Transmit discards issue

Hi
Our monitoring tool (solar wind) is showing Transmit discards on the interface between border router ( ASR1004) and core switch (WS-C6509-E).
But i don't see the error when i check the router or switch.

  • AP1242 Excessive Transmit Discards and performance complaints

I have an AP1242 near a couple of conference rooms.  I get complaints when we have a large contingent in there
and some try to download documents.  The bandwidth consumption is meage - less than 2Mbps.  But there
could be say 50 people in those training rooms.  I see no errors at the FE interface on the AP but I do see
a good number of Transmit Discards.  A few questions from this..
Are 50 users connected to an AP1242 simply more than should be expected of the device?  802.11g is the radio.
Are transmit discards indicative of some kind of configuration problem?  The users in these cases are
generally very close to the access point - within a few feet even.
If it is indicative of a configuration problem would that be an issue of the configuration of the laptop wifi
cards or a problem at the AP?
    Thank you for any insight.
    Michael

I have an AP1242 near a couple of conference rooms.
You have a SINGLE unit serving two conference rooms.  How big are the conference rooms and what signals do the AP detect the clients?  What kind of antennas you using?  What radios are enabled?  What data rates are enabled?
I get complaints when we have a large contingent in there and some try to download documents. Are 50 users connected to an AP1242 simply more than should be expected of the device?  802.11g is the radio.
50 users???  That's too much clients for a single AP.  You need to understand that wireless behaves like a hub:  One talks, everyone else stops to wait for their turn.  And this is on a 100 Mbps ethernet.
Are transmit discards indicative of some kind of configuration problem?  The users in these cases are generally very close to the access point - within a few feet even.
Discards mostly mean signal issues.  Possibly interferrence.  Bluetooth, microwave ovens, old DECT phones, wireless from nearby blasting at the same channels can potentially cause slow responses and discards.
I've got some solutions for you:
    1.  Add one or two APs;
    2.  Disable 802.11 b/g data rates from 12 Mbps and below.  Make 18 Mbps mandatory and above 18 Mbps as Supported.
    3.  Use 802.11 a (less channel interferrence).
    4.  DO NOT be tempted to use high-gain antenna.  You're inviting more trouble than solution.

  • Transmit Discards on Tunnel Interface Cisco 2851

Hi, wondered if anyone could shed any light on this?
We have a two 2851 routers at two seperate branches that connect via a vpn tunnel back to the head office. When lookking at the tunnel interface it shows a lot of transmit discards which are there constantly and increase as traffic levels go up.
I have read that this is due to congestion however we are'nt using that much bandwidth at all.
one site has 100mb private circuit and the other has 10mb both of which are never more than 30% utilised
    any thoughts?
    thanks

  • High Transmit discards on 1131AG Access points.

I am running a number of AP1131AG access points that are showing transmit discards in the millions each day on the dot11G radio.
all of these AP's are configured to use WPA/PSK and TKIP. All are running IOS 12.3(8)JEA.
I'm puzzled by this as I also have a number of older 1231G access points that do not have the same problem.
Can anyone tell me what might be causing such a high number of discarded packets my 1131's

Use the command on the AP "sh dot11 associations" will give you clients which have successfully associated.  If you add the client MAC address at the end of the command you'll get a detailed information.  Look under "Signal Strength" and "Signal to Noise".  Under Signal Strength you want a value of -75 dBm or lower (lower values the better).  -76 dBm and up is bad.  Under Signal to Noise, you want a value of 25 dBm or higher (higher values the better).
For measuring signal strength I use Airmagnet but you can use Netstumbler or Cisco Wireless Site Survey.

  • Fetch / Cyber Duck / Transmit FTP issue with Lion

Since upgrading to Lion I've been having an odd issue. When I attempt to connect to a certain client's FTP server I cannot see folders that reside on that machine. The first time I connected with each of those apps I could see and interact normally with their folder structure. In subsequent connections this is not the case. I'm able to connect to the server without issue.
Side note: I'm able to connect with iDisk and another FTP server I have and this issue works flawlessly.
Anyone have thoughts / ideas for how to remedy?
    Thanks

I have exactly the same problem with Cyberduck. First the connection works then a couple of weeks later it quits working without touching the connection protocols. I have the right User ID and password but it won't connect with File Zilla either.
A couple of other ftp connections weren't working either. They had things like the user ID and the IP address changed but I don't know how this could happen as I certainly didn't do it. These ones are now working again.

  • Monitoring Transmit and Receive Error

We have an monitoring system to monitor all the access points transmit and receive errors.
There are four column name "Receive Error", "Receive Discard", "Transmit Error" and "Transmit Discards".
I have notice that there are a lot of transmit discards packets than the rest of the columns for one of the AP.
Is it normal for the packets of the AP to have transmit discards high?

I notice that this AP the Dot11 driver runtime (1331728) is very high than normal Access point (78157)
The rest of the process runtime looks equal.
Is this indicate that the Dot11 driver is going to be faulty?

  • Yosemite random reboots on macbook mid 2012

Well I've read thoroughly all the posts related to this kind of issue and it seems it affects a wide range of devices. Either mac minis or 2011 macbooks and so on.
I would like to explain my experience and ask for any advice available. I am experienced with computers and OS's, even though I would not call myself an expert, but as an engineer I possess a certain amount of knowledge. So there it goes.
    TL;DR at the bottom
Macbook pro mid 2012 13". Default 4gb memory installed, I added a Samsung EVO 830 SSD in 2012 when I bought it, never had any problems with it.
After a couple of weeks after upgrading to yosemite (november '14) I started noticing the macbook resting on login screen after a reboot. No crash report, no message visible of any reason. As I was installing some special software to do some work related to a lab I was working at the time, I thought it was software related. MS Word and Excel often crashed and I had a couple of problems with other programs. Then it started doing it while I was working, so I decided to check things out. The system freezed for some seconds - 1-2 minutes and proceeded to reboot. Sometimes a hard reset had to be performed.
I decided to perform different installations with different options in order to identify the problem:
Reinstall Yosemite from recovery mode: same result, random reboot, no specific app in use, either Xcode, Safari, or just resting idle with just finder.
Format disk and install yosemite applying time machine backup: same result, random reboot, no specific app, and so on.
Format disk and clean install, manually installing the same main software installed previously: same result, random freezes and reboots.
Format disk and clean install, manually installing essential apps (mac app store only): same result, exactly the same result.
Always with the latest OS version available, and with TRIM enabled and disabled, to discard issues with it. PRAM and SMC resets all along.
During all the testing, the console has not shown any crash report or kernel panic related to the event. After every reboot, console would not show anything special before the boot_time line.
After looking for solutions on different forums, I noticed a pattern on some cases that implied a wake on lan or a handoff, or wifi issue. I tested on different networks, disabled and enabled all options commented, with no effect.
    Entering
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CSeq 'n Cause: -' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}'
on terminal 90% of the time returned errors -128, and some -112 or -2, but they would not be logged to every freeze, just some of them. By the time the
As they may indicate a hardware error, I decided to proceed with the warranty.I bought the Applecare extension when I bought the computer (expiring this summer) so I talked to Applecare about the issue. As there is not an official Apple Store in my town they pointed me to an ASP in my city. They noted all the issues I commented above, gave me a case number to deliver to the ASP so they would have all the information.
I brought the computer to the ASP, gave them the case number (which they totally ignored, the employee seemed oblivious to what a "case number" was) and expected them to find the error. As I noticed the freeze could be sometimes forced via waking up the laptop, I made them a demo. I had ran already the apple hardware test and any hardware tests I was aware of. Etrecheck came out without issues or anything worth mentioning, so I thought they might have specific apple tools to identify hardware error.
They told me they could not find any error on the computer, but that they found errors in the SSD, swapped it with one of theirs to test and no issues found. Good, I thought, at least they found the issue even though all tests run on the SSD by me did not show any trace of it. They charged me 25€ for the service as the SSD was not part of the original computer. As I had been experiencing issues for some time I did not care. I asked them for some kind of report to check the error to provide to the SSD manufacturer, Samsung, as they offer 3-year warranty on SSD's and it had not yet expired. The report said "errors in disk", plain and simple, I asked to talk to the technician for extra info, but he could not remember if it was "corrupted sectors" or something else.
Contacted Samsung, sent my SSD in, and in 4 days I had a new (refurb maybe) SSD same model same size at my door. During those 4 days I reinstalled my old  original HDD. As it had a few miles on it (using it as external disk) it was really slow and sometimes it would freeze but the whole system was always dragging, so it could be also failing. Worth mentioning that when swapping disks I noticed the ASP had messed up the position of the small screws on the back of the computer. They did not seem to know there are 4 shouldered screws and 3 regular ones.
I put the new or refurb SSD in, clean install and do some testings. First day everything ok. Proceed to install software. Seems ok. After a couple of days the first freeze and reboot appears. After a couple of PRAM and SMC zaps, events seem to be reduced to a minimum. Even though the system is not completely stable, and I am not quite satisfied with the uncertainty of the freezes (in the middle of a presentation is not the best moment to have one), as it's freezing 1-3 times per week I consider it reasonable.
Time goes on, freezes start to appear again. Sometimes while booting, sometimes on login screen, sometimes on heavy usage sometimes on idle. I still follow all threads related to similar issues, in case a fix appears. All sleep / wake / wifi on - off on sleep tests have been performed.
Now the issue seems to be reduced to two kind of events: random freezes and reboots, and errors while booting. None, and I mean zero of the reboots or freezes has ever had a .crash or any system diagnostic reports related to the hour or even date when the freezes took place. EVER.
While booting, it crashes and I have to hard reset 2-3 times. When freezing, 30% of the time it does not reboot, and gets warmer than idle state but cooler than under heavy load.
I usually zap pram and smc and then it boots normally. But I should not have to be doing that every time I turn it on.
I know its a long post, but it's something I have been following for 5 months now. It's not that I am unaware of different options to solve it. Zapping seems to be the way to go, but still the random freezes interrupt workflow and provoke loss of data.
TL;DR: same freeze and reboots as other people. No discrete GPU to relate it to. Default memory installed, SSD model working on 10.8 and 10.9 with zero issues. All software installation combinations tested. ZERO crash reports on console related to the hour or date of the events. Shutdown causes negative codes, ASP cannot find the issue.
Considering bringing it to Genius Bar, but undermines the purpose of a ASP and if they got the same tools they will not find the issue either.
Appelcare expires in June. Any options I am unaware of? I would relate it to the specific model of SSD under Yosemite if I was the only one experiencing freezes and reboots, which I am not.
    Thanks you

Boot into Safe Mode. If the problem ceases then you need to remove Virtual Box and the software that installed com.bluecoat.kext.bckd 4.4.1f20. If this does not fix the problem then make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • WS-C6509-E, SUP2T, Microflow Policing drops not visible

    Hello all,
We had problems with voice quality recently. The issue was with local calls between analog and IP phone or between analog phones (each connected to different voice GW) while crackling was heard only on IP phone. It all pointed to QoS since it occurred only during peak hours but when I was checking "show interface ... " show policy-map FLOW-POLICING " or "show queueing interface ... " there were no drops or errors. This is the configuration we had:
    interface Port-channel31
     switchport
     service-policy input FLOW-POLICING
    interface TenGigabitEthernet2/2/13
     switchport
     platform qos queue-mode mode-dscp

      class VOICE
         police flow mask src-only 200000 8000 conform-action transmit exceed-action drop
    #show class VOICE
Class Map match-all VOICE (id 47)
       Match ip  dscp ef (46)
After we changed exceed-action to "transmit" voice issue disappeared. Later on I realized that all calls coming from analog phones via same voice GW are detected as a single flow since flow mask src-only is used. As I understand this, micro-flow policy was dropping packets after more than 3 calls were coming from a single voice GW (each call takes 64kbps). My question is, why I couldn't see drops under "show interface" or "show queueing interface "? Voice packets are labeled with DSCP 46 and marking was confirmed via packet captures. We blamed voice vendor all the time because I did not see any drops related to voice on interfaces or policy-maps and now I look stupid.
    Thanks for advice.

    Thanks Acampell,
Sorry I was wrong about 64kbps per call and you're right it's something above 80. Codec for internal calls is G711.
I was thinking about changing flow mask to full-flow and thus have each call from voice GW identified as separate flow. It will bit more aggressive on netflow memory but that switch should handle it.
My main point is how to check those drops. We have more boxes and similar setup elsewhere and wonder how are other sites affected. TAC engineer only stated that we can’t see drops under “show policy-map” since we’re not using ACL but class map only. We still wonder why we couldn’t see it under “show interface “. Video traffic is being dropped by the same policy and we can see input drops under interface level for that.

  • Encountered a problem

I'm not getting the "unknown error" specified in the FAQ article. I get a dialogue box with:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Then an option to transmit the issue to Microsoft. I've updated Windows and reinstalled iTunes twice without any success.

    Hi everyone
I have encountered the same error message
"I tunes has encountered a problem and needs to close, we are sorry for the inconvenience"
An option is then given to send the error message to microsoft.
the error message occurs shortly after clicking on the itunes icon and the error signature is
    App name itunes.exe appver 7.0.2.16
    mod name unknown
    modver 0000 offset 001201b8
We have ensured windows XP is updated with service pack 2, and have tried uploading itunes software a number of times, each time deleting the previous version, we have tried using my son's installer disc for his older ipod as well, still we get the same message.
It seems that microsoft and apple do not want to make life easy or cooperate!
My daughter has a nano ipod for Xmas she cannot use.....any help, out there?
I am stuck and as i am not a computer wizard, do not know what to do next...does anyone know when the microsoft version of the ipod comes out!!!

  • Cannot Make Phone Calls

The Droid X can do so many things that making a phone call should be the least of my concerns.  However, since it is a phone, I like to use it that way sometimes.
The problem is that very often when I place a call, it goes through, but there is no sound - at my end or the receiving person's end.  Their phone will ring, but they don't hear me, and I don't hear them.  I don't hear the phone ring at my end, so I have to look at the screen to see what is going on.  I will see, for example:  "Connected"  with the seconds ticking away.
This happens almost every day.  If I shut the phone down and restart - which takes several minutes, I can usually (but not always) get it to work.  In the meantime, the person I am trying to call is wondering what is going on.
Any ideas what is going on here?

Sometimes these issues are not phone related, but are network issues.  Call Verizon and let them know what is happening and they can check the network for connection and transmit/receive issues.  Turning on an off gets you a re-connection to a cell tower and may result in a new port(?) that is not defective(?). I've had these problems before and they have mostly been cell network issues and rarely phone problems.  Be sure and tell Verizon the numbers and location of the other parties too in case its a Verizon to other network provider crossover issue.

  • Mercury transmit issue - 2nd monitor won't play on 2nd monitor (!)

    Hi there
Having an issue with mercury transmit. Am attempting to get playback on my second monitor out of after effects, however all it will do once Transmit is activated is display the feed overlaid on the same screen (i.e. my 'home' screen) rather than on the second monitor.
Have tried every setting I can find, varied preferences, monitor locations, screen sizes etc but nothing seems to work. It works absolutely fine out of Premiere so it is purely an After Effects issue. It is outputting via HDMI to a Panasonic Viera monitor and am working on a new Mac Pro 3Ghz 8-Core Xeon E5 with dual AMD FirePro D700 cards.
    Any suggestions gratefully accepted!

    Thanks for the screenshot, Zen.
Given all the troubleshooting you have done, and the fact that I can not reproduce the problem, I'm at a loss for an explanation. What appears to be happening is that After Effects is using incorrect coordinates for the second monitor. Whether it is receiving incorrect coordinates from Mac OS or it is incorrectly adjusting the coordinates itself, I can't tell.
That's not to say I'm out of ideas yet.
One question is what do you have plugged into the Thunderbolt ports on the Mac Pro? I assume your primary monitor is connect to one, but what else is connected and which ports are they plugged into?
There are 6 Thunderbolt ports on the Mac Pro, but they only serve 3 Thunderbolt busses, and the HDMI shares one of the busses (ports 1 & 3 are bus 1; ports 2 & 4 are bus 2; ports 5, 6, & HDMI are bus 0). It's recommended you do not have more than one display device connected to a single bus.
So, if you have more than one display device connected to a single Thunderbolt bus, or if your primary display is on bus 0, try changing the ports the displays are plugged into.
Here's a number of other ideas and questions off the top of my head:
    - In the Preview panel, is the Full Screen option enabled?
    - In System Preferences > Display, for that monitor, what happens if you set the Resolution to Scaled and set the resolution to 1280x720, or any other value?
    - Try creating a new user account, and test After Effects under that account. Sometimes there are non-obvious preferences or settings, this is the easiest way to isolate to that.
    - Try resetting the SMC and/or NVRAM (PRAM):

  • Issue of Discard/Save Changes popup in MDM WDC application

    Hi All,
I am facing an issue in a WDJ application involving usage of MDM WDC Components. After  editing in item details component,we are setting record id as -1 so as to clear the item details and trigger a bpm process. We are protecting the record after submission. But on submission we are getting a popup window asking for Discard/Save changes .This occurs randomly. What could possibly cause this.Any pointers regarding this will be helpful.

    Hi Apoorva,
Before setting -1 in your item details try to write following line of code.
    wdthis.wdget<Itemdetails>interface.cancelRecord();
    I hope it helps.
    Regards,
    Rohit
