Transition to 11.1 deleted saved podcasts

Don't know how, but my upgrading to iTunes 11.1 deleted dozens of saved podcasts and deleted a couple of podcast subscriptions, while adding some others.  Weird.  Apple store Genius Bar had no idea.  They only recommended a one on one account.  What's going on?  Just note- I have 1 Apple iTunes account, shared on 3 computers (for me, wife and son).  Is that where the confusion arises?

  • Saving podcasts as non-podcasts - Update

Last year I started a thread with the title +"Saving podcasts as non-podcasts".+ Although I subscribed to it, notifications somehow ceased to arrive and I forgot about the thread.
The problem the thread addressed boils down to the fact that podcasts set an uneditable tag that identifies the track as a podcast. If this tag is not edited or deleted, the track will, when loaded into iTunes, always appear in the Podcasts library. (I'm assuming people know how to choose to load, or not load, their multimedia files into iTunes here.) So if, for example, one had archived a series of language-learning podcasts that one wanted to keep in iTunes, they would always take up room in the Podcasts library and compete for space and attention with ever-changing, "current" podcasts. When one has lots of archived, "permanent" podcasts to keep in iTunes, this mixing of old podcasts with the new can create a hassle.
In the time since the original thread was archived I found a better solution to this problem than those proposed there. Unfortunately for Mac users, it involves delving into the Windows world, but that's what Boot Camp and virtualization software are for, right?
There's a free Windows batch tag processing program called mp3tag that has a menu command for "Extended tags...". This command allows for editing of normally uneditable file tags, including one it calls "IPODCAST" (which is not its "official" name).
    http://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html
Since finding mp3tag I've been able to fire up Parallels, launch mp3tag, batch process folders full of archived podcast files, and import them into iTunes without their appearing in the Podcast library.
mp3tag edits the Podcast tag of mp3 and m4a files but not of AACs. About 95% of podcasts are in mp3 format and the rest are split between m45a and AAC, so if you use mp3tag, a small percentage of your podcast files won't convert, and you'll have to use another method or just...let them go.
I'd prefer a solution that allows for staying in the Mac realm, but short of that, this isn't a horrendous solution. As always, I'm open for suggestions.

Panglos, I need to do the exact opposite. I find myself finding podcasts that have ARCHIVED episodes that I download as .mp3. I'd like to take these .mp3 files and get them INTO the podcast category in iTunes. Can the software below do that, or can I do it manually? Changing the Genre, as you probably know, doesn't do it.
    Thanks!

  • Where do I see "saved podcasts" (iTunes 11.2)

Installed iTunes 11.2. I'm not sure how I access my "saved podcasts".  Where do they show up? Are all podcasts that are not deleted implicitly "saved podcasts"?

In 11.0.3 a command+click on the artwork thumbnail in the progress/player area at the top of the iTunes window opens the large artwork viewer that can be expanded to fit the screen.

  • Why do I have saved podcasts on my iphone when I haven't saved any podcasts?

A fairly basic question - Why do I have saved podcasts on my iphone when I haven't saved any podcasts?
And a possibly related question "Why do podcasts I have deleted from my phone often reappear, but in the cloud?".
And finally "How is the podcast app supposed to work?" and "Why doesn't apple even try to explain aspects of the app (i.e what "My Episodes", "Feed" and "Saved" is meant to mean).

    Good morning mickp99,
I'm going to start with your third question first ... there are two main ways to learn about our apps.    The first is the main product support page for the app online.  The second is the user manual for the device (your iPhone). Here are the resources for the Podcasts app.  The answers to questions one and two above may lie in the settings you have for downloading and syncing the podcasts you are seeing.  I've highlighted some key information for you below.  Click on the links for complete information.

Podcasts app for iOS: Stream, download, and subscribe to podcasts - Apple Support
    Downloading
If you download a podcast episode, a copy of the episode is stored on your iOS device so you can play it anytime you like even if there's no Internet connection.
Browse or Search for a podcast.
Tap a podcast to view details.
Tap the download icon next to an episode.
The podcast will start to download and will appear in My Podcasts. When you use a cellular data connection, the maximum download size is 100 MB per episode.
    Subscribing
You can subscribe to your favorite podcasts.  Whenever a new episode is available your iOS devices will get them automatically.
Browse or Search for a podcast.
Tap a podcast to view details.
    Tap Subscribe.
Once you subscribe to a podcast it will appear in My Podcasts. The latest episode of the podcast will also begin to download.

    My Podcasts
Once you subscribe to a podcast, it'll appear in My Podcasts in the Podcasts app. Different parts and features of My Podcasts are described below.
View: Swipe down with one finger to switch between tile or list view.
Edit: Tap Edit to delete any podcast you're subscribed to or rearrange the order that your podcasts appear.
Subscription Details: When you tap a podcast that you're subscribed to, you can view the latest unplayed episodes under the Unplayed tab. If you tap Feed, you'll see all available episodes. If you've saved any episodes of podcasts you'll be able to view those under the Saved tab.
Notification badges: Once you've subscribed to a podcast, you may notice a badge on the Podcasts app. This shows the number of podcast episodes newly available since you last opened the app. Once you open the app, the badge will disappear until new podcast episodes are available.
If you're browsing your subscriptions in My Podcasts, you'll see red badges next to your podcasts if you're in tile view or just a number next to each podcast in list view. These badges show you the number of episodes of each podcast that are unplayed.
    Settings
There are two places you can change subscription settings for your podcasts.
Default settings: From your Home screen, tap Settings and then Podcasts. These settings are shared by all of your podcast subscriptions. These are known as default podcast settings.
Refresh Every: You can choose how often your iOS device checks for new episodes to your subscriptions. It's set to check every six hours by default.
Limit Episodes: You can pick how many episodes you see for subscriptions.
Download Episodes: The latest episodes of your podcasts will download automatically if your iOS device is connected to Wi-Fi.
Delete Played Episodes: If this is turned on, episodes will delete 24 hours after you finish playing them.
Use Cellular Data: If your iOS device has a cellular connection, you can allow downloads to use cellular data when Wi-Fi isn't available. This is off by default. Downloads using cellular data are limited to 100MB per episode. If an episode is larger than that, it won't start downloading until you're connected to Wi-Fi.
Podcast-specific settings: The second place you'll find subscription settings is within the Podcasts app. Tap a podcast subscription under My Podcasts and pull down with one finger to reveal the settings buttons. These settings are unique to each subscription. If you don't change anything here, the podcast subscription will just use the default settings. If you do make changes to a specific subscription’s settings, they'll only apply to that podcast.
Play: This setting lets you change the order in which a subscription plays. If you're listening to a news style podcast, you may want to set this to play the new episodes first. If the series is more episodic, you may prefer to play oldest to newest.
Sort Order: This changes the sort order of episodes that appear for a podcast (not its playback order).
Subscribed: When this is on, new episodes of this podcast will be marked as unplayed as they become available.
Refresh Every: You can choose how often your iOS device checks for new episodes to your subscriptions. It's set to check every six hours by default.
Limit Episodes: You can pick how many episodes you see for subscriptions.
Download Episodes: The latest episodes of your podcasts will download automatically.
Delete Played Episodes: If this is on, episodes will be deleted 24 hours after you finish playing them unless you've marked them as Saved.
    Inactive subscriptions
If you do not play or access a subscription within 15 days, your subscription to that podcast will go inactive and you will no longer receive updates to it. As soon as you access the subscription again it will refresh.

    Play iTunes Playlists

Podcasts for iOS: Sync podcasts - Apple Support
You can sync your podcast subscriptions, stations, and playback position between your iOS devices, computers with iTunes, and Apple TV.
    Here's what you'll need:
An Apple ID. Sign in to the iTunes Store with the same Apple ID on all your devices.
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 7 or later.
Mac or PC with iTunes 11.2 or later.
Apple TV with Apple TV software version 6.0 or later.
    Turn on syncing
Sign in with the same Apple ID on any computer or iOS device that you want to sync podcasts.
    iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    Tap Settings > Podcasts.
Turn Sync Podcasts on or off.
    Mac or PC
    Open iTunes.
Choose iTunes > Preferences, then click the Store tab.
Select "Sync podcast subscriptions and settings."
    Learn what syncs
When you sync podcasts, you also sync subscriptions, stations, and play position. Here's everything that syncs.
    Subscriptions
Subscribing. Syncing podcast subscriptions will download the newest episode for each podcast that you're subscribed to (but not previous episodes for that podcast). If you download other episodes for a subscription on a device, they won't automatically download to your other devices. See how to transfer episodes and playlists.
Unsubscribing. If you unsubscribe from a podcast on a device, all of your other devices will unsubscribe to that podcast. If you subscribe to that podcast again, all of your other devices will also subscribe again.
Deleting. If you delete a subscription on a device, all of your devices will automatically unsubscribe to that podcast. If you delete a podcast on your iOS device, iTunes on your computer will show the message "This podcast has been deleted from another device, but has saved episodes."
If you click Resolve, you'll see the message "Do you want to delete or restore syncing of the podcast?"
If you want to keep any episodes that you saved on your computer, click Restore Sync on the message. The subscription will sync back to your other devices.
If you want to delete the podcast and all its episodes, click Delete. If you delete a podcast subscription on your computer, it will delete the subscription on your iOS devices, including downloaded episodes (unless they're marked as Saved).
    Stations
When you create a station in iTunes on your computer or in the Podcasts app for iOS, it will appear on your other devices. Any station settings you change will also sync to your devices. If you delete a station on one of your devices, it’ll delete on every other device too.
    Playback position
Podcasts can remember your playback position between devices and computers, so you can always start where you left off. If Sync Podcasts is on for your iOS device, playback position will sync. However, you might need to turn on this setting in iTunes on your Mac or PC.
    Select iTunes > Preferences.
    Click the Store tab.
Select "Sync playback information across devices." It may take a few minutes to sync.
    Transfer episodes and playlists
Podcast episodes on one device don't automatically download to your other devices. If you want all your downloaded episodes to appear on your other devices, you'll need to sync your iOS devices to your computer over Wi-Fi or with a USB cable.
Connect your iOS device to your Mac or PC with iTunes.
    Click the Podcasts tab.
Choose which downloaded podcasts should appear on your iOS devices.
To sync a playlist of podcasts to your iOS devices, select it under "Include Episodes from Playlists." The playlist will appear in My Stations in the Podcasts app for iOS.
    Click Sync.

  • HT4528 How do you delete 'SAVED MESSAGES' on iPhone 5s

How do you delete 'SAVED MESSAGES' on iPhone 5s?  It's taking up about 10GB of 32 GB capacity.

After much searching on the web and reading many (sometimes amusing) posts on this topic here is what I have found.
In Settings>General>Usage my saved mesages were using 3.2Gb and no apparently immediate way of deleting them.
However as the good book says "seek and ye shall find".
SO this is where I went:
Settings>iCloud>Account> then scroll down to ADVANCED and select Mail; again scroll down to the bottom and select Advanced and yet again scroll to the bottom (well at least to DELETED MESSAGES) and tap on the line called Remove.
Here at last you will find a setting that enables you to select the period after which iOS will remove your deleted messages.
The shortest period is one day so you will haev to wait 24 hours to finally have that memory back but it should work and is a nice feature in iOS although it is well burried!!

  • How do I delete a podcast icon from my iphone?

I'm somewhat Mac and iphone saavy and have looked all over the Net and these forums for an answer.  No dice! Let's see what you guys got:  I have deleted some podcasts from iTunes that I don't want to see anymore and the icon has stayed on my iphone. They don't show up anywhere in iTunes, but insist on hanging around in the podcast list on my phone. How do I get rid of these???  There is no swipe ability since there are no podcast recordings, just the icons.

Open your podcast app and swipe down on the screen, it will expose the search box and the edit button.
    image-119619367.jpg
    image-4150105251.jpg.
image-3750165159.jpgTap the edit button and an x appears at the upper left of each podcast icon. Tap the x, and the podcast disappears.
image-2045823971.jpgI tapped the X on the right hand podcast and it's now gone.
When you're finished editing, tap the done button.

  • When I delete a podcast from one of my devices it deletes that podcast and all of its episodes from my iPhone 5/iPhone 4 (used as an iPod) and from my MacBook automatically. Is there a way to delete a podcast from one device?

I would like to delete a podcast and its episodes from one device without it being deleted simultaneously from all of my devices. I have been having problems with podcasts for months.
Another problem with podcasts I'm having is once I sync some of the podcasts from my computer to my iPhone 5, they are not present on my iPhone. I can find them in spotlight on the iPhone 5 but when I click on them to play them it opens up the podcasts app but then does nothing. When I have iTunes open even iTunes show that they are present "On this Phone" but I have no way to play them. I took my devices to the geinus bar and the support technician was baffled.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • How do I delete songs & podcast from iPhone using iTunes on new MacBook Pro

I have recently bought a new MacBook Pro after years of using PC.
First thing I have to say is that I love it. I've had a couple of problems here-and-there but these have been teething issues which these discussion boards have mostly helped me resolve... I have been unable to resolve this one issue though which I was hoping that someone could help me with....
I have plugged my iPhone into my new Mac and let it appear in iTunes but when I attempt to delete old songs or podcasts from the iPhone it does not let me delete them... I've tried holding control and clicking on the items- hoping that delete would be an option, but it isn't. Also I've notice that delete is not one of my options in the edit tab at the top of iTunes.
I understand that I can delete individual podcasts and albums/songs through the iPhone itself by swiping right and selecting delete but when I do this for All individual episodes of a podcast then the main header for the "show" still remains...
Would love if someone could help me with this- need to be able to manage the songs and podcast on my iPhone.
    Thankyou for your time.

"Ok- but what if I want to manually manage the songs and podcasts on my iPhone and somehow loose access to the computer which I used to put said songs and podcasts on the iPhone in the first place?"
The you would ned to use the backup copy of tht computer to put everything on the new computer.
"  Is there a way in which I can manage/delete the content on the iPhone using my new computer without retoring it to factory settings and starting all over again?"
You do not have to restore it, but you cannot access the music at all from this other computer until you sync it, which will erase the content.
"And just to clarify: I don't have any problems with playing the content that remains on my iPhone, it's just the managing and deleting of this content."
    I understand completely.
You need to copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • How do I delete my podcast from the itunes store?

I submitted a podcast to iTunes, but have since deleted the account on the website I was using to host the podcast. Whenever I try to use the report a concern option to delete the podcast from the iTunes store, it tells me to go to the RSS feed and change it, but I cannot do this since I have deleted the account to the website where I would change the RSS feed. What should I do?

Email Support at podcasts 'at' apple.com and ask them to remove the podcast, explaining that you cannot access the feed. In any case, as I assume the feed is no longer accessible by iTunes, the podcast will get removed eventually anyway.

  • How can I delete a podcast thats only on my iPhone, not synced from iTunes.

I have two podcast episodes that will not delete from my iPhone. They are from a show that I update (by syncing) everyday and appear on the iPhone (since October) but will not erase or appear on iTunes. Can I delete them straight from the iPhone or do I need to connect it with iTunes to delete? It is more of a nuisance than anything else. Thanks for the help.

Yes, you can delete from iphone:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_iOS4_UserGuide.pdf
It is covered in the manual.
    Page 172:
"Delete a podcast: In the Podcasts list in iPod, swipe left or right over the podcast, then
    tap Delete. "

  • It is impossible to delete entire podcast from library in iTunes 11. Right clicking a podcast entry do not give option to remove the podcast. I more and more dislike this new iTunes look. [NOT SOLVED]

there is no way to delete a podcast (not an episode, but entire podcast, and not entire podcast library) from the library.

I have discovered that problem #2 is because I no longer get a column of "check boxes" allowing me to check certain songs.  I get it in the library view but not in the CD view, which is where I need it.  Don't see a setting in preferences for this.  Would solve a lot of problems if I could get a column of check marks.

  • ITunes 8.1 no longer deletes played podcasts for Shuffle during refresh

I lost two functions in the upgrade to 8.1, one of which is the auto delete of podcasts on my 1st gen iPod Shuffle to which I have already listened when I do a "refresh" from the iTunes Podcasts window. As it is now, I have to manually delete Podcasts on my Shuffle after doing this "refresh". How do I get this delete function to work again on the Shuffle?

  • I am not able to unsubscribe or delete ANY podcasts from my library. What's worse, almost every podcast I've ever been subscribed to has returned, clogging up my podcasts so they won't run.

I've used iTunes since it first launched and I've never been this frustrated by the software. Everytime I unsubscribe, then delete a podcast, it reappears as soon as I re-open the program. What's even worse, all the old podcasts I used to be subscribed to have returned. This is incredibly annoying to anyone who cares for an organized library, but it has also had the much worse effect of clogging up iTunes so bad it can barely run. Everytime I open it and go over to podcasts, I have about thirty seconds before the program freezes and I have to force-quit. I delete the .itl and the .xml files to start fresh, which worked for a while, until i tried to re-subscribe to the podcasts I was missing out on. Then, it all came back and I had dozens of podcasts trying to download.
From what I gather, this problem is not uncommon. Is there any solution to this that isn't hoping for a patch to fix the issue? I'm a podcast addict and I love getting my content through iTunes, but I just can't handle this. If there is no fix to my problem, perhapes a program that functions like iTunes, but isn't a complete mess right now.

A professional will image your drive and attempt a bit by bit file recovery method directly from the drive itself.
You see when you delete something, it's not quite erased yet, but the space the file took is available to be overwritten, so it's only a matter of time before that occurs and the file is really gone.
So they will recover what they can, and then restore your machine and it's software and return the recovered files.
The TimeMachine is certainly going to assist, good thing you got it.
The trick is to hire someone and quit using the computer until they rescue you, show you in person how to rescue yourself .
