Translucent Terminal gone in Leopard...

As the subject line says, "Translucency" for the Terminal was part of the 10.4 Tiger release but apparently wasn't a big enough deal to include in 10.5 Leopard. I loved my translucent Terminal! (I would like to see the ability to turn on and off, and select the amount of 'see through-ness' of all windows in Leopard!)
Any one else use this function in Tiger?

It's still there.
Go to the Preferences... (splat-,) in Terminal.app
In the Settings tab, there's a Window subtab. Click on the inkwell in the Background/Color segment, and Opacity is at the bottom of the color chooser.

  • Ichat bluetooth button gone in leopard

Hi, Just went from 10.4.11 to 10.5.3. I see the bluetooth button in ichat windows is gone now. What was simple and elegant in Tiger is now quite difficult in Leopard. Changing to bluetooth headset simply meant pressing the bluetooth button in the chat window. It seems that I can't change from internal to bluetooth during a chat anymore. Broken? Makes me want to go back to Leopard.

Go to ichats prefs/video and click on "set up bluetooth headset.." and set up you headset again.

  • Terminal problem in leopard

Hey, i copied his over from the general forum
i did a fresh install on my macbook, and i reinstalled all my dev environment. I had some trouble with this and i may have messed something up in the process, but basically i have no prompt and it says login in the titlebar. thisafter i installed mysql, set up apache the way i need with virtual hosts, added stuff to my hosts file, and installed the fixed leopard mysql prefpane (plus someother stuff like setting up root password).
The only .bash file i have in my home directory is .bash_history

I'm ran into the same problem. When I ran 'sudo mysqld_safe5 &', it would kill my Terminal in exactly the way you describe. Turns out the 'sudo' was still hanging around, I was able to kill the 'sudo' processes via Activity Monitor (maybe sure you show 'All Processes'), after that I had my terminal back. Launching Mysql at boot via launchd worked for me: http://hivelogic.com/articles/installing-mysql-on-mac-os-x/, skip to "Auto-Starting Mysql" if you already have Mysql installed.
    Good luck!

  • I PHOTO GONE AFTER LEOPARD INSTILLATION

Just got leopard update, install and iphoto is no where to be found. I am not the most computer savvy guy on the planet. Any ideas?

    *"what have I done wrong"*
You erased the hard drive, if you did an erase and install. So naturally, iPhoto or anything else on the drive that was there before you erased the drive is now gone.
*"i put the two other install discs in there as well"*
Okay...and did you reinstall iPhoto from those discs.

  • Thumbnails intact, files gone after Leopard install

After installing Leopard I have found that random photos from different events in iPhoto 7.1.1 have completely disappeared. OK, not completely -- the thumbnail images remain but the image file is completely gone. Vanished, it would appear, from my hard drive. A spotlight search reveals nothing. I am finding more and more missing as I go about my business. I click on an image to edit or use in iWeb and I get a gray exclamation point.
I don't think that I have synched my iPod video since upgrading to Leopard so perhaps there is hope of recovery? Anyone know what is going on?

    kqland
The ! or ? turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
The most common cause of this is User Activity in the iPhoto Library Folder in the Finder.
Have you altered, moved or renamed anything in the iPhoto Library Folder?
If you haven't, then try rebuilding the database. Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    Regards

  • Why is iWeb gone after Leopard install.

Install Leopard as "Archive & Install." Now the iWeb application is gone. How do I get it back?

Go to "previous system" folder at the root level of your HDD. It should be in that "Applications" folder. Drag it into your new Applications folder. If it is not there use the discs that shipped with your Mac or iLife discs, if you purchased a newer version.

  • Floating Date and Time icon is gone in Leopard

This may seem like a trivial matter, but under Tiger I was able to have the date and time "Calendar and Clock" Icon on the desktop. It was handy to look at quickly for reference. Under Leopard, I can't seem to get it back. I can have date and time in the menubar, but not the floating icon on the desktop. Did they drop this idea in Leopard?

I saw this hint, but it seems a bit technical to be generally useful.

A better hint may to enable Dashboard Development Mode

and find a widget to your liking that displays date and time.

  • Where have the CS2 filters gone after leopard upgrade?

I have CS2 on a Powerbook G4 1.5Ghz operating on Leopard 10.5.7. The Powerbook was previously my brothers so I inherited all the software on it. CS2 was reinstalled after a recent upgrade from Tiger to Leopard.
Since then, I have had only 5 filter options in Photoshop - Blur, Noise, Pixelate, Sharp and Stylize.
I have searched everywhere for the files on the system, in case they were accidently moved, despite the fact I never mess around with the system folders.
I have been able to add plugins by placing them in MacintoshHD> Adobe> Plugins> CS2> File Formats. The plugin then appears in Photoshop.
Also, I noticed that when I go to Applications> Adobe creative suite> Adobe Photoshop CS2, there is no "plugins" file (like there is for Illustrator outline the filter options).
Im really missing the basic filters I used to have especially the halftone and its options.
I have searched this forum and notice someone had the same problem, but the suggested solutions have not helped me. I neither have a backup copy of CS2 or the original disk. The CS2 software is an educational package (from UCLA).
Would anyone have any advice on how I can get the basic filters back?
    Many thanks!

Well excuse me sir for having a hand-me-down-mac.
    Call the FBI!
You should not be so quick with your accusations.
FYI, my family had 2macs. One with CS, the other with CS2. Both macs were upgraded to Leopard, then the computers were swapped around as I preferenced Photoshop CS2. Adobe have never mentioned anything about "pirated software" - in fact were most helpful when I rang them and they re-activated  CS2 - consider your statement as "idiotic".
I should report you for abuse.

  • Where has search view gone in Leopard

    Hi
Below is a feedback that I have sent to Apple regarding my user experience with Leopard and how things have changed, with the disappointing loss of features and functionality that was present in Tiger. I place this oversight, on Apple's part, on the same level of the disappearance of the hierarchical menus on folder in the Dock. For me it is worse as I never actually used folders in the Dock this way. I do understand the frustrations of those that do though.
    What do you think?
    Read on.
I am repeating this feedback because I find it unbelievable what has happened to searches with Spotlight Finder searches and Smart Folders in the transition to Leopard.
Spotlight searches have improved with added functionality but when it was introduced in Tiger the most exciting and visually usable feature of it was the separation of files into different file type categories in the Finder. I believe this was referred to as the search view and it used blue lines as separators. There was even a search view icon in the tool bar, where the column view usually is, to activate it and this was the default view when using the Finder to search and with smart folders.
This was very useful when working on a project. If I had a history of art project with images for a Picasso, Slavador Dali and Matisse these would be grouped together in a smart folder search and I could jump directly to a slideshow to view them. Now al I get is a jumble of files, images and text documents all together. Yes you can group them by kind but there are a lot more steps involved as there dose not seem to be a default view that sticks in this area: It is a moveable feast.
In any event the older search view was far superior, far more user friendly, and better to look at. The loss of this functionality is a big disappointment in Leopard and I am really surprised that this is not noticed by Apple
The other aspect of Spotlight/Finder/Smart Folder searches which is regressive are the location options at the top of the search windows, below the tool bar. The Options are This Mac or the current folder from which the search is initiated. If you decide that you should have applied the search on the Home folder you get backed out of the search when you you click the Home icon in the Finder sidebar. You then need to type the search word again in the search field and then change the location from This Mac to your user name.
In Tiger there were up to five location options that you could jump to within the search: Server, Computer, Home, the folder location from which you started the search and Others. This allowed searches to take place with far less steps.
The usefulness of the criteria Contents and File Name I would place as a far lower priority.
I hope that Apple can take into account that these criticisms highlight serious flaws in the design and ease of use of Leopard.

I have to say that I completely agree. I have also sent a form in to Apple about this a couple of weeks ago. It is also worth noting that if you wish to search for system files, you have to do so by pressing Opt-Cmd-Space, Pressing the + button on the filters bar, clicking the left drop-down menu, selecting "Other..." and checking "System Files." From that point forward, if you wish to search for system files, you hit Cmd-Opt-Space, click the + sign, select the left drop-down menu, selecting "System Files," selecting the right drop-down menu, choosing "include," and entering your search query, and then sorting through the mess of files that appears for what you want. Yuck!
I saved the System Files + include search query by clicking the Save button in the filters bar (why isn't it in the File menu as well so that there is consistency?) and then created a Quicksilver trigger so that Cmd-Opt-Space opens up the System Files.savedsearch, and then I can search system files just by entering the search query, selecting the "System Files.savedSearch" button after Finder decides that I really wanted to search "This Mac," and then sorting through the mess of files for what I want. It's still really tedious, but it's less so than the default option.
How did I search for system files in Tiger? Easy: I invoked Spotlight with Cmd-Space, entered the search query, and if I needed the extra functionality, selected "Show All," where I was presented with a nice, clean, organized interface that separated files by type. In this sense, Apple has really taken us quite a few steps backwards in usability, and it is highly disappointing and really quite shocking. It's like we were eating cake before, and now we have to eat dry biscuits. I sincerely hope Apple addresses this very soon, and that enough people contact Apple about this so that they get on in sooner.

  • Video acceleration on PCI gone with Leopard

    Hi,
Since my bugreport is abandonned by Apple (last answer the 14th nov.), I'm trying to get some help on the forums.
    Here are the facts.
    03-Nov-2007 04:10 PM Édouard Puginier:
    Hi,
I'm the owner of a PowerMac Dual G5 / 2GHz / 4Go ram, with a Radeon X800XT 256 Mo video card (on two screens) and a Radeon 9200 128 Mo (on one screen).
Under Tiger, to activate acceleration under my PCI card, I used to activate after each 10.4.X update, 'IOPCIDevice' in (because the display was so slow if not):
    /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/C oreGraphics.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Configuration.plist
Then, all the display was smooth.
Now under Leopard, the problem is that IOPCIDevice is already activated… but display is definitely not smooth…
    Thank you for your support.
    Best regards.
    Tazintosh.

If its enabled and currently isnt working, then try disabling it and see if that helps since it could be a simple boolian error. Otherwise I'd expect it's a matter of drivers, which arent the best in Leopard and are causing several folks to have some stability problems (Airport, and USB Devices causing kernel panics). If the graphics drivers arent quite yet completed then its possible they've not fully implemented PCI video acceleration support.

  • Printers gone after Leopard install - it won't let me add them back

Install went fine, all my apps seem to work fine. Tried to print, both my windows networked printers and my Adobe Distiller printer are gone. Fine, tried to add my windows networked printers. It keeps giving me "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. client-error-not-authorized"
Okay, I verified the printers on the windows server are open to guest.
So I tried adding a printer using a verified username and password - same error.
I can see and print to both shared printers from my other three mac's that are still using Tiger.
I guess I'll try to reinstall Adobe and see if my Distiller printer returns. Anyone else have a problem with windows shared printers disappearing?

Oops, sorry, i jumped the gun.

I was able to get back my Adobe PDF. here's how I did it:
    • Launch Acrobat (in my case it is version 8)
    • Select "Repair Acrobat Installation" under the Help menu
    • Deselect everything except for the "Adobe PDF Printer"
    • Click continue and you're done!

  • ILife gone after Leopard clean install

Hi, I just made a clean install of mac os x leopard on an old macbook pro (2004). I just realize that it comes without iLife. How can I get iLife back? I don't have the original grey install dvd's anymore. Thanks.

Your pre-bundled software is reinstalled using the Optional Install package in the same-named folder on your original installer disc. Since you don't have them you have to purchase replacements:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.

  • Rounded Corners are gone Since Leopard

I just installed OS 10.4 on an old 3G ipod to put a copy of iDefrag (to boot from), and when I booted into 10.4, I noticed that the default OS screen has rounded corners!
Apple done away with these rounded corners in 10.5 Leopard! Why?
Has anyone else noticed this? I have never seen a post anywhere about the subject.
I want my rounded corners back! It felt very "Mac!"
    -Mark

There is a small utility called Displaperture that will give you back the rounded corners.

  • Hard drive is gone after Leopard install

Guess that's what I get for being an early adopter......Install looked like it was going fine. I did the Archive and Install option and preserved user information. When the system finally came up, it had to user information retained and the OS was jerky and hanging up. Finally it hung with a spinning beach ball for 30 minutes so I hit the power button.
After that it all went haywire.....no boot, no drive, etc. Just got a grey screen with the folder and a question mark. It finally booted off the DVD and I was able to run disk utilities. Cannot format, mount or verify the hard drive. This is frusterating

    Matt
    I did read the post.
    It's like this.
When a HD directory is corrupt there is a good chance that it will have be trashed.
However, in my experience I have found that sometimes different versions of utilities, and different utilities can see different things.
There is just a chance that the version of disk utility that created the directory might be able to see the HD. Worth a try I think.
    Cheers
