolve transition. I have my encoding preferences set to two pass 5mps (max 7mps) and built my disk. In the simulator everything looks o.k.
When I play the disk with the apple dvd player the following often happens. The slide will be transitioning to the next slide and once the new slide is fully there you can see in the background the first frame for the following transition. the duration is set to 5sec. So sometimes say when I have a portrait format photo in the black areas to the left and right you can see the first frame of the next transition 5 seconds before it is supposed to start.
Also the quality of the slide pictures seems very poor. Any suggestions for the transitions and quality?
    Thanks.

usually I have seen this occur with transitions in simulator and not on the burned disc. You might try creating a track from your slideshow, it should behave pretty much the same, though you'll want to use the slideshow editor first to set up your content, transitions, durations, etc.
You may be able to get better quality transitions by switching the final rendering preference in the menu pane of the preferences. This is described on pg. 115 of the online manual.
If you convert the slideshow to a track, the quality will be affected by the SD encoding settings instead.
    Hope this helps -

  • Page transition problem(?)

I have made a couple of pages, 2 buttons in each of them to go previous and forward when clicked. Then I aplied a page transition "push" (right to left) to make the switch. The problem is when I push the button I created to go forward it looks good (because the page goes from right to left) but when I click the button to go backwards it shows the same page transition (right to left instead of left to right). Is there any way to fix this?
    thanks
    ,Francisco Resende
P.S.: here goes an example of what I pretend. The movement right to left and left to right triggered by the buttons previous and forward.

Hi. I also have a similar dilemma - not only with push left-right, but also push up-down. I'm wondering, were you able to find a solution?

  • Transitions - Problems with Sound

When creating transitions imove HD 06 I find that a peice of totally unrelated sound is applioed across the transition. The only workaround is to etract the audio and build the sound for the tarnsition manually. I have reported the problem to Apple but not software update has been produced. Movie making this way is cumbersome and time consuming.I would really apprecaite any advice / help.

Yes, your skill can solve this.
When you add a transition between two movie sequences audio will suffer.
Video transitions cause the video file to either get longer or shorter.
The audio needs to stay real time, and that's what you hear.
Choose the audio track below* to fill the audio gap when you mute the offensive file.
Choose your transitions at the moment audio allows.
*This can be either the extracted audio of the original sound file, or an instrumental soundtrack.
You'll find there are two audio tracks below the A/V track that can run time code independent.
Hope I'm not confusing you, but once you get it, your work will gain entertainment value.

  • DV (NTSC) Transition Problem

I am having issues when I attempt to apply transitions in iMovie 6.0.4. I get the following when I do so.
This seems to only affect projects with the Video format set to DV (NTSC) or DV (PAL). If I select MPEG-4 the transitions work correctly, however my source DV files fail to deinterlace.
Is there a solution to this problem? I have to get this project done in a timely manner.
    Thank you.

Hmm. I couldn't see any difference. Are you sure your DV/DVCPRO wasn't using low quality display when you evaluated it?
I evaluated both with QuickTime's High Quality setting checked. DV/DVCPRO seemed to have bleeding of the color red where as DVCPRO50 did not have this problem.
Hmm. Did you use DV output or QuickTime output? I only see the the DVCPRO50 option with the QuickTime option. I always prefer to use plain .dv if possible i.e. no .mov wrapper.
Toast 9 Titanium export to DV, and selected Custom. From the dialog box I was able to select the DVCPRO50 option.
    Hmm. So your workflow is:
    MPEG2 -> DVCPRO50 -> deinterlace -> MPEG4
I guess the quality would be better preserved simply with:
    MPEG2 -> DV/DVCPRO
My workflow is MPEG-2 -> DVCPRO50 -> Save as reference .mov with deinterlace option checked
This keeps me from having to transcode the video again and keep the quality of DVCPRO50 which iMovie HD 6 seems to have a problem with with the .dv extension.

  • Transitions problems

I'm a complete tyro and have got to ch. 8 in Tom Wolsky's 'Editing Workshop'. My problems are these:
    (1) I have no effects tab in the browser and can't work out how to get it. The FCE manual is no help.
    (2) When I use the ripple tool to trim the clip, I get no timing window as in fig. 8.6.
    (3) I've got overlays switched on in the Timeline, but see no sprocket holes in the Viewer, but a large 'L' shape bottom left.
I'd really appreciate help with this.

Many thanks. Cmd 5 brought my Effects tab back in the browser.
But I am still at square one with the ripple tool. I follow the instructions to the top of p. 124, and with the scrubber on the edit point between Village 1 and Village 2, click with the Ripple Tool to the left of the edit point and get the picture in fig. 8.5 on p. 123 (Ripple Tool in the Timeline). So far so good.
The problem is the next step. It says 'With Ripple active, type in -15 for 15 frames', showing in fig. 6 a rectangular window with 'Ripple' on the left and '-15' on the right. I have never been able to get this window.
If I hold down the left mouse button, I get a small window with 3 double zeros separated by colons on the left and on the right (Media limit on V1). But it disappears as soon as I release the button.
If I right click, I get a window with 'Trim' and 'Add Transition Cross Dissolve'.
But I cannot get the Ripple Value window shown in fig. 8.6.
By the way, the figure numbering in Lesson 8 is faulty. The numbers go 8.5 (p.122), 8.6, 8.5, 8.6, 8.7 and then 8.10.
A couple of other points: Shift O takes me to the end of the sequence, not of the shot, and I cannot see sprocket holes on the right side of the Viewer window, although 'Show overlays' is switched on in the View menu.

  • Transition Problems with Final Cut Pro

This is a crazy problem that's randomly popped and I hope someone can help.
While editing a movie in FCP, I suddenly started having problems with adding transitions between clips. I usually right-click "add transition" and the default used to be a second-long transition (I'd adjust the length according to my needs). Now the default length is just one frame (barely noticeable!) and FCP won't let me edit the transition length! I've tried everything from dragging and dropping from the "Effects" tab, to doing it from the drop down menu and nothing works. I can add the transition to a clip if there is no clip following it but then I can't add a clip for it to transition to! (Ex: I have Clip A and add "cross dissolve" and I can manipulate everything including the dissolve length. But when I want to dissolve from Clip A to Clip B, it won't let me do anything and just leaves me with a 1-frame-long dissolve. This happens with all transitions)
I have enough frames on both sides to do the transition. This never used to be a problem and now it is.
    Help!
Message was edited by: Illegal Immigrant

*I have more than enough handles. Each clip is over 10 seconds long and I'm just trying to do a 15 frame (about half second) transition.*
The length of your clips has nothing to do with having enough in the way of handles.
You cannot butt the absolute end of a clip to the absolute beginning of a clip and expect to add a transition. When this is the case, you are telling FCP that you want the transition to start on your last frame of video and end on the first incoming frame.... so it has no frames to use for the transition.
So, you have to trim the clips as I suggested so that FCP has something to work with.
