Translate SSM Content in Both French and English

Hi
On a project, users could be able to access SSM 7.5 in both English and French. It concerns Context, Objectives, Perspectives and KPIs.
How can I achieve that in SSM

Hi Jeroen,
If I understand correctly what you are looking for (defined the strategic elements in different languages and use the corresponding language depending on the user preferences) is not provided out of the box.
Maybe what you can do as a workaround is create different system (pw) databases (if you use contexts it could get confusing at some point) and have different languages for each of them so the users can choose right from the start which one they want to use. With this you will have two databases on your demolauncher for example and they can choose from the beginning which one they want to use. The only issue with this workaround is that you have to maintain both databases.
If you want it to be on the same database you would probably need a customization that could take some time as it might involve minor changes to the data structure and a couple of source files to provide the second language to all the elements. In my experience this customization is moderately difficult as usually people forget about the need to have a good maintenance plan moving forward.

Download: French AND English versions?

Hello everyone,
I bought last week the English downloadable version of Photoshop CS4. What I need in fact is a copy including both French and English. At the moment, I can buy either the English or the French version. There doesn't seem to be a way to do that, and it seems to me a bit strange. I need this because I'm a member of French and English forums where I have to know command names in both languages.
What is still more bizarre is the fact that in this English version, Bridge includes in fact at least 15 languages!
Is there a way around this, short of buying another copy, which would really not do?

Thanks Buko, I shall call them. I am a bit surprised you see, as most (not all...) applications' UI on OS X will use the language of the OS as determined by the user in Preferencees->International.
In Photoshop, the choice of the language for the UI is fixed in Preferences->Interface->UI Text Options->UI language. Clearly Adobe expects that the user will have a choice. Right now the only choice is English.
As I said, for Bridge that is installed with the same download, apparently "English only", is not English only! You've got 23 different languages to choose from, from a slightly different path: Preferencees->Advanced->International->Language: . Right now I'm trying to use Bridge in Chinese...
I love to use all my applications in my own language, which is French. But I must know the command names in English, even if it's only to be a member of forums about Photoshop.

I need to display both Spanish and English lang. in Bex analyzer.
InfoObject is language dependent.
Ex: For material it should display description in Spanish and English at a time.
Am only able to display one at a time.

As Kodandapani mentioned it’s not possible to display both languages same
time as its mapping to same T table where LANGU is part of key.
I recommend you to create an attribute or maintain another table for other
language to display at a time.

Both Chinese and English in running header

Hi-
I have mixed Chinese and English in my book without any problems. However, I have one heading with both Chinese and English and the Chinese characters will not show in the running header, only crossed out squares.
Got any ideas? Lars

I've been looking at the screen captures you provided, and I'm almost ceertain I know what the problem is. I don't have the LiSong font, though, so I'm not 100% sure.
It looks to me like you are using a combination of the LiSong and Arno Pro, with your English text set in Arno Pro and the Chinese in LiSong. That's fine so far, it will probably also be OK if you are using LiSong for the English in the body text, too.
In your running headers you've switched to an italic font, and, I think, therein lies the problem. I'm certainly not versed in typesetting Chinese, but my understanding is that there are no italics, and it looks to me like the entire running header is set in Arno Pro italic. Arno Pro does not have any Chinese glyphs, so you get the x-boxes. If you select the variable for the chines text and change the font to the LiSong I think they will go away and your correct glyphs will return.
Also, it looks like you have the header repeating because you've got both the two character style variables and aparagraph style variable. You don't need the last one if you use the first two.
And finally, and I probably should have mentioned this earlier, the character styles applied to this text don't necessarily need to do anything at all tothe formatting to work for defineing variables, as long as they have unique names. This allows you to name different parts of a paragraph without affecting the text in any way, but you can then apply separate formatting to your individual variables. In this particualr case, if I'm correct that you are using ArnoPro for the English and LiSong for the Chinese in the body text, it's probably appropriate to create a "Chinese" character style that includes the LiSong font (but not a size or color so you can apply it anywhere in your text and it will match the surrounding type except for the face), and an "English" style that is only a name.

Mail crashes when trying to attach a filename with both Hebrew and English

Mail.app crashes when trying to attach a file whose filename has both Hebrew and English characters in it.
This even happens if the file is first zipped!
Any temporary solution/workaround until Apple fixes this bug?

for example:

If yes,
Right Click the 1st string object within the Text box and 'Text Formatting' specify the Hindi Font
Right Click the 2nd string object within the Text box and 'Text Formatting' specify the English Font.

The buttons contain both Arabic and English.
All keyboards with non-Latin scripts printed on them also have English printed on them. Otherwise you could not type email and webpage addresses and the computer would be of very limited use.

Applications losing content on both IPhone and IPad

Just got my new IPad-3g (Love it). However, the ITunes app syncing could be much better. I would see both available IPhone and newly purchased IPAD apps in the same pane and couldn't tell them apart.
Which may be my problem. I loaded some of the IPhone apps to the IPad and then found that both had reset to the original, new status...so all my contents on notebooks or other file apps disappeared from both IPad and sometime IPhone.
I'm not going to sync those IPhone apps that didn't get wiped next time, but anyone else have this problem? Ideas?

Not sure what you mean by you couldn't tell the apps apart. There is only one version for each app. Most iPhone apps can be installed and will work on the iPad. If an app developer has produced a universal version which includes being optimized for use on the iPad also, it will be available below iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad apps. under the Apps section in iTunes, but there is only one universal version of the app. Once an app goes universal, there is not an iPad version and another iPhone/iPod Touch version to have to choose from depending on which device the app is being transferred to.
3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app is not included with the app itself in iTunes. It is included with the app's "sandbox" on each device, which is included with the device's backup that is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process.
Installing an iPhone app on your iPad from your iTunes library on your computer does not include any of the data created and stored with the app on your iPhone. This is no different from downloading and installing the app direct on the iPad from the iTunes app store.
Installing an iPhone app on your iPad should have no effect on the data created and stored with the app on your iPhone.

Itunes will not function/display store content on both Ipad and Iphone after iOS7

After upgrading to iOS7 on both iphone5 & Ipad2 I have lost itunes functionality on both. I have already done fresh installs on the iphone5 three times now. This is ridiculous.

In my requirement in smart form, the standard text and values to be printed should appear both in english and chinese language.
When my login language is EN(English), I cannot able to see the chinese text , but only the english text.
If login in Chinese language, I can able to see the both the Chinese and English text in print preview, even then in printout the chinese text is missing.
Please let me know what will be the problem.
What printer i can use to get both chinese and english text.

In some device types (e.g HPLJ4, HPLJ5) you experience non-uniform character spacing in the PDF document after the PDF conversion of SAPscript or Smart Forms documents, using HELVE or TIMES fonts. You want to know the reason.

The problem is not due to an error in the PDF converter but due to the fact, that the printer font, underlying the device type (e.g. Univers or CG Times in PCL-5 device types), is not available for the PDF converter and is either not available in Adobe Reader. The PDF converter has to try to simulate the layout of the printer font by means of a font which is predefined in Adobe Reader. This is done by assigning the letter widths of the printer font to the font used in Adobe Reader.
The PDF file contains a table with letter widths, used by Adobe Reader in the output of text, for each used printer font (except PostScript fonts).
Example:

Adobe reader converts this width table, by modifying the space between each character, so that the specified letter width (= space between the current and the next letter) is kept.
This 'Simulation' of printer fonts results in the sometimes visible irregular spaces in PDF.
The PDF converter always uses the Helvetica Adobe PostScript font for the display of HELVE and the Times Roman Adobe PostScript font for the display of TIMES. However, for these Adobe PostScript fonts, Adobe Reader often uses a Windows TrueType font, which differs slightly from the original PostScript font.
Solution
Workaround: Use the POST2 PostScript device type or the PDF1 PDF device type for the PDF conversion of documents in the Latin-1 character set. They both use the Adobe PostScript fonts Helvetica or Times Roman for the HELVE/TIMES printer fonts.

Solution
When using SAPscript or SmartForms to print (or email or fax) a form from a business application, many factors influence the outcome of the actual text within the form. All these factors must be checked in order to ensure a correct printout:
1) The language version of the form used to produce the printout.
Example: If you want to print a French invoice, you need to have a FR version of your SAPscript or SmartForms invoice form RVINVOICE01. And the application program must specify the corresponding language key (FR) when calling the SAPscript or SmartForms API.
2) The font selections specified in the form (possibly also in a SAPscript style or SmartStyle used in a form).
Example: In a SAPscript form or a SmartStyle you need to specify HELVE if you want to print German text in Helvetica (or similar) font. If you want to print Japanese text, HELVE is not a valid choice but you need to specify a Japanese font like JPMINCHO in your Japanese form.
3) The output character set of the device type
Every printer in transaction SPAD has a "device type" assigned. Device types used by the spooler for printing support only one single specific output character set. All text from the form has to be converted (using SAP's built-in character conversion mechanism) to this output character set.
A character set can typically support either a single language (e.g. Shift-JIS which supports only Japanese) or a set of languages (e.g. ISO 8859-1, which supports Western-European languages). It is possible that a given language (such as German) can be supported by several output character sets, e.g. you may use either ISO 8895-1 (Latin-1) or ISO 8859-2 (Latin-2) to represent German text. This is so because both character sets contain the special characters used in German.
Example: HPLJ4000 is a HP LaserJet device type supporting the ISO 8859-1 (Latin-1) character set. ISO 8859-1 can be used to represent e.g. Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish, Swedish but NOT Russian or Japanese.
As a consequence, it is ok to use HPLJ4000 to print English, German French etc. but not for Japanese or Russian.
4) The set of available printer fonts for a given device type
When formatting a document, SAPscript and SmartForms perform an automatic mapping of the font definitions in the form (e.g. "HELVE 14 point bold") and the available printer fonts of the device type. A replacement printer font is chosen, should the specified font selection not be available in the device type. Now this replacement can be problematic if a language-specific font, such as Chinese CNSONG, is specified in a form and it gets replaced by a font which does not support this language, e.g. COURIER.
To solve this problem, font families in SE73 have language attribute assigned, e.g. some fonts are characterized as being suitable only for certain languages. And when a replacement has to be chosen because the original font from the form is not available in the device type, a replacement font is chosen which has the same language attributes.
If no fonts for the language in question exist in the device type, the resulting font will not be able to print the special characters and you will see "wrong" output characters in the printout.
Note on SAPscript/SmartForms Print Preview:
The OTF Print Preview available in Windows GUI (e.g. from transaction SP01) will sometimes not show the "wrong" characters which appear on the final printout. Here is the reason: since the Print Preview runs in Windows environment, it will use Windows fonts to represent the actual printer fonts. A Windows font typically has more available characters (i.e. covers more character sets) than are actually available in a printer's resident font.
A typical example where the Print Preview will differ from the printout is here: if you have a Chinese PCL5 printer such as CNHPLJ4 and use the Western Latin font COURIER in your document, the print preview will show you Chinese characters if you (by accident) tried to format Chinese characters in COURIER font. This is because Windows will automatically choose a font that can output Chinese characters (which is actually not Courier). But when you print the job on an actual PCL5 printer with resident Western and Chinese fonts, the Courier font will not print any Chinese characters but Western special characters instead, because the printer's resident Courier font does not include Chinese characters.
Rule of thumb: all Asian device types (e.g. CNHPLJ4, JPHPLJ4, JPPOST, KPHPLJ4) support not only Asian fonts but also COURIER, HELVE and TIMES fonts. But these Latin fonts can only be used to print English text, not Chinese/Japanese/Korean characters.

Verify your output by examining the OTF data
When analysing printing problems of this type, be sure to check the OTF data which gets produced by SAPscript or SmartForms. OTF or "Output Text Format" is the intermediate page-description format generated from SAPscript or SmartForms. OTF will contain the final printer font names and character set/language identifiers which help to solve the problem. OTF will even name the form and the language of the form used to create the output.
The easiest way to do this is to create a spool request from your application, run transaction SP01, use menu
Goto->Display Requests->Settings
and choose
Display Mode: Raw
Now display your spool request. If this is a SAPscript or SmartForms spool request, you will see OTF data. Each line represents one OTF command, every command starts with a 2-character cmd identifier and possibly some cmd parameters follow.

The CP (CodePage) cmd shows the SAP system codepage used to code the text and the active language. In our case it is codepage 1100 and language E = EN = English.

Finally, the FC-cmd (Font Call) lists a printer font selected within SmartForms. Please note that every SmartForm has a designated default SmartStyle under "Form Attributes->Output Options". In addition, every text node can have a SmartStyle attached (which will override the definitions from the default style for the text). In our case the resulting printer font that was selected is HELVE 12.0 pt bold-off, italic-off.

Chinese Font and English Font in one paragraph

I am working on a book translated from English into Traditional Chinese, using Indesign CS4 under WinXP sp3. In many cases I need to put English words among Chinese Characters. I set up Character Styles to apply the English Fonts I want, then doing word by word manually. Besides of the slow speed, it's easy to make mistakes doing by hand. I desperatly want to find a way to set up PARAGRAPH STYLES that I can specify both Chinese and English Fonts in a same paragraph stye. Will be very apprecited if someone please teach me how to get it.

Yes it can be done in CS4. I am doing a billingual book in Chinese and English. What you can do is select the paragraph,
1. Open "Paragraph styles", double click - "Basic Paragraph", Select "Basic Character Formats", Change the Font to a Chinese Character (e.g. SimSun and the size is 12)
2. Don't close the box, then select "GREP Style", select "New GREP Style", click "Apply Styel" and Select "New Character Style"
3. a New Character Style Box comes up, then select "Basic Character Formats" and select the English Character (e.g. Arial and the size is 14), then OK.
4. Will back to Paragraph styles box, then click "To Text" and select "Wildcards" and select "Any Letters", then click OK. It is done!!
I tried many ways before, and how I am getting used to it. Remember, if you have many different styles need to be set, (for example: Title (with both languages), contents (with both languages), you can set different Character's Name for different purposes when the "New Character Style" box comes up.
