Transitioning from GarageBand 6 to 10

Hey everyone, I have an 09 macbook pro running snow leopard and Garageband 6 ('11) I just bought a new imac with mavericks and am wondering how to transfer my software instruments...I've read that if you copy the hd/library/application support/garageband/instrument library/sampler files and sampler instruments that they are available in a "legacy" tab in Garageband 10... I copied all the files from my macbook pro to my imac, but this "legacy" section does not appear, nor do any of the software instruments...what step in the copying process am I missing? Please help

For example, under "Synth Leads" I chose "Arena Run" and then went into the "sound generator" menu and chose the setting "fat bulbass" and clicked "save instrument"
Your save instruments should be in your user library-
~/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/
In MacOS X 10.9.2 your User Library is probably still hidden, as is the default in Mavericks: To open your hidden user library:
Select the "Home" folder icon (the little house) in the Finder's sidebar and press the key combination ⌘J to open the "view options".
Enable "Show Library Folder".
Then open the Home folder and open the Library folder inside
and navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/GarageBand
After restoring ~/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/, restart the system again. It used to suffice to log off and on again, but Mavericks requires a restart.

Well, seems I managed to unscrew this...I deleted my iCloud mail account and reinstalled it on my phone. That got rid of the duplicate .me/.mac email accounts.

Is there a way to extract the transitions from the trailers in iMovie '11 to use in my own movie?

I want to create an iMovie, and I'd like to use bits and pieces from the different movie trailers templates. Is there a way for me to extract just the transitions from these trailers.
I don't want to use the trailers themselves as they are now because the options are too limited in respect to how I can create the movie. For example, there are times where I only want two words on the screen, but I am forced to use three instead. Also, I would like to delete such things as "cast" and "credits," but it doesn't seems like I can do that either.

No there is not.
You could create a trailer, share it and then re-import and cut out just the pieces you want, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.

Occasional sharp 'beep' sound when transition from a photo to a video

Hi guys-
I've been looking everywhere trying to solve this without any luck (doesnt seems like many out there with such problem).
I'm compiling a video for a family event (comprising of still photos and video clips) but i noticed that occasionally when the compilation play from a still to a video clip- it'll emit a sharp 'beep' noise.
This is what i checked and confirm so far-
1. it happens only when moving from a photo to a video (but not always occur).
2. the video clip has original sound volume set to 0.
3. original video clip does not contain the beep.
4. background song does not contain the beep.
5. not all transition from photo following video produce such beep.
6. the beep still happens even with the background song removed (technically no voice element in the project).
Can anyone share any ideas/experience around this?

Does this happen just when playing in iMovie, or after you've rendered the video into a finalized stand-alone file? If you haven't exported the movie yet, I'd try that and see if the beep is still there.

The transition from iPhone 3Gs to iPhone 4

I purchased my iPhone 3GS not long ago and as such had to pay $399.99 when I purchased my new iPhone 4.
When my new iPhone 4 arrives from Apple what should I expect to have to do in order to get my ATT service transitioned from the 3GS to the iPhone 4? Will the new iPhone 4 come with a new SIM card that already has my current iPhone 3Gs phone number on it? Will I have to move the SIM card from the 3GS to the iPhone 4? Will I need to contact ATT to have service on the 3GS turned off?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

It's really easy, you will need to backup your 3GS prior, then you would connect the iPhone 4 to iTunes and it will walk you through the process. It will ask you if this is for an existing line or new number, select the existing line and off you go. It will transfer the new number to the sim, deactivate the old sim on the 3GS and then restore the iPhone 4 with the backup you just did on 3GS. Once that is done you can wipe out the data on the 3GS or just leave it - the 3GS now becomes a glorified iTouch.

Itunes wont play my new mp3 exported from Garageband?

I export my original songs from Garageband 09 in mp3 format and add them to a playlist in itunes. Sometimes Ill make some changes to a song in Garageband and then export and replace the original exported mp3 with the same file name. The preview in Finder plays the new version but when I double click it or open it with itunes it plays the old one? Even when I delete the old one from the playlist and import the new file? Weird!

I have a similar problem .. when I import a movie, modify the audio track add sounds and music ect... export to iTunes only the original movie audio comes thru. When I check the file in the iTunes movie folder it has the Garageband sounds as I modified it. Opening the movie in Quicktime it plays the total Garageband mix. I suspect a glitch in iTunes.

Why Can't I Export to Quicktime from Garageband?

Has anyone else experienced this or would know how to fix it...
I created a .mov file from Keynote and brought it into Garageband as a Video Track to sync the music to the Keynote presentation. Now I'm ready to Export to Quicktime from Garageband. When I choose the Export command from the 'Share' menu in Garageband, it runs through two dialog boxes - first "Creating Mixdown" and then "Converting..." - after the second dialog box disappears no Quicktime file is created.
I have tried several things to remedy this, but have had no luck - such as updating to Garageband 3.0.1, running Disk Utility, restarting the computer. I also made sure to check the Preferences in Garageband before exporting.
Can anyone tell me how I can get it to export?
Also, the final Garageband file size is approximately 180MB and the presentation runs approximately 8 minutes. The final file will need to be 'full quality', as it will be shown from a projector at a meeting.

Which export did you use?
Try going into prefs->export, enable the export to disk option.
Than in the Share menu choose export to disk.
Then do a search on the name of your song (in the Finder) and see if it shows up.

Transitioning from XI 3.0 to PI - Security changes?

Does anyone have any experience transitioning from XI to PI, from a security perspective? Any learnings to share? Will be moving from Netweaver 4 to 7 also.

A problem with data acquisitioning in LV 7.1 (transition from Traditional NI-DAQ to NI-DAQmx)

I have a problem with data acquisitioning in LV 7.1.
I made a transition from Tradiotional NI-DAQ to NI-DAQmx in my LabVIEW application.
The problem I have is that when I acquire data in Traditional (without writing somewhere -
just reading) then there is no scan backlog data. But when I acquire data in application that
acquisition is based on DAQmx than a scan backlog indicator shows numbers from 20 to 50 for
about 6 min and then that number quite quickly increases until I get an error (unable to
acquire data. The data was overwritten).
Acquisition settings are the same in both cases. When I acquire with DAQmx I use a global
channels. Is a reason for that phenomenon in global channels data procesing? But it seems
strange why does it flows quite smoothly for about 6 min and then it stucks?

If you have an old Daq unit it may not be compatible with DAQMX. Which DAQ unit do you have? I think NI have a list showing which DAQ driver you can use with your card

Audio exported from garageband inaudible

Hi everyone,
I'm new to garageband and have just hooked up a sony notetaker to my macbook pro and have used garageband to import the audio. Once it imported I listened to some of it and it sounded okay but when I chose "send song to iTunes" and listened to the audio there, it was playing back in "chipmunk" mode, ie. really fast, totally inaudible. Just wondered if anyone could tell me why this is happening?
Also, is it possible to export audio from garageband in an mp3 or .wav format?

The Q&A you directed me to is about a file playing too fast within Garageband. My file is actually playing correctly within Garageband - it's playing too fast in iTunes when I export it.
I tried it anyway though. Since the file was already in the iTunes window, I just set the preferences to AIFF, 44.1K and 16-bit as directed in the instructions. The file was already a .aif file since exporting it from GB but again I chose "Convert to AIFF from under the Advanced menu" according to the instructions.
Apparently once the conversion is done a new file should have been created and listed in the iTunes window, but no new file was created when I did this. Do you know what could have gone wrong?
Also I imported about 1 hours worth of audio from the notebook into GB but when I exported it to iTunes it's coming up as over 11 hours. Do you think some setting was wrong in GB while I was importing that could be causing the problem?

Hello all, like the title says, how would i go about transferring audio from garageband to adobe premiere? I'm making a short movie and want to add narrative audio i recorded in garageband to movie clips i have in adobe premiere cs5, i have the latest garageband and i'm recording audio via the built in imac microphone. I have a slideshow with slides of people, then a slide with a video of someone talking about the person, then more slides, etc... I want to have my playlist play then pause (or fade) so that it does not conflict with the audio from the video clip when it (automatic slide show) transitions to the slide with the video - can I do this and if so how?

How do you make the volume louder when you export music from garageband?

Hey everytime I export my music from garageband the volume seems to die down.. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you

There's two things that are being called "volume": one is the output level of your audio file. Go to GB's preferences and see if the auto-normalize function is checked - if yes, it will automatically adjust the master volume so the maximum level of your output file is 0 dB. If you uncheck it, you can crank up your volume more, but your audio might clip in some places.
The other thing is loudness – audio files with the same peak level have a very different perceivable loudness. That is a question of mastering, i.e. applying compressors and limiters to make the sound more "dense". But that's a whole different story.
