Transitions  (Random) in Keynote.

Why in the new Key Note that we still do not have "Random" Transitions.
I find it very frustrating making a slide selection, and having to select each slide to get a different Transition.
Then If I want to change the timing on all the Slides it changes all the slides back to one transition.
This is a trial seeing that I building a very large slide show for a meeting.
Power point has had this simple operation since it was invented.
Just as a note I have been an apple Mac user since the 80's
Harry

Probably no help, but if you could set up ten or twenty slides with different transitions.
Then make all images on these slides placeholders, you can then just duplicate from these first 10-20 slides +at random+ as you build you presentation and paste into the imageholders , edit the text etc.

  • Transitions toast in keynote 3?

Is it true that in keynote 3 that all transitions diapear when exporting to flash?
I was think of upgrading, but my transitions work in keynote 2 when exporting to flash.

it's true...though in a pinch you could do a save as on your project and save back to K2, then open with K2 and export from there. Not sure what might get broken, but it's a good bet photos masked with a shape would break.

  • Many Keynote 2 transition missing in Keynote 3

I recently upgraded to iWork'06 and am now very dissapointed to discover that some of my favorite transition effects from Keynote 2 are not included in Keynote 3. Missing 2D transitions are Drop, Falling Tiles, Grid, Motion Dissolve, and twirl - all really great transitions - except for maybe twirl. Missing 3D transition is Burn. I thought '06 was a 'new and improved' proposition to iWork'05 users- not 'it's about even - once you figure in everything we took out'. I mean, does something have to be deleted for anything new added. What else is missing? I'm upset. Does anyone know how to restore these transitions? I still own iWork '05 and it's still loaded on my computer. I could start a keynote in '05 and then continue in '06 - I think - but that would be really irksome.
Com'on Apple - Its about value add, not value subtract.

    Cadillac88,
you can in fact "restore" the transitions:
Go to Keynote's Preferences and set the check mark at "Include obsolete animations in choices". That's all.
If this information is useful to you, please mark it as "helpful" or "solved" using the little buttons in the titlebar of this message. Thank you.

  • Can I add a sound to a transition in a Keynote slide show?

I understand how to add sound to a slide, but I want the sound to play during the transition.  Can I do that?

That particular feature is not supported in Keynote. If you would like to let the folks at Apple know of your needs, send them some feedback:

  • Transitions reset when Keynote is 'hidden' mid-presentation

I often need to hide Keynote midway through a presentation to open another app. I used the h key in Keynote 08 and everything worked fine, but since I upgraded to '09 every time I hide a presentation, it resets to the beginning of that slide I was on and I have to go through all the transitions on the slide again. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Not especially elegant, but it works...
Since you're using OS X Leopard, employ Spaces to switch into your other application in a different space (e.g., control+3 switches to space 3 while the Keynote is running -- the action will pause the presentation, even if it's in the middle of a build or transition). When you want to return to your Keynote, use either the command+tab keyboard shortcut, or click on Keynote in the Dock to resume seamlessly where the presentation was interrupted.

  • Re: Many Keynote 2 transition missing in Keynote 3

I saw a note out there that talked about many of the kenote transition missing in 06 that where in 05 and the solution was to include obsolete animations in the preferences. Question is if I dont have the old version of 05 will I still be able to see the old trnasitions?

You're saying that in Keynote 3 you went into the prefs and checked the box for turning back on the old effects and they're not showing up? In no way is Keynote 2 required to get those back, they're built into K3, just turn on the pref and they're back. If they're not showing up then your app is hosed or something.

  • Which Keynote fonts & transitions are compatible with Powerpoint?

    Hi,
I've used some jazzy transitions in my Keynote and will export to Powerpoint and play it from a PC. Now I'm told that there might be compatibility issues with the transitions. Can anyone tell me what are the safe transitions I can use in Keynote that Powerpoint will play without hiccups? Similarly, I've used some fonts like Catull and Headline. Will these be a problem in Powerpoint or does it just read off the pixels, not the font?
    Thanks.

You will have font problems unless you can install your fonts on the pc. There aren't many compatible transitions, even dissolve may turn into the ugly blocky transition if you have Powerpoint 2003. Pushing a slide to the side may translate. It's just not a good idea to create a fancy presentation in Keynote when you know you are going to have to convert it to PC Powerpoint. You will always create more work for yourself. You can do initial layout in Keynote but any animating, special fonts, etc. you should do in the platform you will use in the end.

  • Keynote transition effects on fcp

Just wondering if anyone know how I can use keynote effects on fcp. Or how I can get transition plugins that Keynote program is using to use in fcp.

    Hi MooVee,
Afraid that Keynote and FCP are two different beasts, so there's no plug-in infrastructure or the like to share transition styles.
You can, however, generate clips in Keynote and export them as QuickTime movies into Final Cut. I use Keynote as my primary titling tool, as it's so fast and easy to use. For creating titles, be sure that your Master has a Transparent (None) background, and your slide the same. Then create your title animation, and Export it as a QuickTime movie with the "Include transparency" checkbox ticked, and using the Animation compression settings. This will give you a QT clip with an alpha channel that you can add to your FCP timeline.
I sometimes monkey with the size of the Keynote master to match the video size, and bring in still screenshots form the video to put in as a compositional reference (deleting it, of course, when I export the movie). But as you know, you can ultimately adjust the placement of the video in FCP, so it's not always necessary.

  • I updated to the new iWork Keynote... Animation/transition "Perspective" is no longer available... I wonder why?

Any reason why Apple deleted "Perspective" in their transition/animation... that was my favorite of them all.

The transitions are still there; they're just not enabled.
Since the removal of the option to restore old transitions in the Keynote menu, they remain inaccessible.
To prove they're still there - select the new Keynote app, right click, then select 'Show package contents'.
Navigate to 'Contents' -> 'Resources'; all the old Transitions are there under 'KNTransition' including my old favourite 'Color Planes' that has now disappeared too.
Someone just need to work out how to reactivate them...
Or Apple just needs to turn them on again.

  • Keynote and Gotomeeting issue

When I do a live online gotomeeting and use Keynote as my presentation app, the other parties just see a blank screen. Other presentation apps (PPT, OpenOffice) work fine. Any ideas? Thanks.

Fonts, builds, themes and transitions  created in Keynote that do not have a counterpart in PowerPoint will cause issues. Look at the 4 slides causing problems and change the contents accordingly.

  • Using keynote presentation on projector have had brief loss of signal

I have changed projector and iPad and still experience during keynote presentation a brief loss of signal to projector.
This happens at random and keynote presentation restarts on projector. Tried every source to help and followed all advice and it still
happens at random.  Can play a movie using same gear no problem at all; Please Help.

Please do not type in all caps, that is considered shouting on a public forum and also rude which I am sure is not your intent. I would also suggest reposting in the Keynot forum, that is where the Keynote gurus are likely to be.
    Good luck.

  • Speech addition to keynote-presentation

I want to add speech to a keynote presentation. I found:
    Keynote 4.0 Help (iWork '08)
       http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Keynote/4.0/en/c9kn36.html
The first instructionset doesn't work.: To send your slideshow to GarageBand:
In Keynote, choose File > Send To > GarageBand.
When I press "file" I do not see "Send to".The closest I get is in dutch: " exporteer", however this seems to be only to export the keynote-file to pwowerpoint.
I hope you can help me

You could be running into memory issues, especially if your presentation is making use of some of the 3D transition FX in Keynote. The stuttering sounds like it's not possible to keep enough of the video stashed in RAM and it needs to go back to the disk too often.
This sounds pretty unlikely considering the system you're running this on, but it's my best guess. If the videos in your Keynote don't need to be run full-screen, you may be able to encode them at a smaller frame size to optimize the processing. But I always keep everything at the 29.97 frame rate for smoothness sake.

  • Problem Converting Keynote Quicktime to WMV with Flip4Mac

    HI All
I can see that perhaps one other person may have had this issue. I have a continuous presentation exported from Ketnote as a Quicktime Movie. This plays from end to end without a hitch.
I am using Flip4Mac to convert to WMV, something I have done on many occasions with other QT files without issue (not from Keynote)
The resulting file only exports to the first transition in the Keynote presentation.
I have made the quicktime continuous (so it does not stop at slide changes) I have tried un-checking the sprite track option.
Pretty much every combination but it still always only exports to the first transition.
Any clues ? What am I missing ?
    Thanks for your help

    Hi
yes it does however I have been messing around over the weekend and have got some of the way to solving this.
Sorry its a bit long and convoluted but here goes.
I extracted the video and audio tracks as suggested below and made a new flattened movie.
I then found a utility to remove all the chapter markers from Ecamm Network.
This removed every chapter (slide) marker.
I then re-saved and made a WMV from that file. It exported until the last transition and stopped !! ( I checked with the orig file)
So I then converted the end section to WMV and joined the 2 WMV files together in Quicktime Pro.
This then played happily from end to end.
BUT you cant then save that as a WMV ! Quicktime exports it again as a .mov
So I thought that .mov must work if I convert that to wmv but no, stops in the exact same place.
There is no sprite track no chapters but there must be some other metadata that is upsetting Flip4Mac
    Anyway closer than I was.
Cant import to FCP or use DV as despite setting the frame rate to 25 in Keynote it actually exports at 22 so any 'video' frame rates make the animation very jerky as you would expect.
thanks for you help though everyone

  • Automatic slide transition and playing movies

I am currently creating a presentation to showcase our children's work at school. I have a few videos to play within the slideshow. Is it possible to make keynote wait for the movie to finish playing before a transition? I realise I can set a Delay - but this gets tedious as I have to check each files length - and this is something that we want to change regularly. Also - more annoyingly - there seems to be no relationship between the lenghth of a movie in quicktime and it's length playing within keynote. A 3 minute quicktime video, with a 180 second delay in keynote, finishes a good 20 before transition. Can Keynote be made to wait for a video to stop playing before it moves on to the next slide?
Also - I used to be able to embed a webpage in a keynote slide - has this ability gone in '09? Thanks in advance!

I am having the exact same problem! I need to take my presentation to school, and our campus is not-so Mac friendly. I don't want to lug my 20" iMac to class. Either I have to use a remote with my quicktime file to advance the slides after the clip is finished, or the page simply advances before the video is finished. There must be some way to remedy this. A friend mentioned putting the project into iMovie, but wouldn't that entail recreating the entire project I just spent a week making? How so I do this right?

Presenter Display options are missing : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5470350?tstart=0

The Presenter Display still works for me if enabled in preferences. The Presenter Preferences have now moved to the Presenter Display (they're the second icon in with the 3 square boxes) - select this icon to show what to show or hide.
