Transition to Logic Pro X from Protools

I've been running PT8  HD 3/TDM for some time on a MacPro 2 x 2.4 Quad, Xeon, 8 GB RAM and have an ICON controller.   I just upgraded my Mac to Mountain Lion to optimize other software I am running.   PT crashed and I discovered that I now need to upgrade PT to 11.   This is going to be at least 6K and a headache.   I saw the news that Logic Pro X just went to market.  I am seriously considering transitioning to Logic and getting out of Protools.
The following are critical issues for me and I wonder how Logic address them:
1.   Delay compensation..  When I am overdubbing, mixing with plugins on some channels and outboard gear on other channels how does Logic handle this.    If I recall from years ago you had to manually adjust delay compensation when overdubbing, i.e. determine the number of samples that new tracks were off.
2.   Setting up new tracks.     I recall using Logic previously and it was challenging and not very intuitive to set up new tracks or channels.    Had this improved.    I know that this issue is also personal preference and was perhaps my personal shortcoming.
3.   What about my 10s of thousands of dollars of plugins that I have already paid for.   I know that the TDM versons are out the window.  What about RTAS?   What type of plugins can I use with Logic Pro.
4.   I like using an ICON controller.   I imagine that there are a bunch of good controllers out there that are specific to Logic Pro.    What are your preferences?

Any personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

  • Where can i download Logic pro 9 from?

    Hi
I purchased Logic pro 9 from the app store several years ago, from the time it was downloaded i was only successful in opening the application once before the program started crashing continually on start up, rendering the program unusable! As i require a stable and reliable platform to work from, i never bothered as i have protools to work with, i admit i was frustrated to fork out $200 for a program i never was able to use! I was continually faced with the same crashing time and time again at start up and was never able to get the program to stay open long enough to even change settings as the spinning ball of death would raise its head.
Well tonight was the last straw, after following directions on how to uninstall/ reinstall Logic pro 9 from your support section, i was greeted with a dodgy message when i opened up my app store account expecting to be able to download and reinstall logic pro 9!! The message said that the program is no longer available to download? I am confused, as a customer i have paid for a product that no longer exists?
Can someone please direct me to a location where this can be re downloaded? I had all intentions of giving logic a shot as i am getting sick of Avids expensive upgrade paths. I am currently on snow leopard 10.6.8.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated regarding this matter as i would like to finally be able to check out logic Pro as a suitable replacement option to protools. I don't wish to upgrade to Logic 10 and pay another $200 for a program i am yet to use!
    Kind Regards
    Sean

Logic Pro 9, if you bought the the original App Store version... will be found under the Purchased Tab in the Mac App Store App if you have signed in using the exact same Apple ID you used to purchase it in the first place. You will see a download/ install button to the far right of the Logic Pro 9 entry there, ready for you to click on.. if you click/check anywhere else (like on the Logic Pro Icon instead of the download/install button or anywhere else in the Mac App Store )  you will not find it as it is, indeed, no longer sold via the App Store (or anywhere else for that matter)
If it is not listed under the purchased tab and you are sure you are using the exact same Apple ID you used to purchase it, contact Apple directly and ask them for assistance. They may need to reset something their end.

  • How do I stop Logic Pro X from trying to load a 32 bit plug-in that's no longer installed

How do I stop Logic Pro X from trying to load a 32 bit plug-in that's no longer installed?  I noticed it occurring on projects where I used Miroslav Philharmonik. I keep getting prompted when opening the projects. I uninstalled Miroslav thinking it would stop, but it didn't.

Assuming you are talking about the boxed set of Logic Studio (Logic Pro 9) on DVDs the only solutions are to either borrow or purchase an external CD/DVD drive and use that with your new MBP.
Amazon sells a very reasonably priced 'Amazon Basics' external CD/DVD drive suitable for the process...
    http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Portable-External-Optical-Drive/dp/B003M0NT1M /ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416924310&sr=8-1&keywords=CD+DVD+external+drive+amazon+ basics
Do NOT try and copy Logic across from your Mac to your MBP using something like Time Machine or Migration Assistant... 99% of the time, doing so results in all kind of weird issues later on.
Just install Logic pro 9 plus all it's content from scratch using the DVDs provided with Logic Studio Boxed set.....

I recently bought logic pro x from the app store and now i want to update to 10.0.4 and its saying it wasnt purchased here???!!! sort it out apple very annoying!!

Although there will be many here that will sympathise with your situation, this is a user to user forum. Apple don't come here. The store (if you go to apple.com) now do real time chats. Failing that you'd need to call them to sort your issue out.
    Hope this helps

Of course. If your other Mac is compatible with Logic Pro X, simply copy Logic Pro X from Applications folder to the external disk. Then, connect your external disk to the other computer, and move Logic Pro X to Applications folder.

  • Can't access Logic Pro 9 from app store.

    Hey guys,
Can't access Logic Pro 9 from app store. I purchased it from the App Store for my iMac in Jan 2012. I know have my wife's old macbook, and I'm trying to get put Logic on that computer too. I just updated it to Snow Leopard so that I could access the App Store.
Logic Pro shows up in the purchases tab on the laptop, but when I click install, the install button just goes white for a few seconds, then back to grey.
If I click on the App itself it says "The item you've requested is not currently available in the Australian Store." Only thing is I tested out downloading it onto my wife's new laptop only 2 weeks ago. Has it been removed from the App Store forever in that short little window? Quite annoying if I've missed the boat by such a short amount of time. If that is the case, is there any other way of transferring the app from one computer to another?
    Thanks,
    Thom

No.. its still available on the Aus App Store.... I was just speaking with a client of mine in Geelong and he successfully downloaded it under the Purchase tab last Saturday so....
Sign out of the App Store
    Quit the App Store
    Restart your Mac
    Launch the App Store..
Sign into the App Store... using the Apple ID you used to purchase Logic Pro 9
Look for any new Terms and Conditions popup you may need to agree to....
If you click on the actual Logic Pro 9  icon you will get the message you saw because LP9 isnt available to purchase on the App Store any longer... so only click on the install button to the far right of the Logic Pro 9 entry under the Purchase Tab...
Failing this... contact Aple directly as it is possible they will need to reset your Mac App Store account for it to work correctly (as has been needed in the past when this has occurred.)

  • Is there a way to download Logic Pro 9 from the app store, as I have already purchased the Logic Studio CDs?

    Hello!
I purchased the Logic Studio CD set in a retail store two years ago or so, and I was wondering if there was a way to have the app store recognize this purchase so all I need to do is download Logic Pro 9 from the app store when I get my new iMac (without a disc drive) this month?
    Thanks much,
    Elliott

    Hi
Short answer: No. You cannot convert "DVD" licences to Appstore ones.
    I'd suggest that you:
Make Disk Images of the DVD's on your current Mac, and use those for future installs
Make use of the "Remote Install"/DVD drive sharing feature
    Buy and External DVD drive

  • Can Logic Pro 9 and ProTools 9 get along?

I have been using Logic Pro for several years now. I recently bought a version of ProTools 9. Will both of these programs coexsist together on the same Mac without creating problems for each other? Do I need to run them on different computers? I know this is a Logic Disscussion group but I thought maybe somebody is currently using both programs.

I have both working fine, 'cept I'm on PT8, and OS 10.5.8
I have on occasion had to have both open at the same time, sometimes they argue with each other about who owns the clock.  Been a while so I don't remember the details about that issue
We also have PT9 & Logic (among others) on several school lab computers running Snow.  Not a problem.

  • Can't download a previously bought Logic Pro 9 from mac app store

    Hello,
I have just bought a new Mac mini, and I tried to download LP9 from the appstore (I had already bought it), but I can't find it in the "Purchases" tab.
I tried to get it from https://www.apple.com/fr/logicpro/ but when it launchs the mac app store says it's not avaible in my country...
I payed for it, so I'd really like to use it.
As I need it for tomorrow, a little help would be appreciate!
    Thank you.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If I'm not wrong, Logic Pro 9 isn't available anymore for download. Anyway, first check if it's hidden, and if so, unhide it > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4928

  • How can I uninstall Logic Pro 9 from my old computer and reinstall on my new computer?

Pardon the newbie question. I plan to upgrade to a new computer. I have Logic Pro 9 and Mainstage on my current computer and a bunch of other paid software. How can I migrate these paid apps/software to my new computer?
    thanks for any help.

If you installed them from a DVD, you need to install that DVD onto the new computer. If you got them from the Mac App Store, redownload them from there for free.
Having previously purchased an application on DVD or from the iTunes App Store does not allow a free download of it from the Mac App Store.

  • Re installing Logic Pro 9 from App Store

    Hi
I  trying to install a second instance of Logic Pro 9 on an external thunderbolt drive.
The drive has a clean install of OSX Mountain Lion and I want to use this to boot my MacBook Pro 15. I purchased Logic Pro 9 last month from the App Store and it is currently installed on the internal HD in my MacBook Pro.
The external drive is so that I can boot into a clean OS with only Logic installed as I have some critical recordings to do and need a solid platform to work from.
However, if I boot from the external drive and then run the App Store App from this drive, when I go to purchases and Logic 9, the install button just says 'installed' and I can't do anything.
I have seen a number of posts in the Logic help community that leads me to believe that I can install Logic many times on many computers so I  am confused as to why this happening.
    Anyone have any ideas ?
    Thanks
    Ian

Thanks for the reply. This was indeed the key to my problem.
Thank you for taking time to help me out on this.
    Best wishes,
    Ian

  • Would I be able to re-download a purchased app (Logic Pro 9), from the app store, if it has been replace by an upgraded version (Logic X)?

I've purchased Logic Pro 9 for $200 on the app store. I've invested time and moneny into plugins and creating music with this DAW. Ever since Logic X replaced the previous version, I've been worrying about whether or not I'd be able to re-download my Logic 9. When I go to the "Purchased" tab in the App Store, it says that the app is unavailable. I'll be going to college soon and I want to take my Logic 9 from my iMac to a MacBook Pro. However, when the time comes to move to the MacBook Pro, would I have to spend another $200 for a version that I don't want?

Your purchased copy of LP9 that you bought from the Mac App store.. should appear under the Purchase Tab so long as you have signed into the Mac App Store using the original Apple ID you used to purchase it in the first place....
If it doesn't.. simply sign out of the Mac App Store via the menu item Store/Sign Out.. and sign back in again using your original Apple ID and it should then reappear....
Also remember.. not to click on the LP9 icon itself in the entry under the Purchase tab..  but the download/install button to the far right of it's entry under the Purchase tab... and don't try to download it anywhere else in the Mac App Store as you will then get that 'Unavailable' message...

  • Downloading Logic Pro 9 from Mac App Store

What exactly will I be getting from the Logic Pro package available on the mac app store? How exactly does it differ from the full studio version (everything minus MainStage ?)
I am following David Nahmani's Logic Pro 9 book ... does the mac app store version contain have all the jam packs and loops (if not, how does one download/access the extra content?)
I was ready to go through Nahmani's book, but couldn't even access the "Trip Hop" loops in chapter one in the version I have...thinking about getting the mac app store version if it's all inclusive.
    Thanks

The Appstore version of Logic Pro is the same as that in the Studio version, but you do need to download all the Additional Content from within Logic (see the Logic Pro menu).
The Studio package included MainStage, Soundtrack Pro (now discontinued), Waveburner (discontinued), Compressor (now available separately on the Appstore), plus a bunch of other bits and pieces.
The Nahamani book includes some 'extra' Appleloops to cater for those without the full set of JamPacks

Hmm.... so you already have the "Logic Studio" version, with all the content installed????

  • Why does my Logic Pro (downloaded from App Store) suddenly hang when I load it up? Made no changes, can't figure it out.

    Suddenly stopped working.
It hangs at 'Loading core audio'. Cannot figure out for the life of me why.
Tried installing a version from disc, but it said it was not compatible with Mountain Lion. I'm running 10.8.2.
Did no updates, nothing. Just suddenly will not work.
Have tried reinstalling etc. etc., but again, nothing.
    Help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks.

What have you recently installed (such as plugins, drivers other DAWs etc)?
If you hold down the Control Key and then launch Logic Pro, does Logic start up successfully?
