Transition to white effect

Hi all,
anyone can suggest to me the best way to obtain a large used transition to white.
Not a simple deep to white color tansition, but I'm thinking at that effect where the highlights, especially the whites, "glow up" and seems to expand and "swallow" the darkest parts of the frame.
I hope I have explained well what i am looking for. You can see this effect often in action film trials.

Under the Effects-Lumetri Looks-Desaturation choose a B and W effect. Then add the luma corrector from the Video effects-colour correction section. Adjust the brightness and contrast to get the effect you want.

How to get black and white effect in photos

I have always wondered how people get to add black and white effect in a photograph. Anyone with tips and/or videos to show how this is done?

Start with a raw image for detail, you can adjust anything here especially shadow and highlight detail, the second button). You can then use the adjustment layer of black & white. Start with auto, but how pull the sliders around is different for each phot. If you still want to enhance certain areas I suggest color balance (under the black and white) for shad, mids, highlights.

Black & White Effect On Camera

I am new to iPhone Development. I am using UIImagePickerView and AVCaptureSession to Open Camera. I want to set Color Effect and black & white Effect on Camera.

It is quite possible there may be a defect with your iSight camera (back side). How old is your iPhone? If you are more than 90 miles from an Apple Store you can call 1-800-APL-CARE and they can set up a mailed repair for you?
Keep in mind a mail-in repair without having AppleCare on your phone may cost you to have it turned around quickly. (Just buy the AppleCare for you phone and it should be fast)

Where can I get more filters, transitions and special effects for FC?

I thought I heard that there is a third party company that has transitions and cool effects and filters I could use with final cut express. Does anyone know who they are, and if they are creditable?

Oh no I don't have a problem with free and I don't think expensive things means it's better. It's just easier to install a couple discs of software then to go through a bunch of sites and sift through all the free ones. I used to use iMovie and GeeThree made it easy with all their discs. That's why I am looking for software. Plus if anything ever happens to my computer it wouldn't take any time at all to reinstall the CD then to go through and find everything again. Thank you again for your suggestions.

Got it! Thanx. What I did was go to my account, check that they had my new ID and Password which they did, then hit reset button. All fixed.

Is there a way I can export a video in the Black and White effect

On Universal Access in the System Preferences there is that option to make the whole computer in Negative and when I use that on a video i've made it looks so much cooler but like it only stays like that if it is in black and white effect.
Is there a way to make a video in the black and white effect even if that isn't on in Universal Access.

Frame, transition and other effects for FCP

I'm still waiting for my Version 5 upgrade, and was wondering if there are any cool frame, transition or other effects out there that anyone can recommend? I'm looking for frames for PIP, "flash" for transitioning between vid and jpegs, other cool transitions, etc.

Keyframing Black & White effect?

Has anyone had this problem? I had a student who wanted the Black & White effect to fade in over the course of a 30 second clip in one of her projects. She applied the effect, keyframed it in the Video Animation panel above the clip, let it render, and it played back perfectly in her Timeline. When exported, the entire clip was black and white. If she quit and then reopened FCP, the entire clip was black and white. We deleted preferences, repaired permissions, and reapplied the effect, but the problem remained.
Our workaround was to leave the Black & White effect applied to the entire clip, place a copy of the clip above the original, and fade the opacity of the copy. That worked. Anybody else with a similar experience? Is this worth reporting as feedback?
We're using FCP 10.0.9 in OS 10.8.5 on a 3.2GHz Intel core i3 iMac with 8GB of RAM. The footage is AVCHD 1920x1080 shot on a Panasonic camcorder (can't recall which model) optimized to ProRes422.

Yes, it's reproducible. It does not happen when you keyframe the effect use the amount value in the inspector.

Mixing Black and White effects and color to one picture in iPhoto

No, not with iPhoto. You'll need a 3rd party application like Photoshop Elements which can select areas in a photo and desaturate it, leaving the rest in color like this. This is another example of what you can do with it.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

Reflection White effect in Motion 2?

Very new to Motion 2, I still have a greatt deal to learn. But I was wonder if there's a way to create the refection effects seen in iMovie HD, version iLife 6? I really like that effecta nd would like to be able to create similar effects in Motion. Can this be done? If so, can someone give be a step-by-step or point me in the general direction? Thank you!

Thank you Patrick, but specifically, I'm trying to figure out how I can create the 3D motion as created by the iMovie 6 "Reflection White (or black) theme. I can see, somewhat, how to create a reflection and have that reflection be 3D and move, What I can't figure out is how to create the perspective of the image, or movie, changing with the movement—e.g., appearing as if to slide along a path and shrink or grow as it moves along the X, Y and Z planes. As with the "Reflection" themes, pictures and movies and move and swing in 3D space. I'm trying to simulate that type of motion.

Can't apply transitions to After Effects comps in Premiere Pro

Hi people, newbie Premiere user here (my boss is trying to convert me from FCS) :-) I downloaded the trial version of CS5 and want to learn as much as I can before my initial 30 days is up. My initial experience has been pleasant, but I've come up against an obsticle I could sure use some help with.
1)     Creating my timeline with serveral clips
2)     Exporting certain clips to After Effects; 'Replace with After Effects composition'
3)     Adding my effects
4)     Back in Premiere Pro my clip is replaced by the comp.
5)     Try to apply a simple cross-dissolve across 'Comp 01/Comp 02'
PROBLEM!
Seems the transition will only snap to the start of the second comp. With clips I can drag & drop the effect to span the clips and get perfect results, but not on an After Effects comp.
6)     In Premiere Pro 'Effect controls' change parameter so that the transition centre is at 'cut'
The result indeed spans the clips, but the effect quality is terrible - decent fade from comp 01 to a sudden dip to black before fade-up on comp 02.
Yes, I understand the 'Layers' concept, but I'm not asking the software to do anything nonsensical, just a simple cross-fade across 2 comps.
I really would appreciate any advice anyone can offer, I'd really like to be converted (mainly because if I AM my boss has promised to buy me a licence when my 30 days are up!) :-)

To expand a bit on Colin's comments, back in the film days, the concept of Handles was easy to grasp, as the pieces of film were on an A and a B Roll, and the editor had to physically overlap them by the desired amount, so that the lab could print with a Dissolve. The same held for the days of A-B Roll digital editing, where the Clips were again physically overlapped on separate Tracks. Then, digital editors were developed that allowed one to edit with the Clips on a single Track, and where Transitions were applied between them. The Handles were necessary still, but were no longer visually obvious.

Transitions with After Effects CS3

Hi all,
I have Production Studio CS3 Premium. I have created an intro inside After Effects, using texts and a still image. It lasts for 12 seconds. I have rendered the intro and imported it into Premiere. I am now trying to add transitions (cross dissolve) at the end of the intro, but for some reason Premiere will not allow me to do so. I am trying the cross dissolve inbetween the intro and the start of a still image (50/50.). Also tried other transitions but will not work. The transitions only work at the start or at the end of the intro, but will not overlap onto the next image.

yikes... I just deleted every single editing thing on my hard drives...to prepare for this red camera test stuff.. and music video...so have like NO samples left anymore...of anything...but I recall having trouble doing a transition in the "middle" of two "clips" ...where it wanted to jump to the left clip or right, but not sit in the middle...using cs3....and I honestly dont remember now why that happened...but it might have been any number of things ...and thought maybe it was a still image on one side or something...
and it wasnt a matter of "duplicating frames" either..it just wouldnt go there...
so I did it manually...stack the clips and fade one out as I fade the other in...was easy solution...
sorry ...dont remember the exact reason it acted weird...the manual solution was the fastest solution.. I think Ann had some cool info about what was going on with my own samples...but still it wasn't "perfect"...just sorta explained what was going on maybe ???
