Transitioning from iView MediaPro to Aperture

How can I move the IPTC data from iView MediaPro to Aperture?

Dennis,
one possibility would be to sync Metadata into the files via the action menu followed by file import into Aperture.
Another possibilty would be Annoture which can bridge iview metadata from catalogs to Aperture Projects. It is currently in beta state for Aperture 2.

Hope this helps, Eberhard

  • Transitioning from iPhoto 6 to Aperture on new iMac

Please redirect me if there is somewhere this has been asked, or if there would be a better resource for me. I guess I have several issues here. We have a 2006 iMac with about 12,000 photos stored in iPhoto 6. I am a serious hobbyist, and want to transition to Aperture (at least I think I do, I suppose I am also considering LR3). We have a new iMac on the way, and I want to get some advice on how to best move everything over and set everything up before it gets here. So, here are my questions:
We tried to import everything into Aperture on our current iMac, and could not do an import due to our version of iPhoto being too old. I am wondering if this is going to be a problem with our new iMac as well- in other words, will we have to import everything into a new version of iPhoto, then into Aperture?
Also, our photos have keywords, but the rest of our organizational structure I can do without. We have been importing into iPhoto and naming each import with the date- unless we have forgotten, in which case it is just "Roll whatever". And these folders are organized by year in the IPhoto Originals folder.  I am open to any kind of organizational structure or workflow idea, but I would like to "clean up" our current mess of photos and get everything to be consistent. How can I do this? Should I export and then import, or is this process going to be easier than I expect it will be? How would it be best to get the photos from one computer (iPhoto) into Aperture on a new computer? Use of an external drive, export then import, etc?
Finally, I am not sure how to decide if I should use a referenced library and store all of my photos on an external drive, or to actually put everything into Aperture. Any advice?
Again, sorry if these are repetitive questions. Any advice or help would be much appreciated.

The version on your new Mac won't import the v6 iPhoto Library either.
But the new Mac will have a later version if iPhoto on it, so upgrade the v6 Library with that (just open it with the new version) and then migrate that to Aperture. As always - make sure you have a back up.
Rename the Rolls before doing anything else. Any Rolls not renamed will be split into (possibly) multiple Events on upgrading.  Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable.
IPhoto 6 has no way to export keywords with the files, so if you go that way, or import directly from the Originals folder you will lose your keywords.
With 12k files a Managed Aperture Library is easy, and you can change later should you need to.

  • IView Keywords to Aperture

    Everyone:
I wrote a free script that automatically imports iView Keywords (for version 2.6.4 or 3.0.1 of iView MediaPro) into Aperture's Keywords HUD.
    http://www.tow.com/software/iview-keywords-to-aperture/
The script will create new or append to existing keyword groups in Aperture.
    Enjoy!

  • Work Flow + Two External Drives + Aperture -vs- iView MediaPro

    Greetings!
Hoped for end result: 30 GB of photos available at home and office. Freed up hard drive space on MacBook Pro. An organized system for locating photos.
I am seeking to break my old photo workflow paradigm.
Recently, I have moved 30 GB of images from iPhoto to an external drive (actually to two different external drives). I do not plan to use iPhoto in the future (only minimal use). Insights on the following would be appreciated:
    (1) I have two - FreeAgent Pro - hard drives - 750 GB. One at home and the other in my office. The data on both drives (i.e. 30 GB of image) is identical. A GENEROUS amount of space is still available on these external drives. Just completed this process / setting up both identical drives last night ... identical images at the office and home.
    (2) My hoped for outcome is to be able to access my photos at work / home and have some program (Aperture -vs- iView MediaPro) to manage the work flow. Thus, keeping my MacBook Pro hard drive freed up.
    (3) The majority of Apple Discussion users seem dedicated to using Aperture. What do you see as the benefits of Aperture -vs- iView MediaPro? Yes, I know the latter in now owned my MS.
    (4) Still not totally sure, the best way, to workflow my photos with with the dual external drives and Aperture. Your guidance, please.
    (5) Here is a possible scenario (example):
STEP ONE - (at home) download a new batch of photos (Olympus E-1, high res jpeg's, no raw) onto my macBook Pro (MBP) into folder "A".
STEP TWO - process (ingest) ... move the new photos into Aperture.
STEP THREE - load them into my home external drive.
STEP FOUR - The next time I am in the office load the original jpegs (folder "A") onto my office external drive.
STEP FIVE - Delete the originals photos from folder "A", keeping my MBP hard drive space freed up.
STEP SIX - unsure ... somehow connect the new photos on the office external drive with Aperture (or iView MediaPro).
Where have I missed the boat?! Scrambled things up?! Does this make sense?
For what I am seeking to accomplish, will iView MediaPro accomplish what Aperture could perform?
    Kind regards,
    Bill Siegrist

    Bill-
If all you are doing is managing 30 GB of pre-existing JPEGs in 2007 iVMP is probably superior. However I would venture a guess that you also intend to capture new images with your DSLR. For that you very much want Aperture. And IMO moving to 2008 and beyond Aperture's potential far exceeds iVMP's.
And you did note that iVMP is now owned by MS; not good.
Solving an entire workflow is not something easily done in a few forum paragraphs. I strongly recommend that every DSLR photog with adequate computer hardware first spend $33 and work through the tutorial CD Apple Pro Training Series: Aperture 1.5 (Apple Pro Training) by Orlando Luna and Ben Long (Paperback - Oct 18, 2006).
Have the CD and a MacIntel with 2 GB or preferably more of RAM prior to ordering the Aperture trial so you don't waste time of the 30 day trial. Note that the value is in the tutorial, not in using the book as a manual. Due to the limited hard drive capacity, anyone with a laptop should focus on developing a "Reference Masters" workflow.
You say JPEGs, no RAW. I would in the strongest possible terms recommend that you consider switching to a RAW workflow. In addition to allowing extraordinary post process editing, RAW image files contain much more image data. I believe that your DSLR will capture up to a dozen RAW pix before the buffer fills. Shooting JPEGs is a serious under utilization of a capable DSLR.

  • IView MediaPro 3 V FotostationPro 5.2

I have been using Fotostation 4.5 on OS9.2 for a number of years, it has worked very well however it is now a little old and among other things does not handle RAW files. I now wish to update and have tried the demo of both iView MediaPro 3 and FotostationPro 5.2. In many ways they are both similar but at the same time very different.
iView MediaPro 3 seems more versatile and adapts itself to what you are evolving from and the price is sensible at $236. FotostationPro 5.2 seems to be more restrictive and at $599 a little expensive.
My question is, has anyone out there professionally used both of these products and what are their views. In other words which is the best?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • I imported some 24P HD videos from my DSLR to Aperture but these videos do not show up in iMovie '09 for editing purposes. Although my previous 24P HD Videos from iPhoto '09 show up. Why can't I access these videos stored in Aperture library?

I imported some 24P HD videos from my DSLR to Aperture but these videos do not show up in iMovie '09 for editing purposes. Although my previous 24P HD Videos from iPhoto '09 show up. Why can't I access these videos stored in Aperture library? I assumed that like  the videos in iPhoto, I would be able to access the videos in Aperture through iMovie. Come on Apple! I am starting to get frustrated with your products here. And this is saying a lot when I have been using and loving apple products for the last 4 years.

Hi. My camera is a Canon 600D. And yes my videos are stored in the Aperture library and they are not referenced. Even then I tried to select all the videos in Aperture and clicked 'consolidate masters' and there was a messge that said all 'none of the files are referenced',... so they didn't need consolidating.
I also tried preferences> export> external video editor > choose > iMovie. And then right click on the video to edit with imovie. Even then the video didn't show up in iMovie. It seems like the only option for me is to import the videos directly to iMovie which means there will be two versions of the same file stored in my computer eating up space.
    APPLE. What are you doing?

I have .me and .mac email accounts on my iPhone 4. I thought I had successfully transitioned from MobileMe to iCloud, but something must be wrong. iCloud seems to work fine on my computer and, with the exception of two email accounts, seems to be fine on my phone. Can/should I delete the accounts on my phone and start over? It is somewhat of a nuisance to have two email accounts and double the amount of emails. The only thing different about the two iCloud accounts is the email addresses. Thanks.

Well, seems I managed to unscrew this...I deleted my iCloud mail account and reinstalled it on my phone. That got rid of the duplicate .me/.mac email accounts.

  • Is there a way to extract the transitions from the trailers in iMovie '11 to use in my own movie?

I want to create an iMovie, and I'd like to use bits and pieces from the different movie trailers templates. Is there a way for me to extract just the transitions from these trailers.
I don't want to use the trailers themselves as they are now because the options are too limited in respect to how I can create the movie. For example, there are times where I only want two words on the screen, but I am forced to use three instead. Also, I would like to delete such things as "cast" and "credits," but it doesn't seems like I can do that either.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Cheers.

    No there is not.
You could create a trailer, share it and then re-import and cut out just the pieces you want, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.

  • Occasional sharp 'beep' sound when transition from a photo to a video

    Hi guys-
I've been looking everywhere trying to solve this without any luck (doesnt seems like many out there with such problem).
I'm compiling a video for a family event (comprising of still photos and video clips) but i noticed that occasionally when the compilation play from a still to a video clip- it'll emit a sharp 'beep' noise.
This is what i checked and confirm so far-
    1. it happens only when moving from a photo to a video (but not always occur).
    2. the video clip has original sound volume set to 0.
    3. original video clip does not contain the beep.
    4. background song does not contain the beep.
    5. not all transition from photo following video produce such beep.
    6. the beep still happens even with the background song removed (technically no voice element in the project).
Can anyone share any ideas/experience around this?
    Thanks in advance!
    - Ryan

Does this happen just when playing in iMovie, or after you've rendered the video into a finalized stand-alone file? If you haven't exported the movie yet, I'd try that and see if the beep is still there.

  • The transition from iPhone 3Gs to iPhone 4

I purchased my iPhone 3GS not long ago and as such had to pay $399.99 when I purchased my new iPhone 4.
When my new iPhone 4 arrives from Apple what should I expect to have to do in order to get my ATT service transitioned from the 3GS to the iPhone 4? Will the new iPhone 4 come with a new SIM card that already has my current iPhone 3Gs phone number on it? Will I have to move the SIM card from the 3GS to the iPhone 4? Will I need to contact ATT to have service on the 3GS turned off?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

It's really easy, you will need to backup your 3GS prior, then you would connect the iPhone 4 to iTunes and it will walk you through the process. It will ask you if this is for an existing line or new number, select the existing line and off you go. It will transfer the new number to the sim, deactivate the old sim on the 3GS and then restore the iPhone 4 with the backup you just did on 3GS. Once that is done you can wipe out the data on the 3GS or just leave it - the 3GS now becomes a glorified iTouch.

  • Download to Excel - I need to put button to get data from iView to excel

Can anyone help me by telling an easy way to download the contents of iViews to Excel. As the fields are in different Nodes and components I am not able to get all the fields in standard application. Is there any easy approach to download the data from iview itself? Please help me on this.

    Hi Simon,
Thanks a lot for the solution.
But the problem I have is : I have put a button on Excel to download, on click of button the RFC is triggered and data will be pulled for download. But I need the data from iview with out database intraction as it has been already fetched to display in iView so the data must be stored some in portal. As far as I have analysed I found that fields are from different Components so when I go for all fields it is almost like complete customization which is not recommended, I need a data pool where the data is available so that I can download all at a strech. Is it possible to download the iview as such.

  • Transitioning from XI 3.0 to PI - Security changes?

Does anyone have any experience transitioning from XI to PI, from a security perspective?  Any learnings to share?  Will be moving from Netweaver 4 to 7 also.
Looking at the guide, the AS ABAP roles look similar.
Are there new features that have require special attention?

    Mary,
Their is no difference, except Service Users(Names).

How do you move photos from I photo to aperture? I've downloaded onto i photo but having difficulty moving events over

What version of iPhoto? And of Aperture?
If you have Aperture 3.3 and iPhoto '11 version 9.3 or later you simply use the same library - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5260?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • Remove horizontal scroll bar from iview

    HI,
My portal page have 2 iviews and one of them is Webdynpro iview; these iviews are placed in the page horizontally. Page and webdynpro ivew both of them have unnecessarily horizontal scrollbar.  At least I want to remove horizontal scrollbar from iView. (Our portal version is 6.0 SP 18). It looks like that it is not possible to do this by changing any iView property. Even I checked theme properties but figured out nothing.
Who knows more and can help me?
    Regards,
    Mesut

    Mesut,
Its possible to remove the horizondal tool bar in an iView.
Either you can change/modify the content that making horizondal tool bar or Customize the Layout
    in portal.
Download the layout par file and upload into NWDS. Create your own layout/ changing the width of existing one. If you are modifying the existing layout, then that may effect all other pages where that particular layour is beeing used.
