Translate role shorttexts. Was: "description of roles"

Hi,
when I want to translate texts in SE63 I have to translate all transactions first, line by line, before I can translate the shorttext. Is there a nicer way for this?
Kind regards
Michael

Hi Armstrong,
I generally use the program Z_ROLE_SET_MASTERLANG to change the original language of the role for maintaining the role description . PLease try if this helps you in seeing the description as well in the language you need .
PLease ignore if you already know this and if My understanding of your doubt is not correct.
Let me know in case you need any help in executing this progrm.
Thank you

  • Translate role description

We need to have the role description in two languages (English and German).
All roes have been build using an English logon so the only available description is currently in English.
We have been able to translate the menu entries, but the customer wants the description of the role to be in German when a user logs on in German.
We cannot find how to do that
Any ideas? Or rather experiences ??

  • I am looking for the google toolbar for Firefox 8.0 because the translation it had was the best. Nothing matches it. Can anyone help me find it?

    I'm using Firefox 8.0.1 with Windows 7
Ever since I updated Mozilla to this newer version, I have been having problems with translation options. I have tried many other translation plugins and they're just not as good (so please don't suggest them).
I use sites in various languages and write in different languages too. What's great about this translator was that you could hover over a word and in an instant it automatically detected the language and translated the word (or highlighted text). No clicks, no language selections, no shortkeys. I need something similar.

The Google Toolbar for Firefox was discontinued by Google last summer.

  • Portal role folder translation

    Hi all,
I'm translating the portal content created in different languages with the worklist functionality (EP 6.0 sp2). All portal objects like iViews, pages, worksets and roles can be translated but I've not found so far the possibility to add to the traslation worklist objects like the portal role folders (object type com.sapportals.portal.rolefolder). The portal role folders are used to structure in trees the content in the detailed navigation.
Can you please tell me how these can be translated?
    Thanks,
    Silvia .

    Hi Silvia,
you don't have to use the RAW TEXTS for role folders. You can however translate role folder titles and descriptions in any available language. BUT you first have to translate them from source language: Raw Texts to target language (e.g.): English
Then you can translate them from English to any other language you desire.
The issue described in note 778884 is the following: When you create a role with master language "English" and you want to translate that role into other languages (e.g. Frensh, Spanish, etc.) and you choose English as source language in the translation tool, you won't see the texts for the role folders!
As, due to a bug, texts for role folders are initially saved only as Raw Texts, they don't appear in English (master language).
You first have to translate them from "Raw" to "English" and then everything is fine.
Hope I could shed some light on this.

  • Portal and role based access

We have a requirement to provide role based access to our portal. Employees require full portal access, partners require access to specific applications and resources, while guests should be provided access only to the Internet. People suggested SSL VPN from vendors like Array Networks, Juniper, Portwise etc.
We are trying to kind of use our portal as a web VPN. Also we wanted to use strong access control.... Are there any ideas other than using SSL VPN's.
    -thanks

    1. You can configure your portal on HTTPS (SSL). That keeps it on secure SSL layer.
    2. Have SSO to distinguish between authenticated_users (logged in users like your employees, partners, etc) and un-authenticated_users (Guest).
    3. Use Groups for translating roles for your users. i.e., Make Groups for your users based on what you called as roles in your message.
    4. Assign access privileges available in portals for pages and portal objects according to your needs to these Groups.
I dont think VPN will be needed when you are having an extranet-portal (as you hinted internet for guests).
You can have a darn strong access control using this mechanism.
    hope that helps!

  • Translating Task Description

    Hi,
When I am including User Decision step in my Workflow, the standard task is added with description like
"Choose one of the decision options given. This completes the processing of this step...etc., "
If I am logging in using other language say 'Danish' then also this task description is appearing English only.
Is there any way that I can do the translation for the task description & use it for other logon languages??
    Thanks,
    Siva

    Hi,
Yes. I have the option to translate workitem text from workflow. I have done that already.
    1)  But I want to translate the Task Description for the particular task in PFTC. In the description tab of the task, there is an option to select other languages. For Std. Task, I am getting the option of 'Danish'. But for custom task I have created, Iam not getting the option 'Danish'.
    2)  Also I dont know how to use this option. I have logged on using English language. I want to add Danish description. So In which language I should maintain the description?
    How can I acheive this?
    Thanks,

  • Portal Content Translation - Transport

    Hello
We created some worklist in Portal Content Translation to translate the texts in roles, worksets and iViews from English (source) to German (end user).
Now, we need to transport these worklists to the Test Portal and we tried to follow the steps as described in the help below:
    [Performing Language Transports|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/f8/a4c0b28ab7324d835176fdbbb28c3e/frameset.htm]
    It did not work:
    1) We created a Package with "text_only" property, filled it with the worklists and selected the language to be transported in "Language Transport" menu, but the deployment failed.
    2) We created a Package without "text_only" property, filled it with the worklists and did not select any language to be transported. Once imported, the worklists were in the Test Portal, but the translation to german was not in them.
    3) We created a Package similar to the one in step 2, but selected the language to be transported in the "Language Transport" menu. The result was the same we had in step 2.
So, what must we do to transport not only the worklists, but also the translations created in the Development Portal?
    Thanks in advance, regards!
    Jon

    Hi,
I'm not sure if I did understand you correctly, but it seems that you want to transport the translation worklist? To transport the translated content, you'll have to do
    1. create a translation worklist and assign the PCD objects (iviews, pages, roles)
    2. translate the content
    3. publish the translated content
    4. create a transport package containing the PCD objects translated and transport this package (eg: text_only).

  • Tooltip for the Navigation Node - language dependent / translation?

Is it possible to provide language dependent Tooltip for the Navigation Node.
I tried the Portal content translation, but there was no possibility to translate the tooltip.
    Talking about this:
    Property ID: com.sap.portal.navigation.Tooltip
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp2/helpdata/en/49/32a70ee8c45aaae10000000a42189d/frameset.htm

    Hi Van Vi,
when I get your question right, you are looking for a possibility to change the text of the navigation items, not the text inside a content page, correct?
I am using MII 12.0.2. The workaround for me was to create different roles like "XMII User EN", "XMII User DE" which contain the navigation item in the according language. The content pages contain tags like Michael mentioned, e.g. {##LBL_KEYWORD} in an *.irpt page. Those tags are set using the language set for the user in the NetWeaver UME.
Michael, is there a possibility to use this {} notation in the navigation in 12.1, so I do not have to create language based roles?

  • Standard Iviews and Pages Header Translations

    Hi All,
We have a requirement to change the translation of headers for standard iview and pages.
I am maintaining the translations through Portal Content Translation.
    Methods tried -
    1. Added the copied iviews and pages to the translation worklist and changed the translation - No impact
    2. Cleared the cache - No impact
    3. Restarted the portal - no impact
    4. Added the standard iviews and pages to the translation worklist and changed the translation - No impact
Let me know any pointers for the same.
    Regards,
    Indu Garg

    Hi Indu Garg ,
SAP Enterprise Portal provides a process for translating the  Texts of portal objects (iViews, pages, worksets, roles, systems, etc.)
Multilingual object metadata for portal objects that is stored in the database of the Portal Content Directory (PCD). If a property of a portal object has type text attribute, it is marked as a text and can be translated (e.g. name, description).
The translation process is supported by two tools that can be called from the content administration role. Choose Content Administration -->Portal Content Translation --> Translation Worklist Coordination or Worklist Translation. These tools are used to coordinate and to translate translation worklists.
    [Translation Worklist Coordination|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/25/08174082fe1961e10000000a155106/content.htm]

  • Problem with Ukrainean , Russian , English language Route Description

    Hi All,
I have come across a very much unique situation out here as below:
    1. I have created a Route in Development server {English as logon language} with English description.
    2. Then maintained the Translation for this English description into Ukranian description.
    3. Then transportated the changes to Regression Testing server.
    4. Then user has logged into Regression Testing server with Russian Logon language --- because Ukrainian logon language is not installed in Regression.
    5. Then user can see the same route {which was created in Dev with english,Ukrainian description} in Regression with Russian description !!! eventhough I have not maintained the translation from English to Russian in Dev server.
    6. Then, I have created one more route in Dev with ONLY English description.
    7. Transported the same to Regression.
    8. Then user log on in Regression with Russian logon language {as before}
    9. Now, user sees this route with Ukrainian description !!! eventhough I have not maintained the English to Ukrainian translation in Dev.
Now, I have a workaround in this case... I am not maintaining the English to Ukrainian translation in Dev and transporting the same to Regression... the reason for this is User wants the description of the routes in Ukrainian Language only...
But, my query is how come system is behaving in such a weired way ??? can anyone explain the Logic behind this???
Do let me know if you need some more clarity.
    Await your valuable inputs.

    Hi All,
Found out the reason myself... hence closing this thread...

    http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/app/european-space-agency-news/092f5794-8705-49bc-b27e-17ad5fd754b2
The European Space Agency (ESA) is Europe's gateway to space. Its mission is to shape the development of Europe's space capability and ensure that investment in space continues to deliver benefits to the citizens of Europe and the world.
European Space Agency News features nine topical news and image galleries from the ESA and 19 "news from member countries" galleries. Since the news from member countries was presented in the language of that country, I used an in app translate
function so that news in each gallery can be read in multiple languages (languages supported by Bing Translator).

thanks, yes, am using a free key. I can't afford to pay for keys.. The syntax

I tried the following for the description, the syntax doesn't throw any errors,

  • Application Translation Not Working - Primary Key Error

I had created an application translation to Spanish but it wasn't displaying my Spanish translation. I was going to try and redo it so I tried creating a new mapping and then seeding the translatable text. I got a primary key error "ORA-20001: Seed insert error: WWV_FLOW_TOPLEVEL_TABS.TAB_TEXT ORA-00001: unique constraint (FLOWS_030100.WWV_FLOW_TRANSLATABLE_TEXT_PK) violated".
I went in and deleted what I had done through APEX for this app and tried to create a new application but still get the primary key error when I try to seed it. I gave it a new translated application ID but that doesn't seem to help. Anyone have this problem or no of the reason I'm having this issue?
    Thanks.

    Hi David,
Thanks for reporting this. This was an interesting problem to solve.
As it turns out, it was a logic error in Application Express (i.e., bug). When deleting a translation mapping, the associated strings in the translation repository would be deleted for that application, but if and only if you had actually published the application.
I think this is why you could never get Spanish working properly - you had never actually published the application the first time. So I'll bet what you did is deleted the original mapping, then you recreated the mapping for the same language but with a different translated application ID. Since you had never published the application from the original translation mapping, and there were orphaned rows in the translation repository, you encountered a "collision" when you tried to seed the second time with the different translated application ID.
Your action of deleting rows from WWV_FLOW_TRANSLATABLE_TEXT$ cleaned up these orphaned rows. As you stated, this isn't recommended to perform DML on the underlying APEX tables. A couple alternatives could have been:
    1) Before deleting the translated application mapping, actually publish the application and then delete the mapping.
    2) If you had deleted the mapping already, you could recreate the mapping for the same language and with the original translated application ID. Then, publish the application and then go back and delete the mapping.
I realize all this sounds crazy. But it was only an issue because you had not actually published the application. Not your fault, though, as this is a bug in APEX.
This bug will be fixed in Application Express 4.0. This way, you won't have to worry about if you published or didn't publish. The orphaned rows will be cleaned up when you delete a mapping.
    Thanks again for reporting this.
    Joel
