Translation library for Oracle 8.1.6 on IBM oS/390

Has anyoune an idea about the translation library for accessing through ODBC an Oracle 8.1.6 installed on IBM OS/390?
The same driver works fine on Oracle 8.1.7 on Sun Solaris, but when I access the OS/390 Oracle I find "strange" character, certainly due to the EBCDIC-ASCII translation.
What have I to give as "translation library" and "translation option" in the driver configuration?
TIA

Hi Gitesh,
I face exactly the same problems as you face....
no whatsoever difference...and i am completely stuck as i dont
know what to do...
i have heard from some people (on the oracle discussion groups)
that they have successfully installed oracle8.1.6
how i dont know... but very much eager if any of you all could
help me out.
if you do find a way out and solve the problem ...do plz. let me
know....

Could anyone point me at the latest version of ILO.
Version 2.5 is purported in various texts and books but I have been unable to find the source code to test myself.
Grateful if anyone could point me at or provide the ILO 2.5 code .
    Many Thanks

    Morning Hoek,
Thankyou for your reply. I was looking to see if there was any updates as various discussions have alluded to another version:
As per the discussions on the link you posted
In chapter 13 - Profiling for Performance - of your book 'Expert PL/SQL Practices' your examples reference version 2.5 of ILO.  Is ILO version 2.5 available? A working example of ILO was one of the reasons I purchased the book (it was the first chapter I read!).

Someone else contacted me about locating ILO 2.5 code recently. I have the original code on a machine at home, and will post it somewhere this weekend, most likely at Apress.com. I'll need to check with Ron at Method-R about the latest and greatest version of ILO. He had some changes planned, and there are no guarantees that my code is compatible with any new code he's developed.

  • Data Access Library for Oracle like Microsoft Ent Library

    Hi there
Is there a plan to create a data access library over the odp.net providers
    like the Microsoft Enterprise Library.
For people who have been using Microsoft Enterprise Library for sometime.
The coding examples pasted here on the Oracle website looks newbie and lengthy.
Accessing the provider via a library would
    - reduces the amount of code that developers must write
    - reduces the need to write boilerplate code to perform standard tasks
    - reduces difficulties in changing the database type
As the Microsoft Enterprise Library Team is not keen in implementing odp.net into
    the data access code.
Is there anything you guys can do.
It would lot better to have the same library to access Sql Server and Oracle database that way
    Thanks
    Martin A

You will have to roll your own for ODP.NET
Looking through the source for the Microsoft Enterprlise Library, you use the System.Data.OracleClient as an example.
It can be found here: [EntLibSrc Location]\App Blocks\Src\Data\Oracle\
You can also look at the Enterprise Library Contrib (http://www.codeplex.com/entlibcontrib) which provides community contributions to MEL - there is an open issue for ODP.NET, found here:

  • Instrumentation Library for Oracle (ILO)

    Hi All,
Can anybody point me to version 2.5 of ILO? Sourceforge.net/projects/ilo is not up to date.
I have posted a message there but as yet no reply.
Most Oracle experts would advocate using a library such as ILO but yet there is surprisingly little information on the web about it.
    Ian.

  • SUNWsprox package with solaris 10 for Oracle 10g Installation....

    Hi
I am in problem with a Solaris 10 package "SUNWsprox - Sun workshop Bundled 64-bit make library" for Oracle 10g Installation. I checked the CDs (In the /.../products) but did't found this packege. Can any one tell me please can I go without this package or where I found this package...Please Its very URGENT for me....
    Thanks
    Mohammed Tanvir

    Hi...
I had the same issue, but found out that the SUNWsprox was replaced by SUNWsprot. The OUI 10.1 Release 2 will 'pass' as the doco in the Oracle quick install guide is wrong (as well as 10g Application Server).
The only way to lay a 10g Release database on Solaris 10 is to lay the software doen only, then cd in the .../bin directory, step your Rdbms ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, LD_LIBRARY_PATH and of course the DISPLAY (is X-windowing into the server), and run dbca manually. Oracle 10g is a bit buggy.

  • 11g 64-bit ODBC library for Linux?

I don't see an x86_64 Linux ODBC library for Oracle (at least in the InstantClient download area).
Is such a beast available? If so, from where? If not, when?
    Thanks!

I am not sure whether oracle has one available, you may want to try easysoft for one - just a suggestion as I happened to notice they may have one.

  • Prerequisites for Oracle 9i installation AIX 5L V5.3

    Hi,
Can anybody give a clear idea on the prerequisites for Oracle 9i release 2 installation IBM AIX 5L V5.3
    Thanks
    Jibu

Where did you get that information from?
If you check the great cert matrix, you'll find that Oracle's support for 5L is rather wide. The general note/page says e.g.
"Oracle products are certified for AIX5L on all servers that IBM supports with AIX5L. ...
    AIX5L certifications include AIX5L versions 5.2 and 5.3."
And 9.2 is certified on "5L" (but note that current support ends July this year)

  • Admin_client jar - add "remove-inherited" for oracle.jdbc shared library

    Guys,
I am using admin_client.jar utility which comes oracle 10.1.3 to deploy our web-application on the oc4j server, everythings is working fine, except for this small issue, where i want to avoid having the shared library "oracle.jdbc" inherited by web-module (which is by default inherited by all apps apparently), since i want to use the oracle-jdbc driver bundled with the war. Now i do that the solution is to introduce a "remove-inherited" tag (for the oracle.jdbc library) under the "inherited-shared-libraries" element in the orion-application.xml file (generated on deployment by oc4j), but what i want to know is how to automate this process of adding this entry, since we dont want to have any manual intervention on deployment.
Though admin_client.jar so far has provided all the functionality required for deployment but it apprarently doesnt any way where we can specify the shared-libraries not to be inherited by the deployed war..
    Any comments/suggestions ?
    Thanks and Regards,

    Alright that makes sense.
Yes, spot on. The suggestion I made was contingent on having an EAR file -- even though we accept a WAR file from you, we ultimately produce an EAR file from it during the deployment phase. If you don't want to produce an EAR file then its not viable for you.
Another possible solution is one that you are sort of suggesting here -- each application can be specified as a child of a parent application -- from which it will inherit various libraries and configuration settings.
What you could do is to deploy a single, dedicated application on which you configure the shared-library import to the JDBC driver you want -- and then you simply choose that application as the parent, whereupon the child application will pick up the shared-library setting.
There current, visible parent of all deployed applications is the "default" application. What you could do is to tweak the configuration of the default applicaiton so it uses a different JDBC library to the one it inherits from its actual parent (the system application). The configuration for the default application is contained within the j2ee/home/config/application.xml file -- which if you look at it, is actually an "orion-application.xml" file. So if you make the change there, it will apply to all the applications that are deployed to the container.
Just found it in the doc:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/web.1013/b28952/classload.htm#CIHFFBCA
Even easier, what you evaluate is a simpler approach where you install and publish the Oracle JDBC driver you wish to use, with the name "oracle.jdbc" and set it with a higher version (which I assume you are doing) than the deafault one -- whereby from how the config in the application.xml is set and where the oracle.jdbc driver is imported, it should pick up the higher version -- so that way you don't even need to change the config file -- simply publish the later versioned library using the name oracle.jdbc and it should be picked up.
Currently the version in 10.1.3.3 is:
    <shared-library name="oracle.jdbc" parent="api" version="10.1.0_2">
So if you published the jdbc driver you want to use with the name oracle.jdbc and a higher version, then the import of oracle.jdbc will default to the latest version, which should pick up your library.
Thus all you need to do is a one-off publishing operation of a new shared-library (oracle.jdbc: 10.1.2.3 for example) and it then should be picked up implicitly by all deployed applications.
Worth testing my theory though ... ;-)

  • Are Oracle going to build a Webutil library for ADF ?

    Hi,
We have a customer who has a forms app that uses Webutil to interact with many things such as the registry, DLL's etc.
One obstacle we have in trying to sell a rewrite in ADF to them is the lack of Webutil-type functionality in ADF. If Oracle developed a Webutil library for ADF we would be able to sell the product much easier.
Do any of you Oracle guys know if it is on the cards ?
    cheers

    Hi,
Would you explain what "Forms is already on the page" mean? Thanks.
This means that if you want to integrate Forms with ADF and Forms is embedded as an Applet on an ADF page
BTW: There should be a mechanism that would allow ADF to have trusted access to client machines.
ADF has nothing to do with this. In general HTML based content cannot access the client desktop except for file uploads for security reasons. If browser vendors could agree on a standard that allows signed JavaScript to perform trusted client access then this could be solved. However, signed JavaScript is only supported by Netscape browsers and is not available anywhere else. In Java Applets, like Forms uses it, the Applet sources are signed - as there is a standard for this - allowing Java to access the client.
Webutil was a significant breakthrough for Forms.
Yes. It is a corner stone that bridged the functionality gap between client server and web based forms
I'm currently slogging through various ADF tutorials. the documentation is ALL OVER THE PLACE. I'm struggling with trying to find a way gain access to the current application instance that would give me access to active view objects. The ADF documentation is PAINFULLY opaque on this issue for this newbie.
Forms had 2 developer guides to the time we printed manuals (a basic introduction and an advanced manual). Adding the Graphics guide and the Reports guise, all in all the documentation was provided in 4 books. ADF and the related technologies are way more complex for a beginner, but once understood also more powerful than Forms. The main documentation - surprise surpise - is provided in 4 books. The ADF developer guide, the Web developer guide, the desktop integration guide and the mobile development guide. As a beginner, the first two guides is what you need - start with the ADF developer guide.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/dev.htm
Related documentation, which is runtime specific, is then provided in the FMW documentation

  • Can anyone recommend a good UPK library structure for Oracle financials 11.5.10.2 (using UPK 11.1)?

Hi, Can anyone recommend a good UPK library structure for Oracle financials 11.5.10.2 (using UPK 11.1) please?

If you are using the application server that comes with Oracle Applications - you probably need to use the JDeveloper version that comes with that one too. (The OAF forum will have more info on this).
If you are using JDeveloper 10.1.3 then you can use a stand alone OC4J 10.1.3 to deploy your applications - and save yourself the hassle of messing up with your apps server.

could not locate the setup or translator libraryThe symptom described is typical of an incorrect system env PATH setting (used by the data source admin tool), compared to that of the Oracle Home (specifically, path $OH/bin). The odbc driver config routine will search directories listed in PATH variable for necessary libraries (Client dll's). If some library fails to load (from e.g. oraoci*.dll or oraclient10.dll) it will probably error out, as in your case.
Are you creating the odbc dsn on the databse server host or on some other machine? I.e. are you using the db host as a client or not?

  • Could not load the setup or translator library

    Hi dears
I have worked with TimesTen recently and I'm familiar with it. Now I wanna install it on a different PC and i get this error while installing "could not load the setup or translator library"!!!!???
The OS of the PC is windows XP SP3. I also tried different SDks but nothing.
Please is there someone help me?????
    thanks
    Shahrokh

    Hi Sigalaev
Yes i tried this page even before you told me but nothing because the software they introduce there is not compatible with windows XP SP3.
Anyway i found my problem. I compared "system32" folder between my system, which i installed TimesTen before correctly, and the system i wanna install it on. There were some dll files that didn't exist in the new system. By a little search I suspect to two dll files(msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll). After copying these two files the timesten was installed without any problem. However, the main problem wasn't for installing the timesten rather I encountered when TimesTen want to create the sample databases. I wonder why Oracle mentioned nothing about these files in the scripts.
